Well, after a couple of requests, I decided to start a thread on the second round of my 68 Camaro build. Here's a little bit of history on the car.
I found this car while riding the school bus when I was in the fifth grade (1988 time frame). My dad bought it for $2500 and drove it home. He started with the engine compartment and got burnt out pretty quick with the restoration. When I turned 13, he told me that I could have the car if I put the rest of the money and work into it. I worked for him at his business saving every penny, literally, that I earned. I paid $1000 to get the body work done, and he helped me out with the paint job for my 15th birthday. So after 15 years, I decided to give it the PT form, fit, and function.
I've been working on it for about a year and a half now, so it will take me a couple of weeks to get this thread up to speed with where the car currently is in the build.
To start, here's a couple of pictures of what the car looked like before I decided to start tearing into it.

And here's my rendering that Carter just finished. The color will be the same as before.

This car was supposed to be pretty solid, and it really was (to most people), but I wanted to really focus in on the details while going through it. Honestly, it wasn't supposed to snowball into what it has, but that's what has made this whole build fun and educational since I'm doing most all the work myself.
The project was supposed to be focused mainly on budget suspension upgrades, wheels, brakes, clean undercarriage, and slight interior mods...YEAH, RIGHT! Then I found the Lateral-g site, and the snowball began. There were two cars that really inspired my build. It started with Greg Banks (BeCool68) and his 68 Camaro along with Anthony Rose's Camaro. I didn't want anything too flashy, just a killer stance with killer wheels.
Anyway, let's dive into the build/restoration. Here's a few pictures of the disassembly from night #1. I found a few surprises on the floor that I didn't expect.

After seeing this, I ordered a patch panels for the floors and center trunk section. I sent the car off to body work to have the driver side quarter, roof skin, rear deck filler panel, and DSE tubs installed. When replacing these pieces, I found some rust on the passenger side sail panel area from an old vinyl top. Here's where my learning curve started.
I had heard nightmares about the passenger side quarter panel fitment on the 68 quarters, so I decided to just patch the sail panel area. The problem is that I had to buy a full quarter panel for this task.
Here's a few pictures of the first phase of bodywork.

Here's where the fun begins...
I dropped the car off on July 9, 2007 and was told I would have the car back in roughly 6 weeks. Finally, in December 2007, I told the body man that I was coming to pick it up the first weekend in January 2008. He never got to the tubs. I get the car home and find additional rust in the trunk area that the patch panel I bought wouldn't cover, so I opted to buy a full trunk pan. Since I wasn't patching the trunk, I decided not to patch the floors, so I bought a full one piece floor pan.
You can start to see a pattern here, huh?
I also found where bodywork had been done on the passenger side quarter, and since I was installing the full trunk pan, I decided to buy yet ANOTHER passenger side quarter. Here's a few pictures of the quarter.

I'll skip a few steps and jump right into the trunk pan replacement. I removed the exisitng trunk pan and media blasted everything, then sealed all exposed areas with epoxy primer.

Thanks. I bought the roof skin from NPD and all other metal from CPU Muscle Car Parts. The quarters are made by Golden Legion, and I think the trunk and floor are made by Dynacorn.

Alright, here come the DSE tubs. I was extremely nervous about this portion since I'm a novice at all this stuff, but I figure there's only one way to learn, huh? Plus, there's not any well known resto shops in South Louisiana that I've found.

Okay, now I want to open up the floor for discussion. I've been fighting the fitment of the driver side tub. It appears to be leaning in towards the wheel well. I notched the trunk 2-3/4" like DSE said and was very careful when cutting. Does this look abnormal, or is it just me?

The inner wheel houses are supposed to cant inward a little. Can't say they look right from just a pic. My guy that did minitubs on my 67' pointed out to me that he made sure they were "still tilted in like stock"
Pro body guys will use alot of X braces & support rods to stabilize the body while its all chopped up. I hope you have been doing all that to keep it measuring square. I very much admire your bravery to take on such a task!
My car got NOS quarters & tail panel & I was not up to try it.

I used X-bracing over the back seat area and welded bracing from my rockers to my body cart. I was really nervous about the floor removal, but I measured everything good before I cut it out, and again after it was fully removed and nothing moved. I also welded bracing at the front of the rear frame rails and attached them to the cart along with bracing at the rear of the frame rails. We'll see when she's all put back together, but as of now, it looks good.

I did call DSE and they said it looked okay and to weld it, but I knew it wasn't right, so I didn't.
I actually found my problem today. The front closeout panel (where the shock tower was) was too far in. I removed it and trimmed about 3/16" back and rewelded it. She's dead on now!

Tulip Panel Removal:

http://memimage.cardomain.com/ride_images/2/4568/2281/23918640120_large.jpg
I didn't plan on replacing the driver side tulip panel, but during media blasting of the front of the car, rust holes opened up, so I removed it. Since it took me about 2 hours to get the sand out of the car, I decided not to roll it back out to blast this one area, so I used Rust Fix (Dupli-Color product) over the rusted areas. I sanded the best I could and sprayed it in there. It turns that black color you see in the picture. Then, I epoxy primed everything that had been blasted. The upper cowl has rust holes under the windshield washer opening, so I'll be replacing it as well.

Floor Pan Removal and Prep:
I removed the floor and decided to reuse the existing torque boxes since they still had the original galvanized coating on them. I ended up sanding everything and epoxy sealing before the new pan went in. Before removal, I added some "L" brackets to locate the rear subframe mounts in the floor pan. These not only locate the holes, but it also helps set the height of the pan to the original.

Floor Pan Installed:
What a nice piece. After installing this thing, I just kicked back and stared at it for a while. I decided to sand and prime the top side before I installed it. The bottom side will be done when the car gets put on the rotisserie. I refuse to lay on my back and work the underside! It was bad enough welding under there.

It's been several weeks since I made any progress on the car, so after a pep talk with wife earlier this week, she got me motivated to get back out in the shop and get moving again. So after trial fitting the passenger side quarter, outer wheel house, and tail panel about 10 times, I decided to go ahead and weld the tub and outer wheelhouse in the car. I also modified the trunk hinge support brackets and got them fitted and ready to weld. Today, I epoxy primed the entire trunk area and the outer wheel house. Here's a few pictures. Quarter panel and tail panel installation is on the agenda next.

You'd fire me because I take too long!
So far, the passenger side looks like it fits pretty good. I did have to weld a small piece of metal where the rocker and wheel house opening meet, but other than that it's pretty decent. The wheel lip sucks, but since I'll be trimming the lips for 335's, I didn't worry about it. The lip varies from 5/8" - 1-1/8" wide. Oh, and the trunk gutter area needs to be completely rebuilt b/c the stamping in that area was pathetic. I've followed a lot of quarter installations, and everything I've heard about the passenger side quarter, I've seen first hand with mine.
I'll post a few pictures of the problem areas as I go through the installation. Maybe it will help other "Do It Yourselfers" like me.

Well, it's been way too long since I've made any progres on the car, so I decided to get cranked up again. I finally got the tail panel and passenger side quarter fit and screwed into place over the weekend. After I got into place, I pulled them off and sanded the inner side of both panels and prepped for epoxy primer. Tonight, I shot a coat of primer on both panels. Tomorrow, I'll tape of the areas that will be plug welded and undercoat the rest. More pictures tomorrow hopefully. Here's a few from tonight.

It's not as bad as it looks. Well, it is, but easily achievable with some patience and common sense. Trust me, I can't believe I've done as much as I have. I would have loved to drop it off to someone to have all this done, but I just didn't have the money for that.
I hope it turns out nice, too! Still a ways to go, but the light is starting to shine a little bit.

I was nervous about doing it myself, but after trying to find a bodyman that showed interest in this type of work, I gave up looking and decided to become that bodyman myself. The first guy that replaced the driver's side quarter, roof skin, and rear deck filler panel took 6 months for those three pieces. I had wanted him to do the tubs as well, but I got tired of waiting and went and picked up the car. I guess it was a blessing in disguise the way it happened, because I found so much more than I had originally anticipated once I got it back home.
Trust me, it's really not hard. Just keep fitting and tweaking until it can't get any better, then weld her up! It's more intimidating than anything for us rookies!

I got the lower cowl and the outer tulip shells welded on on Labor Day. I just need to grind welds and sand the lower cowl then shoot a coat of epoxy primer on everything. I do plan to spray a rock guard type product inside the lower cowl and the tulip panels before I weld the outer tulip shells on. That should keep corrosion away at least while I'm still alive!

Nope. Everything is pretty much new. The front fenders are original, the firewall is original, rockers are original, frame rails, lower inner valnce behind the tail panel, and all the main structure was untouched. She's better than she was in 1968!!!

I forgot to post a photo of the cowl jig I built for aligning the new cowl to the original cowl's location. I'm sure it can designed a million different ways, but here's what I did.
It uses the six fender bolt locations for alignment. It really took the guess work out of the replacement. Remove the old cowl, put the new one in place, and then bolt the jig to the fender bolt locations located on the door jamb areas. This locates the jig left and right. Then I just used the other four holes in the cowl and bolted the jig to them. This aligns the the cowl front to back and side to side. This ensured the bolt hole locations in the new cowl were in the same spot as the original.
This may help someone else doing the same replacement.

If you're cutting all the metal off, and plan to haul it somewhere for metal replacement, I personally would build a body cart to put the car on and then brace the heck out of it. I even used 1" square tubing and welded from my cart to the rockers. Basically, my car is welded to the cart in 4 places (I think). You're gonna need to brace the heck out of it if you plan to move it. Call me anytime after 5:00pm CST. I'd be happy to talk to you about my learnings through this process. If you need my number, PM me.

Minimal progress since the last update, but it's progress. Been kinda bummed since the fiasco with my Fikse wheels. Since the last update I've accomplished the following.
* Trimmed the quarter lips for the 335's.
* Removed the body filler from the previous body work (that I paid to have done) only to find that the driver side quarter to roof skin seam had not been welded solid. So, I welded it solid. I also found that the roof skin was not welded to the windshield pillars, so I had to fix that too!
* Welded up the seams where the deck lid filler panel and quarter panels meet.
* Welded in the trunk latch bracket in the trunk.
* Installed the weatherstrip gutters.
* Had some major pitting in the passenger side a-pillar, so I had to cut out a section and weld a patch piece in.
* Stripped the shell down to bare metal and sealed it with DP primer.
Here's a few photos.

That's right. I dropped my car off to a body man in July of 2007 to have the driver side quarter and outer wheel house, roof skin, deck lid filler panel and DSE tubs installed. He quoted me 3-4 weeks for the work, I gave him 8 weeks in the back of my mind. In January 2008, I had enough and went to pick the car up partially done. He had completed everything except the tubs and it took 6 months.
The funny thing was two weeks ago, when I stripped the primer from his work, I found that the EDP primer had not been removed from the new panels he installed. I specifically asked that it be done too. Once I saw that, I decided to strip the body filler off too. That's when I found the seams not welded. Oh well, it's just money down the drain, I guess. I have learned a new skill since then, though...BODY WORK.
Not sure on wheels yet. I want a step lip design and an 11.5" rear wheel, so that limits my choices to a select few since I have to go with a 3 piece wheel to achieve the 11.5" width for the rear. Maybe Forgeline or HRE. I'm gonna concentrate on the body work, undercarriage, and front suspension, then decide on wheels.

Chris --
That is sad.... really.
You wanna know why I built my "shed"? Because I got sick and tired of taking my cars to people - paying big bills - and then bringing them home and doing the work over... So here was the thought process. IF I'm going to pay big bills for work to be done over... then I'll TRY to do the work myself.. THEN if I can't get it done - I will hire someone to come to MY shed to help out... it has to cost less - since I should be able to do a lot of it "right". I'm having fun learning and building skills... and so far I've only had professional help a couple of times, and received one job offer from the pro that liked my work!
After doing or re-doing 3 or 4 cars since I built it... and helping out many buddies with their stuff... I've come to the conclusion that A: it isn't hard B: the only reason things don't get done in a reasonable amount of time is because nobody worked on it.
Your car is looking great! You should be proud...

I had ZERO experience with body work or metal replacement. Thanks to the forums, I was able to follow other peoples builds and ask millions of questions. It's funny thinking back on it. It took me 2 weeks before I got up enough nerve to make my first weld on the trunk pan. This, obviously, was due to nerves and lack of experience.

Thanks. Yeah, my wife is extremely supportive. She's pushing me to hurry up so she can ride in it, but we have a 3 year old son, and I feel guilty when I spend too much time in the shop and not with him. I usually wait for him to go to bed and then slip out to the shop for a couple of hours.
I figure it will be finished by the time he graduates high school!
Don't feel bad. I have a 5 year old and I go through the same thing. In the house with him or in the garage without? I usually end up inside with him.
Which makes us both happy.

Just have patience and think your way through it. Always think two or three steps ahead of what you're doing and don't worry about screwing up because you WILL. Remember, a cut off tool, grinder, hammer, dolly, and welding machine can fix anything on the car so don't be scared about screwing something up.
Also, do your homework on the reproduction panels. Some fit better than others. Certain panels (no matter which brand) have certain issues that will need to be addressed. It's better to know these things before you weld them on. Finally, just fit the panels until they can't fit any better and then weld them up. It's really not as bad as it looks. It just takes time and patience...oh and money! Good Luck.

Awesome man, I have been telling my wife I need to get a cut off wheel. My car was actually hit on the left quarter panel and the floor is tweaked. I think my first step is going to be getting my car on a frame machine to make sure it is straight. Then I need to replace the floor, and do some rocker work. I am trying to keep mine drivable. I am pretty sure my left frame rail is going to need some straightening and rust repair as well. Keep the updates coming. I may have to ask you questions from time to time.

Just to be sure -- not ONE cut off saw... SEVERAL! You'll use them in various situations - so you need straight - 90* - a body saw is helpful too... and LOTS of blades for it... two or three different grinders help too... so all in all - about a dozen should just about get 'er done!!
Merry Xmas. I buy new ones for my wife every year... She doesn't use them much so she let's my borrow 'em.

Thanks for clearing that up Greg! You're absolutely right.
I went to Harbor Freight and bought a 4-1/2" electric grinder, a die grinder, and a 1/4" angle grinder before I started my build. I have about $40 including tax in all three tools. My 1/4" angle grinder started making some pretty nasty sounds yesterday, so I guess it's time to trash it. Not a bad investment for $15...it built most of my car before biting the dust. I really want to see it fly apart before I throw it away! It sounds REAAAALY nasty.
I do suggest a good compressor before starting all this. I had a smaller horizontal 5hp compressor, but it couldn't keep up with the air tools. I ended up buying a 2-stage 5hp 80 gallon compressor from Sears and haven't looked back.

You can never have too big of a compressor!
:>)
I have Snap-On die grinders - and I have everything in between - including Harbor Freight versions... I agree with you - they've gotten so cheap - you buy a couple and toss 'em when they go bad. While I prefer, by far, to buy American - it's hard to justify a Snap-On cut off tool when the junk versions work just as well.
Once you get a good compressor - then all your tools go air... drills - grinders - dimple dies... then you have to convert your engine hoist to air... and your tranny jack... Next thing you know - you're blowing the floor clean instead of using a broom...

Thanks. I took off from work next week, so if the moon and stars align properly, I should have more photos next week. Hopefully, I can get the front subframe back under it, and maybe even start the subframe connector install. But, of course, life always gets in the way.

Nice build! Makes mewant to start on my 67' camaro. I plan on doing the same mods. How you liking the DP 90? I love the stuff. I reduce it 10% when I spray and it takes most of the orange peel out of it. I like how you sprayed the inside of the quarter before you hung it. Thanks for the pics!! On the Harbor frieght tools..I bought a warranty once just to see if it worked..I wore out an electric grinder and they replaced it twice for free!

It's coming, but slowly. I've managed to get the subframe under the car and aligned to the best of my ability so that I could start welding in the DSE sub frame connectors. I've pulled about 6 million dimensions on the car and subframe. Some x dimensions are within a 1/16th and other dimensions like wheel base dimensions are about 3/8" off from side to side. I don't have the rear suspension under the car yet, so I'm doing my best in determining the 12:00 position on the quarter lip and then dropping a plumbob to the ground to find the center of the wheel opening to measure the wheel base. Who knows, I could be slightly off with my guessing. I did get the driver side floor cut out and the connector is fitted and ready to be welded. BUT before I weld it in, I think I'll hang the front sheetmetal one more time and measure some more.
I find myself trying to build a 68 Camaro with 2010 specs, and it just ain't happening to work out the best for me. I'll be posting pictures soon hopefully. The holidays were supposed to be time for me to work on the car, but that it didn't happen! Stay tuned.

I like the DP-90 so far. I've only used it on the exterior of the car. Everything you see in grey is the Omni line of epoxy primer by PPG. It's much cheaper than the DP-90 and was more appealing to me for the areas not seeing a basecoat/clearcoat application.

Good idea to re hang the front sheetmetal before final welding. You can NEVER measure enough to be sure things are where they should be. Where are you pulling the dimensions from at the front of the car to check your wheel base? And did you check the body shell for square using the alignment holes up front(for the sub frame) and cross back to the front of the leaf spring mount? Did either of those leaf spring mounts get replaced?

Actually, I had the front sheet metal on the car and rough fitted last week. It fit really well. I used several areas to measure from. The four main points I started with were the 2 dowel pin holes located in the front subrame mount. I also used the two 5/8" holes at the front of the rear frame rails (same holes you're talking about). I measured front to back on each side and am within an 1/8". I then measure diagonally and am still within an 1/8". I then dropped a plumbob from the core support holes in the front of the subframe and measured diagonally again to the holes in the rear frame rails. Actually this measurement is within 1/16".
I tried to check wheel base, but like I mentioned, I have no rear suspension in the car yet. I tried to get the most accurate 12:00 position on the quarter lip and dropped a plumbob from there. I then dropped a plumbob from the center of the lower ball joint and measured front to back. The drivers side measures 108-3/8" and the passenger side is dead on 108" which is what it was SUPPOSED to be from GM. I figure since I'll be running an adjustable 4 link, the 3/8" probably won't matter too much since I'll be able to move things around in the back.
My biggest concern right now is that before I started this build, I had installed some LS1 brakes on the front of the car. Because of the rim, I had to use a 1/2" spacer and of course it pushed the rim out further. When I did this, the passenger side wheel stuck out considerably more than the driver side. I personally, had never removed the front subframe and who knows if it was square to begin with. With the drum barkes and no wheel spacer, I never noticed it.
So, I need to make sure the subframe is not off left to right before I weld the connectors in.

Oh, and no to your question about the leaf spring mounts. My original torque boxes were in mint condition, so I decided to leave them welded to the frame rails so that the frame rails had no chance of moving when I removed the floor. I just cut the torque boxes off the new floor and left the originals in place.

With the new 4 link rear you will be able to adjust A LOT of things in the rear suspension and get it dialed. That 3/8" shouldn't make any difference by the time it is all settled in.
For the sub frame, if you measured all of those points and it is looking as good as it is then you should be ok with the wheels fitting right and looking symetrical as far as width goes compared to the fenders. Now if the core support or some other structure up front is bent and throwing the fender positions off you will have to correct that. But you said the mock up looked good at this point.
Do you have any way to finish the entire front end mock up with tires, suspension, brakes, inner fenders ....that will show everything and you will be able to fix any issues prior to paint.

Yeah, I can bolt everything up. The stock front suspension is still on the subframe and I have everything else. I mocked everything up excluding the inner fenders and everything was pretty good. A few shims here and ther and it appears to be good. I'll have to double check a few things before I weld.

Thanks, Greg. Well, let's just hope the Chassisworks G-Link gives it the stance it deserves. I've seen G-Bar Camaros that are pretty low, but I've yet to see a 67 or 68 Camaro with the G-Link at ride height. I'll be quite disappointed if it doesn't give me the stance I'm looking for.

Nice Chris. When is it going on the rotisserie?
It's ready to go now, but I think I'm going to attack the subframe first. Speedtech is supposed to be shipping my control arms and shocks this coming Monday (2/2), and I'd like to have it ready to install the new parts by next weekend if possible. My goal is to get those horrible factory welds cleaned up, the seams welded solid, and everything primed before I install the parts.
Then, I need to weld the G-Link bracketry to the rear frame rails. Once those are on, she'll go on the rotisserie. The underside should be a cake walk since everything is new. Once it goes on the rotisserie, I plan for the undercarriage to be finished when it comes off. We'll see. I need to get cranking on this thing because our lovely south Louisiana summer will be here soon!
It sounds like you are in the home stretch with the chassis fab and finish. Not too long and it will be a roller again. I am going to do the same to my stock sub too. Let me know how it goes for you.

All the grey primer you see is the Omni line from PPG. The black primer on the outside is actually DP-90. I compared the two cans and they are identical. My local paint distributor swears by the Omni line and really pushed me to use it. The DP is supposedly better, so I decided to go that route for the exterior of the car. Not sure if it matters.

Chris,
I have used the DP series of epoxy primers for several years. It hold up pretty well to UV light.
I had a customer who wanted a flat black paint scheme and didnt want to pay for flattened clear. I told him since the DP wasnt top coated it would fade over time. It took almost 3 years for it to really turn chalky.
As far as the Omni goes, I talked to my paint guy and he said if you are going to use it in an area that you werent getting back into(like body work) it would be fine to use under any single or 2 stage paint. Up until I read your thread I had never looked into there line of sealers.
Thanks for answering my question.

I finally completed the Chicane coilover conversion on the subframe. I'm also working on an installation procedure for Blake and Roger at Speedtech for this conversion. Whenever it's finalized, the goal is to post it up on the Tech section of the home page if Scott will allow us.
The seams have been welded up on the frame and I plan to body work it this weekend and maybe get some primer on it. As a last minute decision, I opted to repair the front body bushing mounts. Both were pited pretty good but the passenger side was actually dented.
Here's a few photos of the brackets welded in and the subframe mount repair. I'll post more when the frame is fully assembled and has some primer on it.

Thats cool that you can do that kind of work, I'm more of an engine guy(I'd like to think). I have no welding skills what so ever, I never even tried. But I have a 67' that needs tubs( i want 18x10.5-11), trunk floor, left full quarter, and maybe rear floor pan cause the previous owner was going to put a rollbar in it so I have slots cut out for it. Theres more but those are the main things right now, i'm just waiting on my financial advisor/wife to give me the OK !

More progress. Yesterday I received my new 12 bolt from Moser so I called up my good friend from high school who builds race cars and tried to line him for installing the G-Link suspension next weekend. He had a better idea..."how about tomorrow" (meaning today). Since he's the expert in setting up front and rear suspensions, I decided to hire him to do it (with my help, of course). So, he came over about 10 am this morning, and we finished the G-Link installation about 6 pm. He got the brackets welded in to the frame rails and the upper and lower brackets welded on the rear end.
We did run into one problem. Moser drilled a 1/4" NPT vent connection at the top of the driver side axle tube near the center section. The problem was that the G-Link upper links fit right over the top, so we had to weld it up, and I'll have to drill and tap a new connection before I paint it.
While he was welding the brackets to the frame rails, I started bodyworking the front subframe. I decided to use All Metal filler on the welded seams to smooth them. I got the filler applied top side of the frame, but didn't get around to sanding it yet. Maybe I'll get to sanding it tomorrow after church.
Here's a few pictures of the new rear end with the brackets welded on.
Specs on the Moser 12 bolt:
33 spline axles
Detroit TruTrac Limited Slip
Big Ford Ends
3.73 gears
1350 yoke
Performance cover
54" flange to flange

Thanks Frank. I was quite impressed with how fast the install went...9 hours from start to finish.
Ride height is still the big question for me as it has been for a while now. Based on the recommended shock length from Chassisworks of 13"-14" and where I want the tires to sit, there may be a problem. We'll see.

I need to paint the rear end, finish up the bodywork on the subframe and paint it, then I can assemble everything and put the car on the ground. Would you please post photos of your G-link after you get it installed? I am trying to decide on a rear suspension and it's a tuff decision. Why did you choose the G-link? What would your second choice be if you did not go with the G-link?

I chose the G-Link because of it's range of adjustability. The DSE Quadralink was next on the list.

Okay, I got the rear end epoxy primed and painted along with the subframe. I actually took the extra time to smooth the welds on the frame with All Metal filler. It's not perfect but it looks pretty sweet IMO. To make it perfect I really needed to spray it with filler primer and sand it smooth, but I had to remind myself that it's just a frame.

It depends on money, but a realistic goal is the end of next year. I think I have a painter lined up to do the body and paint work. I need to buy the LS engine and transmission next to get everything mocked up. Then she can go off to paint.
Who knows it could happen sooner, but as a single income family, it's a slow process because of the money.

Yes I do. I didn't get much sleep last night because I was still wired at midnight from the highly anticipated milestone reached last night.
With all of the cutting and metal replacement I did on this car, I was nervous about it sitting crooked or something not being just right, but after looking it over last night it appears to be spot on (at least to the naked eye).
I'm in Zachary which is just north of Baton Rouge. I'm about an hour and a half west of Mandeville.

Nice work Chris, let me know how you are going to get that rear stance dropped down.
Two ways.
1. The lower control arm bracket has 6 holes in which you can move the lower shock mount to. I actually moved them to lowest setting this evening. Each hole is 5/8" apart. That made a HUGE difference.
2. I still have 1-1/2" of adjustment left in the springs. They're at full length right now. Plus, there's no weight in it right now. It's just a shell. Chassisworks recommends a shock length of 13"-14" in their installation instructions. I'm at 14-1/2" overall length right now.
Do you plan on ordering a G-Link?

The reason for the delay in working on the Camaro is because in July, I bought 5 acres north of where I live now and have been drawing house plans for a new house. So, unfortunately the car had to take a back seat for a while. The property I bought has a 40x60 steel building on it, so I've also been laying out plans on how to arrange the new shop.
Once I get the underside of the car finished, I can move the car to it's new home. Here's pictures of the new shop.

How long should I let the paint cure before I start putting the suspension back under it?

Funny you ask. I have no idea. I went to the paint store and told them I needed a PPG brand urethane paint for the undercarriage of my car and that I needed something durable that wouldn't completely break the bank. From there, I trusted their expertise. We'll see how it holds up in the long run.
Primer, paint, hardener, seam sealer, and a plastic car cover for $177.

Yeah. It's sitting under the cover in my new shop. The undercarriage is painted and the car is on the suspension. It's gonna be on hold for a while.
I just closed on my old house last Friday and paid off my land, so I'm officially DEBT FREE!!! We were going to start building a house immediately, but my job is kinda shaky right now, so my wife and I have decided to section off half of my shop and make a 2 bedroom apartment to live in. My goal is to save as much money as possible over the next 3-5 years and hopefully pay cash for our new house. I hate to take on a $150K-$200K mortgage and then lose my job.

If there were more SMART people like you - we wouldn't be in the mess this country is in right now. CASH IS KING -- always was -- always will be.
I've tried to teach my kids - if you get $100 - spend half -- SAVE the other half. And I don't mean "save it to spend it" I mean SAVE IT.
