Alright guys, I need something that will bond two pieces of metal together in a spot that I can not weld. It is for a body mount. I have cut open a channel where GM did not put a nut for my year car. I want to make sure this mount is there and when I take the car back apart for final paint/powder, I need that nut captured in that spot. I have already made the captures, I just cant get any welder gun or torch in the area.

Of course, JB Weld has come to mind, but I am just wondering is there something better?

Thanks,
HEEP

what ratman said or 3M makes some ridiculously strong bonding agents. They might be cost prohibitive though for just a few capture nuts.

3M panel bond may work? Part number is 8115, but you need the 3M gun to use it so that does add to the cost. If you know someone at a body shop they should have a gun you could use?

The 3M panel bond would probably break loose after the initial tightening.
It is not made to withstand torque/twisting.

Maybe I'm not picturing this correctly but couldn't you weld a piece of flat stock to the nut so it couldn't rotate and it could just float around in there until you tightened it?

Or, if you have a housing for a captured nut mark it's perimeter on the underside of the frame and drill a few holes that you can fill with spot welds from underneath.

if he cant remove it , he might hear that thing rattling around for ever

I think I would need a picture to better visualize what's going on.

Guys, thanks for the replies. I've been working on the honey doo list and only getting time in the garage while it rains. Here is what I made and where is goes. I finally got the mig in far enough to get some sort of weld on it. It is holding. I've got to do the other side tomorrow.

It's going in here. This is the channel under the body where the crossmember for the upper control arms mount.

Couldn't you drill a hole in the bottom of the rocker and do a rosette weld to hold the cage nut in?
