Hi all,

Does anyone have a source or experience with a good manual on GM EFI systems for the LS family ? I have bought several manuals on EFI and they all are just terrible wanderings through something that most people find difficult to start with. Is there a GM education series manual on their EFI that starts with a well written and illustrated system overview - and then starts moving into the deeper end of the pool ? I have several engine mechanical manuals from the GM school series and they are pretty well done - but a bit thin. I've reviewed and purchased some college and tech school manuals on the topic and they are the standard sloppy college stuff too. (Not looking for something that is written for people in electricity 101 either - just something well structured and with good depth) The factory service manuals are application and config specific like they should be - looking for something to fill the gap for people with experience on efi and electronic control systems. (Maybe the component manufactures have something already out there)

I'm thinking that GM is not wanting to offer much in the way of "helping you" to try to beat their system... LOL

There are LS engine management software programs that you can buy that will allow you to snoop around in their "pool"... but if you want to start to program it - you're going to have to bring big bucks to the table. I think the programing software you can buy is in the $1000's of dollars not hundreds.... which makes it really only available to the commercial guys.

I'm more interested in the fundamentals of how the system functions, the interfaces, the sensors and servos, the types of look-up tables used, how the system detects malfunction/trouble and then provides that data for troubleshooting via some user interface. Wasn't looking at how to program or modify a system - just get a really good understanding on how they operate.

I worked at Ford for a while back in the early 80's and received some very good training like that described above on their EEC 4 systems in use at the time. Just looking for the same kinda deal covering the LS series. In aviation we also get the same info for autoflight systems and EEC's for fly-by-wire engine control.

PS, what got me wondering about this was the post yesterday with you and Jody - and I started thinking that I really have no working knowledge about the LS control system these days. I soaked it up best I could...

The App will "run" in DEMO mode IF your Laptop/PC is equipped with a serial port.

I am sure that MOST other providers will do the same to promote their product.

No Problem..was invaluable when I first started tuning..

The document is Factory Training Notes for Holden Techs when the LS1 was first released back in 99 in our VT Commodores.Holden being a subsidary of GM

I believe there is an equivelant document in the US ...I think I have seen it on Ebay....
You can also check out AC Delco website..it has several docs realted to Engine and Trans codes which layout the conditions required for fault codes to occur..very helpful.

You can also download EFI LIVE as a demo....HP Tuners help file is also very good ,has detailed descriptions of tables and their functions.
