View Full Version : Another phone "down the drain"

So tonight when I got home I set my cell phone on the bathroom counter. I bet you can already see where this is going. It was set to vibrate mode for incoming calls. Well I got a call and while I was in the other room taking care of my son it "vibrated" it's way right into the toilet. The phone is dead.

It got me thinking of how many phones and other items of value I have dropped in toilets over the years. So far I have lost 2 Nextel phones, 2 personal cell phones, 4 or 5 tape measures, a really nice knife, one wallet with EVERYTHING in it(while out of town for work) and maybe a couple packs of smokes too.
Now before everyone goes off thinking I am a TOTAL idiot (I am only a partial idiot, thank you) these all happened on job sites and involved "Honey Buckets" (of which there is no honey in. Ever.) I have NEVER gone after ANYTHING I dropped in these either. If it falls it is gone. Period. With the exception of the phone tonight. It was MY tiolet and it is VERY clean. I did not want to try and flush it only to have to call a plumber later. I will not be using this phone ever again. It will never be near my face. Ever.

How many of you have dropped items of value in tiolets? List them up.
I already feel totally stupid so now maybe someone can make me feel like I am not the only one to suffer this kind of thing. Then again, maybe I will still feel pretty stupid.

You have penis hands then, you **** everything you touch.
Meh, it doesn't has the same effect that it has in spanish with my friends, it's different :p

Bad news, seriously, what phone was it? Get a Nokia, those ones handle two holocausts, 4 world endings, a fat kid sitting on it, a baseball game and a squirrel with giant nuts.

Man as long as there wasn't any 1 or 2 in the bowl I'd be using it. With cellphone contracts and the prices of new phones WTH. Wipe it down with a Lysol wipe and drop the phone in a bowl of rice, it soaks up the water and the phone should be fine.

Ok,let's be clear on this. THERE WAS NOTHING BUT WATER IN THE BOWL.

I did try to dry it out. It is fried. It will power up but the key pad does not work. And after about 2 minutes the screen goes white. The real bummer is that all of my numbers were saved to the phone and not the sim card. I was able to find an old phone and put the sim card in it so I do have a functioning phone now. Just no numbers to call.

Put it in the oven...I'm serious  I've saved a few phones that way. I live next to a lake and my phone loves to swim.

One more reason to put the lid down when you are done. Maybe you need a bigger bathroom so there is more room between the counter and the toilet.

There is plenty of space. What happened is because of where I set the phone and that it was on vibrate it"moved" to a point right over the top of the toilet paper roll where it fell off the counter, hit the roll and bounced into the toilet. There is no way it would have hit the toilet by just dropping off the edge straight down.
Kind of a bad ricochet of sorts.

Thanks for the info there Steve. I have done most of that and it is still dead. The power was on and it was ringing when it fell in, I am sure everything shorted out.

I am thinking this is funny in the same way a fart is funny to a full grown man. Some things will be funny no matter how old or how educated we are.

I am very happy that I have a good sense of humor because there have been some great replies here at my expense.

But, I am still not getting what I asked for. Has anyone dropped anything of VALUE (no pet snakes or the famous Brown Trout) in the toilet? I have to admit the "bowl cobra" was very funny!!

Thanks Tracy.

I got my new phone yesterday. It's a BlacBerry Curve 8520. It is Wi-Fi ready and now I can talk in my house through my wireless router. We live between three cell towers right in the dead zone and used to have to go out in the driveway to get signal. Now I can talk on it from anywhere in my house and it is just as clear as a land line (if not better). We ditched the home phone a long time ago. Why pay for phone service when 90% of the calls were from solicitors wanting to sell me crap?

I can also check my email and surf the web from anywhere there is standard or Wi Fi signal. This may be old hat for a lot of you but I have always had just basic cell phones and this is a big step up for me. And since I am a total text whore this phone is nice bacause now i can text faster and easier.

I will be sure and keep this one out of the toilet.

Does flushing tons of money on car parts down the toilet count as valuable?

Time to go Drop the Chalupa.

GregWeld
12-26-2009, 09:37 PM
CarlC --

When in the "boating world" -- they'll ask how you know if you're a "real boater" -- the test is to stand in a COLD shower - in nothing but a slicker and boots - and every hour on the hour you step out and flush a $100 bill down the toilet. If you can do this for 24 hours - then you are a "real boater"....

Having "done" a few cars in my short lifetime... This same test can be done to find out if you're a "real" car guy. To pass this test - you have to drive a big block side exhaust mid year Corvette convertible cross country... It can't get more than 6 MPG and you have to take about 9 nine days for this trip.
