Looking at a lot of the Camaros on this site very few people seem to run the RS hideaway headlight option. Is this due to the additional cost/work involved or the fact that people just don't like them. It's time for me to decide which way I'm going to go with this on my '69, as I have both the standard & RS set up, but just can't make up my mind. Your thoughts please.;)

Personally I prefer the standard grille over the RS.

One problem with the RS is the vacuum dooractuators. There is a lot of stuff that will be needed for the vacuum to work.

If you'll go with the RS there are electric actuators you can use. The kits that are around uses linear motors. It is quite easy to build such a kit yourself, linear motors can be found in most electronic warehouses.

there both sharp, but i think that the 69 rs front is one of the sharpest grille headlamp combos ever. be sure to check out the detroit speed electric motor conversion.(worth every penny in saved headaches) bill

I had the standard set up on my 67 and have converted it to the RS. I used electric motors and it wasn't to hard to do. I would recommend the DSE motors.

It's a decision only you can make. I like both personally. The reason I picked standard is, I think it's a more muscular look on a 69. On the 67-68 not so much.

I think the RS front end on the 69 is the best look possible. I also would recommend the DSE motor kit, eliminates the undependable vacuum setup.

I go both ways...we're still talking headlights right? Ok, good!

Will you be using an intercooler...sometimes that can be an issue.

I think it depends on the rest of the car/trim really.

I've always been on the fence, liked the standard before I owned FUel and the RS is growing on me since. I've had a couple malfunction issues with my DSE RS system, minor and they are totally helping me fix it. I'd go either way... maybe straying to the standard side of things to keep it simple

A limited amount of cars came with the RS package.

If you are just asking for opinions...... The hideaways are a MUST have IMO.

It also depends on what you like in the way of trim. Do you like the RS taillights, etc? Not that you have to run them. Marquez makes killer RS taillights and the word is the backup lights will be out eventually.

I've struggled with the same questions, but decided to go with standard headlights... and maybe billet bowties...:unibrow:

Off topic, but Killer pic of the 'ol '69. Having the car in color and everything else B/W looks great.

Charley took that pic at his house, but Scott did the color/black and white deal. I agree, it's a unique look done that way.

I like the RS but then my car is an original RS :)

I don't bother opening the headlight doors at night as I have plenty of light showing through the door slots to see from, especially with brighter headlight units.

Hi guys, thanks for the input on this thread. I've attached a pic of how the car will probably look if I ran with the standard headlights. I've photo shopped a pic of a car & added a set of headlight covers like Musclecar Johns yellow '69. The car will also be running Minilite wheels with the centres painted black & it will have an Endura bumper fitted. Unfortunately I can't photo shop what it'd look like with the RS option :( but the idea of hideaways is really appealing. The car's painted Audi brilliant red & will have black Z/28 stripes & possibly a black roundal on the door for the race numbers to be fitted to.The car's being built to run as a road legal historic circuit racer.

Mine does not have the RS grille, I want it, but opted not to get it at now. From what I recall Jody saying you don't have to open the headlight doors if you don't want to. I think the lights are bright enough without them opening... Rick confirmed this...

If I run the RS option I won't have the doors opening as I want to save on weight & keep things simple. I just hope that the lights would do the job with the doors closed:unibrow:

My vote is for the RS (I am biased though) Here is mine with HID Headlights and closed doors:

I really dislike the standard 67 grille, and feel the RS is a must have for that year. The 68 grille is still boring to me, but not as bad as the 67's flat grille. On the 69, the standard and the RS grilles are a toss up to me. Flip a coin, I suppose.
