The debut with the new engine and chassis changes went better than expected. I came in 6th place out of 88 cars. http://lvrscca.org/race-results/autox/2010/round03_raw.htm I outgunned a ZO6, bad ass cobra with experienced driver, 2 new camaros by a mile, and a couple track champions. These old cars can handle boys.
The car was foreign to me from the git go. It had so much more power and right now. The throttle is now easy and long vs. short and hard. The rear sway bar took it from understeer to oversteer. It was to loose so I made some air pressure and shock setting changes and it helped. I didn't bother to adjust the rear bar. It needs tigtened up some for sure. I'll end up backwards at 100mph with it this loose. It really made maneuvring the cones easier as long as I was really on top of it. I still absolutely hate the brakes. The knockback is still excessive and I need to whip it. I really feel another second is in the car with capable brakes. It throws my timing off pumping the brakes. The best part was having my folks there. My Dad rode shot gun all but two runs and the ride there and home through the lake. My Mom showed up just in time for the last runof the morning and was shotgun for my fastest clean run. Great day and the car is waaaaay faster! Here is my best clean run with 2 more later.....
Enjoy in HD!

Very cool Todd! I agree it looks like you are hauling the mail. How big is your steering wheel? It's hard to tell but it looks a little on the smaller side. Maybe a little bigger might not tie/handcuff your hands too much? I don't know know, just asking because I have yet to buy a steering wheel and looking for feedback.

Thanks boys:cheers: I have another video uploading that shows just how loose the car was. On the ragged edge for sure. I had both 5th gen owners ask for a ride. The first said he wanted to sell it and buy a real car. The second was real cool chick, she said I scared the living hell out of her. She actually pointed out a spot I could get faster, I was impressed and agreed.

Not sure but I'll measure it if you want. I wouldn't want faster steering so I think it's perfect. I'd say the DSE sub may be a little quick if anything. I'm happy with it. Watch my hands only in the video.
Here's the out of control video. I got greedy and it really shows how loose the car was today.

Nice vid Todd. Awesome you had your parents there. My mom doesn't like me driving even 80 cruising on the freeway. "SLOW DOWN!" :willy:
I now live vicariously thru you and many others here.

 I definitely felt like it hard more front bite especially in the slower corners. The over steer certainly didn't hurt that either. I've made the car 5 times harder to drive with the extra power that comes much faster and the over steer. It's made the car alot more fun to drive. Before it had understeer like most factory cars do. It was predictable, if you were to hot you simply let off the throttle. Now I just have to saw the wheel. The looseness let's be snake around some cones I would hit before. I'll be looking for a more neutral setting in the coming events. It's safe to say it will be more neutral for the El Toro road course. In fact it may get disconnected since I don't have much experience and would rather play it safe. Depending on autocross setup it may very well be this loose for that portion. I don't have time to test it out before hand. It should have around 550 RWHP&TQ. It's just got killer average torque all the way from 2500-6800. Really happy with my new power plant. It's getting horrible gas mileage but the drivability is good. Of course I wasn't exactly ***** footing it on the way home either. Couple 50-105mph blasts around cars on the lake road.

Very cool... nice vids!
At some future event we should trade cars for a few laps.. would love to try it out with the new big block.
One thing though.. you said the car now has oversteer and that you need to tighten the bar. If you mean that as "make it stiffer" then won't that add in even more oversteer?
Good job at the autocross and with representing us old Camaros..
Is it ready for a photoshoot yet???
Vegas69
03-28-2010, 08:33 AM
That would be fun Steve. I'm game. The car is 99.9% ready for a photoshoot. I have a set of Marquez tails ordered in matte black and should have them at El Toro.(In my hands) I'll be there on Thursday since I'm taking the driving school Friday. You let me know.
I need to move the sway bar into the end hole to lighten the bar. I had it in the cener hole for the race. I can't imagine needing the stiffest hole except maybe on a Good Guys autocross. :unibrow: I also found out my cheapo tire gauge reads 5 psi high. I had 28/26 psi in the tires. Not enough! I need to get me a quality gauge.

After El Toro you should just leave the car down here for the Del Mar GG show.. I can find you a safe place to keep her.
Beats hauling it back and fourth.. just an idea

Todd--my garage is open brother---leave Payback here if you like for the week---take the following Friday off---fly in Thursday night to John Wayne--i'll pick you up--we drive the cars down to Del Mar on Friday. You can fly out Sat night.
Gee, I guess that still leaves your car here in my garage doesn't it?:unibrow:
Just leave it here through the GG show in Costa Mesa--it'll be fine.

Hey Todd great video and nice job of driving. I just figured the real reason you put those hood locks on there - you use them as gun sites for that bullit! The car sounds great . Only problem I had was seeing the openings in the cones Wow Fast! Enjoy it you worked hard on it.

They do, but I have a hard time comparing my car to a PAX based on AWD Lancers and Scooby Doo's with traction control and abs that seem to dominate my class. I rode with the number 1 guy in his Lancer and it was INSANE. I smiled so much my cheeks hurt. They are over 3 seconds ahead of me and I'm not catching them. A6's and better brakes could shave maybe half, but I'm not to conerned with it.

You make me proud man. Big Blocks can't handle! LS motors are great no doubt, but there is something to be said about a 500" motor that only weighs what a iron small block weighs.
I told you the sway bar would loosen it right up. Until we see what the track looks like at El Toro. I have no idea how they lay out a track there or how long it is. I would leave it in the center hole for now. If it is a 35 to 40 second track, you will probably want it in the center hole. Simple enough to change if you find it to tight back there.
Can't wait to see it again, see ya Friday.

Did you get the Carbotech pads installed?
What spring rate are you running in the rear and front? You could soften the rear spring a touch if you are still loose after the sway bar adjustment.

I ran out of time and energy. That carb whooped my ass for two days. I'll get them on before El Toro. It's quite possible the rear spring rate may need to drop slighty. I think the front hole will be neutral enough. I'm really kicking around going to a floating rear rotor right now. I don't know what else to do at this point. I was talking to the guy with the Cobra and he had exactly the same issue. Going to a big ford end and tapered bearing fixed his, he's 1000 lbs lighter. It's got to be axle or bearing flex and I just can't believe a 33 spline axle flexes this much. Moral of the story is manual brakes and autocross aren't ideal. 25 corners in 51 seconds makes it tough to pump brakes.
Man that looks so fun! Your car rips!!!!!

Thanks alot...:unibrow: It doesn't really need new brakes just some tweaking. I have an idea but won't have time before El Toro to mess with it. I'll just have a built in excuse for the event.
