69 GTO Restore: Purest or Pro Touring?
 

I am thinking of restoring my 69 GTO Hardtop. I am struggling with sticking to a more purest approach or going towards a Pro Touring approach. The end result is to sell the car and move up a class. I have been doing alot of reading and I find that were a nice restore back to original is ok, unless you have a Judge or Convertible you probably won't see more than 30K. However, I have seen some very nice Pro Touring cars go for alot more that were just standard hardtops. I would like to maximize my build with minimal expenses. I was turned onto this site by a friend and from what I have seen there are alot of great cars and guys that really know their stuff. I see why he like it so much. I would appreciate any advice. Hey Hammer - restore or PT, do it for the love not the investment 'cause more often than not there's no upside in it. I'm not saying some guys don't do well, but it's a tough market out there unless you have something rare and in demand. Just my .02...

Thanks Ron! I am working on some pics. Everything is in storage right now so I can't get any good shots but I will post when I get it out. I was leaning towards the PT myself only because there seems to be more of a demand for those types of cars. I really was inspired by this build.

If you're just building it to sell it I'd say sell it now and buy what ever it is you really want. Whether restored or modified you'll lose money on it when you sell it.

IMHO, in order to get more money in a sale from a pt build, you'll have to spend more money as well. I'd recommend just getting the car "nice" but not concourse and sell it. Go ahead and get phs documentation to help sell it.

Thanks for the posts guys. I read the mac daddy post and it was an awesome story. The car came out great and is a real head turner. I agree it is tough to make any money when building a car which is why I am weighing heavy on this one. I was thinking I would like to build a 60 Corvette. I was hoping to get some money from the 69 to help with the cost to restore the 60. Since I already have many of the parts to put the 69 back together I thought I might try getting my feet wet before really jumping in on something like a vette. I like the idea of getting it back together and not going to crazy with it. Once again thank you for your input. I have alot of respect for the members on this sight you guys are great! Keep up the great projects they're very inspiring. :thumbsup:
