I didn't watch it. Didn't feel compelled. I'm burnt out on the whole "have to have X product built by X day" like they did for years on American Chopper and all the shows of the like.

Deadlines = cut corners. Are they trying to beat the flat rate?

I agree. Why can't these networks just produce show's w/ real car guys like( DSE,Lakeside,Ironwork's,Roadster shop,to name a few) building nice cars.Show real good fabricator's not butcher's.I don't want to watch a bunch of hack's yelling, cussing, throwing thing's.Leave that BS to Jerry Springer.I wonder if Bud Bruston produced this show.Built or bust was also a bomb.

The idea for this show was a Canadian (Toronto) series that ran a few years ago on Global TV.

Are there ANY new ideas for TV shows or are we forever condemned to watching re runs and re makes of older TV series.

Is originality a dying virtue ?

I agree, I enjoying seeing the craftmanship. Seeing something, anything, go from idea to completion.

Back when American Chopper was hot, I really enjoyed seeing what Nub (http://www.nubgrafix.com/) came up with for paint and the processes he used for different effects. He's insanely talented. I would love to see a TV show just following him around, showing how he goes from talking over a project in the office to the final product coming out of the paint booth. That goes for any great craftsman and shop - many of which you mentioned - would make for a good show. There's soooo much more to building a car than how fast you can assemble it.

The problem with programs like this is that they aren't made for the "real car guys", they are made for the wanna be's and the general public. The producers are more concerned with drama then the actual content of the show, because they are after ratings, which are driven by the general public. As long as that is the case we will never truely have a good show without the BS deadlines and panzy-ass bickering.

What I got from it,
There wasn't much shown as far as building or fabricating. Mostly focused on the made-up drama between the cast. Lots of commercials. I 100% agree, the whole "deadline" concept needs to die a quick and painful death.

That is what I realized about this program too.. The focuse was on the overall conflict, and not the actual fabrication.. What did they actually show being done? They showed components, but didnt show how they were used..

I must say that I do like the deadline builds, when done like Overhaulin... Sure that show lacked a bit of the fabrication, but it did show what it took. Boyd's show took longer on the builds, but its main focus was also conflict. There has to be a happy medium here...LOL

I really wanted to like the show, and was hoping it would be like the old Junk Yard Wars program that was on years ago. Sure Junk Yard Wars was corny, but it had alot more build substance on less...LOL Why cant they have a quality car building show with that style of team work, and attention to fabrication and problem solving.?

I thout it was funny that one team built a straight axle car and they never even mentioned it until it was completed...they just said "we are making modifications". I felt like this was one of those steps that you should actually show to help the viewers understand how radical a change it was from original.

Fun show to film! We really enjoyed the experience. That said, I agree that there needs to be a show that focuses on real day to day car building- focusing on fab, quality, how-to and teamwork. That's what so many of us want to see.

Who knows, maybe we're not the target anyways, right? We all spend time working on our projects, not in front of the boob tube anyways....

It is nice to see Speed focusing on cars and builds nonetheless. Hopefully it will lead the way to more good car TV. Drama and sex do sell.....regardless, many of us stick to our laurels and do it the old fashioned way: with quality craftsmanship, ingenuity and good 'ol fashioned customer service.

Whether you love it or hate it, be sure to tune in for episode #7 on April 6th!

Watched the first 5 minutes and changed the channel. Patiently waiting for my next potential client to call and ask why should he pay 250 hours for a paint job when he just watched someone on tv build a complete car in 72 hours.........

I watched on TiVO and turned it into a 15 minute show. The only reason I kept watching was to see Jimmy Shine (one of the judges) at the end. I really enjoyed his show he had a while back with people working at So Cal speed shop. (I think the premise was to get a job there.) Too bad he attached himself to this turd.

I am in agreement with everyone else, deadline shows suck!

We can only hope that this show teaches the producers how NOT to make a successful show. Maybe one day they will get it right. 72 hours is stupid, anyone with an ounce of sense knows that will only get you a piece of crap. The whole thing was mixed up, confusing junk.

Who were those "stars"?

I really enjoyed the tv show Rides. It wasn't about deadlines either. Almost a "how it's made" type of show for car guys. Bring that back or something like it?

I have the show recorded, but after hearing these reviews, I'll delete it.

Rides was the best. I also like Dream Car Garage, but speed dropped that.

Every car TV show on now sucks.

Two Guys Garage and Stacy's Gearz aren't too bad. I can usually pick up a few techniques or tricks from those shows, so there not a total waste.
Stacy's tricks like Malox for anti-seize are entertaining. The guy on 2-Guys can definitely handle MIG and TIG.

For the most part the new generation of shows are not for enthusiast, they are just dumbing down America one episode at a time.

Mike nailed it here, the problem with shows like this is the average guy watches and then tries to bring his car into the shop and get it done in an insane amount of time and for a 1/3 of the money. The old saying goes you get what you pay for and if you are paying for time and quality you can’t cut the corners.

Think of it like this:

Fast, Good And Cheap

Fast, Good and Cheap represent three aspects of a project – the timeline, the quality and the budget. Depending on the situation they are sometimes fall into requirements or even constraints. The fact is that usually these three are combined by the “Tyranny of OR”. One can choose either

•fast and good OR
•good and cheap OR
•fast and cheap

The option of all three is not considered to be practical.

The Triangle

http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj73/FeslerBuilt/Triangle.jpg

I have been able to represent this the best by setting them at three different points of a triangle. You can choose any one side of the triangle. These three points can also be considered to be different costs of the project. You can ignore the one that you can afford to. In reality, no one can afford any cost, it is either a compromise or an investment, depending on how you look at it.
