Nut & Bolt Inventory/Storage ideas
 

Hey fellas

I'm starting to build a new workshop at home as I've well and truly outgrown our 2 car garage and my old man wouldn't mind me moving my projects out of his shop so he can get on with work (which sucks because he's got some good gear being in aviation!!!).

I've been flicking through the forum here grabbing some of the good ideas to use while planning. I'd love to see how other people organize their nut and bolt inventory?

I've looked at the parts bin and rack setups which are good but find the open bins always end up with rubbish like dust, grinding/sanding dust, dead bugs etc in them. Looking for something more enclosed but something that can deal with a large inventory: metric, unc, unf, grades, materials, lengths etc.
The enclosed drawer system (similar to the link below) is probably the direction I'll head but just want to see what others do.

It's awesome ..but im stuck on the price

This may sound stupid but why not install the gladiator style bins/rack system inside of a cabinet?

I personally have mine out in the open on a wall and they get dust etc but it doesn't bother me. But the cabinet idea would be cheaper and less of an eye sore then the ones you listed in my opinion. Get a used cabinet,Paint it if needed,install bins/racks and your done.

Yeah I agreed 100% they are ridiculously expensive for what they are. Just throwing that up as an example and to find alternatives. (If it helps slow your heart beat any that's Aussie dollars not US. Might be cheaper over there I dunno.)

I had thought of putting the parts bins it in a cabinet and that idea is on the cards too. If I were to leave them outside a cabinet I would just fold a simple hinged/lift up shroud to cover a row of bins.

But yeah keen to see what other good ideas are around as well.

I just have some of that stamped steel which screws to the wall and those multi-color square plastic bins hook into it ...if you follow my poor ass description lol

Thanks for the link. They have some good gear, I see the cabinets they've fitted out with the parts bins which look good! will have a bit more of a browse through their site.

Yep I'm picking up what your putting down, nothing wrong with that description :lol: . I was just looking for a way to keep some of the dirt, dust and corruption out of them which as mentioned above can achieve easily enough by putting the racking in a cabinet.
