We are pleased to introduce a new Roadster Shop C-10 build coming your way!

We have teamed up with Craftsman Tools to build a '69 Chevy C-10, utilizing our FAST TRACK C-10 chassis (http://roadstershop.com/chassis/1967-72-c-10/), Forgeline wheels and a host of custom touches to make for a pretty badass truck.

The build is being documented, filmed and will be featured on the Craftsman YouTube site, Club Community (https://club.craftsman.com/community/#/homepage), Facebook page etc. The truck will then be auctioned at Barrett Jackson with all proceeds going to Heroes at Home charity.

Check out the preview video!:

With the teardown underway, a vote was held across the Craftsman and our Facebook pages to select the main color for the truck.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7388/9685930561_c30c01559d_b.jpg

After 3470 votes, the charcoal scheme was voted as winner. We then offered two distinct options based on the charcoal scheme:

1.
http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3693/9689175020_f02cdeb853_b.jpg

or 2.
http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3723/9685935857_0d1fd7cfa4_b.jpg

with over 6600 votes, we have a winner, but which one would you go for?

I'm diggin the first one but the red on the wheels isn't working for me. Either way, when I win it I probably won't change a thing!

Ps I'm 6'5" 245lbs, if that helps lay out the interior.

Pss cool to see you're keeping it a long bed

Lol - nice try...
Actually it will be converted to a short bed.

You can have us switch it back to a long bed when you win it. :unibrow:

Keep it swb wheelbase but...... how about increasing the cab dimensions to similar proportions as the 88-98 c/k trucks. Much better leg room in the c/k series vs the 6x-87's (current owner of a 64, 67, & 90swb; previous owner of a 74swb).

Ahhh my dad had a chevy that looked exactly like this. Long bed, faded green with the white cab and a camper. He used it as his work truck from the early 70's til about '07. Drove it out from Illinois when he moved to CA. Truck had rust everywhere (fist sized hole right above the rear passenger wheel wheel). Wish I hadn't pushed him to get rid of it but at the time he had a new work truck and the C10 was just being used to store stuff. Man, the memories I have of that truck are priceless!

Hurry up and strip it so I can shut up about all this hahaha

It's definitely interesting to see what all goes on behind the scenes to make a show and the number of people and equipment involved in setting up just a couple of shots.

Cool. A C10 is on my bucket list.

Yes. You have to buy a car. (2 cars gets you a hoodie)

OR...We have a Facebook store you can order through HERE (https://www.facebook.com/RoadsterShop/app_251458316228) or you can just give give us a call. (we are out of XL's though...should have more soon)

Given that we have somewhat of a reputation for C-10's with tidy handling, this one will be no different... :unibrow:

As mentioned, this will be getting our FAST TRACK C-10 chassis (More info HERE (http://roadstershop.com/chassis/1967-72-c-10/)) with 9" rear and Strange (http://www.strangeengineering.net/) rear axle and gears.

Is NVH a big concern on a vehicle like this ? I'm curious if you have noticed a problem using solid mounted shocks like that vs a rubber/poly bushing. I felt like using monoball mounted shocks made a noticeable difference in my vehicles, although replacing one end with a poly bushing didn't help that much. Just curious if you thought it mattered.

OTOH I told my shock builder what I was doing and he was horrified - I had just negated any subtlety to his valving.I think he was over reacting.

Couldn't agree more...

He gets the Sam Elliot comparison a lot, but in his defense, they are very different. For example, in this picture, Sam Elliot is wearing a cowboy hat and Neal isn't.

Totally different... :_paranoid

Agreed on the demise of actual 'good' fab/car shows.
Sadly, like a car crash, the drama does attract a bigger audience and the technical content becomes only suitable for a niche audience.

The damned TV writers/producers would have the Gerber family yelling and screaming at each other to boost ratings.....I won't wish that on them -- - they seem too nice for that drama!

Just keep on cranking out cool projects!

Don't worry. We cringe at the scripted stuff too. At least if we all sound terrible on camera, the truck will be badass!

Back to the truck...

With chassis assembly coming together, we can begin the process of adressing the bed and cab.

With the assortment of Dynacorn panels and trim parts available, we have a nice, clean starting point to build upon.

The work you guys turn out is incredible! I do have a question on the cover panel. I see you just created a lip to go under the bed floor, is there a reason you left it flat vs. following the natural contours? Was it just because it was easier? Trying to give my brother ideas for his '72.

Evan, yes... is was a decision based on labor time. It would have been a significant amount of work to put all of the ribs into front and back of the raised panel so it matched the original bed floor.

Phil, you guys are always such a truckload of inspiration for those of us in this hobby.

When it comes down to it..........it really doesn't matter how deep your wallet is.

But after looking at any one of your builds, it just pushes a guy that really loves building or tweaking a car (or truck), to dig deep down and make the best use of the skills that you have, and the tools in your garage......to build something super cool.

Sorry, I always get geeked up checking out your builds!! :thankyou:

These are one-off for the truck - the 'C' is actually a Craftsman logo they use and 'By Roadster Shop' gets engraved on the bar below the '10'. So they are kind of specific to this truck. Stay tuned for the final pics of the emblems and we could probably run a set for you if you like them.

I had a few on my phone but deleted them a few weeks ago. There are some good pictures of the truck (as it arrived at the shop right after Columbus) on page 1 of this thread.

Couldn't agree more...

He gets the Sam Elliot comparison a lot, but in his defense, they are very different. For example, in this picture, Sam Elliot is wearing a cowboy hat and Neal isn't.

Totally different... :_paranoid

Thanks Donnie. It was all made in house. I can't give away all of the secrets, but I can tell you that we use special anti-taco spray in cases like this.

I would like some of this spray. I thought about doing this as well. I was gonna have the letters CNCed and the put on the press or just have them laser cut and build a jig for each letter. I keep looking to see trace marks of the bead roller. I cant see any.

To me they took off last year when RS did the orange truck, and no limit and smittys built to run autocross to conquer the truck class. There are a couple more serious trucks being built right now that have a little press on them.

I have been up close to this truck for the entire build. You will be hard pressed to find a more precisely put together 67 -72 c10.
The fit is crazy perfect, lines are lazer straight and the finish is flawless, and thats just the stuff normal people will notice.
This truck is just nuts. The guys at RS are such a talented group of guys. They took everything they learned on the orange truck and ratcheted it up (tool humor).
If you go to SEMA make sure you don't miss the other two chevy trucks they just finished for for the show (one is blue & one is green). The talent inside the walls of The Roadster Shop is mind boggling, I learn something new every time I walk in the door.

First of all you guys really nailed the interior on this thing - its easy for a shop to kind of do the easy route and just slam in some over-leathered smoothed out street rod style interior, but you guys really came down in the perfect place combining the original utilitarian steel panelled stuff with some softer materials and brighter colors.

Question- in the interior episode it was mentioned that you stamped out the CRAFTSMAN logo on the tailgate "in aluminum". The tailgate looks so OEM I can't imagine you built the whole thing out of aluminum. Did the video mis-speak or did you actually integrate an aluminum piece into a restored OEM tailgate ? CAn you elaborate a bit on how that was done ? (not asking the secrets to the perfectly formed logo letters !)

In the video I caught something about laser cutting the letters and using them as a die to stamp the aluminum.

To integrate the aluminum piece with the letters, we used 3M Panel Bond adhesive, a technique used in the collision industry and by automotive manufacturers to bond dissimilar materials.

Well, the truck made it's official debut at the SEMA show last week and was a huge hit. We were also honored to take home a GM design award for the C-10 for best GM G-machine.

Hopefully in the next couple of days, I'll have some good completed pics. In the meantime, here are the next few videos to bring us up to date:

With the truck heading for the Barrett Jackson Palm Beach auction block tomorrow (approx 3:30pm), it seems fitting to do a quick pic update of a few cool shots from the last few weeks.

The truck is being auctioned at the Barrett-Jackson event with proceeds going to 'Rebuilding Together Inc'.
