View Full Version : Got a offer on the Mustang...

I have a guy overseas that really wants my Mustang. He just called me and made me a 6 figure offer.. I really am torn if I should sell it or not. I love the car, never drive it but it looks good in the garage next to the Camaro. If I sold it, I would just go get something else I'm sure but it wouldn't be something I built..
What do you guys think?

I have not seen many Mustangs bringing that kind of cash, but not many are as nice as yours. Remind me, is that a real Mach 1?
I really like the set of matching 69's. If you are going to turn around and replace it with another 69 fast back...not sure I would sell.

Man - that's a tough call. The money doesn't sound too bad though?????? I really like that car. I'd say if the money isn't an issue, I'd keep it. Let us know what you decide.

1. You don't need the money
2. You would just have to build something else
So, unless the offer is for way more than it's worth then I would keep it.
By the way, what is your flooring material? I'm getting ready to redo my garage.
My car misses your garage.. lol

Oh it's real money, I know the guy..
Steve, it's scored & stained concrete. I have the same in both garages but I'm having the other "everyday" garage redone with more of a textured finish. I can't tell you how many times I have hit the abs brakes when I pull in with wet tires!:D
Thanks for the input guys, I think if he REALLY wants it, he will come back with another offer then we will see..for now I told him no.

That is my favorite Mustang, but a six-figure offer is also very tempting. I guess I'm not very sentimental about cars, I'm always looking to move them and start the next project up. But, I'm sure we can both agree that the price is always higher when we don't "need" to sell a car. In fact, all of my current cars are always for sale at any time. The prices are just absurd until I get bored of them though. haha

If you have more than the 6 fiqures in the car then keep it.
if your putting money in your pocket then sell it and build another.

Hold out for more money since the exchange rates are so good for them he is getting it cheap. I have seen a ton of cars leaving the country latley.

A six figure offer is only good if it's MORE than the cost to duplicate the car. That's assuming SW would replace it which he said he would.
I was offered "six figures" for my car, but turned it down since, if I built another one, I would have to put in hundreds and hundreds of hours. Selling a car a your "break even" point isn't a good financial plan if your just going to go build another one. lol
People ask me if my car is for sale and I always reply "Everything is always for sale" ;)

Wow nice Mustang and fleet!
It's an amazing car, one of my all time favorites. I'd LOVE to own a duplicate of it.

Good call SW...I've got a buddy just stuck on both the '69 Boss 302 & the Z/28 so he owns both.
Not a Ford fan by any stretch of the imagination but that is the best year for the Mustang....and yours is world-class.:hail:

Great Call. Not every car is sweet enough to be a magazine car. And I have not seen a Mustang as sweet as yours other than the 69 Mustang Convertible a member built here with the fastback quarters. Black too, Super sweet SW...good move.

Sw..build a stroker 454 Ford....427 with a 428 crank. A friend had one built by John Vermeesch in Michigan. It was a strong motor and sounded killer.

Don't sell the 69 Camaro either! I saw it posted in your "for sale" on your online photo album!
Nice cars...All of them!
Look forward to seeing you at TWS again sometime. I will hopefully be driving the next event you're at. I'm about to graduate so my corner working days at the racetrack are almost over.

I say NO. It obviously doesn't look like your hurting for cash and it would be a shame to leave the Camaro lonely for a short period of time. BTW, what lifts do you use in your garage?

SW I say sell it. It seems your more of a "drive and wrench" kind of guy than a "polish and stare" kind. If your not done with than keep it but if you don't drive it than sell and fill that lift with something you will drive...Or send it to me for safe keeping. That way you'll have the room to buy something else.(I'm just here to help:unibrow: ) Larry

Id keep it the 65-70 mustang fastbacks are going up in value fast your lucky to find one under 10 grand and your lucky to find a drive able one under 30k.One hundred grand is nothing for a early mustang now a Shelby or a drag package or a twister mach1 break that mark easy.Id hang on it to and call it my 401k.

In all seriousness, a very good point. Those cars aren't hard to find and there's plenty of capable shops out there, you don't have to wait around for DS&E or Foose. Scott didn't. He found a shop right there in Minnesota that did a tremendous job. Lots of great shops out there; Prodigy, G-Force, Schwartz...the list goes on and on.

I would keep it for sure.....by far the baddest Mustang I have seen. Man...I should have paid attetion in school more......:hail:
Depends on the number that is in front of all the zeros. I don't know the car [and I thought I knew ALL the cool 69's!] but I can see 50k in paint, and 8k in wheels and tires. A decent core car is 20k, engine from 10-30k, 3-6k for brakes, 5-20k for interior...but you already know all this. The rest of those cars and that garage din't suddenly drop from the sky...
We have built cars similar...its a 150k gig for a driver...more if you want real horsepower or unique goodies.
If hotrods were purely a financial matter, none would have ever been built. Passion is a much better motivator than money anyway!
Me...I'd turn it because I would have a whole list of stuff I'd do different on the next one. Tough decision...good luck!

You absolutly nailed that one this is how we look in europe :unibrow: . And another thing I dont see what exchange rate has to with not selling the car, in Norway were I live I have to pay 25% tax on the things i import so dont come and say it's cheap. As I see it if the price is what you would be happy with, sell it it's as simple as that. If you ask me I would never sell it
