I'd pay $30 to ship a .10 part :unibrow: Oh wait, I've done it a few times.

It's "pay up" or do without.... not much choice in these matters sometimes.

usually when I'm faced with this type of dilemma -- I find something else in the catalog I can use... and add to the order

What I love is when you are buying something like door panel clips that could fit in an envelope with a .44 cent stamp and be good, but you have to pay $10 for S&H....logic goes out the window when building cars.

I would agree with Greg. I've ordered parts where the shipping/handling was almost as much as the part, so I just ordered more and the shipping was still same price. If it's a special part/piece, just have to bite the bullet.

If NPD sells it let me know, I can ship it for you no prob. I work like 2 blocks from there, so its not even really out of my way.

Classic Industries is the biggest rip-off out there...Classic Shipping is what I call them because that's where they make all their $$$.

Freight is freight. It doesn't matter if the part inside the box is $2 or $200.

Did you call to place the order or just try to order it online? Online ordering doesn't always have an option for USPS shipping, it would be very difficult to calculate exact shipping based on the weight of each individual product, it's size, your zip code, etc. It's far easier to just have a flat rate. However, if you actually call to place the order they might be able to "downgrade" shipping to US Mail and save a couple bucks.

Do what you can to find a local vendor. If that won't work for you then bite the bullet and order a few more items to make the shipping worth it. Good luck.

I work for a business that mostly sell to other business (and not car parts)
however for us to even ship an order the minimum it cost our company is about
$35 so that these guys are even willing to sell a part that is just a couple of bucks is almost amazing to me. Even if they charge $10 in shipping and handling they'll loose money on orders like that. It is more a customer service thing that they do it. They hopefully make it up on all the bigger orders they ship.
Knowing this I don't have a problem with it, I just make sure I order a bunch of stuff at the time.

I do what Greg does.... I make sure I find some other stuff I need or get together with a friend that needs stuff and make the order worth it.

Most of that tiny stuff can wait until I need something else too....or find a local vendor.

We ordered a chopper out to site, last year because we needed 2 allen head bolts, grade 8, 1/2". $5 part....$20,000 freight charge. Live in Australia so its best now not to fret about the shipping, necessary evil.

Call Matt's Classic bowties, I've found them to be much more reasonable on shipping.
