Frame Table

I am going to start building a frame/chassis table and was wondering what the length, width of anyone that has one should be?

How big of a car are you working on? Do you want the wheels/tires to rest on the outer frame rails?

The one I built is 18' long and 5' wide.

I'm planning to do mine 20x6. 2x4or6 - 1/8th wall main structure. I'm thinking 2ft off the ground. Heavy casters with a flip down stabilizer on each leg.

Would be great to see pics of some of the pros tables, and things that they would suggest?:thumbsup:

WE built one out of 12" x 1/4 I beam, maybe over kill but it sure dont move. we put big 12" castors on it and 1 1/4 leveling bolts on all four corners. and we dont weld to it, we used to have a 2x4x1/4 wall table and it moved arround to much. the other option but its expensive is a 5x10x 1" plate but almost impossible to move, our table for building the subframes is 4x8x1" and it weight about 1000 lbs

I'm not a pro - but built one for my 356G project. It's a bolt together deal and when you pull the 2 upper or lower leg bolts - it folds flat for storage on the wall or against the wall. You can take it totally apart if you want to.

It has leveling casters on the 4 corners - with just levelers in the center posns. The casters are non-marr types so they don't tear up my epoxy floor but they are expensive - so I have an option for replacing them with a less expensive type and adding levelers in the lower hoop. If anyone is intersted I can post the measured drawings and materials listing.

PS, Make sure you set the lower rail above the height of your engine hoist so you can roll the hoist in/out.

mine is made from 2-1/2 x 2-1/2 .188 wall it is 16'5" x 6' wide it was made from 100' of tubing

Our table is 9/16" Plate steel with I-beam legs and it's HEAVY!! We don't move it around since it's in a dedicated work space. It is balanced though so when empty we place a floor jack under the tube in the center that you can see hanging down from the middle and 2 people can move it around easily....but this isn't an option with a car on it. Our table has to fit multiple needs so if building one for a single project your dimensions and features need to be considered to fit your build needs.

Nice table Jim!

My advice is make sure it bolts together if you're limited on space. Mine is 3"X3", 1/4" thick, 6 legs, and it all bolts together.
