Where to find a 9 inch differential
I am looking to upgrade my 10 bolt in my 69 camaro as I just put in a 6 speed and I don't think the 10 bolt will live much longer and I am not a big fan of the current 3.42 ratio because I can hardly use the 6th gear. I like the 9in because of easier gear changes with the removable center section. What cars should I look for at the junk yard that have a good 9in differential in them. Also will I really be saving much money finding a junk yard axle and building I up or just ordering a mail order axle built with what I want.

Depending on what you are looking for it may be cheaper to just buy one. I got one from moser and am extremely happy with it. I found one in a junk yard but by the time I had a couple things done to it the moser was stronger and only a few dollars more.

I've had great luck with these guys.

how hard is it to find a decent 12 bolt rear?
|
It's usually more money all the hardcore resto guys spend big money for them, I have one but I think I could get 1800-2000k for it. Your better off buying new!!!

what is the cost comparison of a 12 bolt to a 9in. What is the weight of the rear ends.

You gotta remember a 9 inch is used by a lot of people drag racers off road types. If you find one its probably wore out and not the gear you like. They came factory 28 and 31 spline and 3 different end bearing styles. Its better to buy a housing and axles to fit your car. Then have a center built to your specs get everything you want and don't have to do anything but put it in.I did see one the other day on a site i can't remember the name of but they had a 9 inch and what looked like a diff cover on it.That would throw people off or get a dana 60 for it.
