This has always been a concern when using the g-bar / air-bar and routing exhaust. Talking with Rodger (Ironworks) last night about routing the exhaust on my car he didn't think it would be that difficult to fabricate.

If your fuel tank is narrowed it won't be a problem, if you don't then it makes things that much harder.

I've seen it done a couple different ways, neither of them were that impressive... I'm sure Rodger will post up a few pictures of the exhaust as soon as it's finished.

BTW, how's your builder coming along with the deadline?

I did stay with a stock tank and added sump and baffling to it. So yes it will be interesting on the exhaust. Might do a turn down right behind the rear tires I am thinking.

The build is coming along lately I think. Going up next week to check it out. Apparently he has been actually workin on my car! :D

look forward to your car's pics.

I may have put my foot in my mouth but it should fit. We have done way tighter exhaust then that on quite a few cars. So I guess this just seems easy. I will let you know what we find.

Cool, thanks Rodger. Please post pics when you can! :D

frank did a pretty impresive job on empty nest but i cant seem to find the picks anymore:_paranoid hopefully he will chime in.
also ATS is doing an exhaust on todds(vegas69) car right now and he has the g-bar.

Yeah I PM'ed Frank.

Todd replied to my thread on pro-touring and said he is doing dumps now.

It's like fitting your size 10 foot in a size 8 shoe. 3 inchers are going to be super tough unless you buy ovals or don't want your car as low as possible. Notching the trunk is the best way.

Damn. Good chance I may follow you and just go loud ass dumps after muffler before axle!

They notched the trunk on Lisa's car.

Dog earing the fuel tank is a big help. You can always go to 2.5" after the mufflers with little if any power loss....really depends on motor output I guess. Personally I would do what ever it took to get the pipes to the rear of the car.

What are we down to....one more week before the homecoming? :unibrow:

My tank is notched but you have to get your pipes past that wicked bend and upper link first. 2.5 inchers would defiintely help. :D

The exhaust on Velocity is really simple (ok, we cheated and used an aftermarket tank). But it simply goes under the rear end:

I don't think many are excited about exhaust under the rear end. Looks kind of half assed if you ask me.:D

Yeah I would probably rather dump it before axles than go under it...

I don't understand the reluctance to run exhaust under the rear? We have done a couple of cars this way and both work just like any other exhaust. You can't see it from the rear, and it doesn't hit the ground, so where's the problem? Just cause it's always gone over the rear does not necessarily mean it always has to go there.

Velocitys pipes looks just right. Since the has low stance pipes can go under the axle as well as over it. I dont see much difference.

You could see it on mine and for instance adjusting your rear coilovers would require the exhaust to be removed so you could take the pressure off the springs and let the rear end droop. Hey it's a killer car just purely stating my 8 cents worth on why I don't want it that way.

Understood. I get caught up in my little "air bag" world and forget about those who have to crawl under the car to adjust coil-overs.

I'll see if I can dig up any pictures that route 3" over the rear.

you can start with camaro taipipes, add 4 mandrel 90s and go to town, the camaro tailpipes go at an angle when going over axle, so you need to cut them on the front side of the axle on the vertical part and clock them so the pipe going over axle points right at fuel tank and is parallel with car center line, install a 90º go out towards side of car, install another 90º to get exhaust going back to tailpanel and finish how you want.

pretty easy i have done about 4 of them, and the air bar uses the same style pipes as the quadra link.

Jake did a awesome job. We cannot mandrel bend 3" (1) piece tailpipes that sharp. It would have to be fabed from bends like Jake did. It does get more tricky though if you slam the car. At the ride height we run EmptyNest, there is absolutly no room for 3" tailpipes. Actually at EmptyNest ride height, 2 1/2" tailpipes would not clear either. But on most cars 2 1/2" will clear at a nice low (3" drop) ride height.

Vegas 69 is not quite as low as EmptyNest, but probably to low for 3" tailpipes. Vinnies car is a little taller then both.
