408 LSX

by LSX you mean 6.0L block with 4 head bolts, not a 6 bolted LSX block??

super cool car though, love everything but the splitter, but perhaps it will be better once the car is done, right now it looks alittle after-thought'ish... like it did on tylers 50/50 renderings....

Cool car. Glad to see someone actually enhance that body line off the fender wheel opening. I've seen it in a ton of renderings, but nobody every carries through and does it on the car. It looks sick!

Flash 68...
Thanks again, man.... hope to see you driving your Camaro real soon....:captain:

Deuce 454...
The splitter is being played with. The one in the rendering was thought up by Kris Horton. I like it... but like you said... who knows how it will look in real life. We have mocked up a few different ones.... But still undecided.
What you can't see is the rear. We are mocking up a rear diffuser (like the ford gt) Should be pretty cool.
The LS block is the one from the truck... not the "super" iron block. You have to excuse my "LS" knowledge.... my partner Brian is the Engine dude. lol.
skatinjay27
This car is going to smoke Dyrdeks... lol.:unibrow:
I think we are lining up some dual photo shoots... and also may run them on TV... when or where..... I have no idea. But he can't drive anyway....lol.

RS-perf...
We originally weren't going to do it. Matter of fact..we were going to two tone the car to keep the costs down(on paint)... but when we got the renderings... and the fenders were flared(as usual).. I came back to the shop and the fender was cut.. I said "WTF"...lol... and my guy was like... we HAVE to do it like the rendering. Thats what opened the doors...

DJW32
We have the DSE quadralink with coilovers. The front suspension is Global west.... coilover.. drop spindles... ect. Stock subframe with a couple little tweaks... but not much. NO air ride... We put that in Robs car. I hated it. To finicky... buttons and what not.
The turbo kit is going to be built by ASP. They(Brian) are pretty good at it. I've attached a photo of a turbo kit he built in a 69 a couple years ago. Mine should be pretty similar. We are using Bullseye Power turbo's... We are a certified tuner for them... and they are from our area so we are going to show support.(I wish they would donate them suckers though)....lol.

slownova...
Thanks. I decided to go old school because...... I don't know really. I guess they are just bad ass cars..the majority of my car club all runs muscle cars.. and they are a hell of a lot easier to work on. Not to mention the feel, sound of a cam'd out V8 is intoxicating. And now that you can really make them drive like a bimmer... but still have that OG look... and when done right... its game over. Looks, sound, acceleration..ect.
Not to mention... I am apart of a business that specializes in making them fast... :P

Mr. Vengeance.....
I live 5 miles from Gratton Race track. My plan when the car is done is to be at the track 3-5 days a week. Im not going to lie... I have(had) pretty high horsepower cars... but none have had the power that this car is going to have. I drive the piss out of my cars with no looking back. But I know how to respect the power... and i WILL have to go and really learn how to drive this car. My bimmer will lose traction at 75mph... and I can control it. Whether its sideways... or straight... But I know this car will lose traction at 120+.... so, The track is where I will learn how to handle the power. And believe me.... it will ALL be documented. ;)

Thanks again guys...
I love this stuff.

Mr.VENGEANCE

I would like to see the DC Shoes parking lot some time. Just don't let Ken Block get a hold of the keys or this might happen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rs-jAImScms&feature=PlayList&p=D8C4BBE59F2D87BC&index=0&playnext=1

That wheel opening line definitely makes the car. It is in a lot of renderings because it really changes the look and makes the car more aggressive. You never see it actually carried out because it is labor intensive and it takes skill to do it. Good to see some one go outside the '69 mold and try something cool on the car. 1/4's, bumpers, and exhaust are trick too.

... we get alot of people that go from driving porshes and bmws to wanting old schools. nothing can top it, exp like you said now...
...or you sell your 70 Mustang and build a tube chassis Porsche with a 525HP SBC engine - best of both worlds :unibrow: Next car will be a 70 fastback again tho'

back OT - I agree with others about the flares, the lines of the 69 really lend to doing a flare and your car executes it very well and I too think they blend great  Will be a rad car to see progress on! I like the front spoiler in the rendering as well, but I tend to really like spoilers on old muscle cars (BTW, the front piece is a spoiler, not splitter... splitters are parallel to the ground and extend forward to create downforce)

Good to see progress! When did you drop the blue colored rendering idea? I thought that looked pretty badass. The new rendering looks great to but the blue was a bit more original... although the darker scheme might look better as you pass Dyrdek!

We originally were going to use the blue to keep the cost down. The engine bay, door jams..ect were blue already... BUT, once we committed to cutting up the fenders and all that... it didn't really matter anymore. The whole car had to be painted. So... I really wanted a gun metal car. Something I would never get tired of looking at.:unibrow:

Here are a couple updated pics... Iphone quality..lol.
The tubs are pretty close to done, the scoops are done... most of the heavy metal work is done. The car is going to get sent out for blasting in the next few days.
Big news though.... Marquez Design marquezdesign.com is supplying the cars interior. I couldn't be more happy. I absolutely love their pieces. They are so clean and well done. Also... they are supplying the new lower valence for the car. You can see it on the rendering on their home page. Its called.. the "cold air" valence. Its bad ass. So.. stay tuned to check out the photos and installations.

I have some updates.... but only one picture. It is of the rear. It will give yous a general idea of what the diffuser and bumper will look like. In my opinion... she is going to be "badass".
We are currently working on the front lower chin spoiler... getting the fuel cap located on the upper side of the right rear quarter.... and getting ready to do the spoiler on the trunk. This thing is going to be incredible.

Josh,
You and Rob need to have a throw down when you get your whip done... I wanna see that on fantasy factory haha, after Sheckler got man handled in his Ferrari with rob spinning the whole way I was grinning ear to ear, but this car looks sick... love the concept man, bring it over to Chicago when its all done so I can drool over it haha

I know the pictures are pretty harsh.... camera phone...ect. :(

It should really start coming together now. Almost all the metal work is done. Just need to strip the hood and cowl... add the air ducts... finish the rear, front splitter... then she will get primed. Probably middle of next week it will all be one color...lol. NO MORE LEADING..... NO MORE GRINDING!!

Just got the Bullseye turbo's today... so we will start building the turbo manifolds.... we have a doner front clip... so we can build the turbo system while the body is getting its treatment.

Once our website gets redone... all the high res build photo's will be there. There has been a ton of metal work. Cutting and extending the flares... the custom rear valance... leading seams... extending the mini tubs... ect. Pretty cool stuff.

Here's a couple quick pics.(Will be a 3 piece spoiler.)
I also threw in a couple of the front splitter coming together.
I want to give a big thanks to Marquez Design. We received the new tail lights and trunk hinges.... beautiful pieces. I will post some photos of those in the next day or two.
Also a big thanks to Bullseye Power for the turbo hook up.

A little more update for you guys....
We have been really cranking out the body on this gal. Fitting all the body lines.. front splitter....the cabin is virtually ready to be put together. (all the primer, seam sealer, undercoating, and dyno matt is done.

Here are a couple cool pictures of the center exhaust tunnel, lower trunk floor(aka diffuser plate), im also showing how the tank will be mounted above the exhaust. There will be another floor surrounding the tank with a removable portion for easy access to the fuel lines and what not. Still plenty of room for the batteries, and sub box(to be mounted under the rear deck shelf). We stlll need to cut the original fuel filler neck off the tank... and relocate it towards the passenger side quarter. No big deal though... should be pretty tough lookin.
My seats came in as well...... awesome!!

We've been making good progress the last week. We got the "lower trunk floor" finished. The diffusers are all welded and just need some cleaning up.

The turbo headers are all mocked and tacked. Just a day away from being all tig'd up and looking smoking hot. We also finished all the body gaps... we are hoping to have the car in primer within 10 days. By that time.. the intercooler should be done.. and most of the interior should be here. Big thanks to Marquez. We can't wait to put all that together.

heres some more blackberry pics. All the things like inner fenders, core support... ect are being done on the side. The ones in the photos are for mock up only...lol.

The ZR-1 won't be ready to dyno just yet, I'm currently porting the injector housings and plenum. Should make ~430rwhp when it's done. 368 cubic inch LT5!

Well.... couple more BB pics.
Brian finished up the Turbo headers. They came looking like pieces of art. I don't even want to put them on the car. Keeping them on the bench and just staring at them makes me happy.:)

Here they are sitting with the Bullseye 66 mills. The body is in its final blocking stage. As soon as the door panels get here (to measure up the fit of the cage)... she will be sprayed and reassembled.

any progress?

Yeah... we have been blocking the car for a bit. Tomorrow it gets its final primer application. It should be painted by the end of the week.

Just today we used our "mock up cowl" (old rusted 69 camaro cowl) to fit all the Marquez upper and lower dash, bezzle, guages, brackets, ect... and also to mock up the locations for the computers and run the harnesses. Basically getting everything prepped to be transfered to the "real" car in a short time.

In the next day or two the interior will start getting wrapped in suede and leather.

We also finished the intercooler... and have started making the piping.
I should have some pretty good update photo's pretty soon.

Oh yeah... we cut the original filler neck off the Ricks tank.. made a patch piece.. and now are making the new filler neck in its new location.

We have only 6-7 weeks to have the car finished. :faint:
probably some pretty long nights ahead...lol.

Thanks for the compliments guys.
Here are some more "blackberry pics"...lol.

Basically the pics from the update a couple posts ago.

When we were fitting the BRAND NEW (2 year old though, just never installed) Ricks twin A1000 fuel tank.... I would keep hearing something rattle around in there. When i opened it up to clean out the metal shavings and all.... i found a big ol chunk of aluminum :wow: lol.
Pretty random.

Also... the car is freshly primed. As in just a couple hours ago. Here are a couple pics while it is drying. I really like the dark one because you can see the shadow and how well the lines came out. Yes.. i know.. hard to tell with the blackberry.... lol.

Intercooler is done.

The Marquez mock up is coming along nicely. We should be finished with fitting in the next day or two.... then it will be getting sewed up.

thanks again for the compliments.

the rear of that car flat looks awesome! I really dig the diffuser concept, built in spoiler even if it does seem a bit Shelby/California Special-ish, looks really cool.

Everything is so smooth and blended well on the rear of the car, any thoughts of smoothing out the front dam/incorporated splitter design or will it be keeping the sharp lines as seen here?

http://www.nittotire.com/#index%2Etire%2Ent05%2Esizes

The dash is pretty straight forward.
You need to remove the majority of the stock dash... a couple stock brackets.. but really... it took 5 minutes to do. We used a air saw. The stock dash and brackets are still in good shape and usable. Marquez did a nice job designing that. The brackets that hold the dash to the body are easily mounted and they give you a nice amount of room to adjust where you want the holes drilled.
The pics of mine are at an early "install" stage... like the area around the steering column. It came uncut... so we cut it. There is another "finishing" piece that goes over that area.
Very well designed.

bynbad914

I'd highly suggest reconsidering that front splitter. That car is going to be undrivable in a lot of circumstances. Grocery story parking lots will eat it alive and come back for seconds. A stock Camaro spoiler on a lowered first gen gets ripped apart frequently.

If that car plans to get driven, I'd reconsider it or make it removable. The gentleman I met at Cal Speedway had the right idea with his front spoiler, he made it removable...

This Camaro's chin isn't to bad. There is actually a few inches of clearance. Rolling in and out of the shop is no problem.

The crossmember we bought sucked. It held the trans to high.. and wouldn't allow a big exhaust to be ran. So we built our own out of chrome molly. It came out pretty good. Camaro is painted.... and going through final assembly. We jet coated the headers and turbo exhaust housing.... quadra link is welded in place and painted... wiring has begun... the Marquez door panels are done suede and leather... the dash is leather upper and suede lower... roll cage is done and painted... ect.

Crazy build man. I have to ask, why a stock subframe in such an upscale car?

lol......
To tell you the truth.. i would LOVE an aftermarket subframe... but there is a pretty tight budget on the car. Luckily.... I have had GREAT support from DCShoes, Marquez, IForged, Nitto, Digital Design, Comp cams, Bullseye Power, and my guys here at All Speed.
The build originally started out as a mild "cool" camaro... but once DC stepped in and made a donation... then came out with a SICK promotion campain... I opened my wallet and drained it to make it a bad ass build.
Quite frankly... i am running out of money. I have to pay my guys at the shop to work on it.. because when they are on my car.. they aren't making money from the shop... and three guys full time gets expensive.. even when im getting a SMOKING deal. lol.
The subframe is just too far over budget.
Don't get me wrong... an email with the whole promotion campaign was sent to try and get the baddest of the bad subframe.... but no reply. lol.

A properly prepped stock subframe can and will perform with the best of aftermarket subframes out there. Its all bench racing anyway, because it all depends on the driver in the end. With my modified stock subframe by guldstrand I've had no issues hanging with evos, 997s, m3s, m5s, and even vipers at track days. I've even had SRT vipers give me point bys. That was with manual slow ratio steering as well. I recently installed quickratio which should help a ton.

A lot of the aftermarket parts that we are so lucky to have are beautiful, but highly uneccessary and 'bling' more than anything else. Weight savings is about the only thing an aftermarket sub can offer you, and easier wider front tires, but with steering stops, I should be able to run a 275. I don't want to talk trash on all the great aftermarket companies providing all these great products for our cars, but what worked well for the trans am sunoco cars works well today.

The One Lap camaro runs a stock subframe and so have a couple of Stielow's builds.

In the end, the only thing that makes your car perform well isn't the parts, its you, and seat time at the track. Lots of people on these forums seem to not realize that nor care....

Im really not to worried about the subframe. It would be one of those "bells and whistle" pieces. It was more about the ride height. I wanted to make sure i could get the stance i wanted with out rubbing issues. Luckily with the fender line flared out a bit... i have full turning radius without any issues.

There is a good deal of aftermarket on the car... but for the most part... its all custom. There wasn't much thought about weight saving... but the car wasn't meant to be built for track purposes. Actually... with the extra metal work.. there is probably 75lbs more weight to the stock body. I can't wait to put it on the track... but more for fun rather than "best lap time".

Here's a pretty cool thing we did with the exhaust tunnel.
This is some gold foil we are also using under the hood reflect the heat coming from the turbo's(a mix of Carbon fiber and gold foil). I think it looks sick in the exhaust tunnel. Obviously this photo won't do it justice... but you can get a pretty good idea. It reflects up to 78% of all radiant heat with continuous operation temps of 450 centigrade. Here's a link to the product. It runs about $25 a sq ft. http://www.crracing.com/racing_performance/gold_reflective.shtml

As for the rest of the car... we are just finishing up with the wiring. Tomorrow the front end will get put back together.. the exhaust gets re mounted.. and we will start running the power stearing lines, and the heater hoses. Its getting real close now......

Here's a couple more... the splitter is still being made/changed.. but we are liking the "trans am" style splitter that will have some nice struts.... also i included a couple pictures of how well the gas filler looks on the top of the rear quarter....

==========================================

Love the Car, needless to say.

How about making some Fiberglass, or Carbon Fiber, Front and Rear Fenders/Short Quarter Panels, for those of us that would like to help you pay for your car?:unibrow:
===========================================
A Question:

Why is the Gas Filler Cap on the Right side, instead of the Left Side?
===========================================

Keep up the good work, can't wait to get your replies.

Good Luck,

Ty O'Neal

with the extensiveness of this build im pretty sure that a flip down license plate could be fabbed up with minimal effort.. im thinking a small actuator that you could just push a button and the plate would drop down from behind the rear valance if you saw a need for it..
================================
The flip down License Plate units are available from many, "Hotrod", suppliers.

I've seen a bunch of them on '23-'34 Fords, as well as others.

Should be easy to find.

I would love to make those pieces.... But the doors are modified as well. The line would have to be changed a bit to flare them... but not have to cut into the door.
The gas is on the right side because all my previous cars have been on the right. So im used to it.:)

you are more than welcome to come up to the shop anytime.... Also whenever im in town... stop by Dowg Dowgs on Wilson just south of 28th st. It will be there every weekend. Thats were 75-200 cars meet up on Fri and Sat nights. Lots of cool cars, (mostly) cool people, and if you can stay up late... there is always a cruise to Joes Pizza on Division.

Sounds like a plan. I'm guessing that Dowg Dowgs is done for the season? I'm not real familiar with that end of town, but I'm sure I can find the place.

Do you know your booth # for SEMA. If not I'll keep my eyes open for your car and try and swing by and say hi. I thought I read that Iforged is receiving your car for you so I'll assume that means it is going to be in there booth.

One of my good buddies is a concierge for MGM. He can normally get the super hook up(free / buy 1 get 1 free bottle service) for me when I come to Vegas. If enough car guys are interested in getting some drinks and bull ****ting I can see what he can arrange. I'll be in town Oct. 30th - Nov. 6th.

Well.... MANY fun hours at the shop the last couple weeks.
The Engine is done and buttoned up. She runs on her base tune..... can't wait to really start running her.
Today the gaps got re-aligned and the doors, trunk, ect were installed. Unfortunately i didn't get any pictures of that. We have some nice ones on the shop camera... but they are to big to upload.
So you'll have to deal with the Blackberry pics from yesterday. lol.
98% of the car is wired up. We are just waiting for my guy to foam and suede the center consul then we can finish the last 2%(window switches and heater controls)
here is a couple pics of her after she DROVE from one end of the shop to the other. :D
Only 10 more days before she gets shipped out to Vegas. The stripes are going on tomorrow... :willy:

Here are a couple more. The car is just about finished. Just buttoning up the interior.... Its looking pretty sick.
My guy Sam whipped up a nice cover piece and painted the shop name on it. Also... i didn't want to lug around a big lap top.. so i got a nice pocket PC to keep the tune in.. and since the car is being driven from Vegas to San Diego.. it will give us plenty of "final tune time"... we had to make the paint scheme on the lap top the same as the car though...lol.

Well.... here she is in all her glory. These photo's were taken while getting some final detailing... so don't mind the compound stuck in the cracks.. or the dusty trunk interior, kinda dirty interior... or the screw in the center of the door panel(there is a bad ass emblem that goes there)....some places hadn't been fully buffed yet...ect.

We started to tune her.. but ran out of time and had to throw her on the truck for vegas. During the tuning.. we only ran 8lbs of boost. At a measly 3800 rpms.. she made 530rwhp... and 6XX ft pounds of torque. She sounds awesome. Good thing Me ad Brian are driving her from Vegas to San Diego. That should give us some nice time to street tune her. This spring she will get re-tuned at 14lbs...:unibrow: :willy:

Thanks for the compliments throughout the build. Hope to see yous in Vegas!!

We made it!!
Only one problem we had..... we got jammed up in traffic for quite some time... then it started going up a 5 mile hill. Stop and go was starting to kill my calf.. but no big deal. 1/4 way up the hill.. i started smelling clutch. (you have to realize that it was clutch in clutch out for 10 miles.. then 2 miles up the hill... just slippin it for miles)... Then shortly after the smell... i saw some smoke coming from the car. Imediatly pulled over and shut her down. Well... after letting the clutch cool for a bit.. it would not disengage. Everything must have gotten to hot and expanded. We had to sit there for an hour... then put the car in reverse... and cranked it a few times. Finally it broke loose. Just as that happened.. a highway patrol pulled up and blocked all the lanes so we could whip accross traffic and hit the exit for a well needed Pizza hut stop. lol. He didn't even mention the no plate... or the brake light that was out. (who says you need a damn plate!!)

Then once back on the road.. she cruised down the 15 running 85mph in 6th at 1900 rpms flawlessly.

Still need to fix the axle seal... its not as bad as it was... but its still drippin back there. Other than that... thing seem real good. Never got hotter than 190's.. even sitting in that damn traffic. Im pretty happy about that.:captain:

Pretty much. There is still a slight valve cover leak... and the suspension creaks a bit... but things seem to be pretty good. I have been daily driving her.
I did have to modify my control arms... on hard turns the lower control arms were digging into the rotors. Strange because the exact set up was used prior with no issues. Only thing that was changed was we added drop spindles.
Other than that... i really enjoy driving the camaro.

Josh,

Don't let the little things get to you... You do have to be builder, engineer, tuner, driver... These cars are "projects" and take lots of tweaking. If you look at it as a learning experience - and an experience it is... then it's fun. Anybody can buy a Porsche... :hail:

I'll also bet that NOBODY comes to talk to you when you fill up the "regular" cars... and you're having a parade every time you take the Camaro out.

Hey Josh,

I welcome your car to Cali! I actually was leaving my house yesterday in Carlsbad when you pulled up next to me near the airport. Your car looks AWESOME and sounds great!!! The attention to detail is OUTSTANDING!

I was tempted to run home and grab my 68' Camaro and realized I don't have it back from my motor swap yet. I am about a year behind you in my restoration. This is my third restoration I am completing on this car. I keep wanting to change things up!

Let me know if you plan on taking it to any local shows or cruises. After checking out your gunmetal and black stripes; I may have to reconsider my 2002 Corvette blue and white stripes that I currently have

After logging at least 1k in miles.... and based on the ride i got in Vegas in Vegas69's car.... AND with the driving habits that i have... i want the front sub frame. I'll probably go with a Speed Tech frame so i don't have to change my wheels.
Thanks again for the compliments. Im glad you got to see her in the streets!!

I am right off Palomar Airport Road.

Oh no, back to MI? I am sure your car likes the year around driving weather out here! Too bad I won't see you cruising around here anymore :(

I am trying to finish my car up to have it 100% ready for the Hot August Nights car show. That is still THE best place I have gone to show off your ride. It usually attracts around 150,000 spectators and enthusiasts.

A new front end complete with rack and pinion and coil overs and sub frame connectors are on my agenda also. I haven't nailed down which way I will go yet. I have an automatic right now with a B&M Pro Stick but I may switch over to a 6 speed for the fun driving factor.

I threw the gal on the dyno today to see exactly what she had been running the last few weeks in California. At a measly 8lbs of boost... and crappy California 91 octane... she put down 754 rwhp... and 726ft lbs torque. Im pretty happy with that..... that is until we crank her up.:unibrow:

Now we are going to strip the front end off and put a more modern front sub under her. Then she has quite the schedule this spring. Some photo shoots... Goodguys event, Texas Mile, Maybe run the Silver State(im undecided), couple Autorama's...ect. Should be pretty fun.

here's a short video of the dyno......

Only 745RWHP and 726RWTQ?!?! C'mon, you can do better than that!! lol  JUST KIDDING! That's very stout for only 8lbs of boost and pump gas!! :wow: VERY NICE!!
I can only image what the numbers will be next after some more boost!:willy:

You need to paint that intercooler black, it's distracting.
