Awesome work. I'm not sure if you already mentioned it but are you doing all this extra fab work because of the lower than normal ride height your going for or did it need to be done. I've got a full track time kit from Speedtech yet to fit to my 69 Camaro and would like stance like your going to have.
Cheers

Luke, sorry for the delayed response. Fab 53 is doing this extra work on the setup due to the desired stance I like. In order to have the car sit as low as I like, and to have the suspension fully functional (articulation, travel, etc), the large amount of Fab work was necessary. You will really love your Speedtech kit---I have the road assault kit on the front of mine and it works killer.

Kinda wonder about the quality assurance at Speedway Engineering when both seals leak badly on a simple drive around the block after install. Is that the first setup they ever sold? That's got to be very frustrating to both you and Doug, and it's extra money for Doug due to labor costs. Sucks you have to pull the whole rear just to replace some seals. Hopefully we'll see you on the road soon Doug. You mentioned earlier that Ron's Dead Pool '69 has the same rear. Hopefully he doesn't encounter the same issue.

Doug, thanks again for firing up the 1700HP green beast at the Orange County show. You should've been selling clean pairs of underwear next to it. You'd have made a fortune. Un-freakin-real.

I was concerned too Chris and spoke to Doug about it. Outside of Blake's Nova which doesn't have any issues, Doug has one of the very first units. Doug's axles and seals and just a bit different than my set up. Speedway has a good plan I think and the rear should be up and running pretty quick.

Updates from Fab 53

Renner's parts came in and I have been working on putting Stance back together. Thought I would show some of his tricked out exhaust system.

http://i1113.photobucket.com/albums/k514/Fab50Three/Renner%2069%20Camaro/IMG_6157_zpsfe9c24e9.jpg

http://i1113.photobucket.com/albums/k514/Fab50Three/Renner%2069%20Camaro/IMG_6156_zps05fd93cb.jpg

http://i1113.photobucket.com/albums/k514/Fab50Three/Renner%2069%20Camaro/IMG_6159_zps066506ae.jpg

When I did the thrash to get his car up and running for the Labor Day, I did the rear 3" twin side exit exhaust but did not have time to do the front portion correctly (I did a quick hack of his old 2.5" pipes and hammered them to clear). So, on the 2nd go around I have spent some extra time making the rest of the exhaust that he plans on using with his future LS3 and front DSE sub frame conversion.

More updates from Fab 53

http://i1113.photobucket.com/albums/k514/Fab50Three/Renner%2069%20Camaro/IMG_6161_zps8c9a190f.jpg

The main focus for this exhaust is based around the fact that his car sits so slow. I had made the floor channel cut outs to be able to use 3" tubing under the rear passenger floor area.

http://i1113.photobucket.com/albums/k514/Fab50Three/Renner%2069%20Camaro/IMG_6162_zps27b20151.jpg

Up front Doug opted to use the SpinTech oval exhaust tubing. This is the "3 inch oval" which is actually 2.25" tall and 3.5" wide.

http://i1113.photobucket.com/albums/k514/Fab50Three/Renner%2069%20Camaro/IMG_6163_zps81d28681.jpg

http://i1113.photobucket.com/albums/k514/Fab50Three/Renner%2069%20Camaro/IMG_6164_zps27e8132b.jpg

http://i1113.photobucket.com/albums/k514/Fab50Three/Renner%2069%20Camaro/IMG_6169_zps9cae7b72.jpg

With a little extra work, I was able to get this 3" exhaust up high enough to hide it about 1/2" up in the frame rail. Good news for those low speed bump drags... only frame will scrape now. lol:knokwood:

Brett delivered the car on Friday night. I've driven it about an hour straight, then lots of shorter trips in between. I pulled the seats out last night and pulled the console to finally install some gauges in the car along with the new Hurst Blackjack shifter. Got almost everything done today and will post up some pics this week.

Initial driving impressions are outstanding. The car has better corning ability at autocross speeds and is more compliant when pushed. It's a nice noticeable difference. The car feels much more solid at speeds above 40--like it's stuck to the road and is tracking it much nicer than before. The ride is greatly improved with this setup as well. No weird vibrations and the rear end makes no new noises at speed---no whine whatsoever. Brakes are still breaking in so I haven't had the chance to really smash the pedal but will get to that in another week or so. The car sits more than a half inch lower than previously all the way around. I will get some pictures of it this week and post them up. Meant to do that on Saturday but was too involved driving the car and getting used to it again. The exhaust is way, way cool. It's really tame at idle but the motor actually sounds like something once you get going. I'm getting used to it---but like it a bunch so far. Need to get it aligned and ready for the Del Mar autocross coming up over Thanksgiving weekend---that should be a great time and will be a good first test for the car. Hats off to Brett---the work done so far has been top notch and very professionally executed. Couldn't be happier thus far---great, great work in getting it to sit the way I wanted it too. It's great to have it back and to be able to work on it again myself---it's half the fun for me. Thanks again Brett!!

I have a room in my house called the RACE ROOM---it's where I put all my car stuff. I wanted to show you guys the "Parts Wall" portion of the room. Every time I make a change on one of the cars, there are always spare parts left over---these typically make it onto the wall. It's kinda sad actually. lol If you had ever been to a Speed Shops or cool parts store back in the day, they always had parts hanging up on the wall. I always though that was cool.

The new selection of shifters. Bought the Black Jack---it leaked. Hurst sent me another---this one became wall art. The middle one is the White Lightning by AMP---just haven't used it. The Tremec one is the stocker that I just replaced this weekend with the new Black Jack I received.

Thanks for the laugh gents. While it is true that I have been somewhat removed from the activities here, I do check in at least weekly to see what is happening.

I've been studying for the CPA exam which has taken away 3 hours of each day that I really didn't have before--but am making time to do. It doesn't leave a lot on the table for other stuff---but when I do take a break, I always check in here and occasionally on FB.

Car is still moving forward---saving up for the remainder of the big parts to do the LS3/DSE sub frame swap (Auto Rad and Vapor Works). In the meantime, Brett will be seeing the car again to put the mini tubs in it and help me squeeze a bit more tire up front. Once he gets that going, I will hope to post up some pics and get back on the board more once again. I am still driving the car weekly and it gets a lot of street miles. The race car is once again waiting its turn to get to the track. I am hoping by November to be able to have some first passes on it with the new chassis. Still needs a bit more dyno time before it gets there.

Miss this place and the people. Hope to see you boys at SEMA---it will be here before we know it.

Trey, I am picking and responding to your post in Dave's thread. This hasn't been an intentional stall on my part, rather I needed to get my understanding clear as well. The community here is important to me also, but these types of things aren't always easy to explain--and the folks involved have their own interpetations. I sometimes wrestle with what's appropriate to share in situations like this since I ascribe to the notion of "Do unto others as you want done unto you". I want to take the high road of course, and in my case I will just say that Brett got to busy to finish the car up from the work that was done a year ago. I've decided to move on since there is no clear date in the future to finsh up the car. His work was outstanding as the remaining pictures showed, he just has to many other obligations at this time. I haven't heard back from him on why the pics had to come down, but technically, they were his property. I am bummed they are gone, but that is his choice.

I am trying to figure out next steps, and have a couple shops in mind, and wish I wan't in this situation since I came to appreciate and count on Brett and his work, but it is what it is for me at this point.

I will post up pics as soon as I get it to where it's going (most likely in January).

Merry Christmas to all of my bro's here.

Posting an update to my dead thread, because I finally have a legitimate one.

I purchased a motor for the car from a member here, and in typical fashion for me, it was an unbelievable deal. I am still sticking with the one modification at a time plan, and putting the pieces together slowly over time to put in my DSE front subframe--but when I make this mod, I will rewire the car at that time along with a couple other things, including installing the latest acquisition.

And, of course, if it's on an engine stand in the garage, why not pull it apart to check it out.

I wanted to verify parts from the list to ensure crank, cam, rods, pistons, etc all checked out to spec's. Thus far, all is very well internally with the motor--Pistons are Wiseco forged/coated blower specific, rods are legit, etc.. My plan now is to stud the heads and mains here at the house, and give the heads a once over since I may be pulley this motor for some additional boost. This motor had about 400 miles or so on it.

To that end, I pulled the heads and have them over at the FUEL GOD here in So Cal, Bob McCray. He is verifying the previous work done to them; double checking valves are what they are supposed to be from build sheet, porting and bowl work is legit, springs for height, valve job, etc., then do some flow checking for me.

Hopefully I can start putting this back together in the next week or so.

I should take some pics of the stuff I have put together over the past couple of years under this build philosophy. Time for me to post a few more legitimate updates on the progress of the new motor for the car.

So, after I got the heads pulled off, there were several items I decided to upgrade.

Starting with putting in head studs.

I purchased the ARP thread chaser and started in

http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu50/dfresh69/Head%20Stud%20Install/252.jpg (http://s632.photobucket.com/user/dfresh69/media/Head%20Stud%20Install/252.jpg.html)

I followed the process of chasing the threads, pulled the chaser out, blew it off with compressed air, then chased the threads again. Upon the second chase, there was very little material showing up on the chaser. I would then use the compressed air to clean out the threads inside the block, followed by filling up that hole with carb cleaner, letting it sit while I chased the others, then blew it out upon completion, followed by one last chase and blow out. After inspecting each one, they were indeed free from any material.

http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu50/dfresh69/Head%20Stud%20Install/253.jpg (http://s632.photobucket.com/user/dfresh69/media/Head%20Stud%20Install/253.jpg.html)

Below is what the chaser looked like after each first pass. There is some form of factory Loctite or sealer on the stock head bolts. It's crucial per ARP to ensure you have all of this cleaned out before installing the head studs.

http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu50/dfresh69/Head%20Stud%20Install/259.jpg (http://s632.photobucket.com/user/dfresh69/media/Head%20Stud%20Install/259.jpg.html)

http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu50/dfresh69/Head%20Stud%20Install/258.jpg (http://s632.photobucket.com/user/dfresh69/media/Head%20Stud%20Install/258.jpg.html)

After ensuring all was clear, I went ahead and began the actual head stud install. I've got the Part Number here for anyone who decides to do the same.

The kit includes both the small and large studs for each side along with their proprietary assembly lube.

http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu50/dfresh69/Head%20Stud%20Install/256.jpg (http://s632.photobucket.com/user/dfresh69/media/Head%20Stud%20Install/256.jpg.html)

Per the instructions, and just like on the SBC in the race car, just put them in hand tight--but ensure they are run all the way down.

http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu50/dfresh69/Head%20Stud%20Install/257.jpg (http://s632.photobucket.com/user/dfresh69/media/Head%20Stud%20Install/257.jpg.html)

I did a lot of asking, and after speaking with a couple of friends, in addition to several shops--the LS9 GM gaskets were the best choice for me. These are 9 layer MLS type gaskets, which two friends are running right now, respectively, in a 416 TT & and a 427 with a Pro Charger making well over 1200---for more than 2 years. Always nice when you can get real input from folks actually using the stuff you are considering. So, anyways, these went in place.

These are clearly marked in terms of orientation.

So, after inspection, the heads had not been touched in terms of porting, and had a poor valve job done to them.

The good news, they did have Inconel Exhaust Valves and a good set of Manley Valve Springs.

So, I went ahead and had them blown apart for inspection. We blended the bowls, new valve job, changed out the intake valves for some Manley's, and checked the spring heights. One intake was missing the shims under the spring--it's like the builder just forgot about it. Anyways, they are setup now as they should be in my opinion.

http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu50/dfresh69/Head%20Stud%20Install/263.jpg (http://s632.photobucket.com/user/dfresh69/media/Head%20Stud%20Install/263.jpg.html)

Here are couple of shots to show the light bowl blending on both the intake and exhaust ports. These heads flow pretty impressive numbers right out of the gate. With the valve job and bowl blending, we picked up about 30 additional cfm.

http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu50/dfresh69/Head%20Stud%20Install/265.jpg (http://s632.photobucket.com/user/dfresh69/media/Head%20Stud%20Install/265.jpg.html)

Then it was time to get the heads torqued down.

ARP says to put their assembly lube on the threads, both sides of the washers, and the bottom side of each nut.

http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu50/dfresh69/Head%20Stud%20Install/266.jpg (http://s632.photobucket.com/user/dfresh69/media/Head%20Stud%20Install/266.jpg.html)

http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu50/dfresh69/Head%20Stud%20Install/268.jpg (http://s632.photobucket.com/user/dfresh69/media/Head%20Stud%20Install/268.jpg.html)

http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu50/dfresh69/Head%20Stud%20Install/267.jpg (http://s632.photobucket.com/user/dfresh69/media/Head%20Stud%20Install/267.jpg.html)

Once that's done, it's time to start the torque sequence. ARP calls for 80 pds on the large studs and 25 on small ones, done in a series of 3 steps. I started the large studs at 28, then moved to 56, then finally to 80. The smaller, I started at 8, then 16, then finally 25.

http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu50/dfresh69/Head%20Stud%20Install/271.jpg (http://s632.photobucket.com/user/dfresh69/media/Head%20Stud%20Install/271.jpg.html)

Using the following torque sequence obtained from Lingenfelter, I began the process.

http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu50/dfresh69/Head%20Stud%20Install/270.jpg (http://s632.photobucket.com/user/dfresh69/media/Head%20Stud%20Install/270.jpg.html)

http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu50/dfresh69/Head%20Stud%20Install/269.jpg (http://s632.photobucket.com/user/dfresh69/media/Head%20Stud%20Install/269.jpg.html)

http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu50/dfresh69/Head%20Stud%20Install/273.jpg (http://s632.photobucket.com/user/dfresh69/media/Head%20Stud%20Install/273.jpg.html)

And, after about two hours, the finished product.

http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu50/dfresh69/Head%20Stud%20Install/274.jpg (http://s632.photobucket.com/user/dfresh69/media/Head%20Stud%20Install/274.jpg.html)

I hear you on the pics. A couple folks asked me about posting head stud install detail---so I obliged them.

Plan is to get it to engine dyno first. That way, if there's any obvious issues, I can deal with it before motor goes in---plus I know the tuneup in the motor is close at that point--although I know it will need some additional tuning once in the car for drivability, etc. If it's going to leak water or oil, I hope it will do it on the engine stand dyno.

Wanted to show you guys a couple of pics of the Improved Racing Sump and Crank Scraper that I installed in the LS3 oil pan.

I had heard quite a few guys on the vette forum who recommended these for greater oil control for those who were road coursing or frequenting larger auto crosses.

It was 300 bucks, and came with new oil pan gasket, new oil pump ring gasket, the crank scraper, and finally the sump/trap door setup.

Here are a few pics of the install.

Here is the factory windage tray after pulling off the pan and the oil pump pickup tube.

http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu50/dfresh69/New%20Motor%20Sump%20Install/003.jpg (http://s632.photobucket.com/user/dfresh69/media/New%20Motor%20Sump%20Install/003.jpg.html)

Ready for Crank Scraper

http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu50/dfresh69/New%20Motor%20Sump%20Install/004.jpg (http://s632.photobucket.com/user/dfresh69/media/New%20Motor%20Sump%20Install/004.jpg.html)

Drop it over the studs and start measuring for clearance. I.R. calls for .020 to .060 of clearance to the crankshaft. It is clearly marked for orientation, and install is fairly straightforward.

http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu50/dfresh69/New%20Motor%20Sump%20Install/005.jpg (http://s632.photobucket.com/user/dfresh69/media/New%20Motor%20Sump%20Install/005.jpg.html)

Since this motor has aftermarket Crank, Rods & Bolts, I had a fair amount of filing/grinding on the crank scraper to achieve the necessary clearance.
