I'm brand new to the turbo world, so don't know **** about them. I've been reading alot but I've got alot to learn.

I'm looking for some suggestions on which turbo to use. I spoke to some of the companies at SEMA, but wanted to get some more input from guys that have used turbos before.

My plan is to do a twin turbo 6.1 modern HEMI. The car will be a street driven car and my HP goal is around 800 HP (but want the ability to go up alittle bit from there, but not over 1000 HP for sure).

The motor will be specifically built for boost applications....i.e not just adding stuff to a stock crate motor.

I've looked at the Garret and Turbonetics stuff mostly.

So .....any suggestions??

Id suggest Garrett, if your looking for sizes thats a whole other ballgame since you didnt say if you were into journal bearing or ball bearing also if you want to go smaller on the twins for a faster spool or a larger set to support 4 digits. A pair of gt35rs will get you your 800 hp with room to grow and on that motor should spool up fairly quickly. The bill for those turbos aint cheap though at roughly 2700 bucks for the pair. Turbos as with cams are a tradeoff, you gotta give up power in one area to gain it in another and sometimes its not that big of a deal and sometimes thats what breaks you. hope that helps

I'd like the car to spool up pretty quick since its a street driven car. Plus space is a factor, so I'd lean towards a smaller turbo as long as I can acheive my 800 HP with room to grow to 1000 HP if wanted (I'm not really planning on exceeding the 1000 HP range, since in my opinion thats just not practical on the street)

Since its a street car I want my power curve to be at the lower end rather than have to spin the motor up just to get into the meat of the power/TQ curve.

I'm still researching the ball bearing vs. journal bearing, but from what I've learned so far, I'm leaning towards ball bearing.....correct me if I'd be better to go with journal bearing....

water cooled ball bearing will spool quicker and keep the oil cooler. A buddy has a pair of GT30 equivalents on an LS2 and is making 800 rwhp, and they spool very fast. So GT35's would definitely get you there.

well actual physical dimensions of a gt35 isnt THAT bad. Granted your hemi is a wide motor and packaging any pair of turbos is gonna be a headache but a gt35 compressor cover is pretty much the same size as any other to4e sized cover, the inlet however is freakin monstrous and looks like it can suck up small kittens and possibly the dog chasing it:P :P the GT turbo though can on average produce more power throughout the rpm range than an equivalent T series journal bearing turbo. Trade off there for most people is cost since a GT is normally about 3x more expensive not to mention cannot be repaired, so if you do happen to eat up poor fluffy and your turbine or compressor feel get bent up or an unfortunate situation where you starve those guys oil and cook the center section, you get to buy a full new turbo. Thats not the case with the T series. Personally I dont mind the journal turbos cause in my world I can find better ways to spend my money, however, in the world of 800+ hp, a few grand is probably not gonna make as big a dent in your pocket when you consider the upsides versus the downsides of running the dual ball bearing GT turbos. I say run what I suggested and get creative on where you stick em.

Left is the GT35R "E" cover, right is the smaller T04 "B" cover.

You could get 800rwhp out of a pair of GT35Rs, with damn fine spool. 1000rwhp would be on the upper end at 6.1L, you're on the high side of the map- but if it doesn't live there all the time, I think it's a combo you'd really like. To aid in spool, try to keep the turbos as close to the head as possible.

I do belive Nitrorocket has (#s wise) a similar combo; I'd chat with him about driveability.
