Anodizing parts?

Anybody sent out parts for anodizing? Is it hard to match?

The reason I ask is so many parts today come anodized. For example, say you go and purchase the Ring Brother's hood hinges and clutch master. Beautiful pieces but overall the engine compartment would look much better if you could match that color on other parts like PS reservoir, overflow, accessory drive, etc. That way you'd have a consistent color theme throughout.

Just wondering how that is accomplished. Also, are the parts polished prior to anodizing?

Thanks!the gray is not consistent. Same process for black just left in the tank shorter, and if it is not pulled at the exact time every time, the color will vary. If you want gray and want it to match, have it all done at once.

I agree with the above statement. Even black is sometimes not consistant from batch to batch.

Thanks. That's interesting about grey just being half baked black.

I was afraid it was difficult to match. Back when having it all polished was cool I guess this wasn't as much of an issue ha.

So does anyone know if the parts are polished first? Most vendors offer polished as an option but not always raw/natural. If it has to be raw/natural that might make it tough to get it all purchased and then sent out for anodizing.

no it does not but will change the sheen depending on natural or polished.

well heres the problem black anodizing has a horrible rep for fading staining ect ect,

the sheen all depends on the surface finish prior and how long is was left in the sulfuric acid AND the grade of aluminum as well.

There is a lot of variables when it comes to getting parts anodized. I can help you out in this if needed I work at an aerospace/ag/plating facility let me know if you have any questions and i can ask the experts.

ALSO make sure, DAMN SURE there is no steel or stainless in the parts or you wont have any parts left, and some angry platers.

In my honest opinion if you want durability, go powder coat.

This is a small piece for my intake that I did at work, just hit it with a red scotchbrite pad then onto the process. dont mind my DIY distributor hold down (bead blasted and electroless nickle plated)
