And, couldn't resist; I had to hear it.

Man Jeff, right after I stopped filming Dick hit the pedal a couple times. No confirmed tune on a new motor so we didn't rev it too much, but I had a$$ big grin on my face. Man, I stayed away from this thread (because I know how it goes) for quite a while hoping that when I came back Dead Pool would be laying some rubber down. Much to my disappointment, "laying some rubber down" seems to mean the wheels laying on their sides underneath the car. :headscratch:
Seriously though, that exhaust is looking and probably sounding good as well. I can't get a good idea with the video and playing it on my crappy laptop speakers.
Come on Ron! :gitrdun:

Shocking Update
So I’ve had Ron Sutton on speed dial for a while. The man is an absolute wealth of knowledge and his explanations are such that concepts become working knowledge. Me saying that is scary, I know. Before I go any further, props to Herb, Darren and Britt at Ridetech. Not the first time I’ve dealt or spoken with these guys and the service and attitude is top notch. Brett if you’re reading this, I believe that starts at the top and you run a first class outfit.
Some of you may remember the One Lap Three Amigos doing some pre-race test and tunes here in SoCal. Ridetech and Fox were out that day and they did some rebound adjustments and it worked out pretty well for those guys. Ron Sutton and I had already done some calcs on springs and swaybar rates, so I checked in with Herb Lump at the shock desk (great guy). He sent me the before and after dyno graphs and stated that the addition of a rebound adjustment helps track times but that the shock “liked more spring rate” when they added rebound. Here’s where the journey begins.
I sent Ron’s shock builder my shocks for dyno and revalving. From the dyno graphs Ron concluded the low speed rebound valving was too soft. Not wanting move away from Ron’s proprietary valving curve for optimum track performance, the shocks needed stiffer rebound valving at low speeds without pushing the high speed valving too high. Low speed valving in the 1” to 3” per second range is key to handling performance, but higher piston speeds control bumps.
A part of Ron’s secret sauce is achieving much stiffer low speed rebound valving, to keep the front of the car down during a corner, while not being too stiff in the part of the curve that affects bumps. This requires a digressive rebound curve. They did a lot of testing, but everything tried (shim stacks, replacement pistons) could not get the rebound as digressive as Ron wanted it. Ron took the time to work with Herb and Britt at Ridetech and they discovered Fox had a design for a digressive plate which would allow the rebound to be less linear at the top (higher piston and shaft speeds).
After reviewing the design, Ridetech made the digressive plate in-house. Darren shipped it out overnight to Ron’s shock guy. Ron says the digressive plate is just one piece of the puzzle, but with fine tuning of shock valving and piston bleed circuits, they tailored the curves to achieve Ron’s proprietary curve. After some testing and adjustments, along with Ron’s input on where and how he wanted the shock to perform, the shock was blessed and shipped to me this week. Yeah, it took a while; five parties had to be happy, but in the end it worked out great. I put the shocks back together last night and I’ll take them down to BoS and install them very soon.
At this point, we know the dyno graph looks great but really the proof will be how they perform. We won’t know that until the car hits the track. On paper you can make any shock look right with valving, but some brands will push you right into the wall when valved beyond their limits of grip control. I’m certain the Ridetech units will not have a problem as we didn’t set them on NASCAR (BMF) full kill.
More on this to follow!
It's 1st and goal buddy...
I think I just burned up two more downs :D

Yes Jerr he has -- this is his second time thru Bondurant --- and he's also done the ZO6's at Spring Mountain (3 day course) --- and has done 6 speed shifter carts.
However... the little Lotus can be driven quite fast... and therefore a "dust up" course was a prerequisite.

I changed engines (twice), transmission (once) front wheel offesets and widths twice, bumpers, spoilers, fenders, hood, master cylinders, pedals, brakes, steering wheel, shocks (twice) springs and sway bars about a thousand times and have a wash bay full of tires Gregg and I have tried out.
Either you are much more efficient at this than I am, having changed everything already, or you could potentially be far worse than me. I'm looking forward to finding out the answer soon!

modified LG Spindles, custom fabbed steering arm. Drops the car about 3/4" and adds 1/2 deg neg camber.
Ron, Do you have any pics of this steering arm? How did you arrive at the proper location for tie rod end? Did you just lower it 3/4" to account for the drop? I know wheel sizes are in here some where, but did it all package inside an 18" wheel without issue?

Hey Donnie! I'm outta town and will hunt up or take some pics for you next week.
How did you arrive at the proper location for tie rod end? Did you just lower it 3/4" to account for the drop?
Exactly. Put in the same location as the original and accounted for the higher mount points on the spindle. AME places the rod ends a little forward of the rack centerline to improve Ackerman. I have not tested for any bumpsteer yet but I will soon.
I know wheel sizes are in here some where, but did it all package inside an 18" wheel without issue?
Yep. Same location created no new issues.
......and we need an update.
Thx for asking Bro. I'm heading down next Friday with glass and body panels. The rollbar and other little bits should've been painted, and the dash will get finish wired. So I do have an update. Last few weeks have been absolutely swamped. Tonight was the first dinner at home in two weeks. Next week is no better, but I did take the opportunity to run down to BoS this afternoon and drop off some stuff. Friday afternoon shop BBQ, just what I needed
Also Matt was out testing today at BW. I'll let him tell you all about it, but what little I heard he's getting closer to being dialed in for Optima. Loved that text!
I was happy to see the dash painted and wired. Looks like guage placement will clear the steering wheel.

The rollbar is painted and we spent some time debugging some computer/harness issues. Learned alot today thanks to Dean @ BoS and John @ PSi. For the record, those two guys are money.
I also left the glass for install and the plan is to get the cockpit wrapped so we can head off to interior soon.
That's about it. Always a good day when you get to spend time with car guys you like amd move the project forward a step or two...

On my Brother in laws '69 with the DSE dash -- I ended up having the upholstery shop make a whole new one and had him cover it etc -- $1200 and it matches the rest of the beautiful job he did (rather than that cheap ass plastic thing) and fits like a glove.

Hey Vince! So this may only be a PSI harness configuration and like I said, John is always there for support. My issues are switched fan runs on start up, OBDII is not able to be read w a code reader or HP Tuners, check engine light does not come on momentarily upon start up, and the Tach is not reading a signal from the computer.
Sounds like a system meltdown right?
It's a ground and a resister issue and that's about it.
The car electrical system is currently is ground to the frame and the motor. To test it we ran a ground from the E38 computer to the battery. Also checked the pin outs:
OBDII Port:
POSITION 4 TO GROUND
POSITION 5 TO GROUND
POSITION 6 TO BLACK ECM CONNECTOR POSITION 28
POSITION 14 TO BLACK ECM CONNECTOR POSITION 27
POSITION 16 IS SWITCHED 12-VOLTS
Here's the Autometer Tach/resistor issue.

Pres, the lighting and iPhone pic makes it look much lighter. There is a very very slight difference in the color (I think) and that's due to the waterbourne paint used on the bumper.
Interesting thought on FG -> chrome look. I'm not an expert, but I think a 'chrome' wrap is the easiest way to get there. Can you powdercoat FG? If so, there's some nice polished aluminum finishes that sorta come close. Not perfect for sure, but I'm guessing you're not building a show car. If it were metal you'd have alot more choices.

Slow and informal for right now. Which is good for this time of year. I have a lot of things pulling me in different directions. I'm working on some small things for 2 local clients. You may see them show up out there. They have names in the industry. I can't say until they agree. I want to do it right and not sink before I start swimming. Thanks for asking! You may see them show up out there. They have names in the industry. I can't say until they agree. I want to do it right and not sink before I start swimming. Thanks for asking! When I get things rolling a bit more, I will hopefully be a site vendor.
Chad I'm very happy for you! When the time is right, post up some jewelry
Thanks Ron -- That’s the same kit I have.
Lol -- I wish I could convince the wife into "letting" me do that but I don't think that’s in the cards this year! And considering you gave me shock envy and I got convinced to change mine out I don't think this Feb is in the cards!
Goodguys Puyallup in 2014 (Yes Lenie, weather permitting I will be there!) and out to you the next year
I didn't give you shock envy. We both got it a long time ago
Raj...save me a spot! And now Ron, back to you.:thankyou:
Puyallup would be a fun road trip!

Finally got to see and hear this ride in person this weekend at BOS. Stunning build. Love everything about it. Even more fun to see is the enormous ear-to-ear smile on Ron's face when he fired it up. Sounded very potent.
You're getting very close now my friend.
Chris always great to see you and your wife! That ear-to-ear thing, I've had it since I was a kid. Some people are close talkers; I'm a big smiler :D
Wait. What?
No video?
It's buried in the thread. New one coming when I drive it Bry

WM, first thank you for your service to our country. :flag2:
I'm following your thread and think it's great that you're doing a project with your daughter. I hope to do something similar with mine one day also (she wants to drive, she's gotta learn how to wrench instead of complain about how long it takes me, lol). Appreciate the comments too!
Friends? Here?? Yeah, they're ok... :underchair:

:BlahBlah: Rub it in .. I have learned that I need to start planning these kind of "fun" trips more than 4-5 days before an event.
Maybe next year. (typical Farmer eh!)

On a more serious note, here's some stuff in process. I was planning on driving it on Wed but I don't think that's gonna happen. Really the only thing preventing us is the clutch master. Wilwood was supposed to ship a new one out two weeks ago. We expected it on Friday and as of today it's still not there. I'm calling tomorrow to track it down.
The killer new front and rear window molding is not gonna work; it was a cross between floating the glass and a simply rubber spacer. One last sample to try and then we go back to the older style 'T' molding.
We're also chasing one last ECM -> fan issue. I think it's the old style Maradyne controller and we're gonna track down PSI Jim and Autorad tomorrow to see if that might be the issue. I think Autorad dumped them as a vendor, so take that for what it's worth.
After that it goes on the lift for a nut/bolt and a few mechanical issue gremilins which is nothing serious.
I will post a vid as soon as it's driving.
