You are correct Flash. :unibrow:
It's a can't miss combo of a black pro-touring '55 built by renowned NW builder Weld & Weld...(and than weld some more).
:D
You mean, 'World renowned,' right?

Everything done @ home except for the engine machine work.
Its a work in progress, now that the shell is painted we are fixing to dig into the front sheet metal. I finished up my custom lower valance the other week and we test hung the front sheet metal.
The last shot is a pix of our little paint booth :willy:

Coming from You ,,Thanks for comment!!! Speaking of tools,, Don't by the Craftsman Laser with tripod base,,A plumb bob doesn't lie, their Laser did,, after ,taking it apart, removing the bubble, re-glueing it then aligning it ,about 2hrs,, yes i killed the warranty,, most calibrated machinist levels don't lie !!A blind man must have tested the Laser !!

Im 22 and this is my first build on my own. Im in the navy, so my time is limited, and the garage is small to say the least.

Thanks a lot man...I am really going to miss this car but one of my parents may be diagnosed with cancer and prior to knowing this they were going to help out with wedding costs....well, I can't in good conscience take money from them knowing what could possibly be. That being said, the Cutlass you see behind it in the one pic is my next PT project!

100% home built thus far, Includes body and chasis fabrication and some paint. Engine machine work and Interior will probally be farmed out. I may have to farm out the paint, cause my garage is not big enough and attached to the house. (makes the house smell for days!)
Hi nice rotisserie any plans you can share?

I am pretty stoked on this one honestly! I spoke at length with Mark from SC&C and we have a absolutely filthy suspension set-up ready to go.
For a while I will be rockin' her in all her ugliness but it is going to ride like it is on rails.
I will be starting a build thread tomorrow. Stay tuned! Been doing motor work for a while now.

Jack of all trades Master of None! I do my own start to finish. The most time consuming is the paint/body and takes me a long time. This car took me 4yrs.

Fairly new member here, been doing a bunch of reading and learning from you guys ... quietly.
I'm building an 86 Cutlass and only seen 2 other g-bodies in this whole thread. Thought I'd add mine.
It started out as *homebuilt*.
http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv199/86Cutlass383SR/th_CIMG0033.jpg (http://s683.photobucket.com/albums/vv199/86Cutlass383SR/?action=view¤t=CIMG0033.jpg)
I did manage to get some work started on it. Pulled the front end and then the motor and tranny ...
http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv199/86Cutlass383SR/th_CIMG0124.jpg (http://s683.photobucket.com/albums/vv199/86Cutlass383SR/?action=view¤t=CIMG0124.jpg)
After sitting in the back yard for 3 years (collecting parts and saving money) and finally getting started on it, the good city I live in said that was a no-no and offered to tow it away for me ...
So, I had it moved to a buddies house. At this point it was no longer *home-built*, at least not my home...
I got a bit more work accomplished on it here:
http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv199/86Cutlass383SR/th_CIMG0244.jpg (http://s683.photobucket.com/albums/vv199/86Cutlass383SR/?action=view¤t=CIMG0244.jpg)http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv199/86Cutlass383SR/th_CIMG0266.jpg (http://s683.photobucket.com/albums/vv199/86Cutlass383SR/?action=view¤t=CIMG0266.jpg)http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv199/86Cutlass383SR/th_CIMG0267.jpg (http://s683.photobucket.com/albums/vv199/86Cutlass383SR/?action=view¤t=CIMG0267.jpg)
About a month ago he had to move and I had to find a new parking space...again. A trusted friend I work with offered to trailer it to his house until I can find another place to store it. I found a place and now just need to get it there.
Maybe someday I'll be able to catch up to it long enough to get my 383 and T56 in it and running. When it can move under it's own power again, it'll be parked back under MY shadetree.
I only WISH I had a garage ...
A few random pics of my build so far ...
http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv199/86Cutlass383SR/th_CIMG0161.jpg (http://s683.photobucket.com/albums/vv199/86Cutlass383SR/?action=view¤t=CIMG0161.jpg)http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv199/86Cutlass383SR/th_CIMG0134.jpg (http://s683.photobucket.com/albums/vv199/86Cutlass383SR/?action=view¤t=CIMG0134.jpg)http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv199/86Cutlass383SR/th_CIMG0136.jpg (http://s683.photobucket.com/albums/vv199/86Cutlass383SR/?action=view¤t=CIMG0136.jpg)http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv199/86Cutlass383SR/th_CIMG0228.jpg (http://s683.photobucket.com/albums/vv199/86Cutlass383SR/?action=view¤t=CIMG0228.jpg)http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv199/86Cutlass383SR/th_CIMG0283.jpg (http://s683.photobucket.com/albums/vv199/86Cutlass383SR/?action=view¤t=CIMG0283.jpg)
I know it's a crappy pic but here's the previous version I built. It died a dignified death of cancer and all the good parts are being transfered to my 86. It was built in a garage, my hephews. He filled it up and I no longer have access to it.

Well, aside from taking my car body to a chemical stripper it's been all home built so far. Mostly my garage but some of the welding has been done at my neighbor's garage.

IMO building a car yourself, making things work in different or better ways is at the core of the Hot Rod spirit.I subscribe to this philosophy.Store bought cars(checkbook cars) are cool but they are a possession not an accomplishment. My $.02 Frank

Here's the difference - to me - of home build vs ebay'd....
I build and do everything I can myself... I agree with you - that is the spirit of the hobby of hot rodding...
My buddy bought a 32 Ford recently... it's been to my house several times since for minor add ons or fixes. He called and said his brake lights weren't working - to which I said - you have the memory of a peanut, because I fixed that a couple of weeks ago by unplugging and plugging back in the brake lead on the master cylinder. He says "where's that"? I said "under the chassis at the end of the brake pedal".... Oh, he says... will you look at it for me? NO! Was my response...
IMHO he doesn't deserve to own it.

I really like looking at all of the high dollar builds on here and pro-touring. But, I find myself just skimming the pages and looking at the pictures. When I see a car being built at home with the owners blood, sweat, and tears I will pretty much read the whole build. I like seeing the messy garages, cramped quarters, and tools all over the ground. Makes me feel right at home.

I restored my car not once but twice in my garage. Started out as a numbers matching RS 327 and pretty much did everything except body and paint. The first go around it was restored to original and stayed til last December when I decided to give it a strictly bolt on pro touring feel and dropped in a new engine. We used 99-02 firebird seats. Here is a link to the build. There is 5 different albums and the interior pictures are in Marks 69 camaro finished car. The headrest has been shaved down also to fit the seat better.

I've done about 65-70% of mine and climbing. (Time) Wouldn't have it any other way. Nobody has your taste. You need the skills and tools to build a really well put together car however. It does save a boat load of cash. I've probably saved $30,000-$40,000 in labor.

Hopefully this is not too off topic, but there's something going on with your car that I'd like to point out. Judging by your avatar you don't mind beating on your high end muscle car. That is a trait seen more in those that do thier own work. A testament to the fact that we have more fun with our cars. And although my cars aren't any where near the caliber of yours, i've tried to do most of my work im my one car garage or a driveway. We did my Mustang's suspension and disc brake conversion in a buddie's driveway.

Well here you go.

Every once in a while I get the guy at an autocross that says "It's a shame to race that beautiful car". I've always come back with it's a shame not to use the car for it's intended purpose. To drive it! Clearly looks are important to me, but using it is MORE important. I like function and form in the same package. :unibrow: That's the hard part.

I know it's not a 67 or 68 and not even in the same universe as a garage build, but Foose is working on a pretty radical 65 right now. I'm curious to see how that goes.

Hey guys thought id share a few pics of my build "I know its a pro STREET" lol thats why i havent posted a lot of pics up on the site of it, but it has had sooo many subtle changes and mods done to it, and i finally go it in some new shoes and a first coat of fill primer lol, The car has taken alittle why'll to get done by myself.
So here it is my 48 Fleetline Pro Street Built right here in my Garage,
My blue nova is posted a few post above this one its been finished for a few years i did make some recent upgrades to it lately in my other shop.

Mine is 100% except paint built by just ol plain me.
Was to be a Bad ass PT car, then i went back to the track so it gets built as a Street Machine, but now i have second (make that third) toughts...and planning a slow turn around back to Pt to some extent :-)

From this;

then this came along...
http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q251/Leadfoot1969/DSC02528.jpg
And i farmed out the paint but did the hardcore of the body (patch and replacement)
You can see this pic on page 5 of car craft Feb 11 !!! (I was freakin out as i did not write in for that, but what a pleasant surprise!)
http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q251/Leadfoot1969/DSC03895.jpg
And i'm putting it back together all alone and doing good, but yeah, i would like it to sit on its 19 x 8 and 20 x 13 Forgelines on 345mm wide P-Zero's, at this point, i think it would look really killer. I'll get it rolling and see afterwards if i come back being a Lateral G Practicing member lol!!

Sorting and routing one wire at a time doesn't mean you have to terminate it until you have the bundle together and routed and tied etc. The mistake is to terminate it before you've made your runs and have everything tied down.
Trust me - I've built and or restored 20+ cars. If you just handle and worry about one wire at a time - it's a whole lot less "daunting" task. Most people go wire crazy staring at that batch of spaghetti and can't even get started. My statement about one wire at a time is to help someone get started. Grab one wire - route it - LOOSELY - leave the wire ties BIG/loose but be able to create a "route" and a associated hanger. They can be cut off and changed as needed. Run one wire to it's location - and LABEL IT. Once the loom is established you can go back and tighten things up.
If you have a new loom -- it helps to lay it out on the floor - running common wires in a bundle with wire ties -- such as the dash/taillights/engine etc - then you can lay it up in the car and have big "general" runs which can then be worked on individually.
I'm rewiring my brother in laws 69 Camaro with a Hiway 22 kit (American Autowire) and it will take me two days and will be completely done. There is a method to doing this but anyone can do it.

I havn't posted in quite a while, been busy with teenage sons and life in general. But here's the latest of my garage project. It's almost back together enough to drive around to block before I blow it all back apart to set up the LS1 in the subframe and send it off for powdercoating. Small block is a well built 377, but I scored a deal I couldn't pass up for an LS1 takeout complete with harness and ECU. I'll bolt that to my ST10 tranny with a mecloed bellhousing. Anyway, heres a few pics.... Anybody in the market for a 377?

This is 3 years in the making, mainly home but not entirely. I bought it from a friend who had just reworked the motor but ran into an electrical problem and gave up. That was 6 years before I bought it. I fixed the problem and $18k later I pulled out of paint. Ive done a Hotchkis TVS, Baer brake conversion, Exhaust, poly bushings, 4.10 gears with eaton posi, and put wheels on it. Im in the process of putting a t56 in it,finishing the interior, lowering some more, some 18s all around- gonna try to squeeze 18x8.5 front and 18x9.5 rear:D

Keep it up man, mine is hitting the street in max 2 weeks... (waiting on new wheels problem and a distributor replacement, need the exhaust hung up --after wheel shows up--and thats it!!!)
Looking at your painted sheetmetal valve covers makes me think i might do mine....

All being built from my garage. Started when I was 17. Based the look off of a drawing I made of the car. Will be running 6.0 Ls motor with a T-56. All built, fabbed, bodywork and paint done myself.
:)
Mine is being build in a friends garage....does that count?

I have been building my 66 GTO in my garage for 4yrs now. I think I am on the 10yr plan. Time is hard to come by these days. That is time at home to work on it. I'm in the sand box for a while. Can't what to get home, so I can finish widening the second wheel tub to fit 345's and the tri-4 link. Building it in my garage has been fun so far, it's good therapy.

you few last ones, we need pics!!!!
G-Body....Like i said, WOW! I love this kind of work and with time i like it more and more and try to make every sub assemblies of my builds better. I realize that as i get a little older (38) my patience is growing and the need to wow the gallery is diminishing and it really comes down to personnal realization and taste.
Doing all that work you doin takes A LOT of time, which is something i have a hard time finding with 3 young little girls and a bad back, but this is where doing it for fun comes into play, if you do it out of love and for yourself, where's the rush??? Its understandable we want them out to enjoy, but not to the detriment of the finished product huh? Looking back on the Camaro, i could have done some stuff differently and prolly better too, but its another one on the list and i have learned again and will again on the next one!
Great job, keep it up its getting there. I like the way you work with steel rod it gave me a few ideas, and i'm still shocked to learn its not chopped!!! Too cool....
On my side of things, i just need to get the exhaust installed ( i try to limit my working under the car cause of my back - i'm on my second surgery and last one is still fresh as of Feb '11) and i'm waiting on my rear shocks (will fit them with the exhaust and tailpipes on to make sure they clear one another) and after that, i have a good one;
Some of you may remember when i first started this build, i was going full bore on PT style and was one of the first to use Air ride (got criticized for it too at beginning) and 345's. I had finally decided to go back to a more traditionnally built car (big and littles big block etc) and had sold all my PT parts to a friend.... Well 5 years later, my car is done, and my friend friend has forwarded on the body and structure of his project, but still no paint and it still requires some work (69 Camaro also but his a hardtop) and life brings changes to him so that he wants out and i committed to buy his whole project and the parts i sold him 5 years ago lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:will y: :willy: :willy:
My idea is that i would like to put my C6-Z06 brake set up and 19x9 and 20x13 Forgeline (245's and 345 P-zero Assimmetrico) wheels on the car but leave all the rest aside for now (hey, after 5 years without a car, now that i have it done, you aint taking it away from me right away!!!) but i might eventually put in the 6.0L LS and T-56...thinking a turbo set up maybe. I have no plan of keeping his body tough and will flip it out with a spare (built) 454 and th400 i have layin around with either the 9 inch in it or my built 12 bolt in mine depending on buyer's taste for the shell (which is all new steel and has a tri four link in the rear and an Art M front clip (made at home to specs).
This is driving me insane, i have not picked it up yet, i still have debates about doing it....But i said yes so.... For the price, i cant pass it up, but i'm not sure how it will end up. we'll see i guess!! Thats the fun of long term projects, they take you on a tour and have a life all their own!
Ok, you all may go to the bathroom now, i'm done for the day, now to the garage....Lol!

No comparison! For 22 years I despised the TH350, now I want to drive it every day. A major limitting factor of the TH350 was cruise RPM, now 60-65 is 5th at 1900-2100 and 70-75 in 6th at 1900-2100 vs. 3000-3600 rpm.
The close ratio T56 Magnum's gear ratio are spot on for the 355 ci with 3:50-3:73 gearing. 1st gear is actually usable.
I have always felt the Camaro platform was design for a manual trans first, the auto option more for convenience.

Oh, and here is the other project i just got a few weeks ago (with my Old Pro Touring stuff (actually still bran new never ran but still been at friends house for few years now lol!!!) (Wheels, 6.0L and T56, C6 Z-06 Brake set up and a lot more misc parts) He did put a lot in it, body is almost 100% new, suspension is awesome, but i have the body for sale locally, i wanted to get my parts back to re-PT my convertible bu i dont know, i like it how it is...I'll see. This is such a nice and easy project i'm starting to like it more and more every time i go in the garage i see it finished so i don't know...I have a guy that showed serious intrerest in the 'vert so who knows. I just dont know if i'm ready to get into another build right away tough....The only motivation would be i would have a pretty good budget from the sale to fund the Hard top right away and no waiting...Could be fun.
We'll see!!!

Its built off a mix of WD and Morrison but was done at a local Nascar shop. Why sad? its still there but i'm selling the whole car, i'M just keeping my brakes, t56, 6.0L and wheel tires at this point.... If i sell the vert, i might build this one, but now i have buyers for both of them so i might change the whole thing. I have a buddy that has an ultra sano 62 Bubbletop 409 4speed that would be nice with the 3 kids or i looked at some 911, my wife likes em too. We'll see.

This is mine, took me 7 years.
I did the stripping down of the paint (and lots of bondo)and after paint the assembly of all parts. Bodywork done by 3 different "guys". Thats why it took so long.
I love the result. Still many wishes (LS1 or LS2, custom door panels, etc.)

Not a high end build by any means, but this is where I am on my 68 firebird. I didnt paint it, but have done most of everything else in my garage.

I don't get a lot of feedback though so I'm either making a lot of mistakes or my car doesn't fit with the community. Either way I love seeing the builds here and get a lot of great ideas from what others are posting.
Love this place! :D
For the most part mine is garage built, save for the paint/body and a couple other items.Next time it will be entirely garage built from ground up. It's been a learning curve over the last 8 years or so. If I could do it over again I'd do things way different but hey, you live and learn. It's not pro-touring, back when I started it I was young and wanted to go fast in a straight line. However, I do plan on driving it all the time when it is "finished."

Mine is being put together in a realllly small garage, I envy you guys with bigger garages, LOL. I do what I can in the space that I have. I haven't been able to pull it out of the garage in 6 years, but by next week I should have my brakes all buttoned up and I'll be able to pull it out of the garage to do work, rather than being crammed all up in there

My car was all home built except the paint job. I started working on the car when I was 15 and decided to do a frame-off restoration when I was 17. I had a local shop paint the car and my dad and I did absolutely everything else. It took me 7 years but finally got it done.

Don't know if it qualifies as full on pro-touring but here's mine after a little over 3 years and lots of allowance money.
I did everything in a 24X30 garage except rear end assembly and engine. When people doubt if I painted it in my garage I show them the bug buried in the clear...

I have build the 1500sqft garage even those steel frame doors. I have to honest, only engine and accessories (even air cleaner) in the Camaro and all the blower (intake manifold and intake tubes) and direct ignition systems to the Charger. Cars where pretty much done when they arrive to my garage.

Went for a Sunday Drive! well, sorta... Drove it out of the the garage under its own power for the first time in 9 years! Need to adjust the front end alignment (I guess suspension hanging on jackstand eyeball alignment isnt' that accurate) But the brakes worked! the Clutch worked! and the engine worked! Still don't have a gas pedal and linkage hooked up, so I had to move her under idle, but still better than pushing! Here's a video of it outside in the daylight!

I'm sorry I missed this thread in the past. Anyway here is my home built project. I purchased the car in 1973 and it was my daily driver until 1976 at which time I started drag racing it exclusively. I raced it for about 10 years or so but got bored with drags and the car sat in the garage for the past 25 years collecting dust. When I decided to build a PT car I litterally dusted it off to begin the project hence the name "Dust Off". The car was driven on the street in April 2012 for the first time since 1976. The car is now a full blown PT with DSE subframe, G-Link four bar rear suspension, Moser 9" floater, coil over shocks on all four courners, Corvette C6 Z06 brakes, Forgeline 18x10 275 front and 18x12 335 rear. The car is powered by the same SBC and BW T-10 that I raced with in the 70s.

I sent out the car for paint, after getting complaints from the neighbors....:faint: I did the complete tear down, and assembly rebuilt everything else and did the upholstery by myself in my garage...

I am digging it! with the turbo looking solid mounted are you going to run mid-plate or forward plate on the engine? just curious.

Ya the picture is a bit mis-leading. That was just there to hold the turbo in place while I made the merge from passenger/drivers side to the turbo. I kind of did stuff backwards as you can see the frame is powder coated and then I grinded/welded to it. I am going to build a strut to support the turbo but it will be connected to the motor so I'm still running regular motor mounts and no motor plate.
