the lights are going in my 68 valance.do you guys just cut a hole and mount the lights behind it or did you build a pod so to speak for it to sit in?thanks

You could graft a set of light buckets from a 69 re-pop valance.
Try searching on 68 valance lights....

Ron's idea would be the way to go - you definitely want some kind of finished lip around the hole for the cutout instead of a sharp edge. The 69 opening would be perfect as it is identical to the profile of the lights.
The inner edge of the lip then gives you a surface to make a couple of mounting tabs for the lights.
