Ok ive decided to drive the last nail into the coffin and make my bu unmistakably pro touring... ive found a couple of pics of old nascar malibus and ive come to teh comclusion that the "Charles Libby look" is just what my bu needs... but how do i do it tastefully?
first the inspiration :

then the wheels ive fallen in love with:

and the car they are going on....

flaring the wheelarches would allow me to drop it an additional 2 inches in the font, and 3 in the back, still not nascar low, but much much lower than
the tires would be 315/30-18 in all four corners, on 11x18 wheels centerlug
what do you guys think?

I like it. Then again I am a circle track guy at heart! Go for it. I'm just not sure of the wheels. You might need something different to go with the flares. Get someone to photochop it for you. Good Luck.
I like it too. And I think those wheels will look good on it, unique but good. The arches being flared correctly will be the key. If you do it wrong it might mess up the overall look you are going for.

What wheels are those?
What wheels are those?
ATS pindrive. Check the for sale section for the info. Very cool wheels.

I like it but the fenders & QPs have been cut and flared to get that stance. What about notching your frame in the rear and flaring the QPs to tuck those 315s? Then removing the inner fender wells and redoing the front suspension to get them to tuck in the front. I like where your going with this otherwise. Keep us posted.

Heres what we're doing. Chris Grey of Marquiz Design did the rendering. We are running 315/5015 up front and 325/5015 in the rear on 15x8 and 15x10 Aero Wheels. The flares will be massive. The wheel opening will follow the radius of the tire, however as you can see from the rendering. the original wheel lip '' shape" will be retained along the body so theres no mistaking its still a Nova.

Hmm I like flares but I like it when the quarter/fender is streamline.

Hi,
I just got some 15X8 and 15X10 AERO wheels mounted for another one of my projects. The front tires that I used were 225/45-15 and the rears are Mickey Thompson Sportsman SR which are 26" tall 12 wide on a 15" dia. rim.
They fit perfectly. See Photo. I think with your tire sizes, a 15X10 front and 15X12 rear might be better...

Thanks for info, looks like a cool project. We already mounted tires and they fit fine. I researched wheel /tire fitment first to avoid any problems.

now that is a cool idea... i was wondering how to retain the malibu look, and still make it look racy, i guess it would be a question of rolling some round bar as the lip, and build from the "wheel lip shaped fenderline" to the roundbar... unfortunately i dont have an english wheel or the skill to use it so the fender flare wont be a compound curve.. but the flare in the rendering you guys postet doesnt look compound either....
im suddently alittle in doubt if 15īs wouldnt give it the right look.. what is the handling differenge in a wide 15 compared to a low profile 18... im thinking the 18īs will be the better choice handling wise??

Deuce 454, We are using round bar to create the radius around the tire and building a web of round bar toward the body. Sheet metal will be used to shape the flare at the body with a heavy dose of filler.
As far as tire size is conserned,i think its more a preference. In staying with the " Nascar" theme, 15" wheels were a must. As far as handling goes,my front tires have a 11.5" section width and the rears are 13" wide. Should stick pretty good:unibrow:

What about GNX flares? Could they get you where you need to be? They definitely 'look' proportionally correct on Buicks.... Maybe they'd work on your 'Bu?

Ive defilately thought the thought... I looked at some for a monte, but the wheelarch was totally wrong shape... Ive googled side shots of GNX-es for comparison but i cant really determine how far they are off... also that would retain the stock fenderlip... which would force me to keep the car much higher in ridehright....

Here is one of my daily drivers. I thought you might like to see the "NASCAR" look on a G-body..... We didn't flare the the fenders but the Regals already have somewhat of a flare. We did have to do some inner fender work to get the fronts to tuck. The back is actually lower, it just looks high in the pictures because of the driveway.

I used to run a 80 chevelle in a street stock oval class . 8 inch wheel .
I cut the wheel lips a quarter inch above that top arch and moved them up the fenders and quarters . Made a filler peice between the arch and the fender . It looked good , lots of compliments . Hard to maintain on a stock car racing with a bunch of Cheeshead red necks ( you know who you are ) :D
I got pics , but nothing digital

I really like teh nascar look.. but there is no way to fit a 15 inch wheel on the ATS spindles and C5 corvette brakes... its 17 minimum.... so i thought the center lug wheels weer the ticket.. it looks like the shipping is going to be a killer though.. so i might end up getting some wider outer shells for the forgelines, they are 8.5 and 9.5x18... same BS.. so 4 outers with 4 inch lip will give me 4 18x11 inch rims.. 315x30-18 should work also... or would you go staggered..
i dont understand why i cant sell those darn forgelines??

I also dig the flared wheel well look similar to NASCAR.. have been wanting to do that to my Buick Regal for awhile, on wide 15" ers of course.
These links to threads that I have asking for info on how to do that.
