Steve Schalk's 66
Nova |
 |
 |
My name is Steve
Schalk I live in Wilsonville which is just south of Portland, Oregon. I am
working on a 1966 Nova Chevy II which started life as a 6 cylinder Super Sport.
I hope to have the car complete sometime in the first quarter of 2009. I have
performed all most of the work on this car in my garage. I think I have touched
or modified every part on this car.
Some highlights of the car: the car sits on a one off chassis that I designed
and built using Art Morrison components. The body is one piece, top has been
chopped 1", all seams in doors, hood, trunk and body have been removed. The hood
started life as a reproduction cowl hood which I took apart and modified, I put
a Nova peak in the hood and modified the air box, cowl induction venting and
hood latch areas. The windshield wipers and cowl area metal has been replaced
with a smoothed version. The doors have shaved handles, gas filler has been
removed and the trunk panel inset area has been removed. I have replaced all the
interior sheet metal from the firewall to the truck with 14 guage steel.
The motor is an aluminum big block 572 with an induction system that I helped
design and to date is the only one in the USA. I have used the following
companies as a source for products: Morrison Motorsports of Australia - Intake
manifold, Premier Auto Upholstery - Interior, American Autowire - Wiring System
& Fuse Box, Rushforth Wheels - Wheels, Accel DFI - Engine Management System,
Stewart Warner - Gauges, Muth - Mirrors, Vintage Air - Heating, Cooling and A/C,
Fat Wallet Customs - Labor associated with the final body and paint work,
Michelin - Tires, PPG - Paint, Odyssey - Batteries, NW Regulator - Alternator
and Charging System, Flaming River - Steering Wheel, Column and Components,
Ricks Hot Rod Shop - Gas Tank.
Many thanks are in order for Jason Rushforth for providing the Designs and
Rendering work which recently forced me to become more focused on seeing the
light at the end of the tunnel.
