Ive got an American Touring Specialties Xmember ready to bolt up and noticed according to instructions the side mounts bolt to the lower side of the frame rail .. Is this right? where as the original x member on a 1st gen camaro bolts to the top of the rail.
so long bolts are needed to complete the install and thread right thru the rail?
why dont they supply these bolts in the 'kit' ?

My ATS crossmember is on top. Now that you mention it though I think I saw a drawing or instruction set for a crossmember that appeared to bolt on from the bottom and it seemed odd to me. I had assumed that was an error. I think there is a pic of mine installed in my build thread

Good Luck.

My crossmember is quite bouncy. I am going to add some gussets on the plate to the down tubes.

I have the previous design to this but it has very similar frame mounts - they bolt to the top side of the frame. I'm glad I got the first design. It's non-adjustable but appears to be a much stronger design. Mine doesn't move at all.

John , it does look like yours is bolted to the bottom of frame as well. I guess thats where it goes.. I just dont get why they dont supply bolts for this if all others are included. No big deal otherwise i guess.

Mine is between the subframe and the floorpan which I consider to be the "top". Sorry if the pic was confusing or unclear.

look one more time.
You cannot see the bolts in the picture.
also notice how the bracket is tucked in the pockets of the floorpan.
It is confusing. I can email you an installed pic if you need one!!

Yes.

It misses the floorpan by like 1/2".

But it does fit.

See this pic. It is a 70 camaro, but it mounts similarly.

Gav, I remember I had the same issue installing mine. That last picture is correct.

That is not a great picture, but if you look closly it is actually on the TOP side of the frame rail.
The instructions do not state to mount the brackets to the bottom side. they say Quote" Install both frame mount assemblies with adjustable ends to the frame using the factory holes and tightening hand tight."

sorry you have had trouble i will update the instructions to make it clear that they are to be installed in the original location.
thanks
