So I just picked up a new project. Bought this car last week, and this past sat tore the fenders core support all the wiring. The car had a 305 block that ran like a dog 700r4 tranny. I will be taking this all out and replacing it with either a 383 or LS power and 6 speed I hope. The car lucky has no rust only 2 small places so I got lucky.. Check out those valve covers haha

Go with a LSx motor!! Even if it's carbed for awhile it's a move in the right direction!!

That's what I was thinking as well. Go with the LSX motor!!! Although a nice 383 stroker all done up is a nice motor as well.
Body looks to be in pretty good condition.
GOOD LUCK!!!

No he had no clue about the car We bought it 2 weeks back. I looked up the block numbers it said it was a 305 2 bolt main from 1978-79. It ran like crap too.

yeah I've been looking for a car for months and it seems there are a lot of sellers that don't know anything about what they have, think their $14k car is a barret jackson car, or just seem totally unwilling to answer questions on the phone (which sucks because most cars are at least a 2 hr drive for me to look at).

Jason,
PM sent. What are your goals for the car?
Swain
12-17-2008, 12:54 PM
Well i play on putting a 5 speed in it, the motor not too sure yet probably just a 383 stoker. The front suspension is DSE stage 1 then I will prolly use some Bear Brakes front and rear nothing to crazy. The rear I still have that up in the air as well. The interior was all re done not long ago besides the front seats which I bought some used ones that will be recovered. The body is really straight haven't even started sanding that down. That could get scary. The under neath of the car is good besides the driver side floor has some rot. I probably will replace that piece this weekend, So I can get the sub frame back on to get this project rolling. I bought some global west body mount bushings to use. I will be sure to post pics up this weekend.

So my sheet metal will be mocked up this weekend, and I need to start on my wheels but I cannot think of a color I can settle on. I love the color of Bad Penny but I would then have the same year car and color as Steve and we live in the same county cant have that. The car was black but that's a pain to clean, any other suggestions? I need to know the color of the car to determine what color I will be powder coating the centers. Maybe candy apple red? Maybe a color with a pearl?

Cool color Jay! I think it is a 3 stage metallic or pearlescent paint with mica rock in it instead of powdered metal. Reflects AND refracts light unlike other metallics. Very glittery with cool illumination changes. It's a nice, deep red. BTW, love the build

Few updates.
Car is off at Settin Trendz up in Fresno, They are going to work their Magic on the Custom Fab things i wanted done, also paint.
Picked up a LS3 long block from a friend for practically nothing. The engine was in a 1960 Impala for a month then the car had a small electrical fire which the intake had melted and left crap all over the engine. I tore the heads off sent them to the media blaster and now getting ready to put it back together.
The engine was a GM Crate with the 480 Cam upgrade. Should be a decent starter engine.

You got it John. We block up to the tape line (one edge is on the bodyline), then put the tape on the other side of the line and do it again. Like Jay said, it keeps the bodyline straight and crisp.

I've never seen this build thread somehow. I love the front end mods--that is one of the coolest setups i've seen yet. Outstanding! I may have missed it, but did you decide on wheel color yet? The gold would look awesome with the right wheel for sure and would set your car apart even more so. Gold sounds risky--but you are working at the right place to do it over and over. Glad you found a great deal on the LS3 also--that is great.

That's looking great! It looks a bit more subtle or less one-off than in the rendering. Please don't take that as condescending because I don't mean it to be. I am just trying to say I notice a little less of the shape depicted in the rendering and the valance does not show the crease depicted that follows the contour of the tips. I had noticed that the rendering mimiced the shape of the front valance in the rear.
I sincerely envy those wheels. My $.02 is to stick with a silver/gray/brushed/blasted finish. The gold may work with that color but given your other accessories I would continue the theme.

We are going to fatten up the area around the body line on the tips. Also have to talk to Adam on the bumper he said he narrowed it, so I think it will look best either Brushed or Body Color, even charcoal grey which I may do with all the billet parts, exhaust, and wheel centers. We are almost there. :unibrow:

Does anybody know if that overhang is alot more than DSE headers?

I am new on Lateral-G and have spent way too many hours trying to read up on everyone's build projects. When I was in high school I had a red '68 and still think that may have been the best car I've owned for fun. So really like reading about yours. I'm also a HB native and will be watching the streets to see if I spot your when you hit the road. Any chance of seeing new pictures of the wheels on the car in the sun soon?
Would love to see some more pics of this amazing ride!
Great Job

Wow, car looks great. Nice looking wheels. Color looks better in the sun then in your garage, so thanks for posting the pictures. Which wiring harness did you decide to go with?
Just happy you are making progress on the car. And now it's a father/son project with his pitching in to help with the wiring. You'll be on the road soon enough that this will be a memory of the great time you had making "Your" car. Even better than the days of going to the dealership and having them fill in the order form for which options you wanted. Since this car will be better than anything GM ever offered for the Camaro back then.
So good luck and best wishes on a successful completion.

Sorry those wheels are just rollers. My wheels will be ready in about 2 weeks or so. They will be coated Charcoal grey, the complete wheel. Those are some ugly Intro Wheels with a million bolts.
Wire Harness I went with AAW Classic Update. It's a pretty nice kit.
