I just figured I'd post this up on here to see if anyone is interested.

I've been setting up this very loosely organized roadtrip for 2 years now, just to hold a lot of us in the northeast over, until the Hot Rod Power Tour can come back this way. The trip goes for three days, with two night's stay in different areas. The first year it had about 15-20 people from four states, and last year it grew to over 40 people from six different states and Canada. This year I already know we have people coming from more different states.

It has had everything from old streetrods, to brand new musclecars. It's mainly about meeting cool people, seeing the sites that the northeast has to offer during foliage season, and of course driving our cars instead of just sitting in a parking lot at a carshow somewhere.

The biggest difference between us and the major organized events, is that we have no formal registration fees, it's much smaller and more manageable, we try to cruise on secondary highways as much as possible, so that we aren't just cruising with the masses on boring interstates, so we get to see more of what nature has to offer while cruising at a laidback pace, and this is all about the people, not about trying to make money.

This year it will be kicking off on Saturday morning Oct 3, at Competition Specialties http://www.competition-specialties.com/home.html, in Walpole, MA. It is basically going to be a MA to NY trip. We will mainly be cruising though the Catskill and Adirondack mountain ranges, with possibly a couple of cool auto related stops inbetween.

This year we have put togther a newer website and forum to get the info out there. It's not much to look at, but it at least it's a great resource for people to get their info, and I won't have to send out a ton of emails to different people, repeating the same stuff over and over, as I have had to do in the past.

the website is http://www.northeastrodrun.com/

If it sounds like something that anyone might have interest in, check out the website, look at some of the pictures from past trips, and sign into the forum. This year, along with past participants, I am hoping to see some new faces.

thanks for reading,

TJ

well Ben, then get your toy roadtrip worthy and have at it this year. If you talk to Pete, he can fill you in on the last couple of year's trips.

While this isn't the be all/end all of road trips, in most people's eyes both years have well exceded expectations, and we have had all good people both years, and to me that is the best part

All the big ones had to start somewhere, it would be cool to get in on it in the early stages. Who knows, I have a perfectly roadworthy car now that might be completely torn apart by then...LOL

As far as the "big ones" go, this has gotten bigger both years, and from the early returns this year, it already has more interest than both the past trips, so who knows how far this thing will go in the future. the first year I really whored it out on quite a few forums, last year I cut back a little, and this year I only posted it on a couple of forums including this one. after the first two trips, it now gets plenty "word of mouth" interest from past participants so I don't have to try as hard anymore. Honestly though, if it grows this year as much as it did last year, I will have to enlist some people to help me next year, but I guess that's a good problem to have, right?

I hear ya about possibly tearing stuff apart, I'd like to take my Camaro again, but last year it sucked on gas and I only got around 8+ MPG for an almost 900 mile round trip. This year I want to at least change my gears (from 3:73 to 3:42) to help a little, or ideally get around to putting in my 700R4 that's been kicking around for over a year now. At least if I don't get to either thing, I always have my GTO that can bang out over 20 MPG all day long

didn't you upset enough people with "fast" cars last year, when they couldn't figure out why they were getting dusted by a "stock" Vette?:_paranoid

We've got our discounted room rates for the first night's stay, so people started booking those rooms this week.

Working on getting rates for Sunday's lodging now

just wanted to throw out a little update.

both night's lodging details are finally up on the Rod Run's website/forum. At this time, we were only able to get a limited number of discounted rooms at both places, and only for a limited time. Not saying that we can't get more if needed, but also not saying that we can get them either, so if you plan on going and want to stay with the group, it's best to book now.

the website also has been updated a little this week so it looks a little more "professional":willy: still working on more updates to the site, but when you don't know anything about websites, it takes extra long to get things done.

I was just looking at the Power Tour picture thread and it made me think of this trip, so I figured I'd bring the thread back up to the top. I guess I should go onto the Rod Run's website and forum and put some updates in there also

Again, this is nothing big. It's just about a bunch of guys getting together for a 3 day weekend of some nice cruising around together, on some cool roads throughout the northeast.

I think right now we are around 20 hotel rooms booked at each night's stop

Just a quick update.

Within the next week or so, everyone that is going will be getting the final route and directions emailed to them.

I am also trying to work out discount tickets for the museum on Sunday.

See eveyone in about 6 weeks!!!!

Well, with only about a week and a half to go before we kickoff, it looks like we should have over 30 cars this year. :woot:

A few people still don't have their cars ready yet (myself included), but everyone is confident that they will be all set come that Saturday.

Now all that is left, is to hope for good weather and for everyone's cars to run well

Well, we got back on Monday the 4th and for the third year in a row, the trip went great.

People started arriving at Comp Specialties on Saturday morning at around 9AM and Pete Newell was there to greet everyone with coffee and donuts. After people got to check out his latest projects we hit the road. The trip was around eight to nine hundred miles round trip.

There were a few breakdowns, but nothing that had anyone going on a trailer. The only real bump in the road was at the hotel on Sunday morning. We were trying to get a shot of all the cars, but before we could totally set-up the hotel manager got pissed:willy: from all the burnouts so he called the cops. We took off before they got there :_paranoid but I guess a local and two staties showed up

The midday stop, on Sunday, at the Northeast Classic Car Museum was pretty cool. The Adirondacks were starting to show some great color and we couldn't have asked for better roads to cruise along (a good amount of twisties).

All said and done, it was some great cruising, great weather, great sites, with great people for the entire weekend.

There are plenty of pics on the Rod Run's Facebook page, with many more to come and I still have to update the website. If I get some time soon, I'll try to post up some pics on here.

Next year..... cruising through New England and Bar Harbor, ME will be one of the highlights. Maybe next year we'll have a few more local people from Lateral-G.
