Or maybe I should have named it project "I never learn". Anyways, after having my 1st project (72 C-10) go through several bad shops (chassis, paint etc...) I got it 90% done and sold it to the 1st guy that showed me the money! I also sold a 55 Bel Air that needed to be completely gone through.
So now that leaves me with only two projects (67 C-10 CST & 69 RS Camaro) both are complete & painted. All I will do (hopefully) is do some mild mods to them and enjoy the hell out of them!
I ordered a Speedtech setup from Driverzinc a few months ago and it's been at their shop for the last few weeks getting the suspension installed. And after he gets the measurements for the wheels I will be ordering a set of NewGens for it.
Project details:
Speedtech-
Chicane kit (Ridetech coilovers)
Tubular control Arms
Swaybar
Torque Arm Kit (Ridetech coilovers)
NewGen Descendant wheels (19x8 front 20x11 rear)
Wilwood Big Brake setup (future)
AFX spindles (future)
Change a few things in the interior (i.e. center console, steering wheel etc....) and engine compartment (fan, front drive setup etc....)

That's how all of our projects start to spiral out of control. A little bit here, a little bit there and before you know it.....:pushbutto   Hey, I know you too from the 67-72 chevy truck site. Welcome bro.

Hey, thanks everyone!
I went from "opened a can of worms" to "started a family" to "have to work my a** off to support that family" all during that truck build. It's also were I discovered that not everyone (in the industry) conducts themselves with integrity & honesty (from quality issues, time lines to charging more than was discussed). I don't mean to sound bitter, but seeing some of the professionals building cars on this forum proves there are still guys out there that do the right thing. They do stuff for their customers & the industry that takes it to another level and inspires the next guy!
Anyways, back to the current project. Long story short this is not even my car, I'm just holding onto it until my oldest (16yr old) gets it. She has gone to car shows since she was in diapers and her favorite car has always been a silver 69 RS Camaro & now one is in our garage!
I found the car on ebay & watched it for awhile. It was about 90% of what I wanted in a 69 so I made him an offer. It has a 383 with a 4sp trans, mostly original interior, detailed engine, mini tubbed, ART shockwaves up front & leafs in back. I plan on keeping the original interior (going back to stock console), keeping the exterior the same and changing the suspension, brakes, wheels and maybe the drivetrain.
I think the biggest decision on this car will be the wheels! I haven't decided whether I want to do a polished, brushed, powder coated center & if I want to go with a standard chrome lip, brushed or two-toned. I like the all black (matte center/black chrome outer with polished hardware), the setup Ironworks has on their 55 & 68 Camaro (titanium center/matte black outer) and Jon @Driverz has one in the showroom (gun metal center/brushed lip). What do you guys think?
And maybe we can get Jon to post some updates on the car since I haven't seen it for over a month now:)

Well, it's mine until she has a house with a garage or I kick the bucket. All I know is she got mad when I pulled the Billet Specialties off the 55 & put them on the Camaro. She said they didn't fit the car! I just showed her some pics of some wheels & she likes either the gun metal or titanium center with chrome or brushed lip.
BTW-she's ok with her 1st car I purchased this year (64 VW vert). I wanted to buy her a new honda or something (no more projects), but she said she wanted an "Old School Bug". The 2nd pic is of my girls the day we went to look at the bug. Anyways, enough about my daughter. It's mine until I say so:_paranoid

Cool project, love the bug. You can't go wrong with a 1st gen  Sorry to here you had bad time with the shops you have used in the past. The one thing I can say to that is look for a shop that all the do is these kinds of cars, not a collision shop that uses your car for filler, one they will never finish it unless they have a guy that all he does is work on the projects, and two they will most times quote you a price that is a very good deal for you but as they get going they find out that at the rate they charged they are not going to make any money and more than likely lose money. So now you lose on quality and compltion date and most times get charged more money. No offence to any collision shops tht also do this type of work I know there are alot that do great work. Welcome to the site, and lots of good guys on here to help.

I understand what your saying. But all shops were either suspension, metal fab and classic autobody shops. It basically came down to people promising one thing & delivered another (ie 1st shop replacing the rockers and not test fitting the doors, using 1/4" of bondo on a smoothed firewall and "paint prison" for 1 1/2 year when I was quoted 4 months).
I was trying to build a SEMA quality truck & the final product fell a little short. As they say "it's all in the details". I think my biggest mistake was to find a local shop that did "good work", show them pics of what I wanted and have them tell me no problem. I should have put the truck on a trailer and actually taken it to the shop that originally built the car I saw in the magazine. I probably would have spent the same amount of money in the long run & had a better out come.
But I still love driving these "old" cars and I'm looking forward to hitting some car shows and maybe even see if I can drive this thing at the track (I live 20min from the Fontana Speedway, 10min from Adams track were Rob from No Limit goes).

[QUOTE=raguemoe;365730] "paint prison" for 1 1/2 year when I was quoted 4 months). QUOTE]
WOW talk about over promising and under delivering WOW is all I can say. I know things change as a project moves forward but it was just body and paint and it took 1 1/2 years, first time it was not worked on ok, second time I come back with my trailer and we go home together. Lucky for me I do not have that problem, but of corues I do not have much time to work on my own anyway so it does get stuck in paint jail  just can't yell at myself, if I do I just quit on myself.

It's been awhile since my last post & I've made some changes & had some setbacks. I changed my wheels to the NewGen Lites 19" all the way around (19x11 rear & 19x8.5 front). I also changed the tires to Bridgeston RE-11's (305's & 255's). Well, I had the clutch replaced after I got the car back from Driverz inc. and on the way home the pass. side wheel bearing grenaded on me.
So now I'm having Diff Works in Corona go through the rear end (new big Ford ends, new posi unit & Wilwood brakes installed). As soon as I get it back I should be on the road!
Next year I plan on upgrading the front brakes to the 14" Wilwood setup w/ATS spindles and change a few things under the hood.
Some pics of the wheels mocked up!

What do they say "one step forward, two steps back". My rear suspension was installed 1" off center and my rear wheels were built wrong and don't fit:drama: (see suspension forum).

Thanks guys! After the wheels are rebuilt with the correct offset I will have another inch of lip. And I'm real happy with the Speedtech setup, the car feels very tight and solid. After I get the rear sorted out I'm going to get it aligned & upgrade the front brakes. I'm looking forward to enjoying it next year, as I've been working so much and haven't really had anything that I wanted to take to the car shows.
I got my oldest out in the garage yesterday to help me bleed the brakes on her future camaro!
For anyone wondering what the "other" project was some pics!
I love this truck! That color is spot on! What color was it?
Can't wait to see pics of the Camaro.

It is Ford Lincoln silver (05 Navigator). I was happy to almost complete that truck, it came out just like the pic I had in my head for 6yrs. I still have my white 67 C-10 so I'm good!
