Is it just me or is there nothing out there for muscle cars when it comes to rearview mirrors?

I had a customer bring in some 2nd gen Bullet mirrors for his project. Well apparently they all come with the remote cable control for the driver side and a non remote for the passenger. So I tried to set up the driver side to be a non remote like the passenger. Well that is not going to happen unless I plastic injection mold my own parts. Heck Classic Industries sells some carbon shells for Anvil that they want you to buy a whole other set of mirror to remove the mechanicals from to some how reassemble in the empty shells. I swear those cables remotes are not able to be taken apart. Why do you need remote on the side most of us can actually reach to adjust. And who wants that ugly adjuster deal on their door panel?

So I start looking for another set of mirrors and there really is not any good rearview mirrors for muscle cars that don't attach to the car where the vent window would be.

Do you guys feel the same? Have you found some other mirrors that actually work well and don't look like they came from Pep Boys?

I agree, doesn't seem like there's any good options out there.

I would think something with the mechanical simplicity of a sportbike motorcyle mirror would be a good way to go. It would just need to have a little more esthetic refinement and proportion for use on a car.

We've had success installing late model electric remote guts into 2nd gen housings. It takes a little time, but they work out well.

I struggled with the same thing on my build, and finally ran across this option, and they have several other versions also. Sorry about the pictures, but I wanted to give you the full perspective on these mirrors.. They are sold by Vision Hot Rod Concepts www.visionhotrod.com , and they are true fit mirror.. You literally cut and sand the base of the mirror to your preference, and then drill the mount holes you want, and then add the supplied threaded inserts.. I took quite a bit off of the base, because they leave them extra long for you to work with, so more could come off for a tighter fit if you wanted.. These mirrors were about 250 dollars for the set, and that is with the LED Turn Signal option, so I thought they were a bargain.

On my 67 I hate how my mirrors never stay in the spot i put them in. I adjust them and after 5 minutes of driving they are all misaligned again. Not to mention they touch the cars paint when they move. We've all seen people add the modern car ones but what about if the paint and body are already done? Some modern styles the use the same mounting base? That would be cool. That should be easy for the guy that can make entire dashes from solid aluminium. :D

That's one reason I'm asking. I'm friends with the guy who works for Dallara Indy car factory. I'm looking at using the adjusters they use on the Indy cars to hold the internals for the mirrors. Like you said I'm tired of saggy mirror.

Where did you get these cool headlights.

I had them custom made, because I wanted to remove the bulky marker/turn assemblies on the front of the fenders, and I wanted modern HID Projector with the Halo park lamps.. Set me back about a grand for them, but that is with all the ballast and wiring.

We're about to do this process again on some Chevelle mirrors soon, so we'll post some pics then.

I was at the Roadster Shop a couple weeks ago and they were machining up some prototype Mirrors on there new CNC Machine. They should have them available this summer.

The good news is they are for 1st and 2nd Gen Camaro's.

ps - Sorry I don't have any pictures but I may be going there this weekend and I will try to get a few.

Are we talking about rearview mirrors or sideview mirrors? Posts keep saying "rearview", but pics keep showing sideview. Rearview is what goes inside on the front windshield am I correct?. Let me know if I'm wrong.

I use a couple of pieces of velcro to keep it close, but I still have to adjust it about every 15 minutes. Drives me crazy! Funny, I don't remember this being a problem back in the day.

Hey Ty

You must be talking about the Anvil Carbon Fiber Mirrors

Yes, but Mark had to make them work:

He used 2nd Gen internals and modified the Anvil CF mirrors as he also doesn't like the cable operated drivers side mirror... so he made his own mount using a stud ball from McMaster Carr and made a few small parts to make it work:

http://i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq118/Stielow65/Camaro%20XV/DSC_4574_zps8a39fc81.jpg

http://i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq118/Stielow65/Camaro%20XV/DSC_4570_zps60694645.jpg

http://i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq118/Stielow65/Camaro%20XV/DSC_4575_zps9a8edec0.jpg

I wish he'd market these pieces along with the bases he made to mount the mirrors to the doors! Not all of us have the tools, TALENT or time to do what he makes look easy...

http://i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq118/Stielow65/Camaro%20XV/DSC_4545_zps9041351f.jpg

http://i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq118/Stielow65/Camaro%20XV/DSC_4551_zps827569fc.jpg

IF he or Anvil would market these I would get a set for my car!
