GM 10 bolt EATON or AUBURN posi unit??
 
Building a 8.5 10 bolt rear for my 67 camaro. And was wondering what posi unit is stronger or better, the Eaton or Auburn. Going with 3.73 for gears. Any help would be great. Would love to have a 12 bolt but can't find the cash for that..

Uhmmmm.... an Eaton.

Auburns are 'throw away' units. However, with their "D-Rex" exchange program it make replacement eaiser to swallow when a unit does fail... all for about $100, not including time, other parts and labor.

Not to forget to mention that the Eaton is tunable... and rebuildable, no less.

May I suggest a Richmond Powertrax posi unit. That's what I run in my 8.5" in my Camaro. It's bullet-proof. It's made of something called zitanium, which they say is 67% stronger than titanium. I'm very happy with it. It's like a spool when you're going straight and seamlessly unlocks on the turns. It's very smooth on the street, and it was pretty easy to install, too. Only thing is that you need an open carrier to install it into, but open carriers are a dime a dozen. Plus, it's only around $450 through Summit or Jeg's.

Having had both, I can highly recommend the Eaton. Threw piles of nitrous at it with an old richmond 6 speed.

I found something else caled DETROIT TRUETRAC posi, uses all gears and no clutches and is a limited slip unit. Anyone heard or used this one?

Sure... just dont use it for drag racing... as impact loading will destroy it in no time at all.

I have setup a lot of Auburn and Eaton units in my shop. I have not had any problem with anyone coming back and complaining of problem with either one. I personal run Eaton in all of my cars I build. I do like with Eaton’s you can rebuild them and change the spring rate for the side gears from a 400lbs to 800lbs spring. :lateral:

Where can one get rebuild parts for an Eaton?
 
I've got an Eaton posi in the 8.5" 10 bolt I'm building for my S10 and I'd like to rebuild it before I put it into the truck. Does anyone offer side gears to allow bigger axles, too? 10 bolts seem to be forgotten on most vendors websites.

You must have had better luck than me! Seamless is not the term I would use, that sucker clacks and clanks like crazy!
