More on the bellhousing/adapter combo... Not going to use the factory Corvette torque tube because of size limitations (Too bulky and would have to be shortened anyway). The adapter & carrier bearing will make it possible to use a slip yoke driveshaft instead. The bearing was purchased at a specialty race shop in Portland.
Hopefully the pics will make more sense.

Ordered the brakes last on Friday....
Baer 6S MonoBlock Caliper with 15" 2-piece Rotor.
http://www.baer.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=914&g2_serialNumber=2
Now that these are on order, custom 3-piece forged wheels can be ordered based off of the rotor dimensions.
The hold up now are the wheels. Too many decisions and a lot of $$$ to spend based off of pictures on the internet...
Apparently, a lot of 3-piece wheel manufacturers use the same rim manufacturer and the widest width available is only 11"

2. Can't wait to watch this build
3. Is this being built in a Home Shop ??
4. Another wheel manufacture that you may want to look at is DPE Engineering (( www.dpengineering.cc )) They shouldn't have a problem going up to 14" wide
5. If you guy's need to borrow a wheel backspacing tool just shoot me an e-mail and i'll send it to you. ( this one actually mounts a real tire )
6. Did i mention that this is a really cool project
ps - i think i just started smoking

aftering looking at that website, they look familiar to me. I'm pretty sure my dad looked in to the DPE wheels. He bought the tires from America's tire in Portland and the sales guy is trying to get the wheel sale as well. He told my dad that DPE has bad customer service or something along those lines IIRC...
He will order direct or through a distributor depending on price etc.. He is also able to get a break on some things (like the brakes) through the street rod shop he works at. I'll have to ask him again about DPE's....
5. If you guy's need to borrow a wheel backspacing tool just shoot me an e-mail and i'll send it to you. ( this one actually mounts a real tire )

it can be done but it all depends on the rim, you cant with most road rims
The touring cars (v8 super cars down here in australia run 375mm (14.76") rotors under 17 x 11 rims and they are a tight squeeze

wow wow wow wow wow... :wow: Your dad is doing almost exactly what I was intending to do with a 70 Mustang Fastback - C5 (or 6) suspension with stock mounting configuration, rear trans for weight distribution, shell of a body over full tube chassis, obviously non-Chevy engine with clutch up front adapted with custom torque tube, etc etc. Only difference is I would have lightweight 18s all around and thinner wall chromoly for road racing and that is it and this is the only other time I have ever seen a build so close to what I am expecting to do.
Definitely a cool build - I can't wait to see the full solution for how to mate the Mopar clutch setup to a custom tube to the Corvette rear diff/transaxle setup. It looks like he is going down a similar path to what I had envisioned with a support bearing at the flange and so forth, but I haven't really sat down to reason that out completely.
 Best of luck, can't wait to follow along.
edit - oh yeah, your Dad has some amazing welding skills too judging from the '33. Very nice and clearly a meticulous dude! I am meticulous, I just ain't near that good hahah.

this has to be one of my most favorite builds to watch.
Thank you very much for posting pics
:wow:  I agree, I am happy you are posting build pics. As said earlier, I have been cultivating an idea for a 70 Mustang that is very similar and it is cool to see someone else with similar ideas. Moving the front wheels is a cool idea and without elongating the front end is  It will be so subtle most won't notice it, which makes it a great idea. And going up one inch to unshroud the wheel... nice. I wouldn't notice it. At SEMA there was a pretty sweet Camaro but I just couldn't put my finger on what was odd until I found the builder and asked if he elongated the front end and he smiled and said good eye, first to catch it. Your mod will "feel" right and only a die-hard Mopar guy might catch it.
Again, great craftsmanship and can't wait for more updates. I personally really like the rocker idea, I didn't think of boxing in my own rail v. using 2x4 beam and setting the car on it, so that is really trick thinking.

Little overdue, but better late than never.....

http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/4928/chassisprogressupdates0dg0.jpg
I can't say enough good things about the brakes. The quality and precision is top notch. The 6 piston 6S calipers are machined from a single piece of aluminum and the anodized coating is the icing on the cake! Baer's customer service is unbelievable as well. They have gone above and beyond our expectations and I would recommend them to anyone in the market for high performance brakes!

nice... like the exterior. Subtle and sleek. Is the interior going to be orange as implied? Or something more subtle like black with orange accents similar to the exterior? Also, tho' I am not a big fan of large diam wheel look, I dig the five-spoke design choice as well. Something about muscle cars of any flavor and 5 spoke wheels (pseudo reminiscent of the Magnum 500 and variations on that design) just always works.
oh, and diggin' all the progress pics, thanks again for being so open about posting the build. Can't wait to see the rolling chassis, let alone the finished project!

What would you like to know?
A little background on your Dad.
Fairly certain that he works at SAR and it looks like he's doing his own thing now ???
Thanks TJ! It's been a pleasure working with you guys as well. I love when a project goes like this, just bouncing ideas around on paper until we get all those subtle variables ironed out for a killer final product.
Great to see the shop and work with you guys and the car in person too. Well worth the drive! I'm stoked to see the car develop and honored to be so involved and entrusted with the very first job out of the shop. I look forward to many more and will do my part to spread the word!
You guys can see the workmanship in the photos and it's even more impressive in person. There aren't that many shops that can bring a bare metal shell to a show and draw a crowd, much less put all their work right there to examine without any paint or interior, etc to hide things. This thing is going to blow people's minds and get your shop the exposure you deserve when you hit the shows this month. See you in Seattle!
The interior is natural colored leather like a baseball mitt like you'd see in a Porsche or Ferrari.
syborg tt
02-06-2008, 11:00 AM
Correct. He worked at SAR for the last ~9 years up until December.... My dad and I decided to go for it and here we are.... His fabrication background started 30+ years ago building conveyor systems, robotic welding systems, etc before he went to Steve's (with a lot of cool projects on the side through the years). My aunt had a 70 Challenger and that is the first car he drove in high school. One of the first projects he worked on was the Chip Foose designed RealMad Nomad with C5 front & rear suspension back in the late 90's.
Pretty cool - So are you also a fabricator.
PS - The RealMad Nomad is one of my favorite Cars. Way ahead of it's time

Traveled to the rod show in Portland Oregon today and had the pleasure of meeting Tim and his son TJ(good guys to talk w/and Tims got the gift when it comes to building cars). I gotta tell you, the car and the craftmenship is absolutely amazing. Throughout our conversation, I just could not take my eyes off of it and found myself returning to there booth throughout the day for more looks and pictures. If your looking for a builder, you cannot go wrong w/these guys. It would have been nice to meet you two about a year ago. What a stance! TJ gave me the ok to post a pic, but there's no way it will do the car justice, you need to see this one in person.

Couple drawings of the 6.1 HEMI intake designed by Bob at Automotive Design Engineering. Not a lot of room in the engine bay on this car since the chassis is built with a low ride height. We gave Bob a pretty tight height window to work with. The Dual throttle bodies will tuck nicely benath the R/T hood Can't wait for the finished product...
The intake will be fabricated in house once we receive all of the machined goodies....

I waited too long (no vacancy at near by holiday inn's), so the "America's Best Value Inn Columbus North" will have to do. :_paranoid

Congrats guys!! Car is coming out awesome. Like the article said - Kind of shame to cover all the metal work with paint. You guys do top notch work. When it comes to round tube chassis', not sure who is more talented with the bender - you guys or Ironworks. Two extremely tough acts to follow in that dept. Look forward to seeing it done.
