Hello from Germany
 

Hi all!
Im a new member from germany. Im working with cars for a long time. Started with hotrodding Opels with 16 years. After some years in a shop for Harleys i started working cars again. I do some restoration projects together with a buddy for customers.
After looking for a car for me, i stumbled over a 71 Nova.
First car i restored was a 71 too, so i purchased the Nova. I wanted a low and fast one. After lurking around in the net only two forums had what im looking for to get some fun and, of course, help when needed.... I decided to go with the one which talks more my kind of speech. You all know which is the other one, i think.... :unibrow:

are you german national reason why I ask is how is, how is the american muscle car market out there as far as popularity and availability, because being in germany I assume there may be more following for the classic benz, porsche, vw etc...

We have a growing market for almost every classic american car here. The main problem with classic cars is originality. You know, we pay tax per cu.in. here. The more You have under the hood, the more You pay. That becomes more worse if You dont get into the the newest emission laws.
If You have an original car over 30 years old You can get it registered as historic vehicle and pay only little taxes.
All modifications must be the same which could be done at least 25 years ago. So no chance for LS motors, fancy aluminum rims and so on...
We have also a lot of newer model pick ups here due to the possibility to register them as truck which pay lower taxes as well.
There is a market for classic german, british, italian....we love cars the same as You guys over there! But i, personally, dont like many of them. Especially classic german car owners. They dont like anything but their cars, dont like modifications, dont like anybody... I expect that You have this kind of people in the states also...

Welcome from another Chevy guy Stateside. You've allright in my book, my son and I are building a pro-touring Camaro, he drives a 87 Blazer with a 350, and after the Camaro Project we will turn our attention to a 1965 Volvo P1800, which I'm sure the Volvo purists will just loose their minds when we pull out the 1.8 liter 4 cylinder and drop in an American V8, with tubs for wide low prifile tires on billet rims, lowered 2 iniches all around, and a sound only a V8 would ever make (and no back seat any more).

There are more than a few of those type of car people you describe around here, who only want to see an original, pure vehicle, as would have been seen coming from the factory. They go car shows called a Concours d' Elegance, beautifully restored pieces of automotive history, many worth more money than I'll make in 10 years, some more than I'll make in a liftime, but they don't DRIVE them!!! What good is a car that doesn't go anywhere, except inside a closed trailer!!! I'm sure the people who designed these cars back in the day would shake their heads in disgust, realizing these classics almost never see the road the way thew were designed.

I don't have that problem. I go to the big Hot Rod Shows, (Good Guys) and belong to a Camaro Club (Camaro's Limited) and hit the local shows that occur on a periodic basis here in the area, especially in the late spring, througout the summer and into the fall. We love swapping whatever go fast parts work for the driver of the car. Hope you have a variety of car shows to go to out there.

I enjoy driving what I work on, making it the way I want it and driving it HARD. And living in the hills in California, I drive the cars I build, and make them more than they were when they came from the factory.

I love living in Northern California, the variety of wine is incredible. But I'll take a cold Bock to a bottle of wine any day of the week. You got me beet there!!!

Car tax rules are almost same in here (Finland), we pay by CO2 from '96 up.

We have alot of half ton and full ton trucks too:)

We have a lot shows during summer here. Some are better than others... Nothing to compare with Your shows, but i like them much. We have a cruise in every thursday just across the border in the netherlands, take a look of the cars You can see in europe if You like:

I know what You say...making cars fast, corner better and having fun with them on windy roads is the way to go! A sunny day, smoking some jap bikes with the Harley or having fun with the wannabees in their fast and furious plastic cars friday nights....we have to work hard for our beer! :D

We have this co2 BS too. But its only for new cars. If they were registered in the states before its ok.
You talked about the trucks...here is my daily. I stay with the black grey paint scheme.... :lol:
