Awesome Marcus!!
 :D
Very nice Marcus. What a work of art. I would not paint it, just spray clear over it. :unibrow:
Now we're talking! Looks good.
Like Jay said too nice for paint Marcus, thats one fine looking frame.
I'd have framed pictures of that on my office walls, if it were mine. Killer chassis Marcus!
Time to change your user name to...'Slick' :D  brother
Thanks guys!! As stated before though, more close up and detailed pics once I pick it up and get it home. It's been a long time...a year and a half to be exact.

Thanks Masi, I'm glad you like it. But, no I didn't make it. I had a chassis shop build it for me. Really nice guys to work with and know their stuff. Been in business for over 30 years in the same location...family owned. Street Rod Garage out of Grant, Alabama.

Thanks for checking on me Ron. Well guys, I'm back after making a 28 hours round trip haul in 2 days all by my lonesome. I was just me and a radio to listen to. Anyways, here are a few pics for now. Not blowing my own horn, but this frame is awesome. This thing is built to be beaten on. Although, I'm not a track guy and it won't get beaten on. LOL!! It was all nice and had that sanded down look, but I met some bad rain on the way home, so on a few of the pics you may see some light rust. More pics to come after I take it off of the trailer when I get it to my shop guys place to start fitting the body on Monday. I dare not take this off of the trailer at my house alone.
At Street Rod Garage after getting it loaded onto the U-Haul.

#1 --- AWESOME!!
#2 -- I wiped down a chassis (for my '37 Ford) with WD40 about 5 years ago and it has absolutely ZERO rust on it - no flash rush - no anything. It came home after loading it in my trailer in the rain - (thus the "water dispersing WD). I'm still surprised - because I live in the Pacific NorthWET.

Thanks Greg. I made sure my little cheapo digital camera had batteries in it this time. :poke: Ron called me before I left Thursday and told me to get some WD-40 too. :bitchslap: But, I was running late, so I never stopped to get any and the rain was waiting for me head on. :bang:

Masi, my exhaust is designed to run under the IRS. There are two cut outs on the bottom of the back plates holding the 9" housing for 3" exhaust. I'll get some pics of it when I get the detailed shots Monday.

how expensive was the frame with the IRS?
214Chevy
02-23-2013, 10:47 AM
how expensive was the frame with the IRS?
Hahahahaha.... somehow I knew that was gonna come up. Well Masi, mine is a bit of a different story. I'll try and sum it up in a nutshell the bestway I can. This frame has taken nearly 2 years to build...a little over a year and a half. I knew it would be a while going into it, so I was fine with it. So, since it was the first IRS they built, the builder took a little more time on R&D to make plans for it to be able to fit in all of their chassis's. He used my build to make jigs for other chassis's. He used my frame as a basis to make several different control arm lengths. So, since my car wasn't ready and would not be for quite some time, I told him to take his time and in return I would get a cheaper price than others. We had an agreement for me not to be spreading what I paid because the next man would pay a higher price. And if I went around bragging on how I got such an awesome deal, the next customer would expect the same. So, I vowed to secrecy to never, ever, ever reveal what I paid. :G-Dub: Also, I have to honor that becuase when I go back to get my C10 chassis built I want the special homeboy discount again.:lmao:

Well guys, dropped the chassis off at the shop today. Little did I know, my builder had already began cutting the trunk last Thursday and Friday since he knew I was going to go get it and bring it home. He only cut the rear wheel well's and some of the trunk until he got the chassis. He didn't want to cut too much, but was getting ahead.

So Marcus, does your builder have a timeframe for completion? Do you have to repaint the car?
Well Scott, my car would have been finished this summer had I not sold my motor and bought the Kenne Bell supercharger. Now, I need to get my block which will be an RHS 427. So, that will set me back to next summer. But, I'll have the my new motor by August or September.
Congratulations Marcus that chassis looks almost as sweet as my RS :D

Rob, you just can't beat an RS chassis. That is, unless it's mines sitting next to it. :poke: As far as finish, it will be powdercoated charcoal grey. The control arms and all of the other small pieces (and there are alot of them) will either be black or silver.

No big update guys. Just setting the ride height and test fitting the engine and tranny. Also adjusting the rear track width.
Test fitting the engine...

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l536/2quedogg/72%20Chevelle/DSCF0749_zps4f2540be.jpg
This will be the ride height on the rear...
http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l536/2quedogg/72%20Chevelle/DSCF0746_zps0cd757a2.jpg
http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l536/2quedogg/72%20Chevelle/DSCF0745_zps3b38375d.jpg
Hear is where we adjusted the rear track width outward by 1". At first the rear wheels were too far inward. My chassis builder made it where the the rear track width was adjustable just in case I ever wanted wider or narrower tires. If you look closely you can see where the rear upper control arm mounts, you will see four, little spacers. They are just for mock up only. We will machine a 1" plate to go in there. My chassis builder made the rear lower control arms adjustable also. I'll include some old pics from back in the thread so y'all can see what I'm talking about.
Before the 1" spacers...
http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l536/2quedogg/72%20Chevelle/DSCF0662_zpsbc9bbfef.jpg
After the 1" spacers...
http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l536/2quedogg/72%20Chevelle/DSCF0754_zpsc3e8233e.jpg
This is where the rear lower control arms adjusts outward. Each mounting hole is 1" outward. Hence, the 1" spacer plate in the upper control arm. Therefore, every hole you move outward on the lower control arm, you need to add a 1" plate to the upper control arm.

Also, you can see where the ride height can be adjusted up or down by moving the rear control arm mounting points.

Lastly, here are a few pics of how well the frame tucks and hides up under the body. This part of the frame will be hid when the rear, wheel wells are built.

Scott, if you're familiar with the C5/C6 spindle, the end of the axle goes thru a spindled hub. At the end of the axles, they are threaded and a large nut screws onto the end. Well, my builder ordered the axles about an 2" longer to accomodate going outward with the track width. As you can see from the pic with the lower control arm, there are four holes. Making the track width adjustable outward up to 4". But, of course we know I'll never adjust outward 4".
Not boring at all, I'm loving it.
Thanks Wayne.

The trunk fab work continues guys. Got all the panels made and pre-fitted...well, uh...test fitted. However, the saying goes. Welding will begin shortly. But, before that the next thing to do is to put the design work on the panels with the bead roller. Not to much going on lately. Bead rolling work has begun though. On the back piece in the first pic, you can see where the center bead rolled triangle is a little off-center to the right. I told my builder that was okay. He offered to redo it and I told him no need. It's going to get covered up anyway. I'm not leaving it exposed.

This is going to be a bad a$$ car. I think you've been working on yours as long as I have.(2004ish?) I wish I had some progress to share.
I bought the car in 2003 and finished building it in 2006. I rushed it and just settled for certain parts. Nice parts, but the cheaper versions, such as Baer Brakes 11" kit when I knew all along I wanted the big, 6-piston kit. Or I had leather Corbeau's which were very nice seats, but I knew I wanted Recaro's. I just didn't want to spend the extra money and was never really happy with the car. Stuff like that is what led me to a 2nd build and to build the car right this time. As the saying goes, I wished I had built it right the first time. Most definately would have been cheaper. But, I was new to the game of building cars and unknowledgeable about alot of things. Still not a pro, but I've learned alot since then. This 2nd rebuild started in 2010 and should have been finished as I put it in the shop for a simple LS & T56 Magnum upgrade. Now, look what has happened..... :pushbutto

Sorry guys, I'm not trying to give you single, small updates here and there, but I'm jumping thru the roof with this one. I finally got my Recaro buckets seats today. :ups: I got them from J.J. Custom Interior. With that being said, the quality is great. I had to wait a little longer than expected, but I'm really satisfied with the quality and craftsmanship. They are 100% leather. I chose the diamond pattern on the inserts to kind of keep an old school vibe going on with the interior. I plan to incorporate the diamond pattern into the center of the Fesler door panels as well. I'd also, like to take this time to give a very big thank you to Raj (canrc). Raj played a mediator in me getting my seats....long story. He took time out of his day on several occassions to check on my seats and made sure I got them. Again Raj, I cannot thank you enough.

As far as the two other things to do, they are build a small mount and find somewhere to place the Finch dual vent tank and order about six of those "pancake bump stops" from Energy Suspension to fit between the bracing made on the underside of the top of the notch.

Here are a few side shots of the underside of the top piece of the notch. You can see the bracing added for extra strength in addition to the bead rolling. To protect the frame once powder coated, I will put one of those little (as I like to call them) "pancake-like" bump stops on both ends of each rail right above the IRS frame rails to support added weight just in case I put my custom stereo box there....hint, hint.:secret:

Thanks for the love guys. Next, I'm gonna redo the firewall. I had it shaved, but it was just shaved with no dimension to it. I'm gonna have it cut out and redo it with some sort of sick bead rolled design to it in order to give it a more appealing look. But, I'm gonna have to recoup after this trip and the purchase of the purse. LOL!! Y'all know I'm not stupid. :mock: I had better bought that purse or else and I'll buy another one today if I know what's good for me. :knokwood:

Thanks guys for checking on me. I'm still alive and kicking. I do have another thread Heep, but I haven't updated either in a while. I'm just stacking money right now for the motor. Too much going on right now with year end property taxes and Christmas. I should have the motor by mid spring. Trust me, I'll update here before anywhere else. Besides, those guys over on Chevelles.com seem to not be heavy into the protouring/custom stuff. Just my opinion.

No worries, i'm still stuck on my trans mount and have no time or money at this point. Bad thing is, a couple of hundred and time will set it on the tires.

I still like this plan. Get you on the road this year with some extra gas $$ to burn and still run hard.:D
Decisions, Decisions eh? I keep kicking around (and hoping for a good deal on one)a supercharger for the ls3 in mine, but it may have to wait. :bang: :bang:

Scott, why you call me out like that. LOL!! I've been busy. Had to put the car on the back burner for a while. I mean, family first, right. Although, if it wasn't for the kids...I'd have been finish with this car. Well, here's a small sneak peek of what's been going on. I figured I'd do like the big time shops and keep the car under wraps. Hahahah!!
Decided to go with the new Dart SHP LS Next block with piston oil squirters. Engine will be a LS7, 427 with a 4.0 Whipple. Pistons are custom 4.125 bore Diamond pistons. I have All-Pro 12-1 heads on order as well. Will post pics as soon as they come in. I still need to get rods and crank though. Also, have the Wegner accessories drive ordered too. Supercharger pulleys will be 10-rib and the accessories will be 6-rib...I think. Can't recall if Casey at Wegner told me 6 or 8-rib. LOL!! Here are a few pics for now.

Nice stuff Marcus! I have a ""little" engine build going of my own :secret:
Now you know that we're gonna need some pics of the actual Chevelle also, right? Is your chassis in Powdercoat? Car in paint? These teasers just won't do my friend...

These teasers just won't do my friend...
Awe man, you're not gonna let me make it are you? LOL!! I've been putting off powder coating the frame and all until I made my mind up with the motor and gas tank. As far as the car, I may have to recess the firewall because of the rear inlet of the supercharger. All this has been up in the air for months. I've now finally made up my mind. Although, I do have a few more bills to pay off before I get back on it full time. I couldn't powder coat the frame because I had to weld the brackets of the Rick Vaporworx tank to the rear frame rails. But, couldn't do that because there was an issue with the tank after it was built. The tank itself was flawless, but where they put the fuel return line bung, it prevented me from fitting the tank in its place in the back....the square part. The bung keep hitting the frame rail. So, I had to send it back to Hector at Ricks and have them remove it and place it somewhere else. Here are a few pics.

good stuff, moving slow isn't necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes it equals quality. Loved the :flashie:

True Bill. At times I think my build may be going in reverse it's so slow. Make no bones about it though, I have a plan and I'm sticking to it and I won't settle for less and not be happy with the car. Been there, done that and that's why I had to rebuild it this second time because of settling and taking short cuts to hurry up and get the car finished and not being happy with the car. Vowed to never do that again. Plus, it was my first time restoring a car and I didn't know much...knew a little, but not enough and made some mistakes. I've learned a lot along the way and patience is one of those things.

"...quality has no fear of time."
Not sure who said it, but it's a favorite quote.
