Ever since I talked to Tony Whatley's friend (I can't remember his screen name) on HRPT that had his wheel centers sprayed with tinted clear, I've been thinking about doing the same. I talked to Kurt about it, he said no problem. So I've been playing with the concept in photoshop. I guess after 3 summers of driving, I want to make a change. This would be an easy one.

1. As it is now.

Scott,I think your car is awesome as it is. But I think a little tinting really makes the red pop.Just find something that is right for you. Scott M.

I really like the look of numbers 6 and 7. 80% may be as good or better but 6 & 7 look better in the pics.

They make your car look more aggressive.

They make your car look more aggressive...

As do all darkly-colored wheels w/polished hoops, makes them very competitive looking...that's the main reason why I don't like full-polished wheels, too flashy for my tastes...unless it's a solid black car.

I say do it Scott, change them up if you're tired of the look...it's only color.

I am diggin 30%.
Its just subtle enough where you have to do a double take to catch it.

I say go dark. just for the reason i think it looks like dirty brake dust on the lighter tints

Scott,

Your car says crisp, clean and smooth to me. It is very much so art in my book and a look/build I greatly appreciate. I spent a bit of time looking at each of the pictures you posted and honestly the darker the tint, the less I liked the car. It's a look that doesn't complement or blend in my opinion. I say leave it the way it is.

Scott, do you have a brushed/powdercoated center on the car right now? It is kind of hard to tell from the pictures.

I personally love the look, and have been thinking of doing the same myself, but wasn't sure what the change entailed, so please keep us posted if you decide to to anything.

BTW I like the range between 30-50 percent.

personally I think the smoke tint is fighting the white stripes. I would leave it alone or silver, but it is your car, your choice at the end of the day

Scott, I think it looks killer as it sits. But, if you are looking for change, I say the 30% tint looks pretty bad ass.

You have only 1 option.

Carbon Fiber stripes and 60% tint on the wheels. Call me for your replacement panels in satin.

There you have it! I have to go with Tyler. It would transform the car and look so aggressive.

I love dark centers on red cars but have to agree that it fights the white stripes a little. Something that may help tie it in without replacing all the panels in C/F would be to paint the outline around the stripes in a dark grey. Maybe even double it's thickness to butt it right up to the white hiding the red edge and the white border and make it a little less o.e. and a little more sinister. Just my $.02

Scott ---

The way it is now looks killer. If you're going to color the wheels - then I think you have to go all the way and match/pick up on, the blacked out grill... otherwise there's just too many colors going on. You have chrome - red - white - black... :>)

Maybe look around the engine room and see a trend and then carry that to the exterior.

If it was mine - I'd take it down to the bare frame and just start over! :willy: :wow:

I'd say 50%. Reminds me of the anthracite finish on Kinesis wheels.

And you should make it a satin/matte clear coat!

I'd say leave it alone.

Leave it alone, the red is shiney, the white is shiney, the wheels have full polish,

IF, you had built it like the Devil, you could get away with tinting the wheels, but you have the white, so stay with the wheels,

Like my car with the Techni color Fikse Profil 13's, since the car is so dark, Deep Fathom Green Metallic, a flat or darker center would bring out too much dark hues, I feel that the car will contrast good with the chrome bumpers and polished wheels, especially in the bright Florida sun, but since its in the garage in parts I could be completely WRONG!!!

I voted the 20% but for that hassle I'd leave it alone looks great as is.

Maybe for a easy change tint the windows more, that would look sick IMO.

Scott I'd go 30 to 40%, max. I would want to still be able to see the fine machining details on those HREs through the clear and if you go too dark, that will be lost...I've been considering doing this exact thing with my Fikses.

I don't think any of them look better than it does now. I do understand the "need" for a change though.

If you do change, I think if you go any more than 30% then you are going into too much contrast with the rest of the car (shine, chrome, stripes, accents, etc), although you could take care of that by going with a newer and darker paintjob:unibrow:

I vote leave it...

And I know it's just the sunset reflection and/or a warm white balance on the camera, but I kind of like the hint of gold in the first pic...call me crazy.

Lots of feedback.

I totally understand having too many colors, but hey, if Big Red can do it... :D

Here's a shot of the wheels I was referring to from HRPT. It was on 2010 Camaro that was white with orange stripes (69 Pace Car colors). I wish I could remember the owner's name, he has (or had) a 69 Camaro and has posted here.

The tinted clear gave the wheels a light titanium/stainless steel look that I thought was cool.

well now that you mention it scott... yes i think gold centers would look killer!!! go for it!
the pick that you just show does give the metal a high-tech look, it will probally be hard to catch in full shot pictures but in person i bet it will make a huge difference. i say go for a light tint to them.

If you're considering tinting them a different color entirely, I'd say a bronze color would look awesome!

I would do all black anodized or dark gunmetal .Any other color just don't flow with red.

Tinting automotive clear and spraying it over polished metal is a bad idea, because it will peel no matter how you clean or prep, spraying adhesion promoter will kill the polished look . Anodizing is the only option for finishing polished aluminum if you want that laminated glowing look that only candy paint or anodizing gives.

I'd say just leave it as they and save up some cash and get a second set of wheels that give it a totally different look, that way you can have the best of both worlds. Besides someone has to try to catch up to Bad Penny:rofl: .

Same thought.. I have red and white 69 as well.. (not nearly as nice). I toyed with the idea with going with black or silver finish in the center, but I thought it didnt work with the white.

I voted to leave it alone as is. I like the brushed aluminum look against the red. So far I think the tinted clear only looks good on Black, Silver, or Charcoal colored cars.

So when are we gonna see the wheels all in black or gunmetal?:lolhit:

I would like to see 70% or 80% but then you would have to paint the stripes as well.

I never heard of anyone tinting their wheels? Would this be done when tinted film?
