I should have just used a set of Blairs pro port Edelbrocks. :headscratch:

http://fepower.net/simplemachinesforum/index.php?action=post;quote=9235;topic=1074.0;last _msg=9237

Information is a little sketchy on this one at the moment; Blair has promised to come on in a few days and provide some more details. But these dyno numbers are unreal for what this engine is:

http://fepower.net/Photos/Posts/BP506.jpg

Photo quality of the dyno sheet is poor because it was taken with Blair's cell phone camera. I have never seen an 800 lb-ft FE except for my big SOHC, and that engine was 585 cubic inches. This engine is only 506 cubic inches. That is a very, very impressive torque number. And the horsepower peak of 911 HP from 6400 to 6600 RPM is also really impressive.

I spoke with Blair on the phone tonight for a while about this engine. Apparently it is basically one of his Super Stock FEs, but with more cubic inches, less compression, and a smaller cam. His normal 427-based super stock engines turn to 9000 RPM to make this kind of horsepower. Compression ratio on this engine is 13:1, and the cam is a 270@ .050" duration cam with about .700" lift. The idea behind the engine is that the reciprocating assembly and cam can be changed and the engine will turn into a legal super stocker. The heads are Blair's pro-port Edelbrock heads, and the intake is a tunnel ram style intake with two 715cfm Holleys. Blair pointed out that the heads and intake were ported and tuned together on his flow bench, to really optimize the combination.

That's about all I know at the moment, but I'm sure we'll hear more in the coming days...

FETorino
05-24-2013, 09:50 PM
Wait... what? How many cubes you got? You know if I was smart I woulda said we compare hp/tq per cubic inch! :willy:

You go first....good...so I can turn up the wick when it's my turn. :unibrow:

I'd have to guess (hope) I'll be on the dyno by November. :lateral:

Dart Little M block
4.170 bore x 4.00 stroke = 437 cubes
10.8 to 1 compression
Joe Gibbs SB2.2 heads
Ported GM intake
Single 4150 Holley style carb (will dyno 2-3 carbs)
6 stage dry sump system

I guess he meant Nov 2013:stirthepot:

As your temporary counsel (I can't continue at these loss leader prices), I must advise against openly criticizing any owner of a non-LS engine.

Man... you guys shoulda seen me gettin bossed around the kitchen today.. :willy:

Happy Turkey Day fellerz. Rob won't be thankful he owns a FE motor for very much longer. :D

DG was this the gem you meant? Turkey day is that what we call the 4th of July?:lmao:

Since this is a pro touring site. How about between 3500 and 7000 or a specific rpm value over peak hp down say 3000-3500 rpm. 2500 rpm is peaky for autocross, speed stop, and street.

That is what Dave and I agreed on. I have to take my 3500-4500 data from one of my initial out of tune gas runs and add it to my final E85 pull. This should give DG a better chance at the avg game. He will still fail.:mock:

We ran a couple ease in runs from 3000 to 5 and 5500 but there is no reason to be hard on the dyno and run from 3k to 7200 so we did our tuning runs from 4500 to 7200 so that is the data I have.

Hey I'll piece in the runs from 3000 to 4500 with the rich jetting and 4 deg of timing pulled out of it to the 4500 to 7200 runs. It was still making plenty of motivation down low on the insurance tune.:D

Assuming Dave's engine survives being built and dyno'd, wouldn't these guys need running, driving cars to argue about which motor is going to blow up first?

adjustable vacuum regulator.... my Weiss pump can pull some extreme vacuum (more than I want/need) so I can turn it up for a track event and turn it down for street. I'll likely run a safe setting 99% of the time. Not worth the few extra ponies IMO.

Let's see some hp/tq goals from both?

The goal is 700ftlbs of torque, a big flat torque shelf. Peak hp is targeted at 6k rpm or just a little over and we think 700 will be seen for sure.

I am targeting 750 hp @ 7k rpm or less and 625 ft lbs.

Hmm looks like someone exceeded goals and someone came up short. :hitaxeonthehead:

My only decision with that is do I wanna beat ya by 50 hp or lay the hurt on ya and go for 100 plus. :D

Interesting foreshadowing there.

Placed my order for personalized licensed plates.

Whole bottle of salt in the wound...:D

It makes DG happy.

I was under the impression we were building motors to compete in the 3500 -7000 rpm range. But if 4800-7500 is apples to apples in your guys eyes looks like I got beat pretty good on hp.

I guess the rules changed over the past year while we were waiting for Flash's motor :lmao:

My dinosaur did make the best peak torque by a couple of lbs and avg torque is pretty much a wash depending on what rpm range you work off.

So I'm stoked on my feeble 700hp 642ft lb dinosaur.

The salt is fine with a little lime and a Pacifico or Victoria. Keep it coming if you like. :relax:

I was under the impression we were building motors to compete in the 3500 -7000 rpm range.

We did. But professional engine builders don't let customers run the dyno.... in their basement..... with the gimp tied up around the corner.

So you know I didn't get a 3500 and up dyno run. So the closest I got is 3900 to 7000. Post up your average torque in that range since the HP war is a lost cause. :action-smiley-027:

Avg torque 3900 to 7000 = 595.9

(range on the sheet is 3900 to 6500 so I had to manually calc it)

Really DG? You think that answers the question. Your torque peak is at 5700 rpm. So if we say your optimum torque curve is within 2600 rpm 1300 above and below that peak your range is 4400 to 7000. Great for you we both ran dyno runs in that range cuz dyno owners and operators don't like beating on their dynos at low RPM.

For me my torque peak was at 4900 so using the same logic that is 3600-6200. I don't have any E85 Dyno #s from 3600 to 4500.

At 4500 my motor on E85 made 40 lbs more torque than my first gas dyno test run at 4500. In otherwords my 3600-4400 data is Sh:censored: if you feel good about it use those #s and you will probably win but considering on your best hp run you posted your motor was down 2lbs of torque from my peak I don't think that tells the true story.

That would make as much sense as us saying whoever had the best #s at say 4500 rpm is the winner. :headscratch: I like that one:D

FE , :Tomcat: ,SB2.2
TQ HP, :Tomcat: ,TQ HP
635.3 547.2, :Tomcat: ,558.1 478.2

:y0!: If that car ever runs then there is a way to settle this.

Help me out #s wizard.

Was your peak 1.36 hp per ci # at 5250?

What would you say 620.4 divided by 489 would be?

What would the significance of that # be?

What is 700.7 divided by 496?

You're a smart guy you'll figure it out.

Who should post the answers you or I? :mock:
