Hi, I'm tired of my curved AAR hood. I've been in contact with Matt over at http://www.anvilauto.com/ about making an Carbon fiber AAR hood. He was very excited and told me this is a hood he wants to make. However he is very busy and have several new products in que to go into production, so unless I could find 8 people who are willing to put down a payment, it would have to wait. But he does not know how many hoods he could sell. So i'm gonna post this on a couple of forums. It will be a direct replacement, bolt on hood.

The price would be:
* $875 for carbon/fiberglass.
* $1650 for 100% carbon.
* $3000 for dry carbon.

For those who wonder (like me), Dry carbon is the method of producing parts in an autoclave using high pressure and heat to catalyze the resin which is also called pre-preg, whereby the carbon cloth has the resin impregnated into it and layers are put together in a mold and the heat sets the resin up. In wet layup processes, the resin is a liquid that is catalyzed using a chemical that sets off a chemical reaction (like mixing two parts of epoxy glue together). Dry carbon, also known as pre-preg, is how aerospace and race car parts are made. It is the ultimate process for light weight and strength.

I don't know the answer to this. I've just mailed back and fourth a few times with Matt. I'm just checking if there is anyone who will bite on this, and see where it goes from there..

But, that beeing said, Anvil is a well known company with good reputation and they have a quality product! :thumbsup:

You should contact http://www.musclecarrestorations.com/ since they already make one.

Here a link to the build process.

how many of those cars exist? there are hundreds of thousands of first gen camaros.... i wonder what it costs to tool up to make just a few copies of something like that?

Wow, it isn't always about 1st gen Camaros. Some of us do like other things.

FWIW, more Camaros were made in 1967 than all 5 years of Mopar E body production of Plymouth and Dodge combined. So yes, there are not a lot of them out there and there are even fewer willing to modify them, and of those, there are even less willing to put handling mods under them. So yes, it is a very narrow market, which is why it costs $3000 a unit instead of the $1000 it costs to get a F body carbon fiber hood.

AFAIK the MCR hood was a one of, and is not a hood they sell. Also it has a higher scoop than the originals. But I did mention it to Matt as they might have the molds still..

Bear in mind that the Cuda hood is shorter than the Challenger hood.

The Mopar market is tiny compared to Chevy and ford..... And the cars out there tend to more of the "restoration crowd" rather than the "modified crowd".....That's why companies like DSE, Ring Bros, Anvil are not that interested

Can't blame them.... From a business standpoint there just isn't a big enough market to justify the engineering and tooling cost etc

That is right, but this hood can satisfy the resto crowd also, Paint it, slapp it on your AAR, nobody will know it's CF, and it'll stay straight.:relax:
