more info would help give you a specific answer, but everything DSE sells and does is top notch.

i have an 9" rear from Detroit speed and the rear is very noisy and they will not repair it . So their service is very bad.

first off, they don't "make" the rear diff. They may sell a complete rear end, but another company physically makes the parts. The warranty would likely be between you and the manufacturer whomever that is. What exactly has DSE told you, and who are you speaking with over there? I cannot imagine them refusing to help, there has to be more to this story.

If he gave them as much information as he's posted here.... it's little wonder he's getting the response he's getting.

To the OP (original poster) -- aftermarket rear end gears are noisy in most cases -- they are PERFORMANCE parts not your grandmothers buick parts... so if you're hearing gear whine on declaration - that would be normal. Is that what you're hearing?

9" third members come preset. Your issue is with the manufacturer if there is a legitament problem. DSE uses Moser, which uses Motiv gears, and they can have noise, especially if it has a Tru-Trac in it.

yeah, tru tracs can get pretty noisy, but what noise are you experiencing and what fluid are you using?

which one applies to your situation
Howling- accelerating, deceleration, up hill, down hill coast
Whine
Knocking- heavy, moderate, and light (clicking)
Rubbing noise-turning left or right

The rear is new used about 200miles

That's the key word right there..... "used!!". Regardless if it was said to only have 200, like new miles on it. When you buy used, you buy as is. I'm pretty sure that was stated somewhere in the sale. Especially, if it was being sold off another person's car who wanted to go another route.

Did you follow the break in process right. After install It must be driving 20-30 miles (vering speed's but not thrashing on it) then allowed to fully cool. Then repeat the process. If the break in process is not followed to the letter it will make noise. This is not DSE's or Moser's problem.DSE is very easy to work with. They do thing's right and ask that their customer's do the same.

I've ridden in all their test cars and a few of my own, they all have some gear wine. Its pretty standard I think.

Like he said 1. Did you break it in correctly? If not then you may be the cause of the problem.

Additionally
2. What gear oil are you running?
3. Who did you buy the third member from?

Different gear sets are different. Some are consistently noisier. The ratios and the carrier play a role in the amount of noise. Did your conversations with the builder say your goal was performance and durability or quiet comfort?

Bottom line is some noise is an acceptable consequence of a performance rear. You aren't describing the noise and when it is occurring so who knows if this is what you have or if it is improper break in or if it is a mistake on the builders part.

Every 9 inch ford gear set I have ever used whined.Even after correct break in.I have many differant brand's.And they all have forum of nosie.I think that is par for the course.

You could try wrapping the carrier in several layers of Dynamat. It worked great on the whining noise my first wife made.

Well if that don't muffle it then I'd just run open headers to drown it out!

I bought the third member from detroit speed brand new and do the break in after instruction from them. I use non syntetic gear oil from texaco 80-90w

What is the noise?

Does it howl?
Does it whine?
Does it knock or click or clunk?
Does it do it under acceleration or deceleration or cruise?

If the gear set is whinning when power is on,& no noise when off the throttle this is an indication it's time for a new ring & pinion.

Its time to change the oil anyway swap to Lucas 85 / 140.

If that and some more break in miles isn't quiet enough plan B.

Since when should properly set up gears whine? I've never heard a peep out of mine. Of course, my cars not a kitten either. :D

Yeah, but even if it did, we certainly wouldn't been able to hear it over the whining about brake pad knock back, or valve lash, or whatever else has to get changed out on big blocks frequently

you must be running a pansy exhaust system if you can hear anything other than the engine...put some free flowing mufflers on the car, then buy a mans sound system and let her rip, problem solved....

Did I read/hear that 9 inchers are more prone to this noise than 12 bolts? Thought I did....

Alright, so I've never actually heard mine make a whining noise. However, I have heard it make a popping/clanking noise once or twice when pulling away from a stomp, same goes for Bad Penny. A little disconcerting but they're still going strong.

If its a constant whine and doesn't change with accel or decel it maybe a pinion preload issue. Sounds like you'll have to have it set up again.

If you can, get it inspected. Any good shop can pinpoint a differential noise.
