Wet skid pad is in the books... 2nd in class and just 0.003 seconds ahead of Carl Casanova (https://www.facebook.com/carl.casanova.9?group_id=0)and the Honor Flight Camaro! First 100 miles is behind us and we're at Grissom AFB for an autocross before a long drive to Talladega...

Just heading south of of Louisville now. OLC is kicking butt in Vintage American with a second in wet skidpad and first in autocross. Jon and I finished third and second, putting us 2nd overall in class.

So far no problems except Jon got us lost for about 15 minutes. The three of us, Jimi in AMXess too, are moving along to Talladega for an exciting stay at the Super8. 80% chance of rain tomorrow (BOOOOOOO!!!) We've been on the road for 3-1/2 hours already with another seven to go before bedtime, and it raining pretty hard already.

Andy Holis in his '89 CRX took the overall win in autocross this afternoon. It's a super car and very well driven.

Update from Jimi Day:

https://fbcdn-profile-a.akamaihd.net/hprofile-ak-snc6/195404_100000731312427_1470731270_q.jpg (https://www.facebook.com/fm3marketing)Jimi Day (https://www.facebook.com/fm3marketing?hc_location=stream)

We now have the first 2 events and more than 500 miles behind us in the 2013 One Lap of America. The CenterForce AMXess is performing admirably, her driver still needs to perform to the cars potential. It's a long week and our goal is to finish, so we're ok being in 45th place overall and 4th on the Vintage Class.

I managed to make it out to the OLOA event for the second session at Talladega GPR. I had the pleasure of meeting James, Mary, Carl and Jimi and got to see their cars along with the rest of the field. It was cool to walk around at the paddock and see some of these cars before they hit the track.
Some observations:
-The AMXess car is a really cool piece of machinery and it looks great.
-The HFC looked great with the new hood and front valence.
-The OLC update is awesome and it looks great at speed. The wing really looks cool.
-The DSE car actually does sound as good as everybody had said
-GTR's are blazing fast
-The Mercedes SLS sounds like a jet fighter at speed.

Detoit speed seems to be finding their rhythm with their new car, up to 8th in this run....that's LEGIT fast.

The 2nd Session for the White Monster at NOLA is in the books. Kyle and Ryan are now headed to Daytona Speedway. They are gaining ground in their class, SSGT2 Big Bore, with 2nd in class. In the afternoon session they finished 1st in class and 11th overall. Keep up the good work Kyle, Ryan, and the White Monster. If you see them along the highway, give them a salute. They may even get some good food tomorrow with Stacy’s parents living just 20 minutes from the track and being the official DSE cheering section! Hoping for good weather.

Wait, are you saying team OLA ran a 32 second lap? that doesn't seem possible.. and I don't see the spread between 1st and 2nd being THAT great.

Maybe it was supposed to be 3:02.390 .. which would make WAY more sense...

For those that are wondering what my driving experience was at Daytona's high banks and infield road course ... I saw God. We had quite the discussion about a lotta things car and He agreed to let me live to drive and race another day. This, by far, is the most exhilarating and scariest thing I've ever done with a car, any automobile.

We found out that one good shock and one broken shock doesn't last long for extended highway travel. Luckily our teammates had some spares that almost fit and we got down the road to Camden and will be competing at CMP tomorrow.

We're done at CMP and on our way to BMW test center for a quick one lap around their test track. Onward after that to Viginia International Raceway. The afternoon session felt good, the lap times were slower, but I felt better in the car after the repairs. WE WILL ADAPT!

Round One at Carolina Motorsports is in the books - Mary 1, Carl 2, Jimi 3. Two seconds separated 1 and 2 and another 2 separated 2 and 3. We're sitting first in class and 22nd overall... Round 2 coming up shortly followed by at "short" 150 mile transit to BMW and on to Virginia.

I am so proud of our One Lap team and especially so of our Camaro. Took a peek at the Carolina Motorsports Park afternoon track results and we finished 16th overall. The Camaro was nothing less than perfect! Thanks so much to all the people that have helped us along the journey and throughout the build and upgrades. We could not have done this without you ... The afternoon session saw clear skies again with more heat building in the track. This time it was Kyle’s turn in the driver’s seat. He finished 4th overall and 1st in class still without 4th gear. They managed to shift around 4th gear all day. Next it is on to the BMW Performance Center for the autocross.

Two of three in the books this morning - one more this afternoon. Carl took First in this mornings first run with the OLC a completely messed up 4th. We managed first in the second session with Carl nipping at our heals. We're First in Class and 21st overall. One more event today, two tomorrow, and one on Saturday...

In the wet at PIR and Jon finished first in class for Vintage American! We are now five points behind Jimi in the AMXess. Each finishing position has a five point difference, so it is game on in Vintage. Great job by all the cars as nobody went off and the track is in good shape, for now, as more rain and cold is predicted.

I like PA way better than VA! AMXess was flying this afternoon, only .3 separated us from Fast Mary Pozzi!
A solid third and second in class finish helped us to pad our second place lead over the Honor Flight Camaro
and pick up one overall position to 28th. Congrats to James James Shipka (https://www.facebook.com/james.shipka?directed_target_id=0) and Mary Pozzi (https://www.facebook.com/mary.pozzi.9?directed_target_id=0) for their 2013 One Lap

We did it!!! The OneLapCamaro is the 2013 Tire Rack One Lap of America Vintage American Class Champions! Congratulations to Jimi and Saroja on their second place finish and to Carl and Jon on their third place finish. The Vintage American Class was incredibly tough this year and it was an honor to spend a week with everyone!

Jody - thanks for keeping this up! I have to apologize for not jumping in sooner but it was a long week and despite the marvels of technology there is only so much time in the day.

This was a great week for all three (six) of us. The Vintage American class was really tough this year - six cars started, five cars finished, and four cars made it to all of the events. Jimi and Saroja did a great job wheeling the Centerforce AMX despite dealing with a variety of issues over the week. Carl and Jon in the Honor Flight Camaro likewise rocked the event and ran a great race. I think that it says tons that Jimi and Carl were actually TIED for second in points with their final placement being determined by overall cumulative times.

I think that it also says a lot that between the three Pro-Touring cars (and actually all five competition drivers) we each had at least one personal first place finish during the week. It was great to be able to caravan during the transit stages and the One Lap organizers actually went out of their way to create a Muscle Car run group that included ourselves, the rest of the VA cars and a factory 5 Daytona coupe. I think everybody got a kick out of seeing the "old cars" holding their own with some incredible supercars.

For Mary and I this was a great event. We had no major mechanical issues (that kept us from competing) although the OLC will be down for the foreseeable future with a hurt engine and tired transmission. Going in to this year I was concerned about the mill and Daytona took its toll on us and the LS7 is done. We finished 21st overall - bracketed by a prepped Z06, a Panamera, a gutted 5th gen and an ACR Viper. This was our best finish ever and I'm really proud of Mary and the David's prep work on the old girl.

I was also really touched by the support thoughout the event. We had people come out to every event - often wearing our 2013 t-shirts - to show their support. On two occasions forum members chased us down at gas stops to talk and encourage us on. I never would have imagined such support and can't thank everybody enough.

I would be remiss, also, not to thank our sponsors - RideTech, HRE, Baer Brakes, Centerforce Clutches and of course Pro-Touring.com! I'm also thrilled that last time I had looked we had raised almost $16,000 for our charity - the EvenStart Foundation for Children. I'm glad that our love of Motorsports and competition can benefit such a worthy cause.

That said - thank you all and good night. We'll work on getting some pictures up later in the week once we've all made it home and gotten some much needed sleep.

Cheers

James
