Pics soon to come hopefully. As of now i've fully insulated the inside to reduce noise. LT1 and T56 is installed and i hooked up all the wiring today (done by LT1350.com at a VERY good price). Headers are on, new plugs and wires. Need to install the bracket for the T56 hydraulics from the install kit. Should be driving it in a week or so. Need to finish up the tank (working on making sure the gauge is going to read right) and need to make the fuel lines.

I'll try and snap a few pics today and get them up so i can show you guys. Here are a few interior pics I have (nothing great but atleast something to look at). I'm trying to get the plate to work for the T56 swap but it doesn't want to let the hydraulic cylinder for the clutch assy to pass through the firewall. It seems to be getting hung up and wont go through. I'll work on that more today. Also we figured out how i'm going to make the tank work so that's no problem. Getting the fuel lines early in the week and picking up my 12 bolt rear with 4.1's posi and axles. Dash should be coming out soon to install the ultralite speedo and tach. I need to call the wiring guy back because there are a few plugs that i dont seem to have a home for (cant find the plugin) so i'll call him and ask him where they go.

The old shifter holes have a plate that cover them so dont worry about all the holes (factory one, one with the super t-10 setup and now, alot further back, the T56 shifter hole)

Here is an old pic of the engine, there is alot more done now (headers are on, plugs/wires changed, all wiring done, etc...)

Looking good; can't wait to see more of the car, William.

What brand sound deadener are you using, and is the LT-1 stock?

The thermal insulation is called Wrap on Water Heater insulation, which is a water heater insulator that a few friends i have are using (available at harware stores i got mine at westlake ACE hardware for 17 bucks for 1 x 36 foot roll). We used 3 rolls of that stuff then went on to use 4 sq yards of jute under the carpet (10 bucks a yard). All comes out to be a good bit cheaper than dynamat and it should do more than well enough for my application. I cut aluminum patches to cover the gaps to the trunk behind the rear seat, siliconed them into place as a temporary thing (didn't want anythign permanent because i might do something different down the road).
**Note: Girlfriend did most the interior insulation, i just cut the aluminum, she laid 95% of the wrap on and jute**(She is now, and i mean right now, under the car putting my O2 sesors in place)
Working now on the hydraulic T56 bracket still and i've almost got that in place.

The LT1 is stock for now with VERY few mods which include, no Cats, no EGR, AIR, or EVAP stuff, TB bypass, headers, CAI, Plugs and wires and true dual 2 1/2 in exhaust. More stuff in the future but for now it's just a driver.

You know LS1's are bad-ass and all but I still like the asthetics of the LT1 better as they have a bit more straight lines and sharp edges. Car looks great Will and congrats on having a car girlfriend...nice isn't it? :D

LOL I dont know if she's a keeper...She's a Ford Girl...

HAHA

Yea definitly a keeper. O2's are in place thanks to her, interior is in thanks to her, driverside header is in thanks to her, brake pedal rod was lengthened (hands to big to get to the retaining clip) thanks to her, shifter hole cut thanks to her...dad, More i'm sure.

No new pics yet, today was spent working on the console with gauges...I'm not that impressed with the gauge works console gauge pod...It looks warped to me (bowed in the center). Also using the engine harness from the LT1 do i need to install the senders for the water temp and oil pressure or can i put it on the factory wiring for the sensor? I know what wires go where because the place that did my wiring labled them but will that work for my application?

Thanks,
William

Things are looking good, better keep us updated with more pics. And I am seriously impressed with your girlfriend getting in and doing all that, and her Dad helps! Wow.

Yep, her dad has loaned alot of tools that i cant find in my mess of a garage! She does most the work on my car, i just do the things that she cant. I promise i'll take pics today and see if i can get them hosted so i can post them up for you guys to see. Trying to find a place to mount the computer for the LT1 so the wires will look nice and not look crappy in the engine bay. On the T56 clutch pedal, i have a little plate with a bend in it and a hole in the end. Do i weld that onto the clutch higher than the two holes that already exist to try and get that rod for the slave cylinder as straight as possible?

Also a friend came by to pick up a few parts and he dropped off an intake elbow including the sensor that i was missing on mine so all i need is a filter for the air intake!

William

p.s. Updates later on today.

As promised i have more pics but i'm still looking for a place to host them. My friend that hosts all my stuff isn't answering his messages.

I will post them A.S.A.P.

Today we got the rear view mirror from the 94 camaro mounted and power wires run. I installed all the sending units for my autometer gauges i have so far. Installed the air box and measured the driveshaft for new length. Driveshaft will hopefully be finished tomorrow, i'll call about the rearend again tomorrow and hear more about it, i'll get the fuel lines and hopefully get this gas tank in already...Then hook up the power and see if she starts. If it does then the front will go back on and the quest begins for a fan.

Your camaro looks sweet will, keep up the great work. Did you ever end up getting that bird? ;)

will69camaro
01-04-2005, 01:55 AM
I had to give up on the 'bird...I decided maybe i should get mine going and worry about another project later on down the road when i'm out of school and can afford to do it justice...The bird ended up selling for 600 cash too (71 firebird, 350/auto all original).

Thanks for the compliments on the car, i like this site as well as pro-touring.com. I really am enjoying the people i've delt with, everyone i've called has been more than willing to answer any and all of my questions.

Thanks guys!

William, you can upload pics here on the forum, but they will be temporary as I prune uploaded attachments after a month or two. Feel free to use this feature. :)

BTW, the size limit is 1024x768 and 150k per image and you can only upload 3 images per post. If you have more than 3, you will just have to make multiple posts.

I'll snap more pics when it's all back together, i am goign to get a photoshoot together where she poses with my car...I had to go pants shopping today for all the hard work she's been putting into my car. She doesn't like shopping either though so it went quickly.

Well been a little bit since my last post on this. I got the belt system figured out i think, dash is out for new gauges when i buy them, wiring will be in tomorrow (most of it anyway). Might be test firing it tomorrow and if it all goes well then i'll put the front back on the car and set the radiator in and see what i need to do about hoses...I will let you know if/when i test fire it, fuel lines are run, still need to finish up the send line with an inline filter, and the tank is in the car (had to cut a hole in my trunk for the pump but it will make for easy replacement. Lots of stuff has been accomplished but no new pics yet, we've been working too hard to stop and take pics...We're just now coming inside from my unheated garage after flushing the T56 and puting in new fluid. Clutch pedal is in and i need to make a stop but we will do that tomorrow, and i had the slave cylinder modified and it works, little sweep but not terrible and i think it will work. We have the gas pedal and throttle cable in and it seems to work...I had to "massage" the floor a little where it was interfering (sp) and only letting me open the throttle about 1/3 full throttle. The shifter i'm using for now is the shift handle from the hurst competition 4sp shifter...little tall but it will work until i make my own when i'm back at school and have the shop at my disposal.

Anyway enough rambling for now i'm sure it's been hard enough to follow but i'm going on little sleep and bordering the line between insomnia and physical exhaustion...maybe i'll sleep.

Thanks for reading and following up on my progress thread.

I'll post pics soon.

Sorry for the delay in pics but i will post them when i'm back at school in the next couple days...I failed...I tried to do the entire swap and we even took a few short cuts on wiring (crimped when we should have soldered and crimped) which will be fixed in the next few weeks...Tried to start the car today only to find either the connection to the starter is bad or the starter itself went bad...It will start tomorrow and be driven around some but not alot...I should be driving it by spring break but my goal was to drive it back to school when the break was over and that was not accomplished...I need to set more realistic goals for myself.

Thanks for following guys. Pics to come.

Well we did start it a couple hours before we left for Texas A&M. Nothing like cutting it close. It needs a few things sorted out (injectors are bad) but it did start. It idled right away and it ran until i shut it off. Only was firing on a few cylinders (4 maybe 5 at most). It will be sorted out and the car will be going shortly.

Thanks for the response! I have a new (used but working) set of 24lb injectors coming for it so it should be running better soon. Also i'm getting pics of a power steering delete pulley that a guy has made so i should have the belts fixed soon too. Almost finished but still not quite done yet!

Who made those fuel lines for you?

I am very interested in a set like that at the fuel rail.

Thanks!

Here is an idea for you on the air cleaner.

Get a section of 3.5" tube to run from the MAF to the edge of the driver fender well. Get some aluminum and make a close out plate to drop down from the fender lip, run off the edge of the core support, and basically close off the large open hole there that allows you to see the back side of the driver marker lamp when looking in the engine bay.

Bore a 3.5" hole in the plate you made and put a cone filter on the back. You can fit a 6" long filter in there. Summit sells them for like $29.95. You can get the hump hoses almost anywhere to go from the MAF to the tube, then the airfilter will have its own clamp, etc.

This will allow it to suck cold air from behind the driver headlight and you won't see the filter when the hood is open.

will69camaro
02-27-2005, 01:05 PM
Thanks for the idea about the filter but we had already thought of that! That's been my plan for a while now, to put the filter in the area behind the driverside headlight.

Oh and about the fuel lines. I had my friend at a machine shop heat and bend the lines from the fuel rails up to clear the engine then i bought LOTS of 21 Bar oil and gas safe hydraluic line and ran a soft line from the tank to the intake using the factory hard line locations for the new clamps.

Where did you get the connectors to go from the fuel rails to the pressure hose? Why kind of tool or method did you use to crimp them?

will69camaro
02-27-2005, 01:59 PM
The friend that bent them welded on a -6 fitting. The connectors on the hose are press in high pressure -6 fittings as well.
