Well here's a small overdue update. I've been tied up wioth the back and family stuff but I have been working on it.
I started putting the Dynamat in. Here are a few pictures.
I did the complete door sakin and the front part of the quarter panel.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w11/Hardcore454/Dash%20and%20Interior/000_0983.jpg

Under the dash is started.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w11/Hardcore454/Dash%20and%20Interior/000_0991.jpg

and most of the floor is done.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w11/Hardcore454/Dash%20and%20Interior/000_0990.jpg

I put a couple of small pieces in the vent holes where the kick panel goes just to deaden it a little.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w11/Hardcore454/Dash%20and%20Interior/000_0985.jpg

I did the 1/2" fuel line from back to front but don't have very good pictures. My wife just came out to get me she thinks midnight is too late to be taking pictures in the garage. Silly woman !

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w11/Hardcore454/Fuel%20system/000_0993.jpg

Here's what I have planned for my filters, pump and regulator. It will go at the front of the tank something like Lenie used on his car.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w11/Hardcore454/Fuel%20system/000_0989.jpg

I also put in the brake line front to rear and across the front of the sub frame.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w11/Hardcore454/69%20SS-RS/Brake%20parts/000_0969.jpg

And I bolted up the plates for the DSE connectors so they can be welded to the sub after they are painted.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w11/Hardcore454/sub%20frame/000_0968.jpg

We drilled and tapped the plates plus put a nut on the back side.

Well here's a little update. I put some Howe tall ball joints and tie rod ends on the car. The only part thats was Tuff was taking a hammer to my newly powder coated spindles. BRRRRRRR! Here's a shot of them installed
http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w11/Hardcore454/69%20SS-RS/Brake%20parts/000_1028.jpg

Here you can see the tall tie rod end before I bolted it up, and the Kore 3 C6 Z51 brackets. Tobin has some awesome parts, very well made.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w11/Hardcore454/69%20SS-RS/Brake%20parts/000_1027.jpg

I installed a set of Speed Tech aluminum hubs with 1/2 studs.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w11/Hardcore454/69%20SS-RS/Brake%20parts/000_1030.jpg

I got some of Kore 3's braided brake lines 5 pieces and their new brackets for the big old style Ford bearings to install my Z 51 rear brakes. Its a custom kit because on the offset on my axles. Tobin sent me a shim kit and it fit perfect. Their not installed yet but hear's some pictures.

A little update. We pulled the rear out of the car today and I attached the Kore 3 brackets. ( Nice Stuff ) Then I started shimming the brake calipers, tedious because the axles offsets are not exact for this kit. Tobin was great answering all my many questions. I just came in from the garage almost 1 AM. But that part is done. Now it will be making up the brake lines for the rear end. Here are a few pictures.

Friday I went to the garage with my buddy and we worked on plumbing the proportioning block into the Master cylinder and brake lines. He jumped into the engine bay and started bending and tweeking. I bought a full stainless line set from Inline Tube. But sense I'm using a Hydro boost and prop valve most everything under the hood didn't fit. I bought some copper Nickel lines because flaring the stainless is a night mare without the correct flare tool. We used the copper lines from the master to the prop block and one to the driver side front brake. The other lines we re bent and luckily they came out pretty good. I had to use brass adapters to make the lines fit the master and prop block. I may send the copper lines out and have some stainless lines coppied. Not sure yet.
Here's a couple of picture of what we did.
http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w11/Hardcore454/69%20SS-RS/Brake%20parts/000_1048.jpg
The lines are up against the steering box in this picture but have been moved to clear it. You can see the two top copper Nikel lines and the one from the prop valve to the left brake.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w11/Hardcore454/69%20SS-RS/Brake%20parts/000_1052.jpg
In the picture above these are the brass adapters I'm not too happy with I'd like to get the proper fittings and stainless lines.
http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w11/Hardcore454/69%20SS-RS/Brake%20parts/000_1050.jpg

Well the master for the clutch was a tight fit. Tried mounting it in the spot Kiesler suggested but with my Hydro boost it would not fit. I had to move it to wards the drivers side a little and down a touch. Then I installed the line for the throw out bearing before I bolted it up. The rod to the clutch pedal was still in line with the master so it should be good.
Here are a few pictures

The cap screw is pretty close to the brake pedal but has enough room.

Thanks every body. Saturday I went out an finished the Dynamat behind the pedals on the fire wall. Today we started the wiring. We installed the fuse block and laid out some of the dash wiring.
We also put the rear end back in the car. We noticed the top shock mount looks like its not letting the bolt go straight through the end of the shock. I'll go take a picture and post it now.

If you look at the rubber in the shock mount where the bolt goes through you can see what I'm talking about. If I disconnect the bottom of the shock and tighten the top the shock will angle away from the bottom mount. Its like they are not in line with each other.
http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w11/Hardcore454/BUILD%20PROGRESS/000_1075.jpg

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w11/Hardcore454/BUILD%20PROGRESS/000_1076.jpg
These two pictures are with the top and bottom bolts through but not tight.
I think its because the frame rails and the cradle have a little different shape where they mount together.
Let me know what you think.

Vegas69
02-27-2012, 10:51 PM
That can be remedied by moving your rear end back or you pinion angle down. It's a little extreme for my taste. Clearly, I wouldn't move it if it's where it belongs. These setups should've never been engineered with a poly bushing. They need spherical bearings and that's another option if it ends up being a CAR problem.

Matt@BOS
02-27-2012, 11:43 PM
Wayne, those last couple pictures remind me of a few other G-Bar/Prodigy bar setups I've seen. Dougie Fresh misted my car with shock fluid on a road trip, and it was because the shock had been side loaded. Gregg B (Gandalf) had a very similar issue, possibly the same issue. When Gregg was trouble shooting the issue, he was told to adjust it by changing the pinion angle, then by having different length control arms built if the former solution failed, which it did. Ultimately it was determined to be a problem with the bracketry on the housing.

Hopefully your situation can be fixed easily.

Keep pluggin' away!

Todd is correct. I hope pinion angle will fix this but Im afraid there may be too much angle. I would go with the spherical bearing solution also.

waynieZ

I doubt the pinion angle is set because the engine and trans have never been put in the car sense the work was done. I'll wait to see how it looks when we get that far then deal with it.

Today we fit the DSE battery hold down in the trunk and put the flaming river kill switch in temporarily. They will need to come out to paint the trunk later on.

I was thinking of using this fuse link for the by pass to keep memory on radio and ECU with a 5 amp fuse in it. I like the one AAW has with the breaker that resets itself but a little expensive.

Here's the AAW auto reset jumper $24

GregWeld

The fuse holder style is all I've ever used wayne -- it works perfectly. Just remember to keep a bunch of replacement fuses handy because you forget and jump in and hit the key - and badaboom - the fuse is GONE...

Ask me how I know?!?!:willy: :D

GregWeld

Wayne -- I'd adjust the pinion angle UP 2 or 3* and see if that helps with the shock mount issue. You'll ultimately need to set this when the motor etc and with the car fully weighted... but this would at least let you see if that is going to be something of a cure.

I would ASSume you're motor is going to be set with a 3* down angle... and that would have the pinion angle "nose high" approximately the opposite 2 to 3*

Set the jackstands under the axle....

The axle will still roll on the stands so you can mess with it. If it's all nicely painted put some rags on the jackstands.

I did some work in the trunk. I painted the black/Aqua spatter paint, and touched up the sound deadening/under coat on the inside of the quarters. Here are some pictures.
This is a picture of the over spray inside the trunk.

And now with the spatter paint. It still has some light spots, one of the cans the paint didn't all come out.

When you paint something that is galvanized do you have to remove it before painting, or is there an adhesion promoter you can use. Its for the floor plugs.
Thanks

Thanks everyone! I'm waiting on some small parts and my buddy who is helping me has some stuff to do to his car he changing from a spool to a posi unit in his Camaro. So as long as he needs to work on his car I'll be there if he needs me even just to hand him tools.
I needed some end lugs for my battery cables. I went to two electrical supply houses and neither had them. I couldn't believe it. So I tried Home depot and Lowe's two ace hardware stores. Nothing! I had to order them on line.
I worked in construction and we would kick them out of the way on the floors before the electricians cleaned up for the day. so it was hard to believe no one had any.I even stopped a electrical contractor still a no go.
Curtis Thanks and I wish you had to read 20 more pages it would mean I would be closer to the first start up.lol

I finally finished the trunk paint. ( g356speed ) the Eastwood clear is quite glossy. It came out pretty good. I'm glad to be done with it. The first set of cans I did without a mask. Wow strong stuff. We installed the 1/0 power cables from the Kill switch to the panel pass through on the passenger floor. There is extra slack to put them into the tray where they go through the back panel. Then put the rear harness in a split loom and ran it to the trunk. I need to get a crimper to install the old style GM terminals.
Here are a few pictures.

Wayne, Great work!

I was wondering while looking at your trunk when i saw the hinges support (the part where they welde to tubs) and since i have not followed your build in awhile, i was wondering if you are just 'Dry building' it to test everything before final paint and assembly at this point or if you really are doing finition work before paint? To each their own way but i was not even sure if the car was painted or not by looking at all those close up shots and having no idea of what color you are going with (not really seeing the body panels) .
Me,I would be afraid of overspraying all that hard work you are doing if you are doing it that way.... Even if taping very well...You know bad luck can hapen right, yeah, i know you can RELATE lol!!!

Your trunk looks VERY nice too! Keep it up!

Hi Wayne:

I hope all is going well with your hip replacement surgery. If it's any consolation- my wife has had both of her hips replaced at the ripe old age of 36. (they replaced them 3 months apart) She was standing the same day she had the surgery, and, now two years later she is doing well.

I hope you have a speedy recovery.

I did pick up a new set of 42 lb Holley injectors . I had 50's and was told they were a little big.

GregWeld
09-30-2012, 08:59 PM
40#'s will support 520 HP

42#'s will support 550 HP

50#'s will support 620 HP

Above is at the flywheel not rear wheel hp. and using 43 #'s of fuel pressure using .5 BSFC (Brake specific fuel consumption) and 80% max duty cycle.

As with all fuel injectors you can raise their fuel rate by raising the fuel pressure. 42's @ 43PSI will become 45.3's @ 50PSI and so on.

waynieZ
09-30-2012, 09:13 PM
I have a Weldon fuel pump its good to 90 psi. I plan on boosting the pressure to get what I need.

GregWeld
09-30-2012, 09:19 PM
I'd also run a vacuum referenced fuel regulator... big injectors are hard to control at idle if you don't use a referenced regulator.

With a referenced regulator - the fuel pressure will DROP accordingly at idle (high vacuum conditions) and that will help with the pulse width management.

Quick answer -- not that I can think of.

BUT -- there's always a big butt somewhere right? The MSD can wreck havoc on your EFI if done incorrectly!

Make certain that there are no shared wire runs -- and that the MSD and ECU are AT LEAST 2 feet apart.

MSD boxes are very powerful and if you want all manor of problems and weird issues just fail to heed the warnings.

Went over to my buddy's house , the engine got washed down and painted Chevy Orange with Eastwood's ceramic engine paint with hardener. It looks like its still wet. Smooth finish, its supposed to be more chemical resistant with the hardener. The base pan is a Milodon power pan for the stroker. When my friend washed the motor the coating on the pan came off with the rinse so its all orange now.

A couple of small updates. The engine is finally home in my garage for the fist time. This is the closest the car and motor have been to each other.

I spent 2 days in the garage cleaning and prepping the Trans for paint.
I have a new appreciation for Al Morenos' son's patients.

An automotive paint retailer can almost always put any color you need into a spray (rattle) can.... then get yourself a rattle can handle/trigger..... it makes a way more pleasant job out of it and you'll have way more control.

Personally --- I'd use an etching primer first -- then the color... ask your paint store for matching products.

Feeling pretty good but had to shift the focus to the house and yard. Being retired give you plenty of time but the "over time money train" stopped at the last station and left me behind ! Last winter it was so cold in the garage I couldn't keep it warm with my 60,000 btu bullet heater because no insulation or ceiling. With ridge roof vent it was like the door was open. so I'm trying to get wiring and lights finished so I can have spray foam insulation done. I found a guy who does it for a living and gave me a good price. Plus need to finish side walks and around the garage. I'm sick of chasing weeds..
The car is sitting waiting for me to get back at it. I'm making some fuel lines to get from the back of the tank to the front where the filters and pump are located. I was afraid to check my build thread because of feeling like such a slacker.
I'll try to post some small up dates when I get some.
Ric Thanks for checking in over here. I hope to have some updates soon.

Wayne, you must be getting pretty close to an update!

waynieZ
12-20-2014, 04:18 PM
Chief here you go!
Well I did make a decision to change directions on the car a little bit. I think it will help me get it running by spring.
About a month ago I got a nice deal on a Ricks VaporWorks tank and a couple of months ago I picked up the rest of the Vintage air system for the car. Then for the past month I was getting prices on some major parts for the car. They were still a little out of reach at the time.( Which was the cheapest I could find. Thanks Dale ) Then I ordered some small parts and mentioned I was looking for this piece for the car and the dealer I was buying from gave me a killer deal that I couldn't refuse. So Monday I sent a payment for my new power plant for the Camaro.

Its a GM LSA4L85 connect and cruise crate drive train.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w11/Hardcore454/LSA%20%20Motor%20and%20%20Parts/2013-chevrolet-performance-connect-and-cruise-mh-1-1280x5511_zps11058d24.jpg (http://s172.photobucket.com/user/Hardcore454/media/LSA%20%20Motor%20and%20%20Parts/2013-chevrolet-performance-connect-and-cruise-mh-1-1280x5511_zps11058d24.jpg.html)

It come with the engine, trans, and controllers for both with converter and install kit for it. I sill need a front accessory drive. When I ordered the kit I also had them get me a ZL1 lid and a started for it. I'm in contact with C&R Racing They are making me a heat exchanger with one inch hose ends for the Stewart cooling pump I picked up online.
I'll be selling off the 454 and 6 speed kit and the Fast XFI 2.0 once my head stops spinning after this week of excitement.
I borrowed a car from a friend of mine with a stick and it was hell for me to drive with the nerve damage in my left leg, it was no fun and was tuff for me to control feathering the clutch. A slick 6 spd won't do me any good if its not fun to drive.
So that's where we are now. The dealer called and said GM has already released some of my parts to him, but he's waiting on all of them to ship so he can put them all in the crate to save any shipping on the extras I'm buying. He won't be in next week so I don't expect any updates from him until after Christmas oh yes my wife bought my Christmas present for me, a set of American Racing Headers for the swap 1-7/8 x3" stainless long tubes. It should go good with the 3" Magnaflow exhaust that's about 8 years old waiting to be put in.
