Ok, lets kick this new section off with some pictures of the shop or garage that Trush so affectionately calls the Man Cave.

So post em up. I want to finally finish off my shop once the car is away at paint. I need ideas. :D

Here is my man cave.....after the kid goes to sleep.

32W X 56L X 14H fully insulated and plumbing has been roughed in (restroom with shower) and a wash area with a drain. There are also footings for a big two post lift. An unplanned career change has slowed my progress, and my 2 year old son has really changed my priorities, too.

I can't wait until I have the restroom finished and the two post lift installed. The man cave will be a great place to hang out!

That's a huge space and a beautiful location Don ! Very nice to have a room that big to spread out in and wrench on some cars.

Hey, I didn't see a motor in the car - but it looks like you have 3 or 4 horsepower available

This is mine. Right now it is 30' x 74'. I added on the "tall" section, at the left end, in the fall of 2005. This is mostly for storage and organization but I am using it now to install an engine in a '49 Ford pickup. The end closest to you in the photo is heated and has my machine shop inside. I got this side cleaned out and usable that winter. Although it's nothing real fancy it was a complete makeover and is a nice usable space during the winter with natural gas forced air heat.

Here is a shot of the inside after I got the lighting installed.
http://images17.fotki.com/v305/photos/9/904975/3512638/26mr06_afterlites3_jpg-vi.jpg
I bought two sets of these shelves off eBay for 72.00... Went and picked them up a couple miles from where I worked in Troy. Tons of storage that I haven't fully used yet.
http://images1.fotki.com/v317/photos/9/904975/3630427/MVC021F-vi.jpg
This is a "new" project I just picked up from a buddy after he tired of it. 1949 Ford F1 with TCI MII front and leaf rear suspensions. I have the motor and trans sitting in the chassis and will be building a trans xmbr this weekend.
http://images25.fotki.com/v897/photos/9/904975/5129175/MVC003F-vi.jpg
The truck is sitting on the storage side right now. I moved it over there to make engine access a little easier. I reinforced the roof trusses and hung my chain fall from a 4x4. Made setting the engine in place real easy...

I know you have seen my "Man Cave" before Scott. Not much has changed other that adding a couple more cabinets. Add as many lights as you can. Put some on the walls maybe up high to help with less shadows. Also my color of choice is white for the walls. Gives more light and is great for painting your favorite website logo on the wall. Would really jumps out at ya with blue on white.
Here is a site that has a million ideas. Sign up and you can surf for days. Be sure to add extra electrical and air lines if need.

Email me and I can tell ya some of my ideas that I used on my garage.

Sounds like a killer set up there! Glad to hear things are going well for you. Progress is coming along on the 55 - although at a slow pace. I started a new job and my wife and I have another baby due Aug 15. So work is slow - but is moving forward. The motor compartment fab is getting done. Firewall and inner wells are now done. Now I'm working on the core support and air intake. I'll post some pics when I have something to show.

How is work coming on your 68? Looking forwrad to seeing it done. 68's are my choice - will have another one in the works after I get the 55 done.

The work shop is 80'x100'. It was a old building in the back of a Kaiser Hospital parking lot that we got for removing it. Painted the frame and put new tin on it. The clean shop is 50'x100' with heat-ac and air filtration so everything stays dry and clean without car covers. I'm out in the country so the dirt blows a bunch. The work shop gets alot of dirt in it. Next project is to seal it up better.

When we first got married my first hotrod was a 40 Chevy coupe. I did all the work on it in a dirt driveway with a piece of cardboard for a creeper. Yes things have gotten better.

Very nice Charley. Yeah, your setup now sure beats the 'ol cardboard creeper. That is so cool that you got the building for the removal. Quite the dream car garage setup. After seeing some of your older videos without the second building or fencing put up, it looks like a great "addition". :)

Here's my "man Cave"

Please forgive the coat of white stuff on baby #2, she had to sit outside during last winter's remodeling. Under the offensive white coating is a very nice totally stock 93, in polo green.

The cave was initially an attached 25 by 55 foot "drivethrough" garage. After getting way too tired of son #1 helping himself to my tools and never putting them back, I built me a wall with a door that locks, and did a total "redo" on my side.

Only 3 car but as organized as possible. Before the next project is a new house and garage. These photos are about a year old and I have added to many new tools to the collection. I am basically down to a shop, the camaro, and storage for my bike/atv in the third car.

Yes we do lots of stereo work in wood and fiberglass as the metal just is not cost effective. A box, kick panels, trim over stereo and so on is much more cost effective from wood and fiberglass. We do very high end stereo work as well as build cars so that is why we have a wood shop.

CRCRFT78, the YSR is an 88 that was commissioned by Harley Davidson to be painted up like the VR1000 race bike and travel the circuit with it as a promotion gig. One side is painted black as you see and the other is orange. It is a total blast to ride by the way.

Here is my shop. We just moved in so it is still pretty messy. I still have to move my truck over but it is nice having room again. It is a 60x41 with a second story giving us a total of about 3500sqft of usable floor space. Also we are slowly painting our equipment so that is why some look proped up and half painted.

slck6t9,

I was bored in SF yesterday and i was checking out an auto mag and i saw a wall lift they make that you can put a bike on and it lifts the bike off the ground to create more floor space. Like a lift gate mounted on the wall. Heaven forbid i remember the name of the unit but if your in search of more room might be something to look at down the line. probably not cheap though. good luck on the cabinets! EDIT: found it! www.loft-it.com bout 2g's

Here's some more pics of "the shed".... my property sits on a corner is on an 1.25 acres -- so gave me a second driveway just to the shop... and my wife wanted to lower the view - so we hauled out 1600 cubic feet of dirt to lower the shed down below grade... that was a good decision! I had to build a base for the post that holds the "man cave" upstairs --- so couldn't just have square cut steel - out came the plasma and I did some flames! LOL -- this is what I love about having a real place to 'work'!!

Since these pictures were taken - (I have 100's - LOL) - I sold the project 36 Ford and the Project 69 Camaro... and bought a "done" 37 Ford Minotti that will get the complete re-do. I had 4 cars -- two too many to be able to WORK... spent too much time moving crap around - so now the 56 Nomad can be in the upper garage or in the trailer - and have only ONE CAR in the shed at a time..... I've also finally moved all tools and tool boxes to permanent locations - and built (in one of the pics - dark but you can see it) a huge work table.... and added some more lighting.

Funny -- I live in Seattle Washington area - and had the shed plumbed for Natual Gas.... but I also have 6" of high density insulation in the walls and roof.... sometimes now I have to open the door or roof vent (sky lights - electrically operated) because it's TOO WARM -- and I have NO HEAT... just the lights (I leave them on 24/7)....

The shop is 50x80 with 16' sidewalls. Inside to one end I framed in a 14'x16' office, a bathroom with a shower, a utility room, and the rest is a "tool room". All of this has 8' ceilings and I built a set of steps to get up to the "loft". Somewhere along the line we decided to make this look like an old gas station so we covered the wall with galvanized corrugated steel.

Looking at your plat survey and grades. You commenced this very well including the landscaped tree line on the pool side to break up the majority of building back wall. Your selection of trees will not mature to the point that it will overwhelm the pool as covering. Smart thinking on the removal of land to get project lower than grade. If you didnt spend the additional cost to do that you would have spent it on larger trees. You know as well as I how much they would be a piece.
Turned out real nice.

LOL --- Great question!!!

I have a whole "shed" (cause it ain't a shop according to my mother in law!) vacuum cleaner/air cleaner. I have a 2800 CFM Airflow Systems F90.... so think of this as 4 427's sucking thru 750 cfm Holleys at WOT...

I have it rigged up to clean the "air" and also have various inlets that I can use - to, lets say - toss inside a car (a 6" flex hose) and suck up the grinding dust... less stuff flying around is less to clean up. Mine also has a spark arrestor in it... so it can handle sparks without catching fire!

I had to switch out the motor from a 3 HP 3 phase to a 3 HP single phase. Bought this used from a local saw sharpening shop. The beauty of it is - it SUCKS - but returns the air back to the shop - it doesn't exhaust all my nice warm air outside in the winter.

Check this bad boy out!!

http://www.airflowsystems.com/products/specs/?n=f90

And you plumb it around the shop using this stuff...

My original post for this thread used the small pixs - before I knew how to post larger versions... so thought - since I was bored - I'd post up newer / better pixs of my "shed".

Well Dave -- My WIFE bought all the tools! So it pays to keep her happy...

I can positively confirm that the rule that says - "Stuff expands to fill the space allotted to it" - is totally true!!

1500 square feet seemed so "large" when the building started... now I'm hoping my neighbor wants to sell his property to I can doze his house and put a clean space over there...

I like your thinking Greg and you have a "tool time" wife killer.
Down fall on my side is the association committee dont allow out buildings on property. I have some good acreage with "jack" to use it for. Plus the wife hates seeing anything laying around or out of place.
My hobby shop/storage is 2400 sqft about 2 miles away. We have a couple of other buildings we lease to others which some have not renewed there lease to to hard times and my space is becoming more abundant but doesnt pay the bills.
Id trade in a heart beat to walk out the door in my own yd into the shop. But around here you typically dont have that in a subdivision.

If you look at the pixs I just posted in this thread - of my Shed - you'll see a "table" sitting next to the big red bead blaster. I built this table to be a 'grinding and cutting/cut off wheel' type table. I haven't finished yet - summer got in the way. Next week (now that it's typhoon season here) I'll break some sheet metal to form a 'tapered' box in the bottom portion with an outlet for attaching to the FP90 I mentioned earlier (giant sucking sound). I can roll this table around (it's very heavy! But smooth floor and good casters help) and use it as a mobile work platform. I got the grates from Boeing surplus (before they closed the store). They're drainage ditch grates built for airplanes to roll over! They're 1 foot X 3 foot X 2 1/2" using 3/8's strap - so bought three of them (3' X 3' table) for --- drum roll ---- $5 each. They're brand new and weigh 120 #'s EACH!

I'm going to build hinged 'wings' that attach to the outside sides and back of the table so that I can lift them up and form a backsplash on 3 sides or just 2 sides (forming a corner) to keep the errant 'crap' from blasting all over the shed. With huge suction in the base - I should be able to keep the mess down to a dull roar. :>)

I also built it to be a table next to the bead blaster --- so the door to it opens over the top of the table. I was going to use the separate vacuum from the bead blaster to provide suction for the table - but it's actually kind of 'weak' as it's really only a "dust" collection system - whereas the FP90 is a serious commercial vacuum and can really provide a true "down draft" table type draw.

Jim -- It's an Eye Talian job -- HYD MECH...

It's a great saw - very commercial -- not a cheapie POS...

I bought it at Trick Tools... for around a grand I think. It's been GREAT! It cuts like butter - and is big enough to do "most" of what I need done. You'll have to check out the specs to see if it will cut big enough for you. All of the bigger saws I looked at took 3 ph -- and I just don't want to be "bothered" with doing a convertor and all that... so have other saws to cut the big stuff - but they make a HUGE mess -- and this saw is clean - quiet - and so fast to use. It is liquid lubricated - but has it's own "pump" and reservoir - which I already abandoned in favor of my larger 7 gallon reservoir and electric pump... but that's a separate issue.

I have blades for SS - Mild and Aluminum.... can't cut different metals without switching blades - ask me how I know this...

I have a Grizzly store about an hour north - and like some guys have to go to Cabelas -- I have to go to Grizzly once in awhile just to see what I "need"... mostly their stuff is "chinese" junk... but if you ratchet up the line it is pretty decent stuff.

I have a vertical band saw - a Wilton piece - which is not much of a saw - but is "okay" when I need it - and I have an abrasive chop saw (dirty filthy - noisy) and a real nasty chop saw - a Morse 14" Metal cutting saw. The Morse is what I break out if I have to cut some larger 2 X 4" stuff - or some big rounds etc (like when I built the work table)... but this thing throws off the nastiest little slivers you've ever dealt with - and it throws them all over the shop! So I use it as a court of last resort. This and the abrasive chop saw take more "clean up" than they do anything else! I'm a bit "anal" about a clean workspace... so they drive me crazy.

I've seen the Femi at trade shows... it seems to be a real nice saw! If space is limited - I don't think you can beat a higher end horizontal band saw... they're "clean" - they'll mitre - and they'll cut larger stocks than a circular saw. BUT... if you want dead on accuracy you can't beat the cold cut. It makes flawless cuts. I like it best because it's available to use with the flip of a switch...

The Morse 14" -- this thing is a BEAST... powerful - fast - loud - dirty. I didn't clamp a piece well enough during a cut and that piece of metal twisted and caught and the gouge it made in my 5/8" plywood wall was scary! Had it hit me instead of flying out the back of the saw - it would have torn me in two... It shot out of there like a 50 caliber bullet! I left the gouge as a reminder... LOL
