Sorry for the new thread, just thought everyone should see how bad people can be. This makes me sick...
Not sure where we stand on getting it back or possibly rebuilding it...but it's looking grim.

Damn those lowlife people.
I am really sorry and it must be heartbreaking to find it like that.

Sorry to hear of this Kris. I know to a certain extent how you must feel, although they did not steal my truck, they did steal alot of things out of it & damaged it extensivley. Makes you feel so viloated.
Hopefully the saying comes true, "What comes around goes around", & they'll get theirs in the end!

That sucks!!! Are you keeping an eye on ebay for the parts? Perhaps they will be too lasy to primer the fenders before listing them and you can catch them!
My best friend is a cop here in Oregon and he told me at least one car is stole every day...that's pretty bad considering we don't really live in that bad of an area!
The problem with cars like we build on this site is that even though we may have them insured for a lot of money...you just can't replace the memories and labor involved. I know I would be heart broke if my car was taken, even right now, it represents my first attempt at a lot of different areas of car building and I hope this one will never be for sale as I have plans of giving it to my son one day.
I truely hope you and your father don't get the short end of the stick on this one!!! From looking at the pics it does look rebuildable though, after all, the memories are with THIS car, try to think positive and get it back on the street again!

that's rough man.... but at least they were neat about it, used wrenches and stuff, instead of a crowbar, cutting torch, and brute force. You can fix it.
The very first new car I ever bought was stolen, the second week I had it, with 362 miles on the clock. it was an 86 monte SS, same dash as your elky. Did you know the fastest way to remove the radio in that dash is to grab the lower corners and pull? The foam dash rips, whole thing pulls right off.

Kris,
I also think in the future the elky would be a serious sema project.. :hail:
It looks like the rear and side's bed are ok..If there was serious damage to
those areas, then i would consider it a loss.not like you can't get those parts
but allot of time and body work would be costly.
I was thinking of looking at your pictures and not being able to recognize
what it was,or was left, not really to bad..Sure its bad timing right now,but
your a car builder..and a dam good one! Nothing will stop you and the elco
will be better than it ever was. Keep that perspective.
Again, sorry for the loss, but thank you for pointing out that our projects
should not be overlooked and there vulnerable anywhere we go..And this
could happen too any of us at anytime.
I have heard of a guy going to power tour..checking in the hotel, parking his
pride and joy getting up the next morning and its gone!! ALL,along with the
trailer it was parked in and the truck it was towed with!! :(
I hope it all works out for you guys kris..

I thought about something today.
This must have been a ordered job, someone has a similar car that has been hit in the front and they needed replacement parts.
Tell the police to check accident reports that involve a El Camino or Chevelle that has smashed the front. Probably ran into someones back. Couldn't be to hard to find in their records.
Just a thought that might help.

WOW I read the other thread and last I heard it was possibly getting overhauled. Dang that makes me sick too. Right out of your work parking lot too? Thats just unbelievalbe and you had it locked!! Doesnt your work have video cameras??
Luckily insurance should cover most of that. Just not the blood sweat and tears invloved in creating it the first time.

That's pretty good thinkg Jan. Get a copy of the police report and find out who was driving the Elco/Chevelle, post the address and time/date that you want everybody to go over and kick his @ss.

My dad's picking it up today. It hasn't been totaled by the insurance yet, but they said we could pick it up and they'd send an adjuster to their house to decide.
My dad and I talked it over and we want to give this car a happy ending, so we're going to start going over a list of what needs to be done and what we'd like to do.
We both think that if someone would have it at their booth, that we'll try for SEMA next year. It will make the rebuild a bit easier on our finances due to the possibility of sponsorships. I would love to redo the suspension and drop a LSx motor in it since the thieves stole all of the original smog components too.
I'll keep everyone posted on what we do next. Let's hope everything works out for the best.
