Many of you may know me from other forums. I have been an occasional lurker on Lateral G and decided I should show myself. I live on the coast of North Carolina, been a hotrodder since the early sixties. Mostly involved with GM muscle. My most recent build is a 65 El Camino on one of Jeff Schwartz's chassis with LS power and a T56. I got it on the road in late Sept. Got most of the bugs worked out now and ready to drive it hard in 09. Looking forward to expanding my network of friends and learning a few new tricks on this site.

Thanks Tommy. I've been enjoying your posts on the Gen II your building. Really neat fab work. If I can figure out what I'm doing wrong I'll tack on a few new shots.

beautiful car!! :bow: :wow: ive been searching the internet for months(literally) for a car like this. i new i wanted to build a g-machine elky but i didnt quit have the vision. you set a great example. how long did it take you to do this from start to finish? thx!



i currently am looking to fix up a 65 el camino as well. im only 18 and am going to be graduating highschool this year (then off to college after summer) so i dont have the money to make mine as boss as yours. rite now its got a 454 in it thatll need to be rebuilt in the next few thousand miles. my uncle has a 70 chevelle that he wants my engine for so he can sell his chevelle as an SS clone. he has a brand-new never fired sbc350. i was thinking about just boring the 454 .30 over into a 462 and running aluminum heads(have), cam(have), forged pistons/h-beam rods(would need to buy) but not sure if i could afford a 5/6 speed tranny thatll hold up to the hp/tq the bbc will put out? the other thing i was thinking of was accepting his offer to trade and buying forged pistons for the 350 and run a weiand 142 at say 6lbs of boost with a low enough compression ratio to run pump gas. the second option would be lighter and would also allow me to spend less on a transmission(wont have the hairy bb torque). the drivetrain will def. hold as its a custom ford 9" with a nodular center section, 1350 yokes, etc. it has a th400 tranny rite now but i kinda wanna go with a 5 speed manual so i have a higher top speed. was think 4l80 with a transgo full manual shift kit so i dont need the stand alone comp. its already converted to disk brakes and has new suspension. just need to spend some money on the interior and a cheapy(presentable) paint job. was curious what you thought. i have a budget of about $7K. thx!:willy:

Sounds like you have many good ideas for your build and with your just finishing HS and starting college you should have plenty of time to work it thru to know exactly what you want. And that is how you should build it, to suit yourself. It took about two years for this build as I was building a 66 Chevelle for a customer at the same time. I'm retired and build cars as a hobby. When I'm at a car event and I'm asked how long did it take, my standard answer is "I'll let you know when I finish". That's the beauty of this hobby, you never actually finish. It is always a work in progress.

Hey Darrin. I am looking forward to RTTH as well. You may see it way before Sept. I plan to be at David Sloans place in May, Gingerman in June. In less than two weeks I'll be at Maxton. Hopefully I can run several local AutoX events before June. I don't want to be get my feelings hurt by all the seasoned vets of past RTTH and Goodguys events. Up until now I really have had no chance to push the car. Got no clue how the chassis will work or what to adjust. It's a new learning experience for me. I would really like for Schwartz to drive it and advise me on dialing it in. Maybe that can happen in June. Look forward to seeing you again.

Mine will be LS powered some year but not soon. I have a few pic's but will try and get some better ones. I'am hoping to redo the suspension this summer, if that happens I'll start a thread on it.

By all means share your pics. We all love to see what other folks are doing with their rides. I like all El Caminos. Not many folks go as far off the deep end as I did, well except for Herb and Jim and Keith and so on.
