67 Camaro - Dad and Son build [Archive]

Well Ill give a bit of history on the car and will try to update as we go, have problems, questions ect. The car was a plane jane 1967 camaro that has been in my family since 1969. My grandfather worked for GM his whole life and in 1967 when the camaro came out a manager at where my grandfather worked got a 1967 camaro in butternutt yellow with a 327, powerglide and not to many options. Well in 1969 when the body was revised that manager wanted to get a 1969 camaro. So his 1967 was then put up for auction and my grandfather having 6 kids all around the driving age put a bid in of $200 for the car. Well as the story has it he won the car. My dad tells me stories of when my grandfather brought the car home and he wanted the car. The car was then passes along the girls (my aunts) up untill 1991 where it was then parked. My dad always told himself that one day he would have the car. Around 2000 me and my dad went and picked the car up from my aunts house. We picked at the car little by little not really knowing where to start. Up untill now.

I have been doing alot of research and I think/hope these are going to be the final plans for the car. I will be getting pictures up the next time I am at the car. We plan on holding off on the body as it pretty much needs everything at this point and we have decided for this summer to try to tackle the mechanical stuff and make the car a great driver first. Please if you have some opinions/comments share. Input is always a good thing. The goal for the car is going to basically be a great cruiser with a couple of dragstrip trips in store and mabye road/auto course later down the road. We want to be able to run at least mid-low 11's with the car. Around 550-600 wheel. With that in mind..here is the current list..and the current wish list for the car.

So the following has been order.:
Moser 12 bolt rear 3.73 gear 35 spline wavetrack diff.
Wilwood full brake set up. 6 piston up front and 4 piston in the rear 12.1 drilled/slotted rotors all around.
Ricks stainless steel tank set up for efi.

Big thanks to frank over at prodigy customs..next up is the t56 magnum and the lsx 454 soon after that...its going to be an awsome summer and I have been waiting and dreaming of doing this with me father for the last 10 years...

Heres an update from last week..we have takin apart almost the whole car and are waiting till next winter or summer to tackle the body. Its just to much money to put out at once...we basically need everything body wise so we decided to just get the car in perfect working order first and then worry about how it looks. With that being said the whole car is basically stripped and ready for some new parts. Here is where we are at now.

Alright guys..need some help here...EFI or Carb? Heres the motor Im going with:

I have questions for both. I have done research on both and from what I have gathered EFI seems to be more expensive for this motor because I basically need everything..enlighten me please..

Ive tried to see what others have done with this motor but because it is new not many have run it that I can find..I believe it is the same set up as a ls7 correct..? I dont want to just rule out EFI untill I know it is not suited for me. The car will be a nice cruiser with some drag strip trips in store. I feel like I might be leaning to carb set up because it seems to be easier and I just want to really weight both options fully. Help me guys. Thanks Steven

Alright so I went to the old mans house last night and started putting the brake kit together. Still need to strip the old drum hubs and get them all ready but that will probley be tonight or this weekend..hope to have the brakes pretty wraped up by monday.. heres some pictures..and btw safety wiring is not fun...

Thanks guys..got most of the front brakes together this weekend...alot more steps then I would have thought of..but overall not to bad..cleaned up the old spindals and they look so much better...Ill have some pictures up soon..and the rear should be here today or tomm from moser..so install soon..:thumbsup:

Yea it takes some time to figure it out..I messed with that tool for at least a half an hour trying to figure out how to work it ..then finally viewed a video on youtube and it all clicked. Just read the instructions well and take your time and youll be fine. Theres a diagram on the instructions on how to safety wire (which way ..ect)..Yes they are the stock drum spindals..depending on if you have drum or disc spindals depends on the hardware you use to bolt the caliper adapter plate to it. If you have any questions feel free to ask me. :thumbsup:

Speaking on Frank..the rear will be here today. Also anyone know any good sites or links to an exploded view of the front end..like down to the nut and bolt..? Torque specs for the front end also..? Im almost ready to start putting it together but I want to get all my info together first. Thanks Steven

well its here and I finally got to open up the box and work on it some...not the best pictures but they will do for now..The rear was ordered with no finish as me and my dad said we would just por-15 it in the same black that we did the front frame. We got it all out, set it up and did the first two steps of the process..degrease, then rinse with water, metal ready, then rinse with water again...let dry...open up the can of por-15 and its solid as a rock..so we order more paint today and hopefully well have it by the weekend. We should have what we need after its painted to put the rear all together as a rolling assembly.

As for the front frame when we had the powder coater do the front arm and other little things we didnt think about the ball joints and sure enough they where toast. So we ordered new upper and lower ball joints and they should be here by friday also. We also ordered the AIM manual and the alingment shims. Hopefully the sub frame can be a rolling assembly also soon. Anyone care to chime in on if I have the steering arms mounted correctly? I believe they are to face twords the rear of the car...

Ok so the box from ricks camaro never came and I wanted to do the front end today also. At least get the new ball joints pressed in the upper and lower arms..but no fedex. So I just worked on the rear. The por-15 came in yesterday so I went over to my dads and painted the rear with two coats. After that I put the rear brake assembly together and the alxes in. Also grabbed the rear wheels to see what there gonna look like. Here are the pictures..

Ok..after many curse words and a couple busted/bruised body parts. I finally have the start of the front assembly together. Not the best of pictures but its better than nothing. I have to get the caps for the upper control arms still and get all the steering cleaned up and gather my bearings on what Im going to need to buy. In other news the Stainless tank should be here sooner than later...next up. Brake lines and mabye por-15 some stuff...more updates coming soon..

alright ladies/gentleman its been a while but money and time don't grow on trees. Late in the summer we had someone come by and take a look at my shell. Basically the guy told us to even start with that shell your looking at 25k. Well that is out of the question. So me and my dad have been eying this shell. Only problem is that is was over 5 hours away. So we saved up and made the trip this past weekend. After a 14 straight hours and many miles..here what we got.

so me and my dad rented a 6'x12' enclosed trailer from uhaul only to get there after a 5 plus hours drive and realize that the smallest opening on the trailer is 5 1/2' so there is no pulling the car on..had to lift the car in the air over the trailer and then lower it. To say it was tight was an understatement. But all in all it was worth it because now it all done.

and now I need franks help. The car I got has one of your 4 link set ups on it. The problem is my rear does not have the brackets I need. The guy I bought everything off of said that they make a bracket (in the picture to the left) that can be bolted to the leaf spring mount.The other bracket (in the picture to the right) has to be welded on to my rear. I need to know where to find that bracket and also the dimensions or some kind of guide as to where to weld those on at. Any help is greatly appreciated guys. Thanks and talk to you soon, Steven

Very nice. I have an extra set of the shock brackets that bolt to spring plate and the tabs that get welded to the housing. When I ordered my housing, it came with some brackets. PM me if you still need the brackets.

Thanks guys. Im gearing up to order undercoating and get a welder to finish what is needed. I also plan on starting to hang the rear and front subframe this weekend. Then after all that it will be preping the car and paint. Hopeing to have this all done by the start of spring. Well see..:thumbsup:

So I worked on the car this weekend. Figured out the subframe assembly and speedtech solid mounts. I also have polyurethane mounts but figured if I don't like the solid mounts I can always switch them out. The undercoating should be here tomorrow. So hopefully that will start soon. I also stripped and painted the U bolts for the rear assembly and received the brackets I need to start putting the rear together. Hopefully the assembly of that will start tomorrow night after work. Two questions for you guys.

1. How does moser know the angle that would be needed for the 4 link set up? I know they have a jig but wouldn't ever car be different?

2. I have to weld in the upper support for the dash. Anyone know where I can see some info on this..? Measurements? Ect..?

So finished test fitting the rear yesterday night to make sure everything is good in that area. The upper brackets will need to be welded to the rear but from what im told I wont be able to find that angle untill I have a motor and trans so that will have to wait for now. Im picking up the undercoating tonight and hoping to start that this weekend. Everything will be removed from the car and the whole underside, trunk and interior floor/firewall will be done. More pictures and updates to come soon. Also I think eventually Ill need some bigger wheels and tires all around. Mainly in the rear. My 17x9 w/ 275/45 are just lost in those tubs. Any one have something that will fit better for the right price..? Heres some pictures..

So been looking for a set if fenders for the car but dont want to spend too much. Found a set on craigslist for 150 and picked them up this morning and then started fitting some panels and trying to get ready for the body work. The passager side is pretty good but the drivers side needs some work and tweeking still. Trying to have the body done by the beginning of spring then we would like to focus on the mechanical aspect of things. We all know how that goes. It will get there. In the mean time we have to decide on a color. I was stuck on yellow since as long as I can remember but there just something about a black camaro that I can't seem to shake..any opinions? Untill the next time here's some pictures..

I sure like black camaros, probably the best color and I am glad that other people are willing to paint their camaro black and deal with dusting and cleaning it on a regular basis. After owning and painting a few black show cars I have a tendency to stay away from that color, very high maintenance showing every little thing. But really it is up to you, my 68 camaro was corvette yellow when I got it and actually really liked it so my vote would be for yellow.

Yes it's nice and large. Just need to figure out how to get a little heat as it can be cold up there during these winter months. Plus working on a steel body car dosnt help.

It seems like you can't lose with either yellow or black. Here's my $.02.

Initially, I had the exact same dilemna as you. Yellow or black. To me, yellow is a real cool retro/1st gen color (which fits very well into my overall theme). Also, not very many people choose yellow when restoring their 1st gen. So, its even more unique in that way. IMHO, butternut yellow is a cool color, too. Not as taxi looking either. :)

If you decide to go "black" you might want to consider what you can do with modern pearl paints. While the color of my car looks to be "green" on my build thread it actually appears much more black when seen in person. You have to look at the car in alot of sun and at the right angle for the green to dominate.

One of the guys at the shop is painting his car a combination of two black/blue pearls. One is a Mercedes code and I forget the other. But, the color is simply spectacular.

One thing that was suggested to me is to make sure I go with a two-stage paint that is coded because my car will be a daily driver. The paint will eventually have to be reproduced.

For me, color has to be one of the hardest decisions. What I do is take a camaro that is the color I am thinking and photoshop wheels and tires of my liking along with body mods. Here are a few pics of yellow camaros that I have collected over the years for you. I might have missed it, what wheel do you plan on running for the street?

Thanks for all the help/info guys. Im almost possitive that the car will be yellow. I have to stick to my guts on this. I will be running cragar s/s for right now (bought them when I was 16 and didnt know what was going on, plus it was all I could afford at the time). They are 17's all around with 8" up front 245 tire and 9" in the rear with 275 tire. I want bigger wheels like 18's in 12" in the rear with a 335 tire but the budget just dosnt match at the moment. The main things right now are bodywork/paint, motor, transmission at the moment. Theres plenty of money to be spent there atm. If I find a good deal on a set of rims and tires that I want I may just bite the bullet but for the moment the cragars will have to do. more updates coming soon.

If you were looking to keep that vintage look at go with a 18" wheel, Vintage Wheel Works just released 18" versions of the V40 and V45 (one of my favorite vintage wheels). Thanks for the link man. I really like the v48 as they are not as popular. I feel like almost every muscle car had 5 spokes... well see what the budget allows.

So I work on the car every weekend with my body guy now. Not much really to show atm. A lot of pulling off panels and putting back on, ect..ect..Two weekends ago we where still fitting things and trying to get the panels decent. My drivers side door bothers me still but its deff. better than what it was in the above pictures. We have trued the gap up good but the door to rocked is in twords the fender and flush twords the quarter. Any ideas what to do without going crazy? Everything else fits very nice and seems to be where in needs to be. So last weekend we worked on welding up everything that needs to be welded. The dash, antenna hole on the fender, front plate holes, all emblem holes on the fenders, chrome trim wheel mounting points and we finished off with some small body work. So that took up most of this past weekend. I will take some pictures to show the progess tonight and update. It feels like this stuff is taking forever. It kills me.

In other news me and my dad have been talking about our motor choice and we have decided that if we can find a low mile ls motor that makes somewhere near 550+ we will consider. We have not ruled out the lsx 454 totally but after a lot of though we realize that it is going to cost upwards of 17k easily. Were looking to be somewhere in the range of 10k or less hoepfully with out aftermarket add ons. Where thinking ls7 at the moment. If you guys have thoughts/opinions please chime in. Were not against anything at the moment..

Also as soon as my body guy can not come one weekend where looking into getting a cage put in. I only wanted a simple 4 point as I hate the idea of having to climb over a bar to get into my street car. It seems that the more places I talk to the more guys tell me that if your going to track the car you had better have at a minimum of a 6 point and even then the track will probley give you a hard time. I really dont want a 8 point but were weighing our options right now. More to come on this soon.

More sanding and bodywork..everything looks good with the exception of the drivers door to rocker gap. I'm thinking that when whomever welded up the panels something was not lined up correctly. Anyone have any suggestions on how to make that better without going to crazy..?? We started the rough body work and finished sanding the door jams, fenders jams and trunk jam..and let me tell you that's a lot of jams. Anyone have peanut butter? Haha..anyway still to be sanded are the whole firewall, under hood, and under trunk..not to bad..here are the pictures.

The next couple of weeks are going to be more body work..then in at the end of February the car will go to a local guy named lance for a 6 point cage with a removable side bar. They will also be finishing up the welding of my rear and welding in dse subframe connectors which have to be bought still. More updates coming soon..

I cannot see the entire extent of your problem with the door gap at the bottom where it meets the rocker. If the back of the door gap to quarter looks good and the fender aligns in the front then one of the ways to fix this is to weld rod to the bottom of the door. I have had to do this to a few first gen camaros, most have either to large of a gap or the gap tappers. Probably not what you wanted to hear but one solution to the problem.

Sorry I didnt take more pictures. Thats what I was thinking and was affraid of. You have it correct. The Door to quarter gap is great and the fender to door gap is good at the top and pinches twords the bottom of the fender. The fender is an aftermarket though. I feel that the door is high at the fender though also, because when you shut the door it grazes the trim on the a pillar twords the front of the car. Ill have to get a picture this weekend. When I have the cage done I will probley have the guy do some work to that area as I want it to be better than it is currently. I will also have him fix the drivers fender lower also as it need some metal work to be right. Ill grab some more pictures and post them up when I get over the the car next. Are you worried at all about getting body cracks where you blended the quarters to the Tail Panel? It looks good, but I thought this line was left to allow for body flex between the panels. I'm possibly overthinking this, but thought I would ask.

To be honest I never even thought about that. The guy that we bought the car off of had braised the panels long ago and he filled most of the seam with it. It looked bad so I talked to my body guy and he said well be well within the body filler amount tolerance that it should be fine. I guess time will tell.

Last night I worked on some more sanding. Mainly the firewall. I have to figure out which holes are for what. Whatever is not needed I would like to close up before any paint work begins. I also got some picture of the drivers door to get some more opinions on what needs to be done to correct it..

There's not much more to do until it gets primed now which needs to be in a booth. We have to seam seal some stuff and in 2-3 weeks the car goes in to get the cage and welding stuff wrapped up..then to the booth for 3 coats of primer then block the whole car again and cut the jambs in..then paint hopefully. Still have to buy an anvil rear spoiler and front valance...more updates coming soon..

After seeing the pictures of the door/rocker panel/quarter panel gap it appears that the front of the door is too high. It looks like it is a little to close to the pillar. You are going to have to weld rod to some part of the door. If you drop the front part of the door down it will open up the door to quarter panel gap, which is pretty much what happened on one of our cars. The aftermarket quarter panels don't always fit to the back part of the door especially the top part. Instead of welding rod to the bottom you might have to weld the rod to the door edge and work that. You will have to take a look at how the body lines are transitioning between panels and let me know what you think. This stuff is pretty common once you start cutting and putting aftermarket panels on, but really, the origianl panels never fit all that great. A good friend of mine has an all original never been repainted 25K mile 1968 camaro that I go over and look at and measure gaps, they are not pretty. Patience is your best tool, used often.

Well the car went to get the cage done today. I got some bad news from the builder lance. He is going to put the cage in, build and weld in sub frame connectors, and finish welding the rear end brackets to complete the air ride set up. We also talked about him welding the bottom of the door to correct that gap. He looked at both doors and told me that they have to be fitted again and some metal is going to be added/filed. He then showed me his 67 and how it should look. Basically the doors need sone work. But at this time he's finishing up some big projects and can handle that kind of work. So he's going to do what we have planed and then let me know when I can bring the car back for the other work. All welding work has to be done before final body work. More updates coming soon as I hopefully will be going there to help our with the work as I'm eager to learn.

Just read the thread, great build, love the make shift transport with the u haul trailer to get to destination. I also have another project thats been collecting way to much dust for 3 years that me and me son (15 as of this week) that we will begin to tackle again, Props to you and your dad for being "close knit"

s+p adapter plates
stainless works headers
oil pan from prodigy
fast lsxr 102 intake
fast fuel rails
ported ls7 throttle body or 92mm fast
gm front accessories
gm stock ecu and wiring
still have to research injectors

Im sure they will be more..but thats the plan so far.:thumbsup:

Found a used c6 set up on lateral-g and luckly jumped on it first, being as they are on backorder and pretty pricey from gm. Well I recieved that yesterday and my dad came over to help put it all together. Its a gm kit and it went on very nicely. In other news we ordered motor mounts and the adapter plates from frank so they should be here soon and we ordered poly mounts from summit and they will be here by friday. If all goes as planned I hope to mock up the motor on the frame to see what kind of clearance we have for the oil pan. Here is some quick pictures from last night.

So got the motor mounts and adapter plates last night from Frank over at prodigy. Big Thanks to him and their team for dealing with me:thumbsup: The old man came over and we mocked everything up to see what where dealing with. Im going to take it apart again and have the mounts painted nice and finished with stainless hardware when it goes in for the final time. Starting to look like a car more and more as we go...I cant wait to start this thing for the first time. Next up is the oil pan and headers, then intake, tb..ect..onto the pictures.

I got polyurethane mounts from summit and they come with a piece they say to install. When we mocked it up is didnt seem to fit. I left it out for now. Any input on if this plate needs to be installed??

I never used those pre-load plates either with my S&P mounts. Same problem. But I also trashed two sets of the poly mounts. Not sure why. Changed to solid this year.

When we where putting the motor mounts onto the actual frame the one way they hang over the edge, but the other way they sit on the frame touching it all the way. Seeing the way it hung over the edge I said it cant be that way. My dad though it was. We put it the way I thought and he emailed me today saying he was right...see the picture below. Can someone confirm which way they sit? Does it matter?

So I didnt get over to work on the car as much as I wanted to this weekend. My dog has been pretty sick but she seems to be doing a lot better. I did get the oil pan installed but no painting, maybe next weekend. I looked over the internet for tourqe specs on the pan and pickup and came up with the following on top of the pictures. if any of this sounds wrong please let me know.

I torqued the bolts that hold the pickup mounts on the deflector pan to 28 lb-ft

Nice project, I really like the motor. Please let us know how the oil pan looks in the car. If it hangs down below the frame crossmember. I have been waiting to see one installed. Is the overall height of the pan at the drain plug 5.75"?

I will grab some pictures. I might mess with trying to put it in for a dry fit tonight if I can find some time. I would say that the overall is right around 5.75"

So the guy that I bought the shell from had told me he painted the underside in eastwood black. I have used por-15 on the frame and loved the results. I wanted to redo the underside since the subframe connectors where welded in and there was some flash rust. So instead of doing a sub-par job and just doing the actual connectors and part of the floor pan I decided to do the whole underside. Well not wanting to buy a rotisserie I had to figure out how to get under there without being on my back and getting all the cleaners and por-15 in my face. With some help from my brother in law here is what he came up with. Big thanks to him and my little brother for all the help. It was definitely a lot of work. Ill let the pictures tell the rest.

Yep. Thats the truth. Im always trying to make things easier. Not much of an update this weekend. When me and my brother where painting the underbody I noticied that there was some pin holes that needed to be sealed up and all around the frame connectors needed to be sealed up also. That being said I got some seam sealer and did that this weekend. My younger brother bought his 70 chevelle over also to do some little stuff, oil change, belts, bulbs..ect. So i spent most of my day helping him. We also put my wheels on his car just for fun. Heres some picture of it. Next up is putting the undercoating on and I still have to por15 the whole inside.

Have not had much of an update due to a very close friend of mine passing away last Friday. Me and him always worked on our cars together and shared a love of automobiles and life. He will be greatly missed forever.

I now cherish the time with my friends and family that much more. My good friend came over last night to just hang out, talk about old times and do another dry fit of the motor now that the engine mounts are positioned correct and the oil pan is on. I’ve had some people asking about the fit of the mast pan. It sits perfect. Tons of clearance around the steering components and frame. The pan is just about equal to the sub frame also in depth. Thanks man. it has changed my outlook on life and made me realized how much of a blessing every day is, bad or good.

So the old man came by on friday night and we went at it to do the undercoating. Overall pretty easy and simple to apply. Came out really nice. This stuff is so hard to photograph though. Looks blotchy but in person it looks awsome. On saturday I was looking at the rear before I put it back in and I didnt like the way the links where grey so I went at them also with the undercoating also. When my dad and buddy chris where over on friday night and we where looking at the manifold they both said it looks out of place and that it would look better black. I thought about it but wanted to really think about it. Well my brother came over on saturday to give me a hand and saw the manifold also. He said the same thing. I knew what I had to do. In more news I was talking to my dad about the inside and he said do you plan to drive the car in the rain. I said no not unless I get stuck. he then said why are you going to go craxy on the inside? The inside is already epoxed? Im guessing I have to rethink this. Opinions?

So not to much car stuff really going on. My son was born on the 12th of this month so all my time has been dedicated to him. I did however buy brake lines and a set another set of doors off this guy for 50 dollars before his birth. On the passanger side door the whole bottom is split but the driver was in really good shape overall. I dont have a before picture but I let me body guy take the door and sand blast the whole thing, weld up the small rust spots and fit the door overall, then epoxy prime it. He brought me the door back last night and im amazed by the work he did. I also bought a gallon of expoy primer to do the whole car before winter as I dont know when it will actually be getting painted. More updates to come soon. We will be fitting the fenders for final fitment and fitting the passanger side door, getting all the gaps tight and uniform. Then primer the whole car, and hopefully running all the brake stuff. Heres a couple of pictures..

Thanks everyone. Mom and son are doing great. I swear every time I pick up the car seat I think my wife is feeding him lead. Hes growing fast and is a pretty big boy.

I worked on the car some over the weekend. My buddy Timmy got a welder and we decided to try to tackle getting the doors right and setting the cheap fenders in place and getting the gaps good. Overall everything went well and the next time he comes over were going to epoxy primer the whole car. There is still some small tweeks to be done, but overall I am satisfied. I think the gaps are good if not better than most cars I see at my weekly car show but please be honest as I want it right and am willing to go back and redo it. :thumbsup:

Nice tool box.

In the first picture, the trailing edge of the drivers door looks tight. Maybe its just the lighting or the color differences between panels? Just make sure you account for paint and primer buildup. It takes more space than you might think. But overall the car looks good.

Looking at the pictures I see what your saying. Its crazy how a picture can tell a whole different story then in person. Being that my buddy is a painter he has takin into account for the amount of space needed for paint. I think its just the color difference. But I will take a look later tonight to make sure. But overall you think the gaps look decent? Thanks for the input.:thumbsup:

I'm quite jealous of your project. My dad has never really been into cars and surely didn't pass the love on to me; not until about 1998 did I really get into cars. He helped me out with a few changes to my '90s Caprices but there was no shop (gravel driveway or sloped street only), no array of tools and definitely no money to pull off anything like you're doing here with your dad. Hopefully while mine's still around I will be able to get a project started with him.

Like you said, they look better than most at the local cruise in near me too.
The most common mistakes I see at the local thing is the gaps being inconsistent. There may be 1/8" to 3/16" DIFFERENCE in gaps on the same car. Like they just bolted a panel on an painted it. I looked at a 67 Mustang coupe last saturday that had 1/2" gaps on the pass side and 1/8" on the drivers side. It looked like the pass door was too short.
But they painted it like that anyway.

Yep. Thats the same with all the cars I see too. My gaps are no where near tight and super clean but they all seem to be consistant. That is all we are aiming for. The car will be drove to and from shows/events and wont see a trailer unless shes really hurt. :)

Ok so since the birth of my son I relized that the car will be taking somewhat of a back seat for awhile as I get life back in order. I am by no means stoping my project. I have acepted a slower pace is all. With that being said I relized that the car would not be painted any time soon and small surface rust was starting. I talked to Timmy and he said we should just epoxy primer the whole car so it will be protected. So thats what we did this weekend. Overall pretty easy and I know its not really a step forward but its really nice and is a great motivation to see the car in one color, plus is shows any small dents we missed and really shows the gaps pretty well. There is still some small gap work to be done but overall they are pretty close.

After we primed the whole car I looked at him it was around 1:30, the kid was sleeping and I wanted to get as much done as possible. I said you wanna put the fender extensions on and see if we can get the fender wells to fit...he agreed and we tackled that stuff next... onto the pictures.

In other news I bought a set of barely used steering set up(tierods, center link, pitman arm, idle arm), steeing box 12.7 :1 w/ all lines, and steering colum w/ rag joint for 200. I though it was a really good deal and all the stuff has less than 500 miles on it. Ill be getting that stuff today so that will be soon.

Got to the car for a few hours this weekend when the boy was sleeping. I bought a oem standard grill, all aluminum trim, lights, turn signals w/ trim and lower valance for 150 which I thought it was a really good deal. It needs to be cleaned up still and im still looking into how I can remove some dents in the trim but the headlight trim and lower trim are in really nice shape. Better than drive quality I would say. I don't ever do any before pictures so I though it would be nice to have some so I can see how much better it looks once restored.

In other news I did a dry fit on the steering stuff I bought. I'm missing some bolts and am still trying to track down the correct sizes/threads ect..if any one has any of this info and would like to share where to get this stuff/correct size I would be thankful. I need the slotted nut that connects the center link to the pitman arm (I think its a 1/2-20 slotted nut) and I need the bolt and nut that connects the rag joint to the steering box (I think its 3/8 bolt about 1.5" in length) Onto the pictures..

Ok so its been a bit of time. Ive lost a lot of my free time due to my son, the holidays..But im ok with that. Im sure you all know how that goes. I do what I can when I can. With that being said I did get some wonder gifts for x-mass this year. My wife and parents always treat me well. My wife got me the the fast fuel rails and my parents gave me money for my tires..still looking for them atm.. I want 335/30/18 for the rear and something like 225-245/40/18 for the front. Just waiting to find a set that matches all the way around or a good deal to pop up. In other news I treated myself to a x-mass gift and bought a nick williams 102mm tb.. all polished also. I pulled the rear as I need to have it narrowed to fit the 18x12. Just need to buy the rear tires first to get a good measurment before decide how much needs to come off. The best price so far for the narrowing is 300 and the guy is going to cut the old perchs off and weld on the ridetech ones.

I also had timmy take the lower valance, grill trim and lower carbon spoiler and clean them up.. He did an awesome job again and Im a very picky person. He took all the dents out of it, welded the holes shut, straigthened the lower valance, primed it and assembled it all. He also cleaned up the trim and game it a brushed look. Im not sure what im doing with it yet, either keeping the brushed look or going to have it painted a satin black with a small edge polished through. Time will tell. Since he did such a nice job I gave him the rest of the window trim and tail lights to work on..Im sure ill be amazed again.. ok enough talk onto the pictures..

Not too much going on atm. Ridetech was selling tires so I bought a used set or bfgoodrich KDW for a killer deal. 335/30/18 for the rears and 235/40/18 for the fronts. Going to try to get the rear wheels/tires mounted this Saturday, then get a good measurement for the width of the rear. In other news a good deal came up for a set of dynatech headers so I bought them. A good friend of mine came over and gave me a hand on getting the headers mocked up to see how they sit. Overall for the price I'm very impressed. The clear the steering box with ease. The one tube is slightly touching the mount, but that's nothing a little grinding won't fix. Got over to the car this weekend for a bit and got my rear tires mounted so I could get a measurment for the rear. I came up with 55 1/2 from wheel to wheel. I have to subtract out the other stuff also. Does this seem correct to you guys? The wheels are 18x12 w/ 5.75 of backspacing or -19 offset. Im guessing my final rear width will be somewhere around 54 1/2....sound right? Here are some pictures as no one likes reading..

In others news Im hoping to drop the rear off this week/weekend to get it narrowed..
Also have been doing some research on other parts that are needed like injectors and was thinking 50-60 lbs would be enough. For the radiator I was looking at the entropy unit as the price is fair and Ive read great things about the quality of the unit. Also getting close to buying the t-55 magnum...hoping me and the old man can start the beast by spring..time/money will tell.

So me and my dad have been saving up to buy the transmission and as many of you know its very expensive. I recieved and email from a guy named Vance on wednesday night saying he had a brand new t56 magnum and he was looking to sell. We talked and struck a deal and the transmission is on the way. I also bought a complete set of autometer gauges off of him. All I can say is what a pleasure it has been doing business with him and thank you VERY much for the great deal man. Pictures and install pictures will be up soon enough..here some teaser pictures for now...

A lot going on lately. Going in a thousand directions it seems like so ill try to write all my notes in here to keep things in order/give updates.

Transmission:
I order all my parts needed from american powertrain. All I can say is that if you are looking for anything transmission or transmission related they are the place to go to. Those guys over there have seriously bent over backwards to get me my stuff and keep me happy. Josh your the man. I recieved all my parts from them on wednesday and was waiting on the bellhousing to come on thursday. Somewhere along the line my crossmember ripped through the box and was not there when I opened the boxes. I was also upset that the instructions and the white lightening shifter was not in the boxes. I decided to call their 24-hour hotline as it was after business hours. John the person I have been dealing with answers so I am pretty upset at this point being that I was excited to intall this stuff. He emailed me a copy of the instuctions while I was on the phone..and tells me he will send out a crossmember and my shifter tommorrow for 1 day delivery at no additional cost to me. Talk about service. Then last night I had some questions about the install and I called him. He was on the phone with me for over 20 minutes taking me through the steps. I can not even begin to tell you how helpful he is when it comes to this stuff. He truely has put the customer first in every single way. Big thanks to him and the guys over there. It has been my pleasure. Heres is there contact info.. 931-646-4836 x107. With Josh's help I installed the flywheel, pilot bearing, clutch, pressure plate and bellhousing last night. My dad and I will be wrapping up the rest of the install on this weekend so more to come.

Fuel System:
I posted a thread about running the lines and such. I got a lot of reponses about the vaporworx system so I started digging and after talking with my dad we are going to go that route. Hector over at ricks tank has agreed to take back my old tank and for an additional cost provide me with a vaporworx setup tank w/ cadillac cts-v pump..ect. Again another company going above and beyond to make the customer happy. Big thanks to Hector. Im glad its all going to work out. Now that we have this all figured out we can start buying the stuff needed for the fuel system. I placed an order for 25' of an-6 line at aeroquip.cc so that will be coming soon. Still need to order all the fitting and fuel filter. I will also need to order the flowworx control system from carl so that will be done soon. That should just about wrap up the fuel system

Interior Wiring:
I called Mike over at Musclerodz and ordered the AAW classic update kit for the camaro. Its on back order but will ship once back in stock. So thats going to be up next once it comes in. Seem to be a very nice complete kit from all Ive read.

12 Bolt Moser Rear:
I got sick of dealing with all these local guys not calling me back, not sure on price, can do the axles... So I figured why not send it back to moser to get narrowed and have the lower leaf prechs cut off and have them weld on the prodigy lower shock mount. Well its going to cost around 600 total but I know it will be done right and they are very good communication wise. So that is being worked on and I should have it back sooner than later.

Battery/Power wiring:
Again more reading and nothing ordered yet but im thinking Im going to go with 1/0 for the main power wire. I know I want to run a cutoff and the ford selonid. Still reading and learning on this to make sure its done right before the trigger is pulled on buying stuff.

Engine wiring/ecu
Spoke to Jon over at PSI conversion. Another great guy to talk to, super quick response to email, phone..ect. Going to be about 1200 for everything that is needed from him. ECU, all wiring, O2 sensors, dbw pedal, and Maf. Looking to order this whole setup within the next month.

So it has been a long last couple of days. Many hours spent cursing, laughing, reading directions, and on the phone with Josh and Gray at American powertrain. Can’t say enough about them and the after hour hotline. Has been a huge help for me all around. Both those guys are A++++. So we received the shim for the hydromax clutch assembly and the narrowed rear/axels from Moser on Tuesday. Got over there after work to put the transmission together and also assemble the rear so that is can be a roller again. Starting on the rear and realize that the axle seals are not there...stopped that for the night.

Ok..on to the transmission. Excited to finally put it all together. Measure for the shims again..and throw the shims on and bolt it all together, place it in the car. Talked to Gray and figured out the crossmember, realized that we are missing the offset plate. He tells me he will over night it tomorrow for delivery on Thursday. Later Wednesday morning I wake up at 3:30 to give the baby his binky and I remembered that we didnt put the feed line on the clutch assembly. Well that sucks..it has to come back apart. So back over there after work on Wednesday... my dad already started pulling it all out. We finish getting it out. Take it apart, install the feed line, back together, in the car. Not to bad all things considered.

Next onto the rear. I had my wonderful wife who has not seen me to much recently go over to the auto parts store while I was at work and pick me up a new 12 bolt gasket, some hi-temp sealer, and two big ford end axle seals. Thanks babe. After the transmission was back in for the second time, me and my brother started on the rear. Not too bad..axles in, brakes on, cover on. Place her in and bolt it all up. Still need to tighten down all the bolts for the links but other than that it’s done back there.

Some where in-between all of that I got my stock cluster pulled apart and semi-mounted my speedo and tach in the housing. I’m going to give it all to Timmy this week so he can finish it up nice with some repairs to the cracked areas and give it a nice coat of black paint..here is some pictures.

In other news.. I sent back my old tank to ricks so the new tank should be coming soon. Carl is sending the controller over, that should be here today. The gauges I bought where all electrical other than the speedo and oil pressure. I didn’t want to run an oil line into the car so on Sunday I bought a electrical oil pressure gauge to match my others. I want to run this to the back of the stock port behind the intake. I made sure I bought the adapter also. Did a dry fit late last night to realize that I need some sort of 45 or 90 degree fitting as the autometer sensor is huge and hits the intake. So that has to be figured out. The fuel line and fittings have also been ordered now that the tank situation is final, so they will be coming soon. The interior wiring harness is on back order from AAW and should be going out sometime early next week, this is next of big things to do on the list. More to come soon...Still need to order:

55-60lbs fast injectors
Radiator/fan set up/hoses
Engine wiring/sensor - PSI
Battery
Battery tray/wiring/solenoid/kill switch

Thanks man..its so nice to work with all new parts and finally get to the good stuff.

Found some time this weekend to try to wrap up things as I’m waiting on the fuel tank, lines, fitting and interior wiring harness. The steering links needed to be torqued and have cotter pins put in, got that all done. Some of the steering column to floor hardware needs to be ordered which will happen sooner than later. I also took the column out and scuffed it and gave it some black paint. When I bought the front accessory kit from the forums the guy sent me the power steering hoses also. I had forgotten about them until I was looking for my coil packs. I looked at them and realized that the correct fitting have already been put on...bonus!! So I was pretty stoked about that as its one less thing to worry about. That should just about wrap up the steering part of the car.

I also did a mock up for the wires and coils. I’m thinking I’m going to put the coils inside the cabin or mount them on the sub frame. I just have to figure out how to run them under the headers and have them look neat and not make contact. I think it shouldn't be too hard. Another cool surprise was that with the dynatech headers I’ve done a lot of reading stating that you need to run flexible msd wire ends for the 7 & 5 cylinders as the headers is bent up to clear the steering box. I order 2 sets of msd boots from jegs on Friday. Well while mocking up the wires I noticed that the ends of the taylor wires had msd ends on them..not putting one and two together I was adjusting a wire and pushed on the boot end. Well it bent to a 90 and stayed...sweet I already have what I need...another bonus.

I ordered a couple of items of Friday from jegs that where needed. My order consits of: (2) set of msd wire ends which I don’t think I need now, apr header bolts, an braided extender for the oil pressure gauge, a shifter boot and trim to finish up around the shifter, and for the (5) - 2 1/16" gauges I was having a hard time finding something to house that many and not look bad. Most companies only make a 2-3 pod to mount to the underside of the dash. I didn’t want to run a 2 and a 3 so I was looking for other options... Whie searching I came across a 5 pod angled piece made by autometer for a jeep that im guessing Ill have to modify some but I think it should work so I ordered that also. That shipment should be here early this week.

Being that I had been looking at the motor for almost a year with blue tape on it I figured that the motor and transmission are in for now why not finally uncover those valve covers and put the intake on for a final fitment, hopefully. So that is what I did. I also got a couple pictures of the rear end complete other than tightening everything. Timmy cleaned up and painted the tail tight covers, might have them done in all black as I'm not too sure about the silver we’ll see. Grabbed some shots of the shifter position too as I have had people asking. It’s the white lightening from American powertrain, really a quality piece with a ton of adjustment. Onto the pictures...

Nope. None at all. Slid right in place and I believe there is even some room to spare in there.

Got over to the car with my brother on Wednesday night for a bit. Put the starter in and torqued the bolts to 37ft-lbs. Also plumbed the extension for the oil pressure gauge so that the huge sender is located inside the cabin now. Received the jeep 5 pod gauge cluster so did a quick mock up of the smaller gauges. Should work out fine but it will have to be modified some. My brother installed the shifter boot and trim, probably should have went with a taller boot to cover up the bolts and such but I’m not too worried about it at the moment. We mocked up the fuel rails and we both agreed that the red sticks out. That will be changed later. I still have to figure out what way the spark plug wires are going to run. Locate the coils in the front of the headers or mount them near the firewall. Either way I know I need high temp sleeves so I ordered them off of eBay for 30 bucks.

Being that the gauges where such a good deal I had to buy them, from past experience with standard lighting in autometer gauges I would never purchase a non-led gauge..the lighting at night is horrible. With that said I've been doing some digging on led lights for them. Well autometer charges 10/bulb. I need like 11 bulbs...that isn’t happening. So I found some led bulbs that should work on eBay for 13 shipped for 10. They have been ordered. My next problem with the gauges is that the water housing has been tapped for a temp sensor by the previous owner. I didn’t think about this up until I went to put the sensor in. Well it does not fit. So after talking to my brother we decided the best thing was to tap the hole a little bigger and put an adapter in. The problem is that the smallest adapter that we can find that works is 1/2 -18. The standard sizes for a 1/2 are course at 13 and fine at 20. So a special tap has been ordered for the task.

I ordered the steering column seals and boot today so they will be here next week. That should wrap up the steering install. The only thing that needs to be done still is clean up the split plate that mounts to the firewall but that will be this weekend.

In other news the engine harness, maf, ecu, O2 sensors, dbw pedal..ect had been ordered through PSI conversion. Was told it should be here around early next week. The interior wiring from AAW should be here next week, and the ricks stainless tank also. The fuel line and all the AN fittings are due to come today. So if there is time that will be started this weekend. Here are some pictures because no one likes reading..

In other news my interior wiring harness should be here tomorrow so thats next on the list. The engine harness should be here late this week, early next week as Jon is wating on my ecu still.

I got over to the car this weekend and made the crossover line for the fuel rails. Went a lot easier than I had thought. I also ran the fuel line to the rear of the car so when my tank comes in I can slap it in and finish the last line. Then on sunday I went to ace hardware and picked up and angle finder to figure out want my driveline needs to be at and try to set it. Heres what I came up with:

First reading on the tranny was around 84-85.
Then measured the rear which was around 90-91.
Ok.. so from what Ive read in the past I need to be around no more than 3 degrees for the U-joints to be happy. I'm off 3-4 degrees in total. So I went to the rear and adjusted the lower links by screwing them in some. Remeasured and came up with around 86-87. So Im around a difference of 2 degrees. Does this seem ok to all you driveline guys? I will be measuring and ordering my driveshaft this week now that thats done, or so I hope. Here some picture of the angles..

Feels like I’ve been working on the car a ton but not to much is actually done. Received the vaporworx tank from Rick yesterday so we tried to wrap the fuel system up. The fuel lines are pretty much wrapped up. Made a cross-over line for the fuel rails and ran the main line under the car on the inside of the frame rails and attached it with 1/2" rubber wrapped clamps. Came out ok but where the floor meets the subframe connector the fuel line looks to be the lowest point. I’m either going to make a small channel for the line to fit into or move the line to in-between the frame rail and pinch weld. How is everyone running their lines? Also made another small line to attach to the tank and hold the fitting for the pressure sensor. All that is left is the AN fitting that connects the AN line to the actual tank pump, should be here sooner than later.

In other news we've been working on the wiring of the car. This is going to take some time and it has to be routed very neat, so were going slow. Got the main fuse box and rear harness pretty much worked out.

We received the hightemp boots for the plug wires as they are very close to the headers in many spots. So I did a dry fit on them. Still need to figure out where the coils will be located. In front of the motor on the subframe or in/under the firewall behind the motor. Neither way is going to be easy but I'd like a clean installation. Any suggestions?

Also we installed the water sensor on the water pump housing as there was already a hole in it from the previous owner so that is done. Other than the injectors, coil location, and headers to be tightened the engine is done.

The engine wiring should be here late this week or early next week. So that will be soon. Here are some quick pictures..

Not to much done this weekend but managed to get to the car some while the boy was sleeping. The fuel line was bothering me. I had ran it inside of the frame rail but near the low point of the floor pan the line was actually the lowest point on the car. Being that I plan on driving it and having it lower than it is I knew I had to redo it..he's some pictures..

In regards to you driveline angle. If you are using factory driveline angles and it looks like you are,you need to be concerned with your WORKING angles. The DIFFERENCE in your driveline/pinion angle and your driveshaft angle. So, if your driveline angle is 4 degrees DOWN and your driveshaft slopes down 1 degree, your working angle is 4-1=3. If your driveshaft slopes up 1 degree. It's 4+1=5. Your pinion angle is the same concept. When you tallked about the magic 3 degrees, it's working anlges, not the difference between your driveline and pinion angle.

hmmm..good explanation. Im guessing that the driveline angles can not be measured untill the drive shaft is installed correct? I just dont want to order the drive shaft and come to realize after the fact that I did something wrong and need it shortened / lengthened some. Thanks for the help. :thumbsup:

Received the engine harness from PSI Conversion. John has been great to work with, answers the phone almost every time and if he doesn’t he calls me back asap. He has been a pleasure to work with so far. My ECU and one O2 sensor is on back ordered but I can still move forward with the wiring. I got over to the car for a couple hours on Monday night. Mocked up the wiring just to get a feel for where it all needs to lay, run before I make anything permanent. I’m mounting the ECU near the glove box area so Ill probably run the main harness through the firewall around the trans tunnel/around the bell area. Trying to keep it away from the headers as much as I can.

I also mocked up the front seat to see how it fit with the roll cage, shifter. I plan on buying two front covers from corbeau in the near future. Will go with black leather as the black cloth holds everything it touches, plus there’s a small rip on the cover from when I had it in my STi.

In other news some buying has been done. Ordered a full relay, solenoid kit from Mark at Mad Electrical. He is a great guy that knows too much. Have read great things about his kit and am glad to hopefully have the battery/power set up bought and worked out. I also bought some "used" injectors off a member that are brand new in the box. They are Fast 57lb #30572 injectors and should fit my application nicely. Also orders a yellow top optima battery, billet specialties hold down tray, some ground straps, 1 gauge 20' of power and 3' of ground cable, and two through panel connectors. That should wrap up the battery/power system and fuel system. Still working on the wiring atm..

Not to much of an update to show. Been working on the AAW kit and making headway. The main harness, rear harness, main cluster, and courtesy harness is pretty much wrapped up now. Me and the old man mocked up the front end to start on the wiring on the front end next. Putting the grill trim on I know I don't want it all silver..doesn't look right to me. It will be painted some sort of black sooner than later.

In other news the ecu and the rest of the PSI sensor are in so that still on the list. I'm having a hard time figuring out where to run the spark plug wires. I wanted them tucked close to the block and mount the coils in the rear or low on the frame in the front but the wires seem to touch the headers too much even with the boots. The cleanest safest solution I've come up with is to mount the coils behind the wheel wells in between the fender and firewall. I have a picture just have to find it. Im just not crazy about how it will look. What are other guys doing for this problem? I've seen some really nice clean cars but no write up or info on this..any suggestions are appreciated.

Not much to update with lately. Still sorting through the wiring portion little by little. Rather take the time and make sure its correct then rush through it all. In other news the upper and lower rad hoses have been ordered. Still have to order the radiator & fans, should take about a week to make it and with shipping another week at most. Im going with the entropy unit for an ls swap and will be getting the larger 1.25" tubes as opposed to the standard 1" that they offer. I've read some great reviews on their product so Im excited for that, should be sooner than later.

Timmy was over this past weekend and we talked about the gauges and both agreed that a custom set up would fit the car better. We also talked about the main gauge cluster that will hold the speedo & tach. He said he could whip that old plastic housing into shape. Here are some of the pictures he has sent me. Thanks for all the kind words guys. Wiring is not my strong suit and sometimes I step back and look and become overwhelmed at the wiring as a whole. Me and the old man have been tackling it one piece at a time, man it is a lot. I just keep thinking of the time Ill finally get to turn the key.. Last weekend me and the old man got my brother and 3 other guys to come over to really tackle this thing. The good news is that the front headlight harness, the vaporworx harness (w/ the exception of the power feed wire), and the engine/ecu wiring is done (w/ the exception of the 6-7 leads inside, power to the fuel pump, alternator power wire, and a couple sensor that need to be addressed). What is left is what was mentioned above, the Mad electrical stuff, and the AAW engine side of the firewall, finish the battery hook up, wiring to the starter, and finish some dash wiring. So still plenty left..but we are getting there. I’m trying to do it once the correct way instead of rushing and having to go back.

In other news Timmy is making progress on the gauge cluster and has to come back over for one last fit before he can put his final touches on it. It’s coming out great and I'm glad this is the route that we went. I got 4 small led lights from classic dash to have them wired into the stock dash cluster for turn signals, high beams, and brakes or check engine light so that will be soon. Now that the fuel stuff is all wired I plan on having Timmy also make a small panel to hold the pump, fuse..ect. It will be located right near the battery.

So last night I took off from working on the car to spend some time with the family. I brought home a little clean project to work on while watching TV before bed. I’m still figuring out how I want the coils /spark plug wires to run. Id really like them to run under the headers and mount the coils to the frame in front of the motor out of sight. With that being said I know that heat is going to be the biggest problem. I bought some DEI heat shield for the wires that is rated to 500 degrees. I also have the end boots that are rated to over 1200 degrees. Between the two I think they should be fine... So I took apart the wires and ran the DEI sleeves over each one. Got over to the car this weekend for a bit while the baby was napping. Still plugging away at the wiring. Not to much left really. Have to finish the wiring for the tach and water gauge , the 6-7 wires for the ecu, run the power for the fuel pump, put in two more main grounds, wire up the radiator/fans, run a power from the alternator to the main power connection, and run a power for the interior wiring to the main power connection. Actually looking at it wrote out it is enough. Soon enough. Mike and I ran the main power block to the drivers fender so I can get to it but it's out of the way enough that there should be no problems with anything else coming in contact with it. Extended the main power wire for the ecu to that and put the fuseable links in, also finished running the main power wire from the battery to it. Today I had some time so I drilled a hole in the floorboard for the pass thru connector. Mounted that and cut the main 1 gauge to size and finished crimping the ends. Also made the main wire to go from the connector on the engine bay side to the starter. In other news the radiator has been ordered and should be here soon. Also ordered a maf sensor so that should wrap up the ecu potion of wiring.

On Saturday the brake lines came in from inline tube. Seems like a really nice kit. Ordered all stainless and when I opened it I was scratching my head a bit as there was 8 lines. I though there was 7 lines for the brakes. Two smalll lines off the master to a distribution block right under the master cylinder. From the distribution block three lines come off that, one to the front right, one to the front left, and one long one to the rear that stops right before the rear axles which goes to a soft line. From the soft line to a "T" mounted on the rear axle which connects to a rear left and rear right line. 7 total. Anyone wanna guide me or tell me what I'm missing? Onto the pictures...

So it’s been a long couple of nights. I ordered and received the map sensor for the motor to complete the engine side of the wiring other than the coil packs. The port on the sensor was to big so I had to drill the hole on the intake to 15/32 and it fits good now. Just have to extend the wiring for the plug.

The brake lines have showed up from inline and I needed a couple more fittings so I’m waiting on the "T" that goes on the rear axle and the hold down clips for the frame. Then I will run the lines and bleed the system. Also waiting on the radiator to show up which should be soon. To complete the motor side of things I've started to piece together the intake with what I'll need and that will be ordered soon. Other than that just have to figure out what I’m going to do for exhaust. I really wanted to have side pipes, 3" ovals is what I was thinking but due to lack of room, expense I may just run dumps before the rear. We’ll see.

The main power source on the drivers firewall is complete. All main power wires have been ran and tightened. I need to finish up the gauge wiring, couple wires on the ecu, run relays for the headlights & fans when they get here and some miscellaneous stuff and that should be the rest of the wiring. I’ll be glad when that day is. Not too much longer before the car actually is able to fire.

Timmy came over last night as I really wanted to try to crank the car and check for leaks and make sure I had oil pressure. The main thing that still needed to be done was the main ground straps needed to be hooked up. One for each side of the frame to body, and one from the engine to frame, one in the rear for the main battery hook up, and a small one under the dash for ecu, gauges..ect. Instead of drilling and using bolts on everything I had him bring the welder and he welded the bolts right to the body/frame. This way there is one less thing to come loose and it’s a much better connection. While he did that I finished up the wiring for the starter and did the temporary wiring for the oil pressure gauge to see what was going on. After all the grounds where hooked up we gave it a go and everything went well, other than a small oil leak at the adapter that screws into the intake. I need to take it off clean it off and put some teflon tape on any pipe treads. It was a relief to finally here it turn over and confirm that the wiring so far is correct. Now it’s time to get the rest of the stuff buttoned up so I can actually fire it. Once I fire it up Ill only let it run for 30-60 seconds as it has to be broken in. I talked to my chevy dealership that I bought the motor off of and he said if I take the car to a certified mechanic and have them go over it and break the motor in I can gain back all the warranty that I have lost while the motor was sitting. So that’s what I'm going to do. I talked to a shop called Injection connection and they are going to go over the whole car once complete, break the motor in per the GM instructions, change the oil and strap her to the dyno. I want to start the car to check for leaks, make sure everything is working so I’m not paying shop rate because I have a leak in a fuel line..ect. Nice :thumbsup: Are you going to have a junction block to hook the battery positive terminal, starter and the alternator hot wire? if so could you please post a photo of it where it is going to be mounted?

The reason why I am asking is that I have the battery mounted in the trunk like yours and there is a junction block mounted on the passenger side fender well.

Yep. The main junction block that has constant power is located and mounted in the drivers fender area to the right of the pass-thru connector for the fuse panel. My main feed wire is 8 gauge and has a fuseable link connected to the selonid located in my trunk very close to the battery. The power wires that are ran to that main junction block go like this from back --->front in this order.

Main power wire - 8 gauge
Alternator wire - 8 gauge
Main fusebox power/interior pwr - 8/10 gauge cant remember what AAW ran
Main Ecu power - 2 leads

That pretty much covers the whole car. All my other powers will come off this block in some way. Hope that helps. Here are some pictures to show you.

I ordered the last piece that I can think of to wrap the motor up. Radiator and all the pieces for the intake. All that should be here early next week. Then just have to finish some small wiring, mount the ecu, wrap up the gauges, either extend the coil wire plugs or get extensions, mount the coils, put the gaskets on the headers and tighten them down, fill the motor/radiator with coolant, run/route the PVC system. Cycle the key and check for leaks in the fuel system and coolant system and then let the heaven sing the sweet tunes of fire breathing power. Whoa I'm getting all excited...

So this weekend the old man came buy and we worked on tiddying up some lose wires, routing and securing the plug wires, fixing the oil leak at the adapter for the oil pressure gauge, running the power wire for the fuel system, and extending the wires for the map and cleaning that up. Next weekend I believe Timmy is going to come over so we can mount the pedal, ecu, and vaporworx stuff and mount the gauge cluster. Onto some quick pictures..

Thanks manand best of luckwith your project. I noticed that you hooked up a pink wire, which I assume is the S wire on the alternator pigtail, to the alternator post on the back side. What about the L wire, did you connect any resistor between the L wire and the alternator exciter?

The reason why I am asking is that I have got the same alternator, and there was only the L wire on the alternator pigtail connected to the alternator exciter wire, and the S wire was not connected. The alternator was not charging the battery when the S wire was not connected. So, I connected the S wire to post on the backside of the alternator similar to yours and started to get 14.4V at the alternator, but there is no any resistor between the L wire and alternator exciter wire. I actually don't know whether the alternator exciter wire is hooked to the dash cluster or to the PCM, and there is no charge light.. I tried to trace the exciter wire but know luck. The wiring harness and the EFI harness are from Painless.

I also realized that a Ford starter solenoid was installed on the fender well,

Hey man. Without being at the car I honestly would only be guessing. My harness is from PSI and he wanted constant power for the pink wire. The main 8 gauge wire runs to the power block which is mounted on the drivers side firewall behind the fender as shown in the pictures above. I would call up Mark who is the owner, hes been doing this for over 30 years. The guy is a book on electrical for cars. Super nice guy..hell get you on the right path either way.:)

After thinking about it for a few days I didnt like how the wires where running over the control arms. So last night I pulled each side off and switched them to see if I could find a nice spot to mount the coils. The problem side is the drivers side as there is the steering box, brake stuff, clutch stuff, and headers. I found a good spot that should work on the underside of the firewall. Ill weld a mounting bracket to the firewall. Once mounted the closest point from header to coil should be no less than 2". Its closer than I like but if I burn up a coil Ill move them inside under the dash. Its part of hotrodding I guess. Im going to make up a heat shield also so that should help. Here are some pictures.. I have to get some better ones of the coils once mounted to show clearance.

So Timmy came over last night to hopefully finish up the welding on the car. Poor Timmy every time he comes close to the car I’m adding stuff for him to tackle. For such a young guy I can’t say enough. Truly an artist and amazes me with the pride he takes in the smallest thing. So the main goals where to mount the pedal, and mount the coils packs. Which both are now done. The coil packs are close to the headers but far enough away I don’t see it being a problem. Just to be safe I’m going to have Timmy make a metal shield to combat some of the heat. I am also going to take apart the coil harness and clean it up as it just looks old/messy. I’ll get some better pictures of the coils and mounting location once they are all done and complete. It was late, the shop was a mess and the lighting was horrible. The pedal box was also welded to the inside once we figured out where it would work best. After some grinding and fitting it’s done. I threw some black paint on it quickly to make sure it doesn't start rusting, got to close while painting and its a bit runny. Not that anyone will see it but I like to show everyone what/how its done..not just the finished project. So go easy on me painters. Timmy also finished mounting the dash lights for the turn signal, check engine light, and high beam lights. It came out great.

I also received the intake piping from summit so I pieced that together and I’m still up in the air if I’m going to paint the pipes some sort of black. Also figured out where we are going to mount the ecu/fuse panel which will be on top of the gauge pod. This way I can get to it but it’s not easily seen. The OBD port will also be mounted to the driver side of the gauge pod, again out of direct sight but easy to access. Last but not least the radiator will be here before the weekend...so that’s the next big to do. Once I get it Ill wire up the fans off the ecu and plumb the steam vent, fill it with coolant and check for leaks. Where getting close. I’m going to schedule the break in/tune sometime next week as long as everything goes smoothly. Onto the pictures..

Got over to the car this weekend. Trying to wrap up the some of the small stuff and get ready for the car to be fired. First off was to rewrap the old wiring for the coil packs. That was done on the driver side as Timmy took the passenger side to make a heat shield. The one coil is a little over an inch away hopefully it will be fine. Well see..I also cleaned the header mounting surface off put the gasket in and put the apr bolts in with some anti-seize , torqued them to spec. Once I get the other coil pack back I'll finish the passenger side.

The radiator showed up on friday so I put that in also and my hoses fit but the lower is just too short. Im going to the auto store soon and see what I can come up with. other than that it should be simple. The wiring harness is really nice and simple. What a great piece compared to others that are close to double in price.

Me and my brother in law made wood blocks to get the car in the air to install and work on easier. So after we made them I put the car on them. The dimensions are 21" x 23" - 8 per block so a total of 32 each. I also got some shots of the of the pedal as people where asking how the travel is limited and exactly where it is located.

Ok so may photobucet is down..hate that sometimes anyway.. Been really pushing on the car could have done it with out the help from family, friends, John over at psi and Carl at vaporworx..both great companies to work with. For the first start the car would run 2-3 seconds and stall. We then scanned for codes and where getting cam and crank. After talking to John we realized the cam signal was wrong and fixed it, again thank you John. The car then fired but was running rough...realizing there is two large vacuums at the back of the manifold that need to be plugged. Once those where closed with my buddies finger here's what we have...

Now the crank code is still coming up which im told I need to get a tech II and do a relearn. Going to address that get some plugs for the intake and I also ordered a fuel pressure gauge to dial in the fuel pressure to make sure she's getting enough fuel.. Hopefully they should get her running well.

Other than all that I need to get the car ready for the engine break-in and tune..which means it has to be drivable. The brake lines are roughly ran but need to be finalized and all the end need to be cut and reflarred to fit the wilwood distribution valve, then bleed. Need to fill both rear and transmission with fluid, put the drive shaft in, bleed the clutch, put the steering box in and steering column back in, and button up all loose end/bolts.

So I’m still here plugging away to get the car on the road.. Got the intake plugged up, installed the fuel pressure gauge and dialed that in. The engine was running a bit longer now but still stalling out. After talking to the tuner and john at psi it was recommended to unplug the maf and have the ecu go into limp mode. After doing that she finally runs and stays running. The tune is too far off at the moment and once tuned it should correct all the problems. I have a tune date set up for this coming Saturday to drop the car off. Ill probably have to push that back some as there is still a lot to be done as seen below:

This past week I hooked up the master to the pedal with a heavy duty ball joint link from mcmaster-carr part number - 60745K841. It was not fun getting it in and hopefully I have enough pedal to not have to mess with it again. Later in the week my buddy John helped me start on running the brake lines and getting everything together. Then on Saturday afternoon me and the old man finished up the brake system and bleed the whole system. Not too bad overall there were a couple small leaks that needed to be addressed but a couple quick tightens and everything is fine. I had to make the two small lines from the master to the distribution block and the first main line going to the rear out of the brake line kit I got from frank at prodigy. The rest of my kit is from inline tube the 8 piece kit for stock in stainless. The rear line is 1/2 from the factory but the wilwood distribution block only accepts 3/16 line. I went to the local napa and they had a 3/16 to 1/2 line that made the transition as seen in the pictures on the drivers’ rocker. The only other modification was because my rear has been narrowed I had to cut the drivers rear axle line about 6" and re-flare the stainless. Here are some pictures.

In the past week we have mounted the drivers coil pack in the drivers fender out of the way from heat being that I felt it was too close to the header. I also ordered and recieved a full magnaflow exhaust (15899) for the car. After some tweeking and a little welding it is on..full 3" dumping right before the rear..I have to get some pictures..In other news I bought a used anvil spoiler from a member on here..Thanks Brian. So I had Timmy mount that last night..Let me tell you that having your brand new carbon trunk lid drilled into is not a pleasant thing..but shes all done now..

So im hoping the car can go to be broke in/tuned this saturday and then I can wrap up the small things to get the car on the road for a shake down this summer. Between me, my brother, cousin, friends and the old man a lot of man hours have been put in recently to get her ready. There is still a lot to be done but the car is far enough alone at the moment to be tuned. Or so I hope...

Heres my done list as of right now...

Mount ecu/relay panel - done
Fill transmission with fluid - done
Fill rear with fluid - done
Tighten all rear bolts/hardware - done
Mount driver coil packs - done
Bleed clutch - done
Tighty up wires for ecu/under dash - done

So the car was set up to go to the tuner on Saturday. After a long Friday night it was as ready as it could be. They will be breaking the motor in and then tuning it all on the dyno. So my dad and brother got over on Saturday and we loaded the car up. Well the car is so low that the headers/exhaust where giving us problems. Once I get it back I will be addressing all these problems. I’m thinking that either way the headers are coming off and I'm going to have them pulled closer to the floor for more clearance. I will probably have to raise the front of the car a bit also and do some rolling/pulling to the front fenders to not have any issues in the future. Other than that the front chin spoiler was making me nervous so we pulled that off before loading it. We get to the shop and start to unload it but half way down the ramp the car stops. Final we drag it off jack the rear of the car up and try to spin the wheel. Won't move at all. So I crack the bleeder screw and then they turn. The head shop guy named Dale thinks either there was too much fluid and it wasn’t breathing?? Anyone have any suggestions or herd of this..? Makes no sense to me...they are going to dig in and hopefully fix it without costing me too much. More progress as I hear it..Here are some pictures from the weekend.

So I disappeared for awhile but have been working on the car. After a week at injection connection Dale called me and said there was a couple issues with the car.

1) The brakes where locking up and won't release.
2) The motor threw the belt
3) Both axel seals are leaking
4) The ecu is throwing a crank relearn code and won't take the relearn.

So I went and picked up the car. He did put a rough tune on it to keep the car running. I brought the car home took all the brake lines apart and blew everything out with air and bleed them all again. Fixed the issue. The crank pulley I'm not really sure on this one. I changed the crank pulley to another one which I don't think did anything. The crank pulley is still in 3/16". I'm still working on this issue. I called moser and got new axles seals and was told on the phone that the fill on there rear is NOT on the rear cover. It's located on the passenger side pumpkin. So between installing the old seals without a seal installer and it being way over full. That issue has been fixed. The crank relearn me and my buddy John tried to fix with a tech II but again is didn't take. Luckily Dale figured out that the values can be turned to 0%, which is what we did.

So once all these issues where addressed. I set up to bring the car back on August 3. That's what we did. Got the car there around 11 and was all done by 3. Great experience with injection connect. Dales got a great crew and is very knowledgable with these cars. Being that it was 90+ outside and high humidity Dale feels there is a bit left on the table, so there might be a retune in the fall..now I was told the car made around 540hp & 570tq at the wheels. But when I look at the graph it shows differently..who knows. Here a quick dyno video and the graph.

So not too much going on in the last month. I’ve been pushing hard to get the car on the road, which has happened. Got the front and back windows installed without the trim for the moment. (Going to try to go flush mount when they come back out for paint and ditch the trim all together if I can) Put the front grill in, all new bulbs in the whole car. So everything works at the moment. Bought and installed ridetechs muscle bar. Had to trim the frame where they welded on these big corner things on the front of the shock towers. Other than that it fit perfectly with my stock lower control arms. I’ll have to get some pictures up. Also my birthday has passed and my wonderful wife bought me a wood nardi wheel for my birthday which has also been installed.

So after all that was done I really wanted to get over to the last car show of the year on august 28th. It was around 5 miles from the house. So the night before I got the car registered which gave me 5 days to drive it before inspection. I had the car registered under standard plates. Not antique or classic - which in PA require no annual inspection of any kind but you can only drive the car 1 day a week and it should be to or from some type of car event. I didn’t build the car to not drive it so that weighed my decision. Which opened up a whole can of worms with inspection. So Tuesday comes and I head out to the car show with some friends and I get about a mile before the show and the car throws a check engine light and goes into limp mode at a red lights. We pushed the car to a driveway and it literally dies out. Before it died I looked at the volt meter and it was reading around 8 volts. So I knew it was something to do with the charging system. Got the car towed through hagerty which is part of my insurance. So all in all it worked out. Come to find out that the alternator was not receiving signal from the ecu. Fixed the issue and everything is now working correctly. Big thanks to John over at PSI for the great customer service in figuring out the problem with me. So on this past Saturday I took the car over to the inspection shop to have it looked over to figure out what I need to have done to legally get a sticker. Here is my next list of problems to be addressed:

1)Need windshield wipers
2)Exhaust needs to exit the rear of the car
3)Need a drivers mirror
4)Needs rear reverse lights
5)Seat belts need to be installed
6)Horn needs to work

All of these seem to not be too bad with the exception of the pipes and the wiper. I really dont want to have to put out money for the custom pipes from prodigy. Im thinking I am going to try my self to get them mocked up and then have them welded at a shop. My labor is free. For the wipers I dont have the cash for the dse kit which is what I want. Im going to try to make the stocker work for the time being and see if that gets me by. I have to buy a side window and the rear rs lights as I dont have them..so if anyone has some used parts please feel free to let me know..we can barter also. So not too much really going on at the moment but I am still moving along with the car..the car passed inspection after I fixed these issues:

1)Installed and put on new windshield wipers
2)Exhaust now exits the rear of the car
3)Installed a drivers mirror
4)Hooked up the rear reverse lights

6)Hooked up the Horn

Drove the car for a bit but a check engine light keeps coming up for tps..after doing some digging on this the ecu has to have the parameters changed for the throttle due to it being a 102 and aftermarket. Talked to Dale and he said bring the car in and he'll take care of it no problem..so I still have to do that. There is two things keeping me from doing this..one is no ebrake and the other is the weather has been getting colder so Ill have to pick a nice day to try to get over there before winter hits being that I have no side windows or heat. For the ebrake I just finished installing this last night. it works but not great. I have to make a few more adjustments and I think it will work great. Have to get some pictures of this.

In other news after driving for a bit I felt that the shifter/steering wheel/right leg area was to tight and I wanted to try to free up some space..so the first thing I did was to try to adjust the shifter and change the position to get it more towards the passenger side a bit. Well I failed at that after breaking 2 allen sockets and the allen key head off in the first bolt. The next day a quick call to Josh over at American Powertrain he tells me that the whole shifter I have it old and they have since revised it to have an internal seal to stop it from seeping. He offers to send me a brand new one and for me to just send the old one back. So that’s what I did...got the new one and took me around 2-3 hours to install. It was a bit tight in that tunnel trying to take out and replace 6 allen bolts by hand...but its done now and I can adjust it. Got some more room from that but I still wanted more so I started looking for a tilt column. Steve Rupp had a brushed aluminum ididit one for sale and I bought it from him and as always what a pleasure to do business with him. Called up ididit and ordered their steering wheel adapter and new rag joint. Got the order and the rag joint was wrong (my fault, counted the splines wrong) sent back the wrong one and am waiting on the new one to come back. Did a quick mock up with the column and with the tilt feature I think this room issue will be resolved all together.

So being that I can’t leave anything alone. I talked to Timmy the other day and we talked about starting the paint process over the winter..so he came over last Sunday and we pulled the whole front end apart so he could take the front fenders and weld up the lower extension to the fenders to give the car a cleaner look. He is also going to get me the primer I need to lay on the car for the blocking..ect. I also ordered the semi-gloss hotrod black single stage that will cover all the interior panels, dash, whole engine compartment, and rear tail panel. So that will get started in the near future. There’s lots of scuffing/blocking and prep work to be done so if your around the area and want to lend a hand let me know. The beer and food are on me.

Thanks man. It will be painted a deep yellow with the z/28 stripes on the hood and trunk that will be left carbon. So far away it will look like black stripes untill you get up close.:thumbsup:

I have thought about this and there is not too many options that will look good. I was thinking some type or airbrush work / vinyl or maybe just a dark grey/black paint on this area..I could get a custom cf piece made for this area and take the thickness of the cf off that area and have it put in..that would be the best option but the most coastly. Im curious as to others thoughts on this.:thumbsup:

There are no good options IMO unless you take the time/$ and french in a piece of CF. There was a guy @ SEMA in 2011 w a Gen 5 Camaro that did grand sport stripes that way. Came out smokin hot!

Fake/Hydro CF next to the real deal is kinda lame. Unless you go the distance, maybe end the stripes on the decklid?

So Timmy came over today being that the fenders where finished for now. I wanted to try to get over to the tuner soon to fix this check engine light that keeps coming up for the tps. Dale has to calibrate the parameters for the throttle body and that should fix the issue. I planned to drive the car over there and put some miles on the car too. Its about a half an hour from me so this would be the cars longest drive to date. So being that we blew the front end apart we reassembled it all again. The gaps and panels go together a bit easier now it seems or maybe I'm just getting good at it.. They have all been massaged in some way so I'm hoping that is the reason. The whole reason for this was to clean up the lines a bit and Timmy has came through again. It looks like it came from the factory like this. Actually when I showed some people they asked me what was done numerous times.. So I'm guessing the job looks good.

In the time I have been waiting for Timmy Ive been busy cleaning up some wiring, installed the parking brake set up, and I also finished installing the DSE wiper kit that I bought used for a good deal. Which went in awesome and works so much better that the stocker. Plus cleans it up a good bit too.

After all that I finished installing the new ididit steering column and getting that where I like it. Again a huge difference over stock, looks great and the adjustable was a must in my opinion. Next stop is back to the tuner for a quick fix and maybe even a colder weather tune... Well see..

Car looks great! Well, it looks like the DSE wiper motor worked out good for you! We are going a different way on my 67 Camaro.

The post on the carbon fiber on the upper deck, well, back in the Pro-Street graphic artists used to use a decal and then painted clear coat over it. The decal can be made by a commercial lettering company. http://http://www.signaramacolumbus.com/ These companies use adobe illustrator now, and you could probably take a photo of your carbon fiber.
The other way is to get someone good with graphics and airbrush it.

Got to work on the car last week some. The few times I have took the car out it has thrown a check engine light for tps. After getting the voltage readout I figured it just needed to be adjusted in the computer. Talked to Dale about it and he says he'll take care of it for free to just bring it in. Before this weekend the farthest the car has been is about 5 miles round trip and always in town. I have not had too much time and honestly been a bit nervous due to the check engine light. Then the cold weather cane and with no heat/side windows it was just adding fuel to my fire. Well last week I sat down and started figuring out the windows. The are all in which made my itch start to get the cel fixed. Being that I wanted to take the car over a half an hour away I didn't want my expensive fuel modual rattling around in the trunk anymore. I talked to Timmy about it and he did a great job as always.

So Saturday my brother cane over early and we made the maiden voyage. The car was great.. Seemed to track very well on the road. Felt good at 60-65 on the highway. There are defiantly some things to be addressed but overall I was very impressed and it seems a lot of others on the road where too. It felt great to get some actual seat time and get to know the car some. Got to the shop and was in and out within a half an hour for free as promised. Drove her home and no check engine light whatsoever. As I was about to pull into the drive way(now note that I had babied the car the WHOLE way there and back as I want to break it in correctly) I gave it a little more than half throttle and my brother looked like he was going to need a diaper. The wheels spun a bit and the rear started to slid.. Just enought to get his eyes big and make him get off his phone.. Good times.. All in all it went great.. Now I just wish it was warm out and with more day light. More to come.. Here are some pictures..

Been busy lately. Got sick of scrapping on the headers and rubbing the tires. So after some though I decided to just go air. Ridetech says that a car can be just as competitive on air as coils. With that being said I started looking. Well new kits are pretty expensive.. 4/5k -/+ I need to have the better of most things and this is no exception. I had a few bucks from Christmas and decided to try to find a used kit for less. Maybe something that will get me on air and then I can upgrade little by little. I found an older system that was made by Ridetech. Guy wanted 2k and after a few email with pictures to Danny over at Ridetech I purchased the whole system for 1500. Thanks for all the help Danny! The big downfall to the system is the management system is very old but I plan to upgrade to the E3 when I get some money saved up again.

While all this was going on I took advantage of MCB Ridetech deal and purchased the tru-turn. So in the past week me and some friends installed it all. The tru turn original did not clear the drives tie rod with my dynatech headers. I did some digging and Chev67 has the same exact setup. After some talking to Jason (Chev67) he let me know that I need to put a 1/4" spacer under the pedestal mounts. After that was done everything cleared fine. Big thanks to Jason.

After all this work I was motivated to get my front wheels on. After some searching I found a very nice set of 275 KDW's for the fronts. Had them mounted and balanced and slapped them on. I still need to order the 1.5 " spacers which will be done this week.. Enough talk onto some pictures..

There has been lots to post so ill bring this back to the surface. The car has had some bad luck recently. The goal for this summer was to get the new wheels on the front. After some brief research into adapters I decided instead of paying 200+ for some custom adapters to make the wheels work I would talk to forgeline and see how much new lips/barrels where. I spoke to Mark over at forgeline and he has been great all the way around. I can’t say enough good things about him and his company. I had 8" barrels and 1.5" lips and we came up with me keeping a 9.5" wheel and changing them to 6" barrel and 3.5" lips bringing the backspacing to 5.6" and front spacing 4.9". Mark even sealed them together before shipping so all I would have to do it put the faces in and bolt them together. I received the assembled lips/barrels and it was just as talked about. I placed the centers in and hand tightened all the bolts down, then started going star pattern with the torque wrench. Got the first wheel done no issues and moved onto the second one. Got 3/4 of the way done and snapped one of the titanium arp bolts into the face. After talking with Steve over at forgeline he said send me the center. Well they extract the broken bolt and send it back. FOR FREE. He did just that..the wheel center was repaired and should be here today. Again thank you Mark and Steve for all the help and great customer service.

In other news I took advantage of MCB ridetechs sale in December and ordered the lower control arms to help with the clearance of the new wheels. They came in and being excited I put them on. After putting them on I could not get the wheel on. The hub was too far up into the wheel well. With the stock upper and lower control arms I had no issues getting the wheels on and off. I called ridetech and after some picture and talking we came to the conclusion that the used front bags that I bought where to short of a stroke. The new lower control arms have a 2-3" drop in the mounting pocket compared to the stock lower control arms. So basically in a nutshell I either need to order new front bags or run stock lower control arms. So for the time being I installed the stock lower control arms.

The next issue was my yellow top battery has been not holding a charge. Being that I bought it through jegs I called customer service and they said no problem. Send it back and we will send you a new one. Pulled the battery and sent it back on a saturday. On that Monday my little brother came over to help me get the tail pipes cut up and reshaped to fit around the rear bags when they are fully aired up without touching. We started around 8pm that night and we were done around 10:30. He says to me do you want to do anything else for the next half an hour. I just received the new lower control arms. So I said yea lets jack up the car and pull the wheels..ect. I always jack the car up under the center of the subframe. Well the car was a bit lower than normal because I didn’t air the front all the way up before I pulled the battery. Being tired and not thinking I went ahead and tried with the jack on the edge of the frame. Got it up almost all the way before the car rolled back a hair, slipped off the frame and the jack went right into the bottom of my radiator. A costly mistake on my part. The next day I talked to Tony at entropy radiators and he told me he would build me a new one for a lot less. Thank you Tony. I was told the lead time would be around 3-4 weeks but I didn’t have any extra cash at the moment so I was fine with the wait. A week later my wife tells me that she has a suprise for me. She went behind my back and ordered me a new radiator. Talk about an awesome woman. So this past weekend I replaced that.

Late last week I took my one good wheel and had the tire mounted to it to do some test fitting to see how much work needed to be done to the fenders to get the wheels to fit. I put the wheel on and it was close but after some rolling and talking with Timmy we decided to just make custom front fender wells. This was if I want to ride the car a little lower on the road it will work and I can take advantage of how low the car can go when parked. We will be continuing this weekend and should have them wrapped up before the spring really hits. After all that is done we will be painting all the trim and the car a flat black for this summer to roll around in. More to come soon..

Great update and way to keep on keeping on after all the hurdles. That sucks about the radiator. We've all made those kids of mistakes.

You nailed the stance, looks great. I am sure you are dieing to get it out for a drive.

So over the past two weeks we have pretty much wrapped up the custom wheel wells. These babies are big, real big. No fitment issues though which is very nice. I can go low, ride low with out any rubbing. Timmy has them now to finish the welding and then prep and paint so more pictures to come. I also am in the process of ordering new triple adjustable shockwaves from ridetech for the front..just need a bit more money. I also wanted to show everyone the work that has been done to the fender lips as I'm sure some are curious. Onto the pictures..

Thanks for all the kind words guys. Been very busy within the last couple of weeks. During the week I Started laying some sound mat on the inside and installing the carpet to enjoy the car a bit more this summer.

In other news I ordered triple adjustable shockwaves from ridetech. I can not say enough about Josh and Danny. Big ups to those guys going above and beyond. Started on putting it all back together on friday night with my brother and got it all done as far as the front end was concerned. Last week Timmy finished the welding, grinding, then body work and paint..He called me on saturday afternoon and said they where done. By saturday night I had a car again. This morning I finished mounting the remote reservoirs to the wheel wells and checking over the front end one more time before I went out. Took the car to the park with the family to shake it out. Now this is the first time Ive drove the car since the air, tru-turn, strong arms, forgeline front wheels w/ 275 tire. It was a whole different machine let me tell you. You can feel the grip that it has compared to before..MUCH more responsive. I have not started messing with the tuning abilities of the shocks yet as I just want to get an idea oh what is the normal. The air is another thing that is taking some getting used to. I love being able to adjust where I need it to be and I love how its so much smoother as apposed to the old qa1's. The only downfall at the moment is since I'm running an old management system there is no pre-sets for the air so dialing it in can be a pain if your adjusting a lot. So I'm driving there and I smell a bit of burning.. get there and take a look. My rear drivers wheel is rubbing on the inside of the well. Almost as if the rear has shifted a bit to the pass side. It would rub a bit on harder turns on coils but on the air it is rubbing when I try to be lower. Unless Im aired all the way up almost it doesn't rub. Which is a really hard ride aired up so much. I am going to try a 1/4" -5/16" spacer on that side to start. I took some pictures when we got back from our walk with my nice camera and my son is obsessed to say the least.

In other news I have a meeting setup with the dealership where I bought my motor this friday to hopefully correct the belt alignment issue Ive been chasing. More to come soon..enjoy.

Thanks for all the kind words guys its come a long way but has a long way to go. Still working through some small issues and bugs as I'm sure all others do. Timmy came over and we prepped the car for paint and took most of the big items off.. Finished the scuffing and prep work on Wednesday night and Timmy came over early on Saturday to start taping and all that good stuff.. We finished taping it out around noon, got lunch then sprayed it.. Not a perfect job but better than it was. This should hold me off for the summer untill I can get the cash to do my yellow with strips. Took the car out on Sunday and it threw two codes and was running a bit rough. After doing some digging everything was pointing to a dirty maf or vacuum leaks. Searched the intake a bit and found these jems.. You think they would make something better for this. Eventually ill pull the intake and plastic seal these holes eliminating any rubber. Enjoy the pictures..

Some updates to record. I've drove the car about 200 miles up to my last update and there was idling issues and check engine lights. I was pulling my hair out checking for vacuum leaks, checking my wiring and doing a lot of reading. Turns out my suspicion was correct and the tune that was on the car was the issue. I ended up buying hp tuners willing to take the tune on myself as my previous tuner told me that a car with that motor/power cant be tuned properly on a stock ecm. I went to a local car show and was talking with some ls car guys and was given a name of a local guy you has a great reputation named KP Tuning. I gave them a call and talked to Karl about setting up a date to road tune the car. We drove around for 4 hours and he really dialed a lot of the issues away. I can’t say enough about the service and current tune on the car now. A world of difference. I would highly recommend him. I was hesitant to drive the car in the past due to the fear of issues/embarrassment and breaking down. I mean you can't roll around with a bagged 67 camaro with a ford lol plate and break down. In the past month I have put over 300 miles on the car with no issues. The 500 mile fluid change is in the very near future.

Now that the tune is correct I started moving on with the alignment and such. My buddy John has all the tools so two weeks ago he came over and we spend the most of a day seeing what we could do. Now note that I have every Ridetech item with the exception of their upper arms. After an inch of shims on each side and the stock arms hitting the header on the passenger side and the power steering pump on the driver’s side I knew what had to be done. The next day I ordered the upper arms from matts classic. Thanks Kim. The new arms arrived two days later thanks to Josh over at Ridetech and I put them on that night. Ridetech continues to step it up and give the customer the best product. These things come with all the hardware, detailed instructions and now have caster slugs to help get any car where the driver wants it to be. An A+ part. Here are some pictures..

Its been awhile and not to much to report on the car. Progress has slowed due to my daughter being born, the new house and the major honey-do list. But I did get new cipher euro seats for my birthday and got them installed a bit ago. They are truly the best bang for the buck. Very nice for the price paid. At the end of the summer after the alignment I did notice that there is a slight vibration through the shifter that can be felt in 4th gear at around 40-50. Only really pronounced at that speed though. It significantly reduces after 50 and none in 5th or 6th. Still doing some reading and chasing that at the moment. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Also Still need to focus on the interior areas and this winter I want to get the ride sensors installed to help with the return to presets. Other than that ill just be waiting on spring to roll around. Here are some pictures of the seats and installed. Enjoy.

A buddy of mind just picked up a 09 Shelby GT500 and the trash talking has started. I have been on the look out for a set of drag wheels and tires for track duty. I figure now is a good time to buy so come spring I can take it to the 1/4 mile. I find a somewhat local guy selling a set of weld prostars with M/T 28 x 10.5W and I take the hour to meet up last Friday night for the set. Get there and the wheels and tires look to be as advertised. 15x10 welds with a 28 x 10.5W M/T. They look good, tires have life left. Just to check I ask the guy for a tape measure. He goes and grabs one.. I measure and come up with 4.5" of backspacing when I was told they had 5.5". I express my concern for the lack of backspacing, we agree on the price and I'm on my way. On the way home I'm thinking there is no way these are going to fit and ill clean them up and sell them at a later date. I figure when I try to bolt them up the inside of the tire will hit the wheel wells and stop them from going on. I get home after the hour drive and decide I will try to see how far off they are. Here are my findings and comparisons..

So they bolt on no rubbing issues that I can see. Plenty of room both fender side and wheel well side. The tires do not look that big under there. I actual think I can go bigger. But for the price these will do for now. The only issue I see is that my existing studs are not long enough. I ordered 3" arp studs and the specific weld lug nuts to run the welds. Now my close ended lugs will not work on my forgelines being that the studs will be so long so I had to order open ended lugs for my forgelines. More to come once I get the arp studs in.

Thanks guys. Its a slow progress but it will get there.

So I figured out after some talks with jegs that weld makes closed end lugs that can be used with the studs I already have. So I ordered them. In other news we had a nice day in January so I took the car out. It started to stumble and the idle was acting up a bit again. Nothing like before but it was bothering me. I called my tuner up and talked to him and started to do some reading. Well many on the forums really have good things to say about the holley efi setup. I started looking around and the Holley HP EFI kit seemed like the best fit for me with the exception that it doesn't accept DBW. So I talked to holley and if I wanted to stay with my current setup id have to step up to there dominator setup. Searched a bit and found a used setup on craigslist. The ecm was brand new in the box but the wiring had been used. So I made a deal and pulled the trigger. I sold off my old setup and pulled everything out and have spent the last week installing the new harness and rewiring everything to look clean. I can say I am very impressed with the system. The user face is so easy it makes me feel like a tuner. I got the car to start two days ago without a tuner to assist me which says a lot. My tuner is coming tomorrow night to put the final tune on it so ill have it ready for this upcoming spring/summer. No dyno time at this point just doing a road tune and some WOT pulls so I can hit the track also. Next up for the car is installing the level sensors for the airride and I have talked to a buddy about notching the rear 4 link bar to make some more room for the car to go lower in rear. Stay tuned..
