You won't get much info from following me on there. I'm more a follower than a followee(?). I don't know how to do much on there and I really just don't want to spend my energy trying to learn "social media". It's about all I can do here to do multi quotes.
That -- and I like the ability to interact in a conversation rather than just put out a statement if you know what I mean. My little finnies are used to a keyboard for the last half gazillion years -- I type really fast…. but the thumbs? Not so much. I swear my kids can type faster with their thumbs than I can two handed.

Oh -- and if you need to know what or how to do something on there - just do like I do and call Rodger night or day. He's up all night with Georgia Anne anyway.

Man, this build has really picked up steam of late. It's looking amazing. Paint looks like glass already.
Actually -- getting a hot rod built by Brizio Streetrods is a very fast and timely process. HE just doesn't post or even share much info with the owner. His customers are very hot rod savvy and don't really need a lot of hand holding and updates. There is a TRUST there that they are getting EXACTLY the hot rod they spec'd out from the get go.
His customers are also extremely capable of funding the builds. That's a major difference, I think, of his customer base versus a more "normal" customer base where there are stumbles - stops and starts. He knows he can just work the process from start to finish and there's no question about being paid. If he thought a customer wasn't capable and willing - then he just wouldn't take you as a customer. He has a waiting list - you get in line to get a car built. :>)
His business is based around a work flow. The project doesn't even start until it's ready to go - and then once that process starts - it just moves thru the system. Remember too -- that most of these cars are pretty simple. So other than some minor body mods - or a chopped top - or louvers etc - these are more a fit and finish - or patch panels - floors etc.
Now - that's not saying that every car is the same or that they all flow perfectly because there are many very custom builds that are complicated -- but many are not - and they just "get done". Mine being one of those.

Darryl and Roy both take pics about as well as Rob does…. you just grab a phone and snap the pic without any consideration for the result. HAHAHAHAHAHA
The colors in these pics is HORRIBLE…. because they don't represent the color --- but when I tried to take pics of the sample panel -- I really struggled capturing the color. I'd far prefer to have Darryl laying down mils of paint than I would having him trying to take adequate pics. Ditto with Roy.
Having said that --- I'd love nothing better than to see the actual color… so a drop by after SEMA is a "must". Driving "the rig" thru San Francisco is worth the effort.

I have to add to my --- why this is moving fast post….
There have been ZERO changes to the build from start to finish. I've done other builds where it's a moving target… my buddies say "hey! you know what would be kool!"…. and off you go… or you make a motor change…. or the wheels you want aren't available… There's just so many obstacles to doing these builds.
This project was plotted out to be a very simple little hot rod driver from the get go. A purchased body that needs no "repairs" - the only change was the frenched taillights and license plate (okay that's not even half a days work)… and the pinching of the nose -- which this shop has done 10,000 times. So it's really nothing more than a body drop. Motor install (nothing special being done there either)… get it painted - wire it - and zoom off into the sunset. The motor is bone stock as is the trans -- so no dyno wait -- no waiting for custom motor etc. It's just a crate motor. A crate body. Off the shelf suspension… and the custom one off wheels are the second pair so even those are been there done that.
I've made three payments. A deposit to get started -- which bought the body - the motor/trans - and chassis side rails and rear end. When all that stuff got there and the frame rails were in the jig…. I gave them almost half of what the "quote/guesstimate" was…. and when it went to paint - I was finally out of money (credit balance) and gave them another big chunk. I'm now at the low end of said guesstimate… and I'm 100% positive I'll have to write another check. That will put me at the high end of the guesstimate/range and should finish it up.
So what I'm saying is -- you know what you're going to spend going in -- it's not been double or triple what we started out with… it's just an upfront knowledge and it's been right on course. That's because the variables haven't changed. The labor is simple and straight forward. The parts and pieces were all known up front.
Having said that -- there is no 'cheap/beginner/affordable' Brizio built car. So simple doesn't really equate to "affordable". If you're looking for affordable you're not going to end up at this shop. LOL. I should certainly be able to sell the car for at least $35K if I needed to.

People always try to BS themselves with what they think they're car is worth. I'm not in that camp. I go the other way… I figure they're not worth diddly - 'cause that's more accurate when you actually go to sell them - so why kid yourself.

You're spot on Mike.
I'm the first one to understand that a perfect world it isn't -- and that there aren't that many people walking around that do things "the easy way". While we all wish everyone could - it doesn't work that way and I get it.
I was just trying to say why this build seemed to go so quickly. It's not the only reason - but it certainly helps that the builder can just put their head down and push on full tilt boogie.
Back in the day -- I used to hunt around for bargains on this part or that - and I've done the whole custom built motor thing more times than I care to count. And I've caused more than my fair share of delays and hiccups building my own cars. I get it.
Frankly - I'm one of those guys that likes the process as much as the end result… and delays and hiccups don't bother me one iota. It's just part of the process.
Having said all of it twenty times -- this build actually started on June 15th 2012… and should be ready for debut at the Grand National Roadster Show January 2014… so while it seems fast - it really isn't all that fast. I can certainly understand how these totally custom one off everything builds run 2 and 3 and 4 years!

I don't know if this is the way every car should be built. But there is no denying that Brizio is a finely run machine of a shop.
Sometime you want to decide everything, or close to it.
What you say above, that is part of it right there isn't it. This car isn't supposed to be one where you touched every piece and made every little decision. That because you've been there done that.
This is your x0? build? Now if it was your first rodeo, or even first at this level, then you probably would still be the guy causing the delays. But this time around that isn't your goal.
I'd say this car is more analogous to special ordering a Lambo or Ferrari or some other high end factory built car. The builder already has the formula you are just asking for a couple custom touches on your high end driver.
Anyway I can't wait to see the final product in Pomona. :D

Siegymondo…..
I just thought of the perfect analogy!
There's 1911 Kimbers -- and then there's 1911 Wilson's… both similar but not in the same league. Nobody can quite put their finger on "why"… but they're vastly different while being the same.
There's '32 Fords... and then there's Brizio's…
Biggest mistake in my whole life (other than taking LSD at the Three Dog Night concert - got stoned and "missed" the whole thing)? Not having the '32 built at Brizio's like I had planned to. And when the '33 is done… it just may go the way of the Nomad and I'll start a Dearborn Deuce.. but then there's this little sawed off '40 Ford p/u kinda rat rodded running around SV… and Stella would love one of those.
GregWeld
10-30-2013, 01:53 PM
I agree with everything you said.
I knew exactly what I wanted. He and Dave knew exactly what I explained to them… and it's NOTHING they haven't built a gazillion times.
When he said he'd send me a paint panel for my approval - I said - don't bother… if it's good enough for you then it's good enough for me.
All that is saying is that -- you're right -- I'm not having my first kid. Close enough is fine. I'm not laying awake at night stewing over the car of my dreams and whether or not it will turn out EXACTLY the way I dreamt it would/could.
Oh hell yeah - I'm excited about it… We all love our cars! But I'm a bit more "MEH" about - as you rightly point out - the gazillionth version. I'm actually more excited about starting to think about the next one…
I need a project for the new shed in SV… and that's where the rat rodded (kinda sorta rat rodded) '40 might just come in. Or maybe a Radical… or maybe build from scratch a track car… So much time and so little to do.
YEEEEEEEHHHHHHHAAAAAAAA

Man I'm posting a lot today! Had to sit and wait for the furnace repairman… he finally came and fixed the POS - I was freezing…
I've always thought how much fun it would be to find some old car in a field and drag the thing home and make a project out of it… EYE DEE HO might just be the perfect place to find such a thing! But first I have a fairly large amount of time I'm going to have to devote to building a house project… then moving - then getting the new shed all squared away -- and I seem to have picked up another track car that needs some seat time as well as getting the Mustang back to a reliable state…. But a rat rod would be the perfect first project once things settle down a bit.

Both of those make me puke….
I'll get a shot of the '40 I'm thinking of next time I see it.
I'd probably rather actually do a '37 -- but after seeing the way this guy did the '40 -- it's pretty right on. Ordinarily I wouldn't look twice at a '40 Ford - but there's something about the way this pick up looks that's just Sun Valley perfect.
It's not rat rodded as much as it is -- "worn" like a good old pair of jeans… so it looks solid and the body is perfect - but he did the patina paint - and the faded door advertising.. and it sits low with poverty caps but then you look and it has some tire under it.
BTW -- Some nasty ass gold colored hot rods might be coming to market from the rumors I'm hearing. Will be interesting to see what they'd bring - and my guess is - not much. But what do I know.

We're gonna have to share Three Dog Night concert stories one day, I've got one that was a doozy!
Here's what I'd like to build someday just for ****zzz, giggles and grins!

Thanks buddy. The VIBE as you put it -- is just a nice simple traditional looking hot rod -- but one that exudes "Quality" from a distance and up close… and there won't be any "oh wow's" as far as details go. It's simple and sweet and will get LOTS and LOTS of miles put on it.
Nice car! was just wondering, how many guys did they have working on your car on average? Shawn
Per month there's usually 4 or 5 names listed as billable hours… whether they're working on it at the same time or separately -- sorry -- I just have no idea. I doubt very much that there's many people working all at the same time on it. It's not a rush project like my last one was -- and the deadline set is easily doable.
The AVERAGE hot rod produced at this shop is about 1500 billable hours is what I think I was told one time. Made sense to me -- but of course that's nothing but an "average". I think mine will be close to that average.

Yes I have picked the exact color…. and the actual leather. But I don't have any photos of it or samples either. So here's a "kinda sorta like this pic"

It's a Trek -- I wanted the Fuel EX8 29 but I didn't like the 29's -- so went with a 26 but I'll be danged if I can remember the exact model. It's "high end" - but not crazy high end. Lucky for me SV is a HUGE bike town - but at the end of the season they blow stuff out and change over to ski stuff. It's got 3 big gears up front and 9 in back I think - and has hydraulic brakes - and the adjustable suspension for soft - medium and locked up… The rear suspension is cantilevered rocker set up.
I LOVE IT… But I just ride it around -- I'm not jumping logs or planning any canyon jumping on it. I do CHOOSE to go down stairs though rather than avoid them!! LOL

I haven't had a bike for years… Gwen rides her road bike (a Trek Madone 5.9) 50 miles per ride and she'd ride 6 days a week if the weather would cooperate… She's actually has TWO of them - identical - one here in Bellevue and one in Sun Valley… and then when I got my mountain bike - she bought one too - so we've been doing rides together - road and trails. We use our bikes way more than our cars when we're over in SV.

Greg, How long have you had a place in Sun Valley?
Since last September. We bought a condo by accident… went over there in January and stayed until the end of March - by that time we'd bought a lot and are building a house and moving there as our primary residence.
I've skied over there for 25+ years - and always loved it - but those were always just "winter" ski trips… then we went over a couple times the last couple of summers and loved the summer just as much as the winters.

Just curious. About 12 years ago, I worked personal security for some mega rich computer guy named David Hayden. He was the founder of a company called Critical Path. About that same time, he and his then wife were building some maga mansion in Sun Valley called "The Arc". About half way through the project his company had some major problems and the project was abandoned when it was about half way finished. It was being built into the mountain side and some type of insane curved roof. I always wondered what happened to that place.
It's a town of "insane" money. There's one Alaska Air flight per day from Seattle -- but the airport is just a parking lot full of private jets. Some of the houses there are OMG amazing… You'd mistake them as ski lodges or hotels… hahahaha
I'll ask someone that will know.
You know they have the big Allen & Company tech conference over there every year… and the whole town is crawling with private security for all the who's who in tech that come over.

I'm sure some of the long time residents would probably know. If I am not mistaken, at the time it was being built, it was supposed to be one of the biggest private homes in Sun Valley.
As it turns out - the arc - is off Fairway road which I walk three or four times a week since it starts (it's a short road) at our driveway. Fairway was the gold coast for awhile… and there are some real beauties there. My source (real estate agent/friend - whose husband is our architect - who's BFF's with our builder….) says she hasn't been in it.
It's a VERY SMALL town… some 3,000 permanent inhabitants… all of whom are either related - or friends of someone. It's amazing that way (to us coming from a big town).

Do a Google Map -- just put in FAIRWAY ROAD - Sun Valley, Idaho
You'll see why it's called Fairway Rd - DOH! The homes there are - for the most part - beautiful and large by huge. Walking on the road - they're mostly empty as they are 2nd or 3rd or 4th homes for the owners.
If you look on the google map (do the earth shot version) just to the WEST - is DIAMOND BACK RD… We'll be the second house built up there and we own the lot at the end of the cul d sac on Diamond Back. Our view will be of the Trail Creek golf course and Fairway Rd… HAHAHAHAHAHAH
Elk Trail has to be moved OFF our property as it cuts across the corner. But the point is -- I can get on my bike and ride those trails without lifting so much as a finger to get there. Marty and Rob would think they died and went to mountain bike heaven.

Greg --
I googled "The Ark - Sun Valley, ID" and found pics of the house - yes I do know it. Not my taste but it has some really kool industrial metal stuff going on.
There are two "metal" houses on Fairway -- one is like two square boxes connected by an enclosed bridge… all done with rivets and corten steel… And then there's "The Ark"… which is nowhere near the largest house on Fairway. There's a stone (think stone like in a castle) house that stretches about three lot widths… even driving a car - you think "does this house ever end?"

No Chris! I turned southeast and went to Scottsdale GG show. Now sitting in a parking lot in chandler, az next to freightliner of Arizona. Going to try and uprate the 450hp to 500+ tomorrow if possible. Then head to Lillards to dump off Mayhem. Then back down south to Sonoma raceway to get my Mustang. Then to Brizio's to see the '33...... And should be home Friday maybe.

It's at McGee Motorsports. Had to pull the motor again when it broke a Jessel shaft rocker arm. it ate a valve in the process.

So this week I stopped by Brizio's on my way back from my SEMA - OUSCI - Front Sight - Scottsdale GoodGuys show "trip"…
I got a surprise phone call from Roy while at SEMA -- as they decided the motor and trans should be painted -- and, of course, they're asking me what color I think it should be. Finally I said --- "the color of the wheel centers". I'm trying to keep this build super simple - not too many things going on color wise etc…
So here it is:

The body is back on the chassis and is now in the assembly room… and they're wiring and bolting all the stuff back on that was sent to Sherms

The intake will be painted body color -- as it sits between the billet specialties valve covers… and we're changing out the factory fuel rails with some from Aeromotive…. so just a touch of "clean up" for the top of the motor.
So the whole car is Dark Blue -- Chrome or Billet - Black top - Red interior.
FWIW - Tucker is dying to go for a ride!

Here's a pic with a REAL camera…. that really shows the "red" leather - which isn't really RED like lipstick red - - it's more a subdued "off red"…. as you compare it to the red tool box or jackstands.

It's actually called BERKSHIRE -- but I'm sure that's just the name the particular supplier gives it. It might be called Salsa in Bakersfield…
It's not nearly as RED as the photo makes it out to be - it's more "old fashioned" reddish… more subdued than it looks. I took 50 photos trying to capture the color and for the most part I was a complete failure.

Thanks Rick. I'm just trying to correct all the deficiencies of the '32…. which has no top and no windows… no heat and no A/C… which is "fun" for a little while. A very little while.
This car should run flawlessly with the simple factory LS motor and trans combo -- and having a top and windows with some heat or A/C will be a major plus on an actual trip - of which this car will make many!

Even the big camera didn't get the color right - I'd take a pic - look at the pic and take another one… I finally just gave up. None of them (took 20 maybe!) looked like the color as seen with the eyes. But you get the combo. It's a been there done that combination that is timeless and works.

Let's see -- talk to Chris -- or talk to The Briz and Mumford… Hmmmmmmmm
Oh yeah - and he's building a car for me… Well that settles it then - Guess I'm a Briz groupie.

Ok.. so I have to tell this SEMA story..
Standing @ the Ridetech booth with Greg & Sieg discussing shocks.. Greg is pulling the lever on the shock display educating Sieg on shocks.. I walk in & jump in the conversation.. About 10 minutes into the conversation.. Greg spots Roy Brizio out of the corner of his eye & leaves me & Sieg standing thier in the middle of his educated shock class running after Roy like a school girl chasing after him.. I have never seen Greg chase after somebody but thought it was funnier than hell.. Gets back & I start teasing him about it.. Tells me.. You don't understand.. I will probably not be able to see him again to talk here @ SEMA.. & he is painting my car next week.. thought it but did not tell him.. "ROY BRIZIO" groupie!! :D
Sorry buddy! but had to tease you about that one again.. I probably exaggerated the story some.. :underchair:
Car is looking great!!
LOL, too good to be true

I love the color you went with Greg, this thing is truly cool. A little bit of Silver and Lime Green pinstriping on there and you've got Seattle Seahawk colors. Awesome.

Hey Casey ---- I WAS a Vikings fan until the shizzle hit the fan with a certain player and my daughter Monday…. I'm sure you've seen it on the news. Nuff said.
Dave (at Brizio's) asked me about pin stripping it -- and I don't think I want any on it… YET -- I'll leave it at YET -- because I want to live with it for awhile. I'm really not a huge fan of pin stripping… but have always liked the accent on the louvers if done correctly -- but on the other hand -- it adds a certain "flavor" that is something I'm not sure I want going on with this build.

Oh and the guy on the left is worth more then everyone on Lat-g,.... combined.
I've had this picture blown up to a 24" X 36" (paper targets) and we're going to use them at SEMA next year at Range 702… There's a certain automatic that I'd like to pull the trigger on again a few times (80 bucks - 80 bucks - 80 bucks….) because that's the worst picture that SIEG has ever taken - let alone had the blu balz to post.
Oh yeah --- and my guess is -- the guy on the left is worth more --- by 4 or 5 times! Maybe even way more! But nobody cares (least of all HIM) -- he's just a good guy and a real hot rodder!!

Greg, isn't it nice when you go see a project and when you get there its just "right" the way you picture'd it in your mind. Congrats, thats no small feat.'
Is the unvieling open to the public? at the Grand National roadster show in LA?
anyways, looking fanfriggentastic!!!

Yeah Mike --- It's just going to be in the Brizio booth -- I think he's taking 9 cars down for the show.
I have to go down after I get home from Carmel (where I'm at now) because the car is going to Sid Chavers for upholstery on Dec 9th --- so it should be even more complete then -- and that's when I'll work with Sid on what the interior should be --- that way I have a real good chance to screw up a perfectly nice little car.
GNRS is January -- so when you toss Xmas and New Years in there - there's not much time left!!

The difference between the two shops might as well be the difference between two oceans. Well… let me put it a different way. One shop was like a toilet bowl in a run down gas station on the edge of town… the other is like
a Presidential Suite.

The thing about Brizio's is the customers usually have so much fun having a car built there that after it is finished they want to get in line and do it again. We can guide Greg thru his next choice....:headspin:

Greg,Your 33 is turning out perfect. The color is spot on for that type of car, Very Classic. So many go over board with crazy color's and wild interior's.I like it.Couldn't fit in it,but I like it.May be when it's a little older, Rodger and I could try and fit in it at the same time.???:badidea:

I started out with the "hope" to build a traditional hot rod but, sometimes, to me, "traditional" looks wimpy and fragile… I wanted a timeless traditional that looked like it has a little attitude… and that looked like it SHOULD BE on the road going somewhere.

My next project will be built by me… which is my normal mode… I just can't build a car and a house and do all of that at the same time while traveling all over the dang place. Hopefully once we get the house done -- I can auger in and have a project in the shed to bang on.

Car looks bitchin Greg. I like the finish on the wheels versus the polished hoops. Nice contrast. A question though- what finish is on the firewall and floors? Looks like some type of heat/sound barrier, but with a much finer texture.

It's just a flat black like DP90 or something similar. So in other words - it's just painted.
The inside of the firewall has Dynamat (their new black version) the toe boards are just painted.

Roy just called --- they're going to fire it off on Friday… wiring is all complete -- all the wheels are there now -- they're putting the doors on today… and the intake is painted and they're just waiting to get it back and install it. The grill is still at the chrome shop so it's MIA for the upholstery shop but it's not required so who cares.. HA.
All in all ---- "it's coming along nicely" (quoting Roy).
What a pleasure to do business with! OMG…
