Hope everyone is well. I MAY have found a car in Canada I want to buy. Anyone have any experience bringing a car in from Canada? Customs issues, good transporter to use, all info would be very helpful.

Many thanks, :lateral:

Ryan,

Hope you are well. The car is in Blind Bay, BC. It is a black with gray Z/28 stripes 69 with an LS9. The owners area code is (250). Have you heard of this car? It has DSE everything, leather interior, T-65, etc., etc.

Hi Chris,

I saw that car on Ebay. The pictures look like they were taken at the Abbotsford auto show which is local to both me and Ryan, i wasn't able to go this year maybe Ryan saw it there?

I looked up where Blind Bay is and wow! talk about in the middle of nowhere!! its about 5-6 hour away from Vancouver

Ebay link, I think this is what you are looking at.

No never seen this car, but looks like Raj did some detective work. I could ask around. Not sure of very many builders in that area it's a resort type of summer town. Ask the guy who built it or where it was built.

Hey Chris - car seems to be a winner from a parts perspective. That LS9 motor rocks and can be upgraded real easy to 650 hp!

I would check w NA transport companies like Reliable or Exotic. I bet they have all the details about import, dutiies, etc. Good luck!

Definitely has the right pedigree. I'd still want to inspect it first...

My guess is it was built in Kelowna or Kamloops BC (whether that matters or not ) those are some larger towns in the area. But I still am not familiar with any builders up there.

Does look like a nice mix of parts, and looks like it fits all of Chris' requirements.

Don't think it would Kamloops. I don't think we have any builders here that are really into the pro-touring scene. We do have a few high end painters though.

Love the parts list and the car itself looks very well built, but I would still want to check it out first. Unless you have already checked it. Also Cris has not confirmed that this is the car yet. But how many more could there be from the same town in BC :unibrow: If this is the car this will be fun to have.

Well crap. The LS9 69 Camaro in Canada is no longer available. I was (am) ready but the car is off the market. So, still looking...

Thanks,
Chris

Just can't win, Chris did they sell it or just not up for sale any more. I'm sure you will find something to fill up your garage.

Hopefully another interested party didn't contact them upon seeing it posted in here and buy it outside of ebay.

Chris - did you PM the seller?

Ron,

No. Was set to connect today (via phone) when I noticed the eBay was down. I called and left a message this morning and have not heard back so I figure someone snapped it up. According to eBay, the item was unlisted because it is no longer available. Search continues....

Take care,
Chris

Most of the large items I've sold on ebay have been before the auction ended. Bird in the hand is better than 2 in the bush. :unibrow:

Flash,

Yea, I saw that. I phoned the owner and he seems like a good guy. The car has a great list of parts and the owner claims an appraisal of 345K. But, $250,000 is just too rich for my blood. Cool car though.

Chris

Uh, what? Worth 345K?

Hell, I don't think any of our cars on this site, (well maybe there are a few notable exceptions), are "worth" half of that much.

I'm sure it's just an appraisal for insurance purposes. People sure seem to like to throw those numbers around.

It is quite amazing what some people think their cars are "worth". :_paranoid

The search continues... good luck Chris.

Flash,

Yea, I think you are right; declared value insurance and all. Still, $345,000 seems like a big number for a custom car not built by someone really well known. At any rate, appraised value aside, the asking price is more than I have in my car budget.

Take care,
Chris

Hey Todd,

Mike, the LS9 Camaro from B.C. owner seemed like a really nice guy. I asked him why, after spending all this money he was selling the car with less than 100 miles on it and he said two reasons:

1) The project grew out of control (beyond budget)
and
2) The roads where he lives are horrible so he is worried about driving the car around town.

As I have said, great parts list but wow, that is a big number. His plan is to get his price or just keep the car. I cannot reconcile the bad roads and keep the car comments but hey, his car, so more power. Hope it works out for him.

Sadly, the search continues.

Take care,
Chris

Maybe that's how they lost track of time and put 2800 hrs. in a bolt together car. :_paranoid

If someone wanted to spend $250k+ on a car, they might as well have it built the way they wanted it, not be a bolt together car, and not be a sloppy second.. :)

Horrible ebay ad too.. :P

I have to agree with Mark, if someone is looking to spend that kind of coin than I think they would have it built to their specs. Also I can see where a project can get out of control, but if you need the money back and really want to sell it I think the asking number would be more in line with what it cost to build. Not saying he shouldn't try to make a profit but as stated for a "bolt together car with off the shelf parts" just seems on the higher side. But very nice looking car and very nice parts list.

Chris, I'd stay in touch with him. If he needs to sell it, eventually he will have to get realistic. Parts are great, would really want to see the execution first hand. That's going to be tough to do in the boonies. I really think that's going to be a big variable in the ultimate value of the car.

Todd,

Hope you are well. I do plan to follow the auction and keep in touch with the owner. My sense is that he will come down but not below $200,000. We will see.

Take care,
Chris

Are there any extra fees or duties that need to be paid when bringing a car across the border? I am having a shipping company bring the car here.

We have a free trade agreement in North America as long as the product was made in Mexico, Canada or the USA there is no duty. Might be some brokrage fees at the boared but they will be minimal. Call US customs they will give the low down.

My experience is bring cars from US to Canada so I not much help here other than to say I know the US wants you to check out the car from the states prior to bringing it into Canada...

Also I've been cautioned many a time to state,,, and do an official declaration with my cars if I intend to sell them while down at a show... The US Boarder crossing officers outwardly seem to be protecting possible tax revenues that would be applicable in the various states if I had to guess... I know they check all the cars I purchase for export to Canada for leans, loans, and any illegal history prior to me even leaving the USA with the cars when importing a new (to me) purchase...
