View Full Version : 1966 Mustang Restomod
We are starting a new project. It is a nice 66 Mustang Coupe with a 289 and automatic. We will be adding Rod & Custom coilover front suspension, rear disc brakes, Procar Elite seats, Flaming river steering wheel and column, and steel style wheels with BFG tires. The owner bought it in 1980 and was painted and the engine rebuilt about 10 years ago.
Here is what we are starting with

Looking good so far. All those goodies should be a drastic improvement in how the car performs. Are you staying with the leaf rear and auto tranny?

Yes the owner wants to keep the leaf spring and auto
Brian finished cutting, grinding, and wire wheeling now it is time to start installing the Rod & Custom crossmember.

Looks great! Have you used that front suspension before and how well does it handle?
Thanks Mike

We did it on a 1970 Mustang before and I only got to drive it a couple of miles but I liked it and installed the suspension in my car but it is not finished.
Brian has the shock tower patches fit and tack welded in place

Great work Rusty. Looking real good.
We took the engine apart today and I can't believe how clean it is.

I also epoxy primed the fender aprons and block sanded them. I found a few low spots so I added a little more filler than block it out.

To keep the engine compartment clean we are running the wires outside the fender aprons. Brian drilled a couple of holes to hold the clamps and than used plastic clips that will be under the fender so you won't see anything.

We have the engine installed and are waiting for a set of headers. The first set we had would not clear the steering.

That looks sweet in there.
looks very clean....you just have to paint that cap to match the orange plug boots
It looks like a Mustang again.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v393/rusty428cj/1966%20Mustang%20Restomod%20Coupe/124.jpg
We are still waiting for a few parts to finish this project. The first set of headers did not clear the steering so we ordered a set for a fox body.
It's tight but everything fits
