We are also doing another, Simple Truck for the same customer. this truck is actually for Frank's son in law, Andy. It will be flat black cruiser with the majority of just old parts Frank decided not to use in his build.

We set up the old LS1 engine and 4L60E trans and used the welders series mustang II crossmember with ride tech arms to just build a basic front end and be able to use some of the ditched parts from his 48 truck build.

Thanks Brent. Justin's High School hot rod should be pretty cool. Especially since his Dad, Dale Lambert is building the 540 for it. Just your basic all aluminum 540.
We might have 3 tri-5's at SEMA.

Well in case you have not heard we also were able to pick up this rig from the marketing company that does all of BFG's stuff. It is 2000 Freightliner with a Big Cat engine and only 360,000 miles. It has a 53 for Featherlight trailer with lift gate on the back. It is set up to haul 5 cars. It can easily hand cars up to 63". That is rare option. I found this truck on a smokin deal in South Carolina from Keith the driver for DSE. He used to drive this truck. One of my Customers flew out to S.C. and drove it back from me. We are about ready to get the vinyl logos done to get them on the truck before Colorado.

No it just makes sense, My F-450 gets 8mpg and can haul 2 cars and this truck gets 7mpg and can haul 5 cars and has a 20x50 awning. Plus at Goodguys shows you get preferred parking with a big rig, which means better spots for the same money. It also mean I can actually take enough cars and frames to display our frame line properly. Insurance is a bit more and registration is more also. But it really got to a point that it seemed stupid to not get it.

I got some pics yesterday from Alan Palmer's Customs who is doing the paint work on the the Donkey Kong car. He commented how nice it was to do body work on proper metal work. You can see by how much filler or bondo is used that the car is pretty straight with out filler.

We are trying to have all the metal work done and ready to swap this truck by the end of the month for a 36 ford 5 window. Then we can trade the truck out for a long over due car he promised his daughter 20 years ago. Frank and his son in law are going to get the mechanical work set up on the truck while we get the 48 and his daughters 36 ford 5 window together.

Well Everybody keep say we must be really busy right now. I have been pretty quiet on here. We have been pretty busy. Getting the Big truck ready for Des Moines and Columbus.
We did a push to get Brandon's 55 together far enough as a baremetal roller to show the low stance of our Tri-5 chassis. We have been working on some custom control arms and steering arms to get everything optimum with the ability to run the frame 3.5" off the ground if you want to. We were able to stuff the new Budnik E85 wheels under the front and rear in Michelin rubber, 335/20 and 265/18. We could go a bit more with the some inner fender mods. The stack injection on a 572 looks awesome.

You can also say a little prayer for Jake. He is the spoiled shop dog that goes home with me everynight. I got him 10 years ago for valentines day. Well I got rid of the girl and he has been around here since day one of Ironworks. Well the vet said he has got Lymphoma. They say it will take him pretty quickly. So things around the shop will be pretty dull for a while. Anybody that has been to the shop has met Jake and knows he is a highlight of anybodies visit.

Well the month of July has been a real busy one. Broc and I flew to Des Moines to meet the Hauler at the Goodguys show at the Iowa State Fair grounds. On the weekend of what some said was the hottest days on record in Iowa, Broc and I jumped in the Goodguys Giveaway car and headed toward Columbus on a 3 day journey with the top down. WARNING this story is trying to be posted with only the pics from my crappy phone camera because my regular camera was forgotten on my desk in California.
Here is picture from Monday morning after the show when were leaving the hotel.
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/tt248/ironworksspeed/Goodguys%202011%20Giveaway%20Car%20-%20Clean%20Aire%2055/Onroad9.jpg
This picture was taken on I-80 I believe east with the hammer down. At this point we realize that sunscreen might be good. We sat on the side of the road waiting for the road tour group for The Goodguys Road tour group to catch up to us. Well we finally gave and headed to the First stop, Yogi's Street Rod parts somewhere in Iowa, Near some corn.

http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/tt248/ironworksspeed/Goodguys%202011%20Giveaway%20Car%20-%20Clean%20Aire%2055/download.jpg
So after that road stop and meeting the group that just wanted to sit in the HOT HUMID SUN ad talk and talk. We head toward some town on the Mississippi River for Dinner and some small Iowa car show. I will tell you there is lot of corn in Iowa.
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/tt248/ironworksspeed/Goodguys%202011%20Giveaway%20Car%20-%20Clean%20Aire%2055/onroad4.jpg
So Tuesday morning Broc and I got up early to back track 30 miles to Fast Lane Rod Shop in BFE Iowa. When I tell you his place is in the middle of no where. Our first attempt to get to his place was looking like we had to go down a dirt road. So we drove around some big ass corn fields and some more corn fields to find a half mile paved drive driveway that may lead to the only trees in Iowa. I tend to think Dave Lane is one of the most talented and nicest guys in the industry. He does everything himself except interior. And wins big awards with every car. www.fastlanerodshop.com

So after Rad Rides, ( Sorry No pics ) Just check out their site, WOW is all I have to say, We were off to Indy. We stayed the night at a fellow Lat-G members house. He feed us like kings and gave us some much needed non Hotel AC for the night. Then was able to pull off a shop tour at Chip Ganassi racing. They would not allow pics, not that We could have done anything more then a crappy Cell phone pic, but HOLY COW, I had some serious shop envy.
We stopped to refuel after every 180 mile stretch for food and drinks and shade. Remember that sunscreen we bought on Day 1, well it did not work. We were burnt to a crisp. My ears looked like pork rinds. That stuff was junk. But we were traveling about 80mph and pulling down in the neighborhood of 23 mpg with that LS3 E-rod engine.

The pics were taken by the Goodguys staff.
I'm sure the chassis's are completely different. Just the size of the 2 cars is night and day difference. Plus the stock X frame Impala chassis is pretty weak.

In other news the Donkey Kong Camaro should also return next week from paint. So final assembly will begin on that. The Cognito Motorsports 56 chevy should be just about ready for paint and body in the next few weeks. The 55 Chevy should be not to far behind the 55 to paint work also.
I have been buried in design work for the 58-64 Impala chassis. We hope to have a chassis mock up at Pleasanton next month.

Well as weird as it sounds. I sold the C6-57 to a big time broker at the beginning of the year. He buys and sells more cars in a month then I will own in my life. He really only messes with exotic's. But he saw the post about my truck on EBAY of all places. He called me and put together a really good deal on my end to sell him the truck and for him to resell it at Barrent Jackson. Plus I get a percentage of the profits and I risk nothing. I already got paid. Apparently that organization is all about who you know. Pretty soon the truck was being hauled to Orange county to promote the Las Vegas auction and then spent a few weeks in Scottsdale getting pics and stuff ready to sell it at Las Vegas next month.
Well the pics they took were really nice and I thought I would just post them up in here for all to see. So next month watch for the truck on Speed TV. Apparently she is going to be a star. Plus I get one more round of marketing from this project before she goes off into the sunset.

Last Wednesday we left for Pleasanton to do the Goodguys West Coast nationals. What a great show. We took the Donkey kong car up to show off out Hot Rod Fab parts brackets before they were covered up by all the interior parts and the very nice paint work from Palmer's Customs. We also showed our project 57 Chevy on it's new chassis. I also drove the Packard up and back. We put some 200 miles on it each way. It's fun to pass people in that car at 75. They just can't imagine a big ass car like cruising at 80 mph down I-5 in the middle of no where.

We have been selling all kinds of different parts to help the home builder with some parts that are tricky to mount in a car with brackets we have laser cut and in a larger quantity to sell them and use them on the various cars we are building or fabricating. We sell tons of LS1 and LS2-9 ECU brackets. Guys can trim and fit the bracket fr use however or where ever you want to place your parts.
We sell an ECU bracket that has an add on side plate to mount the factory fuse panel. We also sell the ECU bracket by itself. 40 bucks for the ECU, 20 for the add on.

Because the only reason you can even see the top of that awning is because I took the picture. I could not see the reasoning for another 2K to put my logo up there. That damn awning was like 5500 bucks as it is.

well not only that but the lettering on the side is hard to read, you can only see the bottoms of the letters.
I know that its probably a shade or shadow thing but, you have to think about how it will be seen in photos or in magazines. For instance a photographer could be taking a picture of a car close by, but your awning makes it into the photo, it gets put in a magazine but you can't read it, you missed another opportunity to get your name or logo out there.

The pedals brackets I have made fit the pedal that comes with the GM performance parts engine harnesses. Part number 10379038
The bracket is made from .120 P&O material steel. You could easily modify this bracket install a GTO pedal. I figure this pedal bracket will or can get modified if someone whats something custom.

Do you still offer the ISIS brackets Rodger? If so, can you PM me a price on 5? Shipping to Kentwood, MI 49508. Thanks.
I do. Shipping is a flat rate 15 buck in a postal box. We offer them in aluminum and steel for various mounting positions. They are currently 20 bucks each.

All 5 will fit in the box easily. You have room for quite a bit more if needed. That's what is so cool about those boxes. However much you can stuff in a box and it ships for a flat fee.

One of my local customers buddies brought his camaro that made a major set up change in his 2000 Camaro true 10.5 car. We are mounting some parts and doing some basic fab for the change. He went from a 726 cu in Sonny Leonard 5 stage nitrous engine to a destroked 588 with twin 104 turbo's on Alcohol. It ran 7.10's on nitrous and is looking to run high 6's. Oh and the engine has some crazy light weight short stroke crank that will spin to 10,200 RPM..... OH MY

Because the only reason you can even see the top of that awning is because I took the picture. I could not see the reasoning for another 2K to put my logo up there. That damn awning was like 5500 bucks as it is.
You can get one of those inflatible balloon signs to put on top of the trailer...and exta 2K might get you twice that in business.
Stopped by, DK looks much better now, love the dash work.

Well my plan on the hauler is to build a fold up seating area on the roof that would give a shaded place to hang out and give vertical banner space. There are welded pivot bungs up on the roof already.
The reason we took that car wa sto show the dash work we did and what sets our work apart. The DK project has come along really nice. It's amazing how just a really clean and basic Camaro can stand out now days in a sea of over the top Camaros. The car was painted at Palmer's Customs in Camarillo. If you need his contact let me know. So far we have been really happy with his work. One of my biggest customers is looking to take to more projects to him in the next few months. We have another project there currently also. Both Dk and the other project should be at SEMA.

Well we did some custom taillight work on the 1960 Ford. We used some custom tail lights from Marquez for this project. We had to form the reveal around the taillights and build everything to get it to fit the slightly bigger light diameter. I like it. Check it out
Stock with mock up tailgate installed

The Die we made to form the bigger reveal around the taillight. Just some 5" drill pipe Machined for the desired reveal.

They are just bigger lights then a 2nd gen that Marquez sells regularly. They are 5" OD. The metal rings would be pretty labor intensive but could be done I suppose. Even though we made the tool there is lots of fine tuning to get it nice. Nothing nice is never easy. But I could not imagine those lights with out that reveal around them and luckily for me neither can the customer.

The front boxes in each corner under the bed are for ice chests. The passenger rear one will be for the battery and the drivers side rear is for the gas filler and some tools. We have to also make a Cigar rack.

Well you will have to talk to the guys at Ford about that, swoop-te-doop is factory. But don't worry we are going to get started on a custom rear bumper that will cover that up. It will be a major ordeal. There is probably more time spent in the bed of the truck then the whole rest of the truck at this point.

At the end of the day, what ever it is, be it the nicest truck on earth or a pile of wasted steel. It is still a pick up truck. My goal 5 years ago was to show what we could build and thanks to my talented staff and lots of hard work. It has done great things for us.

Really sorry to see the truck go... I've considered (mulled over) buying it several times for myself, then letting him keep it to take to shows in the big rig... Probably kick myself for not having the stones. Oh well.
Once again - the auctions seem to lack real firepower... which is no surprise. Also I note that several big time buyers are selling some of their stuff... and that raises the hair on the back of my neck. But lets not jack Rodgers thread.

Im kinda sad to see a that hard work gone. But im also glad to see it go. That truck did what it was supposed to do, put us on the map. Not sure what the map is of. But we are on somebodies map. We got one final round of marketing out of it and I got a couple grand more then my best offer would have netted me.
It was kind of sad just leave the truck parked in the building and not have any idea where its going or be able to show some one how to use all gizmo crap on the truck. Its not like there is an owners manual for it.

Seems that all I have been doing is small little emblems.
I want something big to work on.
First pic is a CAD model. Second pic is of a laser scan of a factory emblem, that is going to be updated in Billet.

Well I guess it's time for a long over due update.
The 48 made the SEMA show in the final hour. We then took it to Scottsdale and Del Mar for the Goodguys events. We got a Truck of the Year Finalist for 2012 award at Del Mar over Thanksgiving weekend.

We have been keeping a 1962 Bubbletop project somewhat quite for a little while. Build thread coming soon. It will be the first car to get one of our 58-64 Impala chassis's. It is getting the Big Magnuson Supercharger on top of an LSX-376 with a Wegner front drive system. It will have a paddle shifted 4L80 trans. We are working on a rendering and so on right now. Here are a few sneak pics of the build. Trust me when I say it will be cool. Trust me when I say these are not the wheels for the car. We think we have found the perfect wheel from HRE.

The 1960 Ford should be going to Palmer's Customs for some paint and body work in the next few weeks. We are trying to meet an end of April deadline on this project.
We have started work on a pretty basic little 1934 Ford fiberglass car. The customer had the body and chassis. We are about ready for Paint and body on the Cognito Motorsports 1956 Chevy. The 1955 Chevy is coming along and might see paint and body this summer.

Well how kool would that be!! My build budget is around half a million bucks -- so I figure the car will be worth AT LEAST 50 grand when it's all done. :woot:
Well -- unless I post an Ad on FleaBay -- then I will make some moronic statements about "If you don't buy this MoFo right now for triple what it cost me to build... then it's going to Barrett Jackass where I'm sure some drunk high roller will buy it for far far more!"

Don't worry Greg when your and out of money and living on the streets. We can do a fundraiser benefit for you and have some celebrities helps sell it for at least 60K. Just imagine the star power of Doug Renner and Todd ICEMAN Akes. And I'm sure for a small donation for his foundation, Carl Casanova would come out to support you also as long as you have scheduled TV time for him right after Mary Pozzi drives the car on to the stage.

I'll always have plenty of dough.... note in the photos of the Bubblebutt... my newest innovation (Cassanova is going to handle the marketing) - a "can't fail" parking brake system... made out of common household items (dunnage)... I should be able to sell this idea for millions. The margins will be huge.

A couple more appropriate names that I've come up with:
Payback
But that's already taken....
Gray Balz
More appropriate given my age...
Jackass
Fit's my personality...
50/50
'Cause it's kind of a business deal...
Chicanery
'Cause we are having fun with it...
Tweak or Tweaker
'Cause that's how it all starts...
Project Unfair
'Cause all you're going to have to do to go faster, quicker, or corner harder is to just open the door - get out - and get into another car... We're really building three cars just to prove our point.

If the "few tweaks" thread is an indication of where this is going, you'd better start a dedicated thread or this one isn't going to have much to do with what (else) is happening at Ironworks! :P
"Bubblegun" - requires something really awesome for a motor (the gun part) or actual military weapons transplanted onto the car.
The name is Bond... Greg Bond.
