Wayne it's going to be one hell of a quality build. I have to ask....why did it need taken down that far?

waynieZ
09-24-2008, 07:22 PM
Well it started out needing a complete floor ,then the trunk had some pinholes scatered a round . The tail panel had rust all a round the taillights. The quarters had been fixed badly. There was a small hole in the roof skin and It was well if we fix this then that 's not much more and on and on. I brought it to a guy in my area who does awesome work .He wanted $10,000 labor to put quarters tail panel floor and trunk. I had to bring all my own parts.
So I bought all NOS parts .I was ready to have him do it . Then I saw Mike's site and couldn't believe his work , for $3,000 more he provide the parts not NOS but the way he installs them I couldn't tell the difference. I sold the NOS parts and paid for half my work. I kept the front end NOS parts ,but the rest are from Mike. I spent a bunch more with add ons but its my one shot at this so I jumped in with both feet in the deep end . And I'm not sorry.
THanks for looking

Here are some sub frame pictures Mike blasted the sub and found it had been hit on the drivers side . So he suggested we cut the crossmember in front of the motor and replace it with the set up they use to install a Rack system. Then he fixed any rusted mounting points . Then he welded all the seams solid, and ground it smooth. He powder coated all the parts It has DSE upper control arms with Xtall ball joints ,Speed tech lower control arms . All new Moog steering components with tall outer tie rod ends to combat bumpsteer. 3" drop springs with single adjustable Vari shocks and a dse front sway bar. Check it out its the first part for the car thats finnished!

Awr68 Thanks for the avitar, The last time I tried to put it up it was too big Thanks again.

redrambler no rendering yet I was hoping to get one some day. For last christ mas my wife had someone in one of the malls do a colored chalk drawing of it as a before. The build will be the original sub done as you see it the engine is a Bill Mitchel Limited addition 454 small block 600hp/585 tq ,it has a Dominator carb which I will try to swap to EFI when I have the cash laer. The trans is a Keisler Viper 6 spd with a hydrolic throw out bearing . Spec stage 3 clutch going into a Chris Alston Fab 9 with 31 spline Auburn pro posi with 3:50 (for now ) Mike iis making for me. I'm using an Air ride G bar 4 link with single adjustable Vari coil over . Mike is going to cut the gas tank front corners so I fit my Hooker Super comp headers and Magna flow 3" exhaust to the back. The wheels are Rushforth Livewires full polish 18 x8 5"bs front and 19 x 12 5" bs. Tires will be 245 -18 and the rears will be 345 -19s

Tha body is being reskined at mikescustomcars.com if you want to see more check it out under projects Wayne Mendoza Mike is smothing the fire wall ,and moving the wiper motor under the drivers fender. He is also puting convertable rockers on it 3 piece instead of two stiffen the body. He is also putting frame connectoers and tieing the sub frame to the rockers for stiffness. He powder coated my inner fenders and radiator suport ,and he is alining all my sheet metal. Which he does an awesome job at he welds the edgaes if needed.I have NOS front and rear bumper and al lot of new parts for outside. I also bought a set of Prodigee customs smoked glass kit. DSE elec RS conversion kit it is a real RS /SS but vacum sucks. The car is 53000 # match car all stored away.

Interior The interior is original to the car its in decent shape, but I would like to get some Marqese door panels and rear deck panel .Maybe later on.
Sorry for the rambling and I know I forgot a lot of stuff.

GMracer and Tones2SS I live in Fall River in the SE part of the state.
Tones2SS Its a factory frame solid welded and DSE and Speed Tech control arms.
Here are the rear wheelshttp://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w11/Hardcore454/Picture004-1.jpg

I never named my project but this is the plate that went on it when I bought it so I guess thats it.
The story about the plate is this . I used to work 50 miles from home and I had to travel on hell road RT24 from Boston. ( anyone who uses it knows what I mean. ) their used to be this little BMW Z3 that used to fly by us in the work truck every day. We would be going 80 and she buzzed right by us.I got a look at her she was about 21 blond and gorgeous. We would look for her eery day . One day she got stuck in front of us and I got to see her liscence plate . It was from Ma. FNFAST I loved it .When I got home I told my wife about it . She said if you like it get it , I explaned it was a Ma. plate they don't do doubles.

Later that week A few of My buddies came over the house one was drunk as a skunk I was trying to think of a good plate . He was half asleep and didn't get in on the conversation. We talked all night with no ideas when we woke him up he blurts out . How about FNQUIK . He hadn't even flinched for two hours and comes up with a winner.

I mentioned it to my wife and she said get it if you want .I told her the state might not let me if they pick up on what it means. So I didn't even try about a week later my wife hands me an evelope from the registry , I opened it . It had FNQUIK on it and said it was aproved , she went and tried and they let it go . Thats how I got my plate.

When I put the plate on it some kid in a WRX that was no stocker came on the side of me and asked if the plate was right . I told him it was but it meant how my money was going sense i bought the car . He laghed and fried all four tires when he left. I would have had a better chance on foot to catch him lol

I have a lot of pictures of the build so far I will try to catch up to where it is now .

Thanks guys. Pete your right a bout that his work is meticulous . A friend and I went to see a car in NY that MCC had done. The guy with me didn't believe me when I told him the kind of work MCC does. He's the worlds biggest doubter. I started talking to the owner and my friend got a creeper and looked under the car. He didn't even crawl out from under it and all I heard was
SEND THIS GUY YOUR CAR! . Right after that I made arrangements to bring the car, and I'm so glad I did. I know when I get it back it will be straight and last forever.

I have two intake setups one is a Victor E with setup for EFI. It has a Holley 1000 cfm TB with all the sensors. The other is the World Motown manifold set up for the Dominator that came with the engine. It would have to be setup for EFI. I also have a Fast 4500 series TB it flows up to 2000 cfms. I would really like to use the Motown and Fast TB But I was told I might loose low end drivability. Anyone who tunes these let me know if this is a bad idea and I should stick with the small TB my motor makes 610 hp. As always thanks .

Thanks Guys Tony how was Summernationals? Anthony if you can resize it be my guest Thats the size of the picture that was on E Bay. I tried to resize it on Photobucket with no luck. I ',m not that good with computers . Besides I think this is one of my wifes from another life it never does what I tell it to. lol

Hey Wayne. How's it going?
The Summer Nats were ok. I went Friday and Saturday. A lot of the cars there are "stuck" in the 80's. They all have the "old school" Cragar wheels with big tires out back that stick out of the wheel wells. lol I think the only pro-tour car I've seen there was Morgan's '68 convertible Camaro. AND that was last year.
There were some really clean cars there as well though. I hung out with Ben Hermance and his buddy Mike (SSYNISTER), who is also on this site on both days. 2 great guys. You really didn't miss too much. Some great burnouts though.
Are you going to the Custom & Rods show?

Hey guys just got back after being of the site for a bit. Looking to get my 68 running again after 2 years.
Fnquik, that is one good looking ride so far. it must also be one heck of an expensive build too.
Tones i was at the summer Nats and meet Ben a few years agao. His work is incredible. Yea ya know i told my wife you dont see any rides that are of Pro touring quality or of todays style. Lots of nice cars but was disappointed to not see any unique suspensions or engine builds. Crap loads of stangs though.

My wife said no one wants to bring there high dollar builds like on this site because of where it is held. May be true. Tons of mud this year.
FN keep up on the pics i bet it will turn out better than you will ever expect it to.

Your wife is right!!!! There was a lot of mud, because of the rains and the burn outs when they wet the tires/burn out pad.
Yeah, you NEVER see any pro-touring car around here at all. Morgan had his '68 por-tour Camaro last year and won some type of an award. RIGHTFULLY SO!!!

Thanks for asking guys but nothing to report. Mike is finnishing Rich's car then he promised mine is next . He has it all mocked up . He has to remove the sheet metal and undercoat the inner body then weld up the sheet metal and set all the gaps . He's also making rear brackets to mount my Corvette Z51 brakes with the Corvette parking brake. Thats one of the things I'm sycked about the factory parking brake. I don't like the driveshaft parking brakes. He's also smoothing the firewall and painting it and the bottom with Sikens paint . I had asked him to move the wiper under the drivers fender I have to see if I have the money for that. I was worried about going for it in the winter but I don't care if its a blizzard when its done I'll put chains on my Tahoe. I need to get to work on it to get me out of this funk my mind has been in for a while.
I did order my Fast XFI Harness and duel sync distributor Friday . It should be here this Friday. At least I'll have some parts to play with.
I liked the pictures of when Rich put his sub frame and rear together and pretended to drive it . So I put my trans with the shifter on it and sat next to it. My wife beat me with the broom. Of coarse I WAS in the living room at the time. I figure it will be safe to back in the house in a few days .lol
Thanks again for asking it feels good to even just talk about it .... Wayne

Wayne, that is going to be a awesome car when done. I wouldn't suggest doing anymore setups in the house. As for your Z51 brakes. I am doing the same exact thing. Your all set then Tony. Mike has one forsale its got the extra wide tubs and his frame rails in it. I think they let you either 355's or 385's out back. With tires like that you can hook up with some big power.

Wayne, a 6 AN return is small. I'd match the feed line or better yet plumb it like Jody does. Return right at the tank. I'd just insulate the fuel line very well in high heat areas.

Hi Guys its been a while sence my last update. I E mailed Mike he said the inner body has been under coated and is ready for him to weld on the sheet metal. He's going to try to get it ready for August if everything goes ok.
I made a sweet buy on E Bay today I bought a V.A. front runner for my motor. It was already a sweet deal and I used Bing.com (which is ending soon ) and got $92 back from them and $32 from E Bay cash. So that softened the blowon my wallet. I was watching it for a while but held back from buying it beacuse I still need a lot of other stuff. But it got the best of me. I always wanted one. I watched one go by on here and it killed me.
So thats the news the sports and the weather !

Mario, thats one of the hardest things to decide. I like the orange that Chris Festler put on the 65 Mustang fastback he did last year I think its a Lamborghini color. I also like the red on the C6 Corvette. But its a tuff decision.

Is Mike painting it ? That Vette red is perfect for that car.. The Lambo orange is a tri coat, big $$$$$$ color....:faint:

12-15-2010, 06:44 AM
No I don't have enough to have Mike paint it. I wish I did. The C6 non metalic Red is leading the color choice. I'm leaning towards something easier to touch up beacuse I'm going to drive the car. Before it was taken apart I used to keep it drivable all winter. When ever the road was of clear of salt I would get it out and go for a ride. I'm hoping to do the same when its done.

Well it been quite a while sense my last update. This is a good one. I got some great news from Mike at MCC yesterday. The car is close to being done. He had told me he would take care of me for the extra time he took doing the car, but this is way more than I expected. The car was supposed to get the EDP stripped and epoxy primed and undercoated. I didn't have the money to have Mike prep it for paint. So He's going to prep it for paint for me to make up for the extra time he's had it. When I get it back it will only need blocking and paint and the body will be done. Plus he said were square on what I owed him. I can't beleive it. He contacted me a few weeks ago and asked if I needed the trans tunnel raised for the T 56. I asked him how much it would be to do it because I saw that Rich ( 67ragtp) needed the extra room.. He said he would take care of it. This will help me out so much.

Mario has offered to help me out with the materials to paint the car, I don't know how to thank him. It feels like this is finnaly going to come together.

Here are some pictures of my parts.

Lead meant that it's getting close to being home.

Mario When my wife and I refinanced last year I took some extra money for a garage. It started smaller then it ended up, but like any good project it got out of hand and will end up being a nice place to work on the car.
You can check it out here.

Thanks everyone. I'm nipping at the bit here, we have had a couple of decent days and its making me very anxious. I was trying to find an enclosed trailer to go get it when its ready to come home, no luck. Looks like it will be a U Haul open trailer . I figure I'll put the cover on it and wrap it with the plastic they wrap boxes on a palet so it won't flap around.

Glen I have a shop here in the city. A friend of mine does excelent paint work. He's painted the Z28's I used to have. He uses PPG paint. The guy that is so generous to help me out is Mario ( DOOM ) He's helped others out with parts he gave them that they otherwise would have had to buy. I can't thank him enough.
