Last summer for whatever reason, I sold my 69 Camaro SS. I am regretting it now after seeing some of the fine transformations on this website. I'm a long time lurker. Since it's pretty much almost March and eventually this horrible snow is going to leave us, I was wondering why there isn't many older stangs on this website. I know I am itching to get my hands on an older ride. I really want to fix up a 68 mustang, maybe 67. I can't find many fine examples online compared to the almighty Camaro, though. Why is this?

When you bought your cars, were you concerned about numbers matching or just a nice straight car? Any info or suggestions would be appreciated.

I cant really be for sure, but my guess is that the Camaro's ability to be changed, modded and the wide variety of performance parts out there make it a good canidate for the pro-touring style. Also, GM made a boat load of first gen's, so they are relatively inexpensive and easy to find.

For me, i dont care so much about #'s matching... some do, just not me. I bought a car that was an old 6 cyl. threw a 350 in it and some other fun stuff and called it a day.

IMHO, i like to drive my cars, not stare at them.

I have a '68 Coupe in my driveway waiting for it's turn when my Camaro is done.

I think it sort of a catch 22.. people build first gens because there is a ton of aftermarket support for them.. there is a ton of aftermarket support for them because people build them.

It's the chicken and the egg deal. :)

I think Mustangs are great platforms and if you don't HAVE to have a fastback you can still get them for a great price.

you can find the parts for an old school mustang with a little research. Some of the time you have to make your own stuff. My brother and I are working on a 69
fastback and it has been a bit of a drag to find the parts we're looking for. You may even need to ask someone whos built on already to get some ideas on things.

Uhhhhh. I have found plenty of places that will take my money in return for trick mustang stuff (suspensions, brakes,........)

thanks. you can't really tell in the shaded pics, but the color is actually GM
"black cherry". the less flattering description would be "eggplant" ;-)
it looks black in the shade, but definitely purple in direct light.

its not a color I would have chosen (I bought it painted), but its really grown on me.

I'm thinking about putting a black GT rocker panel stripe on it for a very subtle contrast.
I got a red stripe kit for it before, but while mocking it up I learned:

red + black = cool
red + purple = blech
